I’m confused, how can 2 men have a child?

    • necronomikron says:

I was wondering why Rush would go against his anti-gay stance, myself.

Ha. What sucks is that on my computer Google Ads picked up Coulter’s name and put a huge banner ad over there——–>
for her column. Ugh. Make it go away….refresh, refresh, refresh…

My question is – who likes Ann Coulter? If liberals hate her and most conservatives think she’s a b!tch, who is keeping her in the spotlight?

So is the child going to be fat or anorexic? Only time will tell!

Now that I think about it, this does kind of look like one of those before and after P90X pics.

No it’s before Oxycotton, and after Oxycotton!!!!

This would have been funnier if the person had just stopped at we’ve decided to have a baby….

Why you may ask VNV, b/c we all know Obama is the antichrist!!! ;-)

          • mothergoose says:

The New Oxy-diet brought to you by our good friends at Pfizer Pharmaceuticals… ;-)

If you still believe in that sort of thing. ;)

I’m pretty sure Obama’s not actually the antichrist. My money’s on Oprah.

My vote goes to one of these guys.

              • I Like Peanut Butter says:

There you go VNV. “Damn the big corporations.” However without big corporations there wouldn’t be that many jobs, and their taxes. If you drove Walmart out, where would we get “People of Walmart.com”?

                • VictoryNotVengeance says:

Shopping in stores owned by individuals? Keeping money in the community? Not ordering everything from China?

And you are telling me that its not a bit odd that the same people sit on all those different boards? So like 200 people control every major corporation in America? That doesn’t seem monopolistic and a bit unsafe to you?

                  • I Like Peanut Butter says:

Nope it doesn’t. Now here’s a question for you:
I’m assuming (bad thing I know) that you are for increasing the minimum wage. So if you want us to pay people more, which will cost companies more and cut into their profit (which is used to grow), therefore they need to outsource to China in order to keep the price of the product down so that people who are making minimum wage can afford it. Perhaps we let the companies garner what they want to pay employees, get out of their pockets with “legislation” and unions, and see how quickly the outsourcing stops.

                    • VictoryNotVengeance says:

No. I am not for increasing minimum wage. The companies will just inflate prices accordingly. That doesn’t work.

I also think some companies have grown enough, and their constant grab for more “growth” is a problem.

I think we should pass laws that make any company importing goods onto our soil have to follow the same labor laws we do no matter where they produce, including minimum wage. That ought to encourage them to keep making stuff here, which will increase employment, the people’s ability to spend, and further fuel the economy.

                      • I Like Peanut Butter says:

Big Government = BAD!!!! We need less laws regualting business. That’s how you bring business back. What’s next? We force businesses to “buy” American? Why do you think it’s so expensive to live in England or Japan? They do the same thing. Tax imports, levy laws on imports, etc…. Sorry I don’t want to pay twice what I’m paying for things now.

                        • VictoryNotVengeance says:

Well I think that’s were we definitely differ. I think in no way should those in power get more power. We won’t have to force business to buy American if things are being made here. But now that we know where each other stands, I think it’s best to end here, because now it will be just a circular debate.

                        • I Like Peanut Butter says:

But I be’s right anf you be wrong!!! Debates must end with a Victor (I prefer Victoria, but hey who cares) ;-)

                        • VictoryNotVengeance says:

Well since I have Victory in my name. I chose me. Game. Set. Match.

                        • I Like Peanut Butter says:

Ok if you want Victor he’s all yours. Be careful though he bites!!! (I’ll take Victoria Beckham that is.. ;-) )

OOOH looks like the judge called that last shot out, looks like we’re deuce again!!!

                        • MRob says:

Actually the main reason so much stuff is expensive in the UK is cos we just get screwed. Apple a little while ago were ordered by the EU to bring the price of tracks bought on iPlayer in the UK into line with the rest of the EU. This is for downloading music, for no apparent reason other than they thought we would pay, they decided to arbitrarily charge us more. Yeah, we just get screwed (apart from on fuel and booze, where the government screws us instead, but hey nice to have some variety eh…)

                        • Rokiri says:

I like peanut butter and VNV: I would like to thank you for having an intelligent debate, giving opinions without filth and pathetic name calling (IE: fascist, terrorist, teabagger, nazi, racist, Etc.) and even if you will never agree, generally letting the other person have there own opinion and not trying to silence anyone. It’s a breath of fresh air on the internet.

                        • I Like Peanut Butter says:

Rokri: We’ve had our “fights”, got past it, no we’ll only agree about 25% of the time. But we also like to show that occasionally a conservative and liberal can argue. Even if he is a looney tune!!! (I’m leaning towards Daffy Duck) Me… I’m Taz.

                      • GetMeOttaTexas says:

OMG – you would reduce the standard of living for workers in 28 of the 30 OECD countries by making them follow AMERICAN labour law for goods they export to the US? Well, it would certainly stop those countries bothering with selling to AND buying from the US…

                        • VictoryNotVengeance says:

If they have better labor laws then our own, then they would maintain them. Ours would be the minimum. The reason I say that is so our corporations cannot go enslave, pollute, and destroy in the name of making them a buck, and saving us a buck. That will inevitably come back to bite us all in the a$$.

                        • charro says:

It is pretty disgusting the way workers in (some) countries get treated for (some) of the goods that we import.

Sure, yay, it’s cheaper.. But what’s the human cost? Is my stereo really better because it cost less but was made by someone in a sweat shop that makes $0.30/an hour (I made that up but you get the idea).

I think outsourcing and importing has helped ruin our economy. It took away our jobs, it took away our pride and it just made the rich richer and the middle class poorer.

What kind of country will we be when there’s only the super rich and the dirt poor? Bring the jobs back here. Stop giving tax breaks to people for outsourcing. Penalise them instead, I say.

                        • VictoryNotVengeance says:

                          Well said charro.

                      • GetMeOttaTexas says:

Since the US doesn’t have a unified labour code that applies nationwide, it’s a moot point anyway…

                        • VictoryNotVengeance says:

Well then I guess there is our first step then isn’t it? Point unmooted.

                        • GetMeOttaTexas says:

It’ll never happen. American workers were divided and conquered years ago with the Taft-Hartley Act and neither party wants to dismantle that nasty little bit of legislation in the face of corporate lobbying and cries of “socialism” from the reds-under-beds brigade…

                        • VictoryNotVengeance says:

“It’ll never happen” is not what made America once great. And it certainly didn’t get us to the moon. And who cares who labels what socialism? Its obvious by now that that term has been bastardized to basically mean nothing and anything. Might as well not even use it.

                        • sorry to point this out but: You didn’t go to the moon!

                      • Care Troll says:

Did I just read that right?

“I think we should pass laws that make any company importing goods onto our soil have to follow the same labor laws we do no matter where they produce, including minimum wage.”

are you saying the U.S. Government should enforce it’s will on other countries?

                        • No I guess, he meant to make sure that you’d only let companies import goods whose countries share similar labour laws than yours.

                        • Care Troll says:

                          Ok that’s more acceptable.

                        • froofrou: Now 5 times more accurate! says:

When other countries depend on outsourcing goods to the US for their livelihood, then it’s basically the same thing as imposing our will on their country. Try to follow the bouncing ball, Hackney.

                        • VictoryNotVengeance says:

Well we do so much enforcing our will on other countries anyway, I really didn’t think they would notice.

And the hope would be that those countries could still produce, but sell to their own people. The obvious end goal would be that everyone’s labor worldwide is worth the same, and that way we all have all the products at similar prices. And we all have access. Plenty of employment, plenty of products, plenty of money circulating.

                        • Bouncing ball? Where? Where? *Throbbing*

                        • PortlandMark says:

Of course we tell other countries how to behave. We’re doing it already, always have, always will. There are only two questions: Do we do it using military, diplomatic, or economic means, and: Do we do it in a way that increases the power of the masses, or do we do it in a way that increases the power of the elite few born into positions of power and wealth?

                        • VictoryNotVengeance says:

WTG PortlandMark! You hit the nail on the head!

                        • Care Troll says:

oh come on. You’re actually talking about world domination here. You want to put the entire world under one rule. VNV you’ve gone from nut to bond level villain. Also we don’t enforce our will on other counties otherwise we’d be attempting to convert china to capitalism and having the health care system in canada switch over to U.S. insurance companies. We try to help countries that are not as well off as we are. I will admit this is misguided and wrong sometimes. but we do not try to convert them to our way of life. I mean have you seen the army corp of engineers build a church in Iraq?

                        • No, they only build mcdonald’s fastfood drive-thrus in Iraq!

                        • PortlandMark says:

“we’d be attempting to convert china to capitalism”

                          Did it already.

It is a basic tenet of the American Government that the USA represents the best the human race has to offer.

Okay, all you Europeans can stop laughing now.

Nevertheless, the US government operates under the principle that it is their duty to export American values to the rest of the world. Unfortunately, those values seem to change every few years, depending on the party in the White House. Like it or not, this is the world we live in. Personally, I like it, at least when it is *my* party in the WH; and when we use diplomatic and economic means to reach that goal!

Did anyone else notice how Care troll took “Everyone’s labor being the same” and turned it into “World Domination”?
I would have to say that’s more Bond Villian-esque than anything that VNV suggested.

                        • VictoryNotVengeance says:

Its ok Maxwell. I get that a lot. Just keep an eye out. You will find out I have more plans in the works than Dr. Doom depending on who reads what I write. Really, I just want the whole world to be safe, healthy, intelligent, and happy.

                      • GetMeOttaTexas says:

I suppose there could be some reciprocity – US goods exported to countries with environmental, social and workers rights legislation would require the exporting US company to apply those same standards and rights in their US facilities..fair is fair…

i heard about that interview on the radio this morning… the one good thing i can say about it is that at least oprah didn’t tyra banks it.

“ok, so your face is really ugly and people are mean to you about it, so i’m going to dress up like that so i can see what it feels like and then pretend that i know what you’re really going through so when i basically mock you through the whole interview i can say that i’ve been there and know what it’s like”

oprah’s an opportunistic whore… but no one made chimp lady (i can’t remember her name) sit down with her and talk. she could have stayed in her 24/7 security guarded room until she was ready.

                  • I Like Peanut Butter says:

You know there was a $50K bounty to whomever got the first shot of her face. How can someone live like that. I think she was going on Oprah whom’s supposidly a compassionate person hoping to stop the madness. I don’t fault her one bit, it took courage to do what she did, however she didn’t need Oprah being an asshat.

                    • shortright the ivanist who thinks clothes are overrated says:

only 50k? i’m sure the price for a first picture was higher than that…

and you say how can someone live like that… she’s not really LIVING. she’s on a secluded floor of the cleveland clinic with a guard 24/7. she doesn’t go to appointments, they come to her. when she decides to leave her room to walk the halls they close all the doors to the other rooms on the hall and she wears a hat and veil. i had a friend who was the nurse of the woman who had the face transplant at CCF last year. he said that her room (on like the 10th floor) had blackout curtains on it because people were in the hotels across the street trying to get photos in the window. it’s not a life. and unfortunately, she’ll never have a “life” again. she’ll (charla, not face transplant) most likely need 24/7 care until the day she dies.

oprah’s better than most, but she sure wasn’t that sympathetic… you could practically see her counting the dollars in ad revenue while she wiped the tears off charla’s face.

You people who spend all day on here should try it some time.

PS: the Apocalypse started Jan. 20, 2009

How’s that hope and change working out…oh that’s right, it’s working just fine for people who don’t.

    • VictoryNotVengeance says:

I don’t see how him getting paid 33 million means that people are listening to him are working. In fact, most of the people I know that listen to his show are retired. I am not even sure that means -he- is working. Just means he is getting way over paid. And I am also not certain how you can post here and tell people not to be here?

      • Rush L. says:

        Wow clueless much?

He gets paid by ADVERTISERS you moron, people don’t spend $33 million to advertise to people (like you) with no money. The people who pay him CHOOSE to. People who are retired ALREADY spent their life working since the welfare state didn’t start till long after they had to go to work and the kind of people who listen to Rush built this country and don’t like sitting on their lazy ass waiting for the government to support them.

Football players make tons of money, are they “over paid” by the “morons” who watch it?

I gave up counting how many THOUSANDS of posts on here are from you but ever heard the phrase “get a life”?

        • VictoryNotVengeance says:

I know how he gets paid. There have been types of “welfare” since long before any of our grandparents were born.

Yes, football players are -way- overpaid. They are playing a child’s game and making millions while DOT workers are in the sun all day and getting paid peanuts.

I have a life. That’s why I only post from 8-5, while I am waiting for work to do. My job is pretty much “hurry up and wait”.

          • Rush L. says:

They are paid what the people who own the teams CHOOSE to pay them, nobody from the government is making them. I believe the people getting paid “peanuts” also CHOOSE to work there.

In 2008, the average wage for 1.9 million federal civilian workers was $79,197, which compared to an average $50,028 for the nation’s 108 million private sector workers. Why don’t you whine about that?

If only 108 million people work, that means 200 million + plus DON’T.

            • VictoryNotVengeance says:

You would think they choose to work there. But the fact is that in many places in the country, the jobs are all but gone. DOT is actually one of the higher paying jobs for blue collar workers.

Its our fault we let all the jobs get outsourced. Now we have to live with our mistake.

              • I Like Peanut Butter says:

VNV: Circle, circular, round shape…. It’s the Government and Union’s fault jobs got outsourced, please don’t lump me in with that “our”. Thank you. Round and round we go..

                • VictoryNotVengeance says:

Its the corporations that outsourced. Not the government. It was their option. And consider yourself lumped.

                  • I Like Peanut Butter says:

No it was the government leaving the companies no choice but to outsource or raise prices. Raising prices yields less sales, or the “EVIL companies raise prices just to make a profit, now poor minimum wage Tommy can’t afford the TV.” It’s a no win with you guys.

                    • VictoryNotVengeance says:

It gave them a choice. Lower the expected profit to provide a good quality of live for your employees or leave. They chose leave. And it’s easy to blame them for it. The problem with these companies is that their sole purpose is to generate as much profit as that can. The cut corners on safety, pay, benefits, and quality. And then, once they start making that profit, the feel the must -always- increase it. Or then they start hurting people to get more. The problem is the focus of the corporation. The main goal should be to maximize profit, but to maximize the benefit to the community that they bring.

                      • I Like Peanut Butter says:

No the purpose of a business is to generate income. That’s the bottom line. Can’t fault them for it, if it’s within the guidlines of the law. However if we keep adjusting laws to mandate “morals” of a comapny then how are we any different than those making mandates to control our “morals”?

If the company doesn’t make a profit then there is no overhead for R&D, which in turn creates jobs and allows the company to compete and continue to grow creating more jobs. There are many companies now dropping health benefits b/c they figure within a year the government will be picking up the tab, and they can save money. So instead of making companies have better helath benefits as incentives, the Government has done the exact opposite with it’s growth.

Outsourcing is a good thing. All the USA has to do is make stuff or provide services that no other country can do better or more efficiantly. Then everybody wins. • Try Again says:

The corporations outsource because of unions and TAXES.
It may come as a surprise that US companies pay the highest taxes in the world. Yes, you read that right. American businesses, large and small and across all industries pay from 35% to 41.6% of their income in combined state and federal taxes. The 41.6% maximum rate is scheduled to rise to 46.2% in 2010 when President Obama’s promised tax increases are implemented. Compare that to socialist France where companies pay only 34.4% in taxes, to China where the rate is 25%, or Russia which levies a mere 24%. Corporations in Ireland, Europe’s fastest growing economy for the
last 18 years, pay just 12.5% in taxes.

Translation, almost HALF of the cost of everything you buy is taxes, when you buy gas it’s more than half so don’t whine about outsourcing and then say how wonderful the welfare state is.

Why? It’s complete bulldust, not least because corporations pay tax on their profits, not their turnover.

So if a gallon of gas costs $2 at the pump, and $1-90 to extract and refine, that means that maybe 4c of the pump price is tax.

Actually, it’s the fault of people who don’t understand the concept of false economy and refuse to pay more than $6 for a pair of pajamas or $20 for a pair of shoes, thereby having to have those things made by people who make .10 an hour. If people bought fewer things but of higher quality, manufacturing could have stayed where it was.

Twenty dollars for shoes..where???? Last pair of boots I looks at in Norstoms where $495.00 ON SALE!! And do not get me started on DSW, $20.00 might buy you a pair of nice tights. And still this stuff is made overseas. So I don’t think your argument holds. Anything that could potentially hurt the profits of the extremely wealthy will be painted as evil. They control all the media and the government. We now have only limited options.

                      • I Like Peanut Butter says:

Actually anything that limits companies should be painted as “EBIL”!!! Anything that limits pretty much anything (within bliblical standards of course.. ;-) ) Seriously though, why is “Big Business” seen as so evil? I don’t understand. I worked for a small company and got laid off when times were tough (under Clinton), yet when I worked for a fortune 500 company and times got tough (under Bush) they found me another job within the company. We have limited options b/c many companies don’t want to deal with the tax codes of America. Especially since Dems have been in power. Insurance companies are ebil, big car companies are ebil, power companies are ebil, so let’s TAX them more. That won’t send jobs elsewhere or drive companies out of business now will it.

And to Sara, you need to shop elsewhere woman. At least go to Nordstrom Rack where there is some semblance of a deal.

                        • Maxwell Supreme Socialist Presidictator of PK says:

It’s very simple ILPB, Big Business is evil because it provides less and less while making more and more. They take advantage of anyone, any way they can and they spit in the face of people looking to make a decent living.
And the one thing that everyone here knows, that you have NO defense against, and have made NO attempt to refute is that The businesses has a choice between A) Taking a cut in their overabundant profits to make and provide quality care/wages/quality of life or B) Ship their work elsewhere, driving jobs and money out of the domestic economy, and depriving the government of taxes needed in order to keep this huge nation we live in, running.
The shareholders and folks who run big businesses don’t give one flying f*ck about you, why do you care so much for their happiness?

                    • *snerk* If you’re paying $495 for a pair of boots, you are soooooo getting fleeced. Biotech jobs are great, but they all require a college degree, unlike the skilled labor of shoe construction.
So aside from medicines, we don’t have the option to ‘buy American’ any more.

                        • You are 100% right, shortright. One of the managers at my store used to be a buyer for Nordstrom’s. He said one thing they never had to do was haggle over price. Why? Because Nordstrom’s didn’t give a shit how much they paid for the merchandise because they made NO attempt at keeping prices down. Why? Because people who shop at Nordstrom’s WANT to spend more. The more money they waste there on overpriced merchandise, the classier or more prestigious they feel. So yeah, you’re dead on. You’ll never find a DEAL at Nordstrom’s.

we’re a country of approximately 350M people. about a third are children. so that takes the work force to 250M. about a third are elderly, disabled, prison, etc… so that’s now only 150M… and if 108M are working, then that seems like we’re not doing all that bad if only 42M aren’t working. when you factor in the 10.2% unemployment rate… we’re right back up at damn near 150M. so, rush, once again i’m going to request that you shut up and fvck off.

I believe the point he is trying to make, and you wish wasn’t a true fact is, as long as their is a market for the “talents” of an individual, they will get paid for such “talent”, whether it’s too much or not. It’s called Capitalism, which you hate. I understand you’re point about the construction worker (not DoT, they work in comfy offices with lots of coffee), and the janitor, and the people at the “bottom” of the pyramid get paid crap for what seems like working harder. This is a poor example. All trained artists I know, regardless of their field, can draw correctly. They all say it’s just practice. You *can* learn to draw a cow that looks like a cow.

Making a Picasso-like cow that people will pay the big $ for, that’s another story. But the mechanics, not much different than learning to disassemble (and reassemble!) a carburetor. Okay, dating myself again.

And what happened to you wanting peace between the usual squabblers? Now you’re contributing!

                  • Justacarolinian says:

Not everyone can learn to disassemble/assemble, as you put it. I will be returning to work in a transmission shop in a few days, and know for a fact that everyone can’t repeat monkey on a typewriter movements and rebuild transmissions. Most mechanics from other fields treat a transmission man like he is the big dog in the pack.
It takes an effort of knowledge of principles, learned dexterity in handling many of the parts, and a dedication of constant training.
Even carb rebuilders (who are rare these days) have to have a wide variety of skills to correctly rebuild and set up the different types of carbs.
If it were as simple as practice, we would all study to be brain surgeons.

                    • Well, the University of Joe says I’m now a qualified brain surgeon, and it only cost me $49.95!! Line forms to the left please..

So i guess it just depends on where you go for the definition then doesn’t it? Or even… symantics? Thanks for proving my point.

                        • Justacarolinian says:

Not symantics. There is a distinct difference. As Froo said, one is taught, one you are born with.
A perfect example, GWB. He was taught, but lacked talent. All the college education in the world wouldn’t make a difference.

                        • VictoryNotVengeance says:

I know you want to be right sooo bad, but clearly we have two different apparently legitimate sources and they don’t even agree. So you are going to have to settle for both of us having an opinion. And just leave it at that.

                        • VNV, it’s hurting my linguistically uptight little heart:

                          Semantics: the study of meanings
Symantec: the corporation that develops/distributes Norton Anti-Virus.

Well… I guess Diss gets to be right. :-P

                        • Justacarolinian says:

Actually, you are dancing around the issue. You know you are wrong, and have already started the insults.
One of us used a website that purposefully compares similar words, one of us used a website that gives the actual meanings.
One of us is trying to twist things to his opinion, one of us is using factual information.

Justa wins on this one, VNV. Sorry. A thesaurus does not give a definition, and a synonym isn’t the same thing as a definition. It’s just a similar use for a different word that might or might not mean the same thing as the original word. In this case, talent and skill are not interchangeable.

                        • VictoryNotVengeance says:

froo… It doesn’t matter. And the thesaurus is the one that gave me the definition. So it wasn’t just a synonym, it was the definition it gave. So both of you are wasting time barking up a tree with nothing in the branches. Just leave it be.

                        • Justacarolinian says:

Let me interpret that for you. He’s full of turkey stuffing, got caught, and needs a save face way to dodge.
He went to tomatoes.com and found out that tomatoes are the best there is. All the time knowing if would support his theory, and that there was a better way to get the information.
I am really beginning to wonder if he was part of the GWB intelligence team that cherry picked things for ole GW.

                        • froofrou: Now 5 times more accurate! says:

In this case, VNV, it DOES matter. Words are important, and the use of words is just as important, especially when you’re trying to be specific about what you’re trying to portray. You can teach me to draw a decent cow picture, but it’ll never be art. It’ll never be worth anything, because although you have taught me the SKILL of drawing, I lack the TALENT to turn it into anything worthwhile.

I can teach you to spell correctly, but I can’t teach you how to put those words that you have spelled correctly into an award-winning novel without you having the talent to do so.

Practice cultivates skill. Birth creates talent. There is a difference, and it’s an important one. Since I can’t change your already made up mind (you have a talent for being hard-headed when you think you’re right), I’ll leave it at that.

                        • VictoryNotVengeance says:

Go to thesaurus.com and look up the work skill for yourself a$$hole. Or do you only go look for something to copy and paste when you think it will tip the scale in your direction? Why do you always have to hound me and bitch for minor nitpicky nothings that clearly can be interchanged? Jesus you are a douche.

Diss, I noticed that too, but HAD to play along. It adds to the effect.

                        • VictoryNotVengeance says:

You guys debate it between yourselves. And I hope you give each other a good circle jerk for double teaming me when clearly the word was defined for me as well. Just cause you can’t let it go, go ahead and pretend you are right. Now go harass someone else.

                        • Justacarolinian says:

I guess you couldn’t type dictionary. Thesaurus was so much easier to spell.
One is made for comparison of similar words, to make them sound alike. One is made to define each word, no matter what the situation is.

At least I know the difference between minority and majority.

Actually, I’m the one who knows the difference. You were the one playing both sides of that argument, in support of your Utopia. Or as it was referred to, back pedaling.

                      • Justacarolinian says:

Yep. I have been taught to read sheet music and tableture for Banjos, but can’t play of any decent quality. Of all the delicate and/or strong things I do with my hands and fingers, picking a Banjo is one I can’t do. And oddly, I can pick decently, which is what holds most people back. I can’t fret well. I can’t get the right sound quality if I try to do it fast enough to play.
One of the things I get cheesed at Limbaugh about. “Talent on loan from GOOOODDDDDDD.”
If the only talent a man has is picking his nose, it’s still on loan from God.

                        • froofrou: Now 5 times more accurate! says:

About what Limbaugh says about talent…….he has frequently explained himself in the past that all of his talent is on loan from God ;-) Just goes to show that if you don’t listen, you don’t know :-)

I’m not sure those are the exact words I would use, but that is exactly the concept I was pointing out: You *can* learn to do a lot of things; doesn’t mean you’ll be good at them.

                        Geez.

                        • Justacarolinian says:

I just hope you aren’t putting yourself into that “us” category.

                        • Justacarolinian says:

Oh, in layman’s terms, doing it well versus just doing the minimum IS the difference between the talented and untalented.
To use your earlier example, rebuilding a 1 or 2 barrel Carter Carb from the 60’s or early 70’s is not that hard. Like drawing a stick figure. Now, a Rochester 4 barrel Quadrajet with a mixture control solenoid is about the Michaelangelo equivalent.

                        • Justacarolinian says:

Hmmm, I do recall someone whining about how wrong it was to jump in other’s conversations. But, we all know he has a double standard.

                        • VictoryNotVengeance says:

I like how its a double standard when I do it, and standard precedure when you do it.

I didn’t declare it an evil thing to do. YOU did. Once again, speaking out of both sides of your mouth.

                        • VictoryNotVengeance says:

And while we are at it, I would like to point out that the thread you are speaking in right now it part of my “talent” thread. So.. I suppose there was no double standard afterall. So take that… out of both sides of my mouth at the same time. Nub.

                        • Justacarolinian says:

You were in the above thread, yes. You were not in the conversation with mabsba and myself. Not that I mind. I just pointed out how hypocritical you are.

                        • VictoryNotVengeance says:

If you go up six posts, thats where I started your conversation. So now I am jumping in to make sure you were refering to yourself as the one that tries to “flame anyone that doesn’t immediately bow to their perceived masterful intellect”

                        • Justacarolinian says:

Ahh, but that’s the entire point. mabsba and I were not talking with you, which is what you whined about so often before. She was replying to Froo. Now I did jump in and contribute, but I’ve never whined about others jumping in.

                        • VictoryNotVengeance says:

Well, I didn’t say to learn to be a carb guy; I said *a* carburetor. I still maintain that a reasonably intelligent, determined person can take *one* apart and put it back together. Doesn’t make you a carb guys any more than drawing the cow makes you the Picasso of cow drawers. Just pointing out that tasks are doable.

You’d be amazed how much car work a bunch of grad students can do when the alternative is no car to go get bbq in! And, yes, it took us forever. Of course now everything is computerized anyway, so it’s pretty moot.

Rebuild the starter? Nooooo…replace the $500 computer! Argh.

And love my mechanic, who is smart as heck and does these things so I don’t have to any more! :)

                      • Justacarolinian says:

Well, with loving grace, please understand that I mean you no disrespect. And I would bet that the meters were off on that carb. That takes a lot of practice. Even when you have talent.
Most mechanics get bored with the highly educated who try to talk down to us, or demand we explain the entire workings before we do the repairs.

                        • mabsba says:

Well, considering that we had to fix the carb because some supposedly trained mechanic had screwed it up, it was better than it was when we started! At least the car ran…. :)

And don’t complain to any woman about people talking down to you about cars. Geez. The way we decide if we’ll even look at cars on a lot is if the salesperson answers *my* questions. (They always answer my husband’s.) Ditto for shops. Fortunately we’ve had a really good mechanic for a long time now. Not as entertaining as the ones who were laundering $ for the mob in Austin, but very competent.

But I admire expertise in any field…and am equally annoyed by incompetence.

                        • Justacarolinian says:

Total agreement there, Ma’am. (Happy Froo?)
Just like there are bad doctors, teachers, policemen, ect…. you can get good ones and bad ones in any field. And even the best can make mistakes. Even with a high degree of both talent and skill.

                        • mabsba says:

Oh, about the apostrophe thing: just remember that when you make a contraction, you put the apostrophe in where you took the letter(s) out.
                          So madam becomes ma’am.

There actually are *some* simple spelling rules in English.

*English nerd helpful hint of the day*

Oh, that and don’t trust spellcheck. It, um, well, really no other way to phrase it, sucks.

                        • Justacarolinian says:

LOL, thanks for the help. I must plead that my skills are somewhat rusty, as I have had my head buried in some car or map since I graduated high school, back in the 80s.
See, if it was a talent, I would be doing it much easier. Though both talent and skill can be improved by practice and training. I’m sure Elvis practiced at some point, and more than likely took lessons too.

                        • mabsba says:

Hmm, your ‘aw, shucks, I’m just a mechanic and don’t remember all that book learning’ doesn’t really go that well with wanting respect for what you do/know for a living since it implies that *you* have been doing something *useful* instead. It’s a bit disrespectful to people who have chosen to stay with ‘that thar book larning.’ People won’t respect what you do for a living if you don’t respect what they do for a living.

Probably not how you mean to come across. I find people in any field are much more respectful if you just say, thanks, that’s good to know (as I frequently say to my mechanic) instead of trying to explain not knowing.

I, for example. learned that that stupid part that locks and unlocks my door is an acuator (sp?) and costs freaking $115! *kicks car door*

See what I mean, I haven’t used my written skills much, and didn’t get that across to you the way I meant. Then again, some of the most brilliant minds ever had troubles with written language.
I meant it simply that I am rusty at it, and doing my best to study again. It was my career choice, not that other’s weren’t useful. And a funny thing, I am a bookworm, and a speed reader. Yet it often seems I have to put a much larger effort into writing what I am thinking. But I don’t think I’m alone in that department.

                        • mabsba says:

Yep, that writing’s a lot harder than that reading! That’s why I get paid the big bucks! :)

Try Strunk and White’s “The Elements of Style.” also called White’s little book. Main problem is that we always know what we mean and we think that what we write says exactly that. but it seldom does, even for professional writers.

So what did I just say? Hm….

                        • Justacarolinian says:

Something I was told by a professional is that 85% of communication is actually body language, and one of the biggest reasons why people fail to communicate their thoughts in written form. And while I’m not the fastest keyboardist, I am well above 40 wpm, yet my fingers can never keep up with the whole thought. I go back sometimes and see things I left out. *sigh*

                        • mabsba says:

Yes, studies indicate language is at least 50% non-verbal at the best of times, which explains why I FAIL at Spanish on the phone, but am okay in person.

But to argue about the rather nitpicky difference between skill and talent then claim rusty language skills…come on. :)

                        • Justacarolinian says:

I wasn’t claiming rusty skills as the difference between the two, but rather mentioned them as why I didn’t come across to you as I desired. In no way did I wish to imply that others were not “usefully” employed.
And I will gladly disagree with you on the skill vs talent. American Idol is the perfect example. How much do you think the losers have trained and practiced? Both talent and skill can be enhanced, but you can’t fake a lack of talent.

                        • mabsba says:

Hmm…yes, but I won’t (disagree about such things). Just pointing out that you and VNV get in, well, heck, pissing matches over semantics when you know perfectly well what the other person means.

Must be the mom in me, but if you can’t get along with the other kid, don’t talk to him! :)

                        • Justacarolinian says:

Yeah, I tried that. But every time I have a point of view, or join any conversation, here he comes with the insults. And I figure it’s best to stand up to the bully. I’ve offered peace a bunch of times, admitting that we will never agree on somethings. But as soon as I disagree with him, or agree with someone he doesn’t like, I get the poop storm.
And it wasn’t just semantics. It was him trying to weasel his way out of something when he was called on it. He has the idea that he is too educated to ever make an error. And has boasted of it. I have never encountered such an ego in all my life.

The nonpartisan Joint Committee on Taxation reported that the House version of the healthcare bill specifies that those who don’t buy health insurance and do not pay the fine of about 2.5 percent of their income for failing to do so can face a penalty of up to five years in prison!
according to a recent analysis by the Congressional Budget Office, the lowest-cost family non-group plan under HR 3862 [the Pelosi bill] would cost $15,000 by 2016.

(fine=TAX for the few of you who actually work and can’t afford to pay the $15,000)

but people who never have and never will work a day in their worthless lives aren’t required to pay for a thing and get free insurance from cradle to grave whether it’s in jail or a housing project….yeah, that’s a great system.

    • VictoryNotVengeance says:

See, now there’s your problem. You just called all those people worthless. That’s the kind of mentality that caused most of our social problems today. Boo hoo poor Muslims….if it sucks so bad to be here, WHY DO THEY COME? Maybe because they know the country is infested with liberals idiots who’ll pay them to reproduce?

        • VictoryNotVengeance says:

Our country put them there to begin with. I say America needs to clean up its mess.

Ironically, the poverty rate was going down until the mid 60’s country wide. While the poverty rate was going down the crime rate was going down. Then the poverty decrease leveled off and has stayed about the same until today. Once the poverty rate leveled the crime rate went up and kept growing through the years as the people in poverty remained there. Correlation? I think so.

But there you go again talking trash about people’s brains a ability. I think anyone could be just as capable as I am and you are, but most of them have never seen that chance. Look up the “Cycle of Poverty”.

Or they could be fleeing persecution for being of a different sect. Or they could be looking for opportunities. And ironically, many of the immigrants we have now come to our country and work more than you do.

          • Rush L. says:

Many of the ILLEGAL immigrants come here and work tax free and send most of the money back to the 3rd world hell hole they came from. Most of them are too damn stupid to do anything but clean toilets, not exactly what I’d call “hard work”.The “cycle of poverty” is called pumping out kids you can’t PAY FOR and it was the government deciding to PAY PEOPLE to do it that caused it to INCREASE.

When criminals reproduce, the crime rate goes up, there’s a correlation for you.

    • GetMeOttaTexas says:

What is so fascinating to a frighteningly large segment of the US population about wanting to perpetuate the social and economic values of the 19th century? I really don’t get it. I’m a temporary transplant to the US. I have options; I can leave at the end of my period here and return to a higher standard of living, a higher quality of life, a fairer and more socially and equitably balanced and significantly less violent society (which by the very loose and slightly demented standards of some very vocal groups in the US is considered **omg** socialist in nature – although the correct term is “social democracy”) and spend my remaining years wondering why so many people in a free society like the US are so passive and accepting of what appears to me to be an oppressive and individually humiliating social/economic structure…

      • I Like Peanut Butter says:

B/C it’s a free structure not run by a government. A structure we can control. Choose whther to purchase a product, not forced upon us.

Take your arrogance and leave then. I’m quite content in my socio economic freedom. I don’t want the government giving me everything and paying 50-60% of MY income to taxes.

You obviously don’t understand the American mind set b/c you’re government was derived from thousands of years of a Monarchy, while our’s was the birth of TRUE DEMOCRACY.

        • GetMeOttaTexas says:

I wondered when the “love it or leave it” bumper sticker would come out. That is neither the point nor an answer. As long as I am here and I am paying taxes and social security, I’ll have an opinion, thanks. I’m also not European, so that assumption goes out the window. My country is also younger than the US by about 130 years, so from my standpoint I’d say we are a “newer model”. Our government is run by the people. We vote..they do what we want and if we don’t like it we vote them out; so any benefits provided by the government that is elected by the people are provided by the people for the people. It’s democracy…try it.

          • Justacarolinian says:

Pure Democracy is simply mob rule. Something the founding fathers decided against. Ask yourself why.

          • I Like Peanut Butter says:

Apparently we don’t vote people out of office. Wow that’s my mistake. I was under the impression that we had elections almost every year in this country. Guess the “I Voted” stickers I get are shams.

And our government will also do what the people wish. Once Health Care is passed, incumbants will lose, and the people will speak. Just b/c our people don’t want the same thing as your people doesn’t mean our governemnt isn’t of the people. We just don’t want our government to rule all. Hence the reason this country has grown and become as powerful as it has.

            • GetMeOttaTexas says:

I thought the government funded and paid for all that exciting weaponry that reinforces superpower status?

              • guest says:

The government doesn’t fund or pay for anything. Every dollar that is spent by the government comes from money that it has collected or will have to collect from it’s citizens. That includes money that it borrows from other countries to pay for things because eventually we the people will have to pay that back.

      • I Like Peanut Butter says:

PS: How long did it take for America to become a Super Power? Why you may ask, b/c of our spirit, our way of life, and our abllity to compete. Why is it rich europeans come to America for cancer treatment, burn treatment, HELL cosmetic surgery? B/c of our ability to grow and perfect b/c of competition that Europe sorely lacks.

        • GetMeOttaTexas says:

Historically, it took 169 years. 1945 is generally acknowledged as the date the US attained superpower status.

          • I Like Peanut Butter says:

Alright, how long did take for ANY other Super Power in the world?

            • GetMeOttaTexas says:

“superpower” is a term coined in 1945 to describe the status of a nation in possession of nuclear weapons. As of 1945 there was one. As of 1947 there were two. It took the USSR 30 years to achieve the new status of “superpower” although that is very likely an invalid way of looking at it and it assumes the birth of the USSR as a “nation” began in 1917. More valid would be “world power” status, I think. “Superpower” is a bit like making a special category of sport for the Olympics comprising two or three teams of one each and having them play each other.

Muslim Suffers Bruised Ego in Fort Hood Tragedy – HUMAN EVENTS

Comments Muslim Suffers Bruised Ego in Fort Hood Tragedy
    by Ann Coulter 11/11/2009

The massacre at Fort Hood last week is the perfect apotheosis of the liberal victimology described in my book “Guilty: Liberal ‘Victims’ and Their Assault on America.”

According to witnesses, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan entered a medical facility at Fort Hood, prayed briefly, then shouted “Allahu akbar” before he began gunning down American troops. Now I don’t know which to be more afraid of: Muslims or government-run health care systems.

President Obama honored the victims by immediately warning Americans not to “jump to conclusions” — namely, the obvious conclusion that the attack was an act of Islamic terrorism. As conclusions go, it wasn’t much of a jump.

But the mainstream media waited for no information — indeed actively avoided learning any information — before leaping to the far less obvious conclusion that the suspect’s mass murder was set off by “stress.”

The day after the slaughter, The New York Times ran one editorial and two of three op-eds asserting as much — which was at least one more than the Times usually runs about psycho-killer soldiers going on rampages.

Two days after the mass shooting, the Times’ laughably predictable headlines about the Fort Hood bloodbath were:
    – “Preliminary Inquiry Finds No Link to Terror Plot”
    – “Painful Stories Take a Toll on Military Therapists”
    – “When Soldiers’ Minds Snap”

The Los Angeles Times jumped to the exact same conclusion, running an article on the massacre titled: “Fort Hood Tragedy Rocks Military as It Grapples With Mental Health Issues.” Time magazine followed suit, posting an article titled: “Stresses at Fort Hood Were Likely Intense for Hasan.”

Inasmuch as Maj. Hasan had never been deployed overseas, much less seen combat, liberals seem to have discovered the first recorded case of “pre-traumatic stress syndrome.”

Their point was: The real victim of Fort Hood was Maj. Hasan. Indeed, all Muslims were the victims that day.

The media quickly set to work assembling lachrymose accounts of taunts Hasan had been subjected to in the military for being a Muslim, the most harrowing of which seems to have been his car being keyed at his off-base apartment complex.

I suppose we should be relieved that liberals weren’t
claiming Hasan snapped because of the dimming prospects for a
health care bill by the end of the year.

The evidence for the manifestly obvious conclusion we were supposed to avoid jumping to is rather more extensive.

According to numerous eyewitness accounts, Hasan denounced the “war on terror” as a war against Islam, said Muslims
should attack Americans in retaliation for the war in Iraq, defended suicide bombers and said he was “happy” when a Muslim murdered a soldier at a military recruiting center in Arkansas earlier this year.

Stranger still, he wasn’t auditioning for his own show on MSNBC when he made these statements.

Hasan shared a “spiritual adviser” with two of the Sept. 11 hijackers, Imam Anwar al-Awlaki, whose unseemly enthusiasm for jihad got him banned from speaking in Britain, even by video link.

A few years ago, Hasan delivered an hour-long PowerPoint lecture to an audience of doctors at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, arguing that non-Muslims should be beheaded and have burning oil poured down their throats.

He had tried to contact al-Qaida, and at least one U.S. intelligence official says the Army knew it. Despite being well aware of Hasan’s disturbing views and conduct, the Army did nothing.

Far less offensive speech has been grounds for discipline or even removal from duties in the military. In the aftermath of the Tailhook scandal, for example, two Navy officers were reprimanded and reassigned after putting up a sign with the words of a nursery rhyme altered to include a vulgar sexual reference to liberal congresswoman Patricia Schroeder.

But a Muslim Army doctor can go around a military installation somberly advocating the beheading of infidels, and the girls running the military treat him like he’s Nicole Kidman and they’re press junket reporters.

The Army’s top brass, Gen. George Casey, responded to the military’s shocking decision to keep a terrorist-sympathizing Muslim in the Army by announcing: “Our diversity … is a strength.” And I thought gays couldn’t openly serve in the military.

On Sept. 11, 2001, Muslims moved to the top of liberals’ victim pantheon on the basis of having slaughtered 3,000 Americans. Muslims were “victims” of Americans’ displeasure with them for the biggest terrorist attack in world history. The only American deserving of more coddling than a Muslim is the first African-American president.

So, now any dyspeptic expression toward a Muslim is grounds for calling in a diversity coordinator. And when the “victim” attacks, as at Fort Hood, the rest of us are supposed to feel guilty because Hasan’s car got keyed once. As with all liberal “victims,” it is the victim who is massively guilty.

Hey, fu(kweasel, next time post a fvcking link. Your comment has to be one of the douchiest things I’ve seen somebody do on here.

      • jim says:

I talked to one of my friends from Russia today about you, thinking I may have been a little unfair. I asked her what she would think of an “adult” from the USSR using a hammer and a sickle for an avatar. Wanna guess her opinion?

        • jim says:

          Yeah, I didn’t think so.

          • HelOnWheels says:

You actually believe that I care what you or your supposed “friend from Russia” think of my use of a funny photo of a banana/carrot hammer & sickle? Oh, that’s funny. You’re more conceited & deluded than I imagined.

            • Maxwell Supreme Socialist Presidictator of PK says:

I find it funny that he decided to speak to someone in Russia about someone who apparently made him look like an ignorant ass on the internet.
You want butthurt? jim’s butt has all the hurt!

              • HelOnWheels says:

And he has a massive crush on me. He’s talking to his friends about me!

              • jim says:

No, I decided to speak to a native Russian because upon reflection, I thought I might have been uncharitable. I took his words to heart and did care that I had offended him, perhaps unfairly. I had seen his hammer and sickle before, but had never engaged him in conversation. My assumption that he was young , a charitable assumption, was based entirely on the fact he would use a symbol like that at all. He considers that symbol to be funny, cute. Or says he does. An entire generation spent their lives in slavery in the USSR, and they did not have the option of leaving it. Yes, I know periodically Russia did allow some to leave. Those gains were hard won. But I would have expected those people to be grateful for the opportunity and not willing to belittle those who died trying to escape. Or to belittle those who respect them for their willingness to sacrifice everything to be free. If he believes in Communism, or Socialism, or wants to argue the minutia of Marxist doctrine as if it makes any sense at all, I wonder why he left it. It makes me curious to know if he would substitute a swastika for his hammer and sickle for a few months, perhaps a swastika made out of fruit. Something funny and cute. I would be very interested – if he was willing to consider it at all – what the reaction on this site would be, especially among those who did not know why he changed it.

                • HelOnWheels says:

Let’s see if I can wrap my head around your “logic”. You are comparing me to a neo-Nazi youth:

                  - Because I do not care what YOU think of me. Really?? I see no reason to care what you or your “Russian friend” thinks of me: you are an anonymous stranger, ON AN WEBSITE, who has zero impact on my non-web life. I highly doubt that you give a toss about my opinions of you. And if you do care then you I feel sorry for you.

                  - Because, apparently, I failed to show, what you believe is the correct level of caring for the Soviet Union’s oppression of its people. Obviously I’m cold hearted and you, in your care-troll guise, care more than the rest of us. What is the right level of “care” that I must show on a HUMOR SITE and when responding to your uniformed, prejudicial assumptions about my personal experiences? How quickly you forget that I was responding to a comment you made which made it sound as though the only way out of the USSR was in a body bag; that the only legitimate way, the only method that showed people’s desperation to get out, was to risk getting killed.

                  - Because I am using a photo of a veggie hammer and sickle as my avatar, which you find offensive and, according to you, I find “cute”. I don’t find it “cute”. The symbol has deep meanings (barring the negative connotations attributed to it): the unity between industrial and agricultural workers. That, to me is not offensive. I actually feel that this image, which I found and did make, has much deeper meaning than you’ve bothered to consider.

                  - Because I am a socialist. Seriously??!!! I came to the U.S. so that I could believe in whatever I wanted. We left a repressive oligarchy not because of the economic system. Once again, you have no idea.

                  - Because I have shown you to be an ass and ignorant about certain things. Get over it.

Yeah, based on your so-called logic I might as well grab a bat and start bashing Soviet immigrants on the head.

You have no idea how I really feel about being in the U.S. You just put on your care-troll mask because you were the only one offended by my avatar: “H.O.W hates freedom and mocks people who died fighting for it”. Puhhlease. Get over yourself. You’ve made assumptions that have no basis in fact. You know nothing about me, my experiences, and my beliefs (except my economic ones) and never will because I tend not to delve too deeply in to my personal life ON A FVCKING LOL SITE, especially with a complete stranger who is a judgmental troll. I have spent way too much on this. I am now bored and done with you.

                  • jim says:

Well, if you recall, you compared you to a white supremacist skinhead. That was how you started this conversation on the lol internet website with someone you dont know. I dont think you are cold hearted, but neither do I think you or many other people would find another symbol of oppression, a swastika avatar, amusing, or in your words “funny.” Something with deeper (positive) meaning. Nor did I say you were a communist or a socialist, I asked someone who keeps using socialist references (i.e. the unity of industrial and agricultural workers) and keeps a hammer and sickle avatar, if he believes in that nonsense. If you dont like somebody asking, dont bring it up. In this country, we do have the right to ask, to challenge. I never brought up your avatar until you engaged me with hyperbole. What you have shown is alot of anger when somebody disagrees with you, challenges you, or asks about remarks you have made. Yes, I was offended by your avatar, but I would have refrained from mentioning it; and no, I’m not the only one offended by it. I thought maybe I was over reacting when it offended me, so I asked someone else, someone whose relatives did die getting out after the civil war, if it was no big deal.

                    • HelOnWheels says:

I guess you’ll continue being offended. There’s nothing I can do about that. I can’t control how you react to something.

            • jim says:

No, I dont believe you care, I think that is why you use it. I think that was why you were so flippant when I brought up the border guards. I thought it might be just me that was offended by it, given the history of the USSR. I was relieved to know I hadn’t over reacted. For example, I can understand the use of swastikas by young people who dont really know better, they do it for shock value. But it would be an entirely different thing for somebody who was living in Germany during those years to wear it. Someone who, for example, explained nazism by quoting Mein Kampf. Especially if it wasnt long after the war. It is shocking and it is offensive.

          • You allowed 5 minutes for a reply? Talk about impatient!

        • You some how have gotten the mistaken impression that anyone cares what you OR your Russian friend thinks.

    • jim says:

I’m listening to Rush 24/7 and reading Ann at the same time. Life is good.

Rush just played a cut of Nancy Pelosi:
Q: Madam Speaker, do you think it is fair to send people to jail just for not buying health insurance?

Pelosi: For a long time now, people who haven’t had health care or provided it…have placed a burden on others. Everybody is paying the price for uncompensated care. I dont need to tell you that in a hospital. And so what this is…is to say that we all have to do our part. And that is the point of the bill.

Q: But Madam Speaker, I’m just trying to understand. If you don’t buy health insurance you go to jail? You really didn’t answer my question.

Pelosi: Well the point is, um, there is, there is…uh…uh…uh…I think the legislation is very fair in this respect (i.e. yes).

      • Maxwell Supreme Socialist Presidictator of PK says:

Yes jim, we get it. You think Rush and Ann and Palin are apparently the end all, be all of American society. So glad I live in a different America where they’re nothing but pundits.

          • Maxwell Supreme Socialist Presidictator of PK says:

Eh, not defending Pelosi at all, I think she’s one of those democrats we’d like to vote off the island. Her head’s far too big for her own good.
Just letting jim know that we understood a few lols back that his sources of information are not making him seem any more credible… Because apparently he thinks repeating it works.

            • dissimilitude says:

I really DO have a problem with criminalizing the personal decision NOT to get health insurance. That, I have to admit, pisses me off entirely.

              • Maxwell Supreme Socialist Presidictator of PK says:

Indeed, I think that’s going overboard. But I am also looking through the freakin 1900 pages of the bill to find where it says you could face jail time for not taking the public option if you don’t have one. But, all in all, from what I have mucked through so far, you just get taxed an additional amount if you don’t have a private insurer and chose not to take the public option as well. In my opinion, since the public option will be taken out of taxes, it’s seems rather butt-headed to not just take the public option. It’s like paying for a warranty that’s included in your new TV’s price, and then rejecting it’s use. Just seems stubborn.
But jail time is very over the top.

                • dissimilitude says:

Oh, the only thing I’ve seen is basically a fine (tax, whatever) but to me that’s still wrong. Although I can certainly see your point of view, I think it’s an encroachment on personal rights anyway. Fine with me to make an option available (I actually don’t have a problem with that…do I lose my Stinky Conservative Card? I know too many people with no real insurance options….), but don’t force people to take it if they don’t want to.

                  • Maxwell Supreme Socialist Presidictator of PK says:

Well I’ve already stated that I’m paying $125 in premiums under my current plan. And that’s over 1/5 of my paycheck… so the government would have to hike up my taxes by over 20% to make it a loss on the public option. Which I highly doubt they could do without spurring an outright french revolution style revolt. The problem is, the dems aren’t putting forth numbers as to how much this could cost. If they’d just come forward and say “Listen, the public option will cause a 1.5% (2% or 5% even.. whatever number it actually is) Then everyone will be able to figure how much they’d actually be losing/gaining with the public option and it could really open some doors for acceptance. But unfortunately, I think you and myself are probably 2 of the 50 people in the COUNTRY that have actually read any of the bill. Chances are… half of those 50 people are on this board… and not the one’s voting on it.
I will say this though: Ive read over 700 pages into the bill… and although I haven’t retained all the information within, I will say that my ass feels less sore reading that bill, than reading the 2 page list of clauses and stipulations of my current coverage from BC/BS. And as before, unless they raise my taxes by over 20% for this ONE bill, I’d be gaining a a lot.

                    • mabsba says:

Yeah, we paid $6K last year in premiums and about $3K over that in uncovered stuff (co-pays, etc). And we are hardly ever sick! I’d much rather give the $6K to the government if I was guaranteed that losing a job didn’t mean losing our health insurance.

*kicks dirt, muttering — haven’t read bill, don’t wanna read bill, pay senators to read bill*

PS A friend’s husband worked for an insurance company writing policies and almost got fired. Reason? His explanations of benefits were too clear! True story!

                      • Default User says:

Yeah, I make about $800 a month and pay $320 a month for health insurance. I would love not to pay that, but my medication alone would be about $400 without insurance. I also have a pre-existing condition so if I lose this insurance I might not get more. I would like to go to college so I can get a masters in library sciences but I don’t have much free time with my work schedule the way it is and if I cut my hours back I won’t have the money to pay for my insurance.

              • mabsba says:

We criminialize the personal decision NOT to get car insurance. Is that acceptable? Because in both cases, it’s to ensure that expenses are paid if there is an accident/serious illness which exceed the individual’s ability to pay.

But many states offer the alternative of posting a guarantee (sp?) bond in lieu of insurance. I’m sure that would be acceptable. :)

                • dissimilitude says:

See, Masaba, the difference to me is that with car insurance, we are criminalizing the decision to not carry insurance that covers damage WE do to OTHERS. With health insurance, not so much. The best comparison would be if there was a state requiring you to carry collision and comprehensive, not just liability. I don’t know of any.

                  • Justacarolinian says:

You took the words right off of my fingers.

                  • mabsba says:

Not really the point I was trying to make. Without health insurance, someone — meaning, of course, taxpayers and/or other users of the same hospital — would have had to cover the six figure hospital bills incurred by my son’s ICU stay. So our having insurance protected those people against costs. That’s the parallel I was trying to draw.

So if people choose not to have health insurance and then run up these bills? Most people don’t have that much money.

Unless, of course, you are the aforementioned spawn, in which case I think you have a bit more serious problems. :)

                    • dissimilitude says:

Weeelll….I can see that point, although technically if you didn’t have insurance you’d be personally responsible for the next 500 years. But, then, bankruptcy laws and all…so yeah, the hospital gets screwed. But what about the fact that, if you’d been uninsured, you’d get charged X dollars (say for argument $500,000) and you’d be held responsible for the full amount, where, say, Blue Cross can tell the hospital “HA! Let’s make that, say, $200k…” and get away with it.

                      Where’s the reform for THAT?

                      • mabsba says:

You are absolutely right. Insurance companies hold down prices for medical providers (not Medicare, which bases its prices on what insurance companies pay). And it’s totally, freaking unfair! Especially the way they pay less than uninsured people have to.

I think the whole idea of for-profit health care is a bit insane. I mean, you make more money if you deny me care? How is that ever going to work well for me? (Don’t mean you personally, of course. I’m sure you’d bring me cookies and all that.)

                        • dissimilitude says:

Oh, I completely agree with you. I’ll probably lose conservative cred, but I think we screwed up when we put companies with a profit motive between patients and caregivers. Given that this has now become, well, a “given” in our economy, I think a single-payer nonprofit plan might well be an improvement.

                        • A-HA! Now I’m taking your conserva-card. This gets me in at Disneyland, right?

                • jim says:

You can be jailed or fined for driving without car insurance. What exactly are you being jailed or fined for if you dont buy health insurance? Living?

            • Justacarolinian says:

I’m not mad at you one bit. You present yourself as everyone must accept what you say as if it were the word of God. And that doesn’t work, for either side. And there are some on the left end of the spectrum who do the exact same thing. And I speak up about them too.
And I give you the benefit of the doubt, as frustrated at how some will bash you just because your opinion is different. And it can be hard to communicate what you want to say. I know, as I’m not exactly the best communicator myself.
Rush does have some valid points, but his way of conveying them ruins it. I’ve only ever read one article from Ann, and it was right on. Didn’t have any venom in it either. I have heard some comments from her that were pretty nasty, so I don’t doubt what is said of her, to a degree.
When you declare Rush/Hannity/Beck/Coulter/ect…… to be THE source, all you do is show yourself incapable of researching for yourself, and look exactly like the crowd screaming “Faux Noise” or whatever Olberman and the like are shouting.
I’ve stated it before, and I’ll say it again. Most of the regulars have came in here with guns a blazing. Then figured out that most of everyone is here for fun, with a bit of discussion on the side. Though there are some who never had guns drawn, and some who deem themselves God on a daily basis.
Relax. Laugh at yourself, laugh at others.

I could see myself hanging out with the likes of Eddie, froo, shortright, etc. You on the other hand are someone I’d probably steal soda from at work if you worked with me. You are exactly the type of conservative that conservatives hate because you guzzle the pundits’ kool-aid by the gallon so you don’t actually have to think for yourself. You sicken me. And frankly I think any given liberal is a far better American than you are.

So… your sex is asking for liberty? Or… your liberty is achieved through sex? Oh god… my head hurts..

              • Frankly, either one sounds plausible..

              • dissimilitude says:

                LOL…I will go with “both”.

No, basically my position on any sex issue (gay rights, premarital sex, whatever) is that your morals and ethics are between you and your partner and any God you accept, and as long as you aren’t fvcking on my lawn (or with my guy!) or hurting anyone in ways they don’t want to be, I really don’t give a shit.

If you’re on my lawn, I reserve the right to turn the hose on you. ;-)

                • Maxwell Supreme Socialist Presidictator of PK says:

Or…. join in? *wink wink* A-thank you!

                • Justacarolinian says:

Dittos on the hose. And I agree with you, though I will say that I don’t want others ideals being forced on my children. Nor do I want my ideals being forced on other’s children.

                  • dissimilitude says:

I see passing my ideals on to my kids as my job; what they hear at school or on tv is my job to counter. Honestly, a lot of it’s just going to be up to them as individuals anyway….I’ve (so far) got one that’s gay, one that’s …scarily like her mother, and thank God married now, lol….and one that’s probably going to be at least 25 before she loses her virginity. (Well, maybe 30…). My son, I can’t tell so much. He’s still more into video games.

                    • Maxwell Supreme Socialist Presidictator of PK says:

That depends, I’m a huge Sci-fi/Star Wars/Gaming nerd and I lost my virginity at 16.

Maxwell, I’m 16 and trying *not* to lose my virginity in some freak accident.
Note- If you want your kids to keep their “virtue”, keep them away from metal guitarists ;)

“I’m 16 and trying *not* to lose my virginity in some freak accident.”

That’s hilarious … Now you’ve got me imagining all manner of “freak accidents”. I won’t elaborate … but it’s damn funneh. Thanks for the mental movies!

                      • I have Star Trek tattoos and lost my virginity at 15.

The Star Trek tattoos came later.. But you get the idea.

                        • Default User says:

Charro…if you were a guy I’d be all over you right now.
Unless it’s a Chakotay tattoo…Chakotay was a wimp. And should have hooked up with Janeway…/sulks.

For the record, I never Lost my virginity. I don’t know about the rest of you irresponsible people, but I know damn well what I did with mine. At the age of sixteen.

                        • DU – LOL, ok you have a point, I know full well what I did with my virginity.

No, it’s not a Chakotay tattoo. I have the Klingon symbol between my shoulders and the Borg one on my forearm.

                        • Hmm.. I don’t know. I just copied and pasted the “public” link.

                        • Naoyusimi says:

                          Got ‘em, now.
Dunno what it was. All kinds o’ weird happenings tonight, computer-wise. It’s probably me. Or the Thinkpad. Or the waning moon.

I’ve always loved the Klingon symbol!

                    • Justacarolinian says:

Yep, no matter how you raise them, they will be who they are on the inside. And no parent can control that, nor does it mean said parent was bad, or had bad genes.
But environment and influence does play a part. One reason why you need to be involved with your kids at home.
*Teach, your children well* Huh? Oh.
Yeah. If you are can’t be the loving influence most respected by your kids, you have problems. I thank God for the relationship I have with my sons and step children.

            • Oh, shite, what was I thinking!

*Smacks Rando for leaving out Diss. Eyes the soda, but decides to leave it as jim may have taken a sip.*

            • Justacarolinian says:

              I know. Ect.. *sigh*

        • Yes, etc. It covers everyone I forgot because I was typing fast. You’re still awesome, don’t worry.

      • jim says:

There are relatively few “conservatives” here, if they were conservatives, they wouldn’t spend so much time beating up other conservatives. Just as liberals seldom spend time picking on their own. In the few times I’ve been on the site I dont remember too many liberals beating up on Obama, yet a lot of “conservatives” spend an inordinate amount of time beating up on GWB, Rush, Ann. The liberals here do a lot of “pack” behavior, pretty nasty for the most part. Lots of name calling, vindictiveness. All the things they claim to be against. You would have to have a pretty thick skin to be a conservative on this sight.

        • So, do you think you have market cornered on conservatism around here?

          • jim says:

No, but like I say, liberals dont spend a lot of time bashing themselves. It happens all the time to conservatives here. I dont try to spend time beating on my own team or believe a conservative needs to balance every opinion with one that attacks us. I forget who it was the other day that said something conservative, but qualified it first with saying he thought Rush was an idiot or somesuch. And I’m not talking about anyone in regards to myself, I looked at this site for a while before I joined in.

            • Justacarolinian says:

That was most likely me. Because Rush CAN be full of turkey stuffings. Even when he is telling 100% truth, he ruins it with the ego.
I described Rush to my sons (coming of age) as someone with a great deal of inside knowledge of the American political system, and often dead on with gold nuggets of the inside of the Democratic Party. But like the gold my dad and I found in a creek on family land, it was buried in so much rock, that it costs more to get it out than it was worth.
And don’t think I don’t get that Rush is attempting to piss certain people off enough to make them go research things. Or demonstrating the absurd by being absurd. But he is not as correct as he would lead you to believe. Just a casual listener, driving a courier truck, listening to the news radio for traffic info, I have noticed how often he makes descriptions or predictions on things that turn out wrong, or at best, incomplete. I’m actually surprised his enemies haven’t documented that.
But I do love the Paul Shanklin parodies.

              • Justacarolinian says:

And I forgot. He needs to be as insightful about the Republican party as he is the Democratic. Wrong is wrong, no matter the party.

                • dissimilitude says:

Bit overblown, and he’s (I believe, correct me if I’m wrong) one of the people who has pissed me off by blaming society’s problems on single parents. Problem’s not single parents (or of course more specifically single mothers…) Problem is crappy parents, whether they’re married to each other or not. I think one decent parent is better than two crappy parents. Probably better than one decent parent constantly trying to deal with a crappy partner.

                  • Justacarolinian says:

Yeah, that was a backhanded slap. Last time I looked at that issue (being a single parent for 8 years) it was a statistical fact that even a bad 2 parent home had better odds than a single parent home.
I took it as a compliment, that I was doing better than a lot of 2 parent homes. There are very few things that make you feel better then when your kids are out of your site, and you get calls from other adults/parents on how well your kids behave, or what an honest thing/value you taught was done.
I really think he knows better, but it’s his choice to do so as a way of making more money, and a vain attempt to provoke others to thought.

                    • dissimilitude says:

I still find it personally insulting. :-)

But…yeah. I know we’re the exceptions to the rule. *sigh*

                      • Justacarolinian says:

I have found that the insults people sling at you in life tell you more about your good qualities and the faults of the one slinging them.

                    • mabsba says:

Remember Disreali: Lies, damned lies and statistics.
That statistic about ‘bad two parent homes’ is probably comparing apples and oranges in a big way. Most I’ve seen are.

Simple example: if you define ‘bad’ as abusive. kids raised in an abusive household are waaaay more likely to be abusive than kids raised by a single parent who leaves an abusive partner.

Of course, you can’t have any really good studies because the stupid kids won’t stay in their cages like good little lab rats. *goes chasing after straying subjects with stungun* :)

            • We generally avoid pundit devotion here. On the left we know Keith Olbermann exists more for entertainment than for serious political discussion. We tend to like Rachel Maddow a bit more as she’s not nearly over the top. But we seriously don’t like taking pundits that seriously because they do what they do for ratings, period. And on both sides ratings come from being nasty and vicious from the other side. Just because the conservatives here don’t all buy into Coulter or Rush or Hannity doesn’t mean they’re not conservatives.
Plus, this does tend to be a left-leaning website, so the conservatives who are thick skinned enough to make it here tend to hate the Republican or conservative sheep as well as the conservatrolls.
I’ll freely admit that I hate most conservative beliefs with a passion that gives me heartburn sometimes, but I respect the conservatives on here even if I think everything they believe is dead wrong. ;)

        • Justacarolinian says:

Big difference between conservative and republican. The only “conservatives” that get thwacked here by others is the ones who only tote the party line, incapable of independent thought.

          • jim says:

Party lines are usually based on overarching principals and are there to accomplish goals. The party whips and party discipline do play an important part in getting an agenda passed. I believe in the party line and core principals. Independent thinkers, or as I like to call them, loose cannons, do us in time and again. Take a guy like McCain, the notorious independent, he sank the republicans several times by doing something like the gang of 14 or McCain – Feingold. He was reaching his hand across the aisle at every opportunity. I dont see any Democrat doing that today. GWB reached across to the most liberal guy in Congress, Kennedy, to do the no child left behind bill, and Kennedy spent the rest of GWB’s term sniping at him. Do you know of any conservative Obama has reached out to?

            • Maxwell Supreme Socialist Presidictator of PK says:

Apparently as a socialist.. he’s reached out every single time he’s gotten a bill passed. Otherwise your republicans agree to socialist policies and pass them.

              • jim says:

I dont know, the percentage of Republicans on any of these bills has been pretty small. Obama’s has been one of the least successful Presidents in terms of bi-partisanship, and that is not due to the Republicans. Obama has for know enough votes in the House and the Senate that he could pass any bill he wants without the Republicans. That he has had so little success says a lot about his bills.

                • arimareiji says:

                  “not due to the Republicans”?

For Pete’s sake, they started screaming in opposition to telling kids to stay in school. He could propose a bill to build the Reagan Memorial right beside the Lincoln Memorial, exempt all millionaires from taxes, and make Christianity the national religion, and they would vote against it.

As the link proves, the Republican leadership have become closet Marxists.

        • dissimilitude says:

You can be conservative and still seek an open dialog with the other side. How else can you refine your positions and clarify why you hold them? Listening and debating only people who already agree with you leads to stagnation; while namecalling and acrimony are incompatible with civilized debate.

        • Maxwell Supreme Socialist Presidictator of PK says:

The conservatives here are definately conservative. And if you haven’t seen the conservatrolls here name calling then you really need to pay attention more. You can try to paint this in some kind of light that makes you the victim, but the truth is, we didn’t make you the victim. You’ve made yourself the victim, by letting yourself get bought into the hate, bile and vitriol spewed by those like Limbaugh, Coulter, and Palin. People with that mindset will not find any happy and open arms on this website. It’s a harsh fact, but if you do nothing but divide, insult, and lie, like they do, you’ll find no warm welcome here.

        • UnhappyVegemite says:

Liberals/Conservatives, Democrats/Reupublicans, Liberal Party/Labor Party they all suck. Let’s shoot ‘em all and let God try and sort ‘em out and while we’re at it we’ll add all the religious people too (though He/She would have His/Her hands full trying to understand what the fvck the idiot politicians are all trying to say)

I will say this though, when the most prominent Republicans in US politics are a couple of media commentators, instead of elected representatives of the American voters, then something is very seriously wrong with democracy in America.

  26. GreenFuzzyLeaf says:

Ugh. Please don’t give those two ideas. *shudders*

And Obama’s hanging around her hemmorhoids…

      • arimareiji says:

That’s not a very nice thing to say about the Republican Senate leaders he keeps trying to persuade not to take their balls and go home…

I mean, isn’t the bipartisan thing to do to at least keep trying? Even if they have closed their eyes, covered their ears, and started screaming LALALAIDON’THEARYOULALALAEEBILNAZIHEALTHCARE, he should at least try.

  28. Ignatz says:

Never happen. She’s not an underage Dominican girl; there’s not enough Viagra in his doctor’s sample cabinet to induce Rush to hit that.

And this is why I hate lolnews. Nothing but a bunch of liberals who can’t come up with anything clever to say so they go about calling people names.
