We have quakes, yes. Though big ones are less frequent than in Cali. And they tend to be deeper, so less damaging. Though if the subduction zone off the coast goes off.. well I’m glad I don’t live on the coast, or downtown Seattle. That’ll be one nasty quake.

St Helens isn’t the one to worry about anymore. It’s Rainier. That baby is active, and has at least in the US, if not all of North America, the most glaciers for a volcano on it. The trick is, not to live in it’s path of destruction. Why people live at the base of it… I have no freaking clue. Like Orting, WA, which is not only at the base of the volcano, but built in a lahar path, with the elementary school first in line to be hit.

Though if Yellowstone goes off, chances of us getting buried under ash is slim due to wind flows.

As for rain, as long as you stay away from in and around Forks, WA it’s not nearly as rainy as people spout it off to be. Seattle only gets 4″ of rain more than national average. Buffalo NY has more rain than Seattle. If you want sun, live in Sequim, WA. Very little rain a year.

And with the exception of once every 10-12 years, our seasons are fairly mild.

OMG, you are such a liar!!! We have crap weather, are you forgetting the 6 months of winter. Did you miss the two months of 60-degree “summer” we had this year?? We have tornados. The wind off the lake will freeze off your extremities in seconds. I love Chicago but the weather is “interesting” and challenging.

Srisly, I think you may be right. Photos of microbursts are rare, but there were a fair few aircraft brought down by them before their existence was discovered.

That is not a tornado. That is a supercell storm with the potential to put down a tornado. But what you are looking at is the hail/rain shaft or possibly a micro burst.

ohio – no earthquakes (besides little ones that don’t even knock the pictures on the walls sideways), no tornados (unless you’re way south), 4 full seasons and unless you’re in the snow belt, the winters aren’t too bad.

i unfortunately live in the snow belt so getting 3′ dumped in a 24 hour period is par for the course.

So far it’s a tornado in Minnesota, a tornado in Nebraska, and a wall cloud. I see no reason why it couldn’t also be a hurricane.

I didn’t read all the comments cause im lazy, so im not sure if this has been said already, but isnt that a hurricane? I live in Iowa so i’ve seen my fair share of tornadoes, and i’ve never seen one that looked like that. Doesn’t mean its not one, it could very well be, i just thought it looked like a hurricane

If I live on the east coast, it’s cold and hurrican-y. South east coast, hurrican-y and floody. South coast is floody and dirty. Southwest coast is California, and no one wants that. West coast has earthquakes. Northwest coast has rain, earthquakes, and mt saint Helens. And anywhere in the middle is covered in either snow or ravaged by tornadoes.

You know, I live in the outskirts of Tornado Alley, and I’ve been through my share of them. I’ve also been accused of doing some really stupid things in my life for which I probably should have died.

But if I go the rest of my life never having seen a tornado close enough that I can see the whites in the cow’s eyes, I think I will die content.
