Thank G_d for the new administration.

    • I’m not so sure about that caption statement. Some people get shot by Kellermans, and sometines even in their sleep.

    • slaggingham says:

Not really. There’s something to be said when you accuse your opponents of using “scare tactics” against your healthcare plan, and 30 seconds leter you’re explaing why we will ALL DIE POOR AND ALONE IN HELLISH MISERY FOREVER WON’T SOMEONE THINK OF THE CHILDREN AIIIIGHHH!!!!! if it doesn’t pass.

      • We all die alone, anyway.

        • HelOnWheels says:

I won’t. I’m taking as many people with me as I can! ;-)

          • That reminds me of the joke that goes: “I want to die peacefully in my sleep like my grandpa, and not like the other people screaming in the car as it went over the cliff.”

            Or something like that..

            • AC says:

Lol, I don’t know how many times I’ve heard that and I still laugh…

            • No1askedme says:

Why would anyone want such a boring death? When I finally go out, I want it to be spectacular enough it makes international headlines!

              • Rando the Floydist says:

Yeah, but those kinds of death generally…hurt.

                • No1askedme says:

Screw the pain; if I’m gonna do something, I’m gonna do it right!

                  • Rando the Floydist says:

Death doesn’t scare me. DYING. That scares me.

                    • No1askedme says:

Why does dying scare you? I learned to accept the nature of death years ago. I figured that in order to have respect and understanding for life, one must do the same for death. Death is just another part of life. We are born, we live our lives, we age, and we die; falling into oblivion. This discussion is rather fitting, as I learned today that someone I once worked very closely with died about a month ago. I do not feel sadness, nor am I complaining about it or ranting about how unfair it is. Although she went far to early (she was only in her mid 50’s or so) she lived her life well and was happy, no one could ask for more than that. Death and dying are natural, and once we accept them as an inevitable part of our lives, we can begin to appreciate the deaths of others, as well as our own. I must say, In death, I see a sort of serene beauty in the completion of nature’s cycle.

P.S. Sorry about the poeticism near the end there, it tends to sneak up on me at times.

                        You scare me…

I never said I was real sane… Then again, what good is sanity anyways?

                        • viking gal says:

Serene beauty? Not the death I’ve seen. But at least he wasn’t in pain…

                        • No1askedme says:

Meh, like I said, I’m a little nutty. Death and destruction are to me what paintings and music are to most. Not that I cause any, I just have the same level of appreciation for it. It’s difficult to explain in words: to me death is somewhat beautiful, but killing different and I find it unpleasant. Like I said, it’s hard to explain…

                        • dissimilitude says:

Ever considered working/volunteering in a hospice? Not being sarcastic, but it just seems like it would be a good match.

                        • No1askedme says:

Well, my plan is to get a career in either the ecology or biology fields , but it’s always good to know that I could become a coroner or autopsy technician as a fallback plan. Besides, I’m not obsessed with death, I just have a greater appreciation for it than most people. It’s not like I follow people around waiting for them to die or anything like that.

                        • I can imagine it would freak people out if they saw you skulking (isn’t that a great word?) around behind them with a balaclava on..

                        • No1askedme says:

P.S. In short, drop the subject.

                        • No1askedme says:

                          WTF?! nesting fail.

                      • No1askedme says:

Oh, I misunderstood. Well, either way, you have my perspective now I guess. It seems to have spawned some discussion, I guess it was worth it.

                      • bitter troll says:

saying something like that sounds like something they would say AFTER the death…and since most dead people dont talk ( some do! ) you dont get to hear that

                      • Rando the Floydist says:

Oh, and there is no serene beauty in death. I had to sit and watch my baby die in February because she was born too early to be saved. There was nothing beautiful about it. It proved once and for all that the world has no justice, no karma. Bad things happen to good people, and innocent babies die. If you haven’t actually witnessed death, then you’re probably a little out of your league saying there’s a “serene beauty” to it.

                      • dissimilitude says:

It’s not been my (limited) experience, but I’m willing to believe that under the right circumstances, there could be serenity at death.

My only thought, really, was that somebody who’s not as freaked out by death as most of us are would be well suited to work with the dying.

                      • Rando, for the most part I agree. There are instances though where a person dying is peaceful as they take their last breath. On the other hand, I’ve seen more than my fair share of people dying in horrible ways and there is absolutely nothing serene watching someone die in a great deal of pain, crying for the love of their mother. The ONLY thing that you can do is hold their hand and hope to God the pain passes quickly.

Well f*ck, I’m flashing back now and I’m completely bummed.

No1, Rando is right. If you haven’t seen some die painfully, I suggest you do so. It will abuse you of the notion that death is serene.

                      • No1askedme says:

I’m entitled to my perspective. I know that it may be disturbing to some, but I’m not trying to force my views on you am I? I’m well aware of how strange I may seem, but I’m not hurting anyone. So back the hell off!

                      • It’s not that your views are disturbing, it’s more that you may have a false perspective of what death can be like.

                      • Maxwell Silverhammer says:

I once almost choked on a drumstick… and you know what my final thoughts were before I was saved by a well played Heimlich maneuver was: “God I hope my obituary doesnt say died by choking on his chicken.”

                      • Rando the Floydist says:

Yes, exactly, Eddie. Most people who have seen an unpleasant death don’t think like that, No1. We’re under the impression that you haven’t seen a really unpleasant death. Seriously, it would change your mind.

                      • Danbala says:

Yeah… The process of dying can be rather nasty in all ways, but once you’re dead, you’re dead, as far as I see it. I see no reason to hold on to notions of afterlives, but I can fully understand why people want to. It’s a bit like understanding why people like strawberry icecream while I can’t really stand the stuff. :p

                      • Rando the Floydist says:

                        ROTFLMAO Max!!!!!!!!!

                      • Danbala says:

(Oh, and I don’t think the process of dying is the same thing as death.)

                      • That’s true, Danbala. Death is end result of the process. I’m not afraid of dying, I just don’t want it to be painful.

                      • No1askedme says:

I’ve seen it, don’t think I’d be hypocritical enough to speak of had I not! My grandmother died from Alzheimer’s, a truely awful and pathetic way to go; the last time I saw her she didn’t even recognize her own son, is that enough of a perspective for you!? I’ve witnessed more than my share of death, don’t think I’m unaware of the gruesome forms it can take! Look, I may criticize people’s views sometimes, BUT I NEVER CALL THEM WRONG! I’ve known plenty of people who have died early and painful deaths. NEVER CALL ME NAIVE AGAIN WITHOUT PROOF!

                      • First of, chill the f*ck out, ok? I didn’t say you were wrong, I said you may have a false perspective. I will grant you that you may have seen the gruesome side of death, what I’m trying to work out is how that coincides with a serene death?

Secondly, quit f*cking yelling at me, ok? I’m going to be more inclined to weigh what you have to say without your hysterics.

Thirdly, watching someone die from alzhiemer’s (as bad as that is), I think I can say that it doesn’t even begin to compare to someone dying from having their body blown apart.

And lastly, I do know there are times when people can have a serene death. It happened with my father, my mother, and my sister. All three of them just quietly slipped away. No pain, no suffering, and without the fear of dying.

                      • No1askedme says:

Look, like I said, it’s hard to explain. It’s not a concept I expect anyone to understand. It’s like trying to explain green to someone who’s colour blind, the concept simply is incomprehensible to someone lacking my perception. My mind is not real stable and my personality is not normal, I do not perceive the world in a normal fashion. My view of the world is exceptionally dark, everyday life feels like a Poe story to me: everyone is full of hate for one another hidden behind fake smiles, hiding from themselves out of fear of who they really are; because deep down they all want to choke the life out of each other. You haven’t even seen my darker side yet, because I keep it hidden for the sake of those around me, as well as my own. To me the world of humanity is nothing but a world of masks and lies, allowing such thoughts to roam freely can affect me rather adversely. All I can explain to you is this: you do not understand my perception of death because you cannot understand it, nor will you ever be able to understand it unless you become as twisted an individual as I have become; not something I would really suggest you try to do. My view of death is only a small portion of my thoughts, and if it was enough to bother you I guarantee you see any more of them.

                      • No1askedme says:

P.S. This is my way of kindly asking to drop the subject.

                      • Ok, fair enough. I can accept that your perception is going to be different from mine. For me, I have dealt with it in real world terms. Suffice it to say, you have your opinion, and I have mine.

                      • AC says:

Can I chuck an opinion in?
                        No1 is quite pretentious.
                        Sorry, plzkthxbai.

                      • Dhoti says:

                        And violently naive.

                      • HelOnWheels says:

I agree with you, AC. Also, if you want to “drop a subject”, as No1, claims don’t you just stop reading/responding, not throwing hissy fits.

                      • Squid says:

I agree with you, Everybody dies, it’s just what happens, now the actual manner of my death…well I hope it doesn’t involve a whole lot of slow, agonizing pain. One of Clint Eastwood’s best lines from The Outlaw Jose Wales “Dyin’ ain’t hard, it’s livin that’s hard”

                      • Hope says:

What scares me about dying is…. well, what if there really IS nothing after life?

                      • Rando the Floydist says:

So, to recap, No1 is emo. I guess it’s possible death could be serene, but I’d certainly call that the exception more than the rule.
and Hope, if there’s nothing after you die, then you really won’t be missing anything then, will you?

              • Danbala says:

Neh – I want to be remembered for how I lived, not how I died. They might turn out to be realted, but the living bit is far more important to me. :)

                • No1askedme says:

I agree, but it’s nice to plan for the future.

                  • Danbala says:

… but the future is still within being alive. Anything past being alive is just … pointless.

So – sure – there might be a wee point to dying spectacularly, but I ain’t gonna waste no time planning that while I still have living days to plan! :)

                • bad fairie says:

@danbala how you lived is exactly right -
i want my eulogy to be about how i took the time to play with my kids when they were little and grandkids if i’m ever blessed, what i don’t want is ‘but she kept her house so neat and tidy’
i don’t care if you write in the dust on the table, just don’t date it ;)
but seriously – life is about the journey, not the destination; especially since we all get there one way or another

Isn’t it funny how I said it was thanks to the current administration and you said after that it was despite the new administration? I always find it fascinating how one’s political siding changes the whole paradigm of reality! Wire tapping good fun!

Can you go a day without trying to pick a fight? Please?

        • VictoryNotVengeance says:

Can you go a day with not commenting on something of mine that you don’t like? I wasn’t picking a fight at all. We both literally said the opposite in the matter of 2 minutes. It was funny. Get a grip.

          • The Amazing Rando says:

I’ll take that as a no.

            • VictoryNotVengeance says:

Take it however you want to take it. The fact is, not every comment I say is starting a fight. The fact is, sometimes I say things that I persoanlly consider to be ironic. If you don’t get it, I don’t care.

Entirely not true. Just Saying. Actually, you have a group of people who respond negatively to whatever I write, no mater what I say. And then you and Rando want to come around and pretend you are the moral judge of the page. If you got a problem, ban me. Otherwise…. find something better to do to try to find the “fight” in everything I say.

                  • justacarolinian says:

Funny, I didn’t reply to you. Even funnier, you seem to look for some way to bring about your world view in any comment you can. You want some cheese to go with your whine today?

                    • VictoryNotVengeance says:

Oh please, pal. You know good and well you were sitting at wherever you sit, beating off with the hopes that I would say -anything- and then someone would start talking trash so you could join in. You are as transparent as that screen protector you keep spitting on.

                      • justacarolinian says:

The only one beating off around here is you. You got all excited thinking that I said something to you.
That said, you DO go around just looking for some way to try and smack down anyone that doesn’t shout your world vision.
Try not to bend your tweezers.

                      • VictoryNotVengeance says:

You didn’t say something -to- me. You saw where I had said something, and immediatly responded sucking up to the first person who said something against me. You -always- do that. Always. And I will not respond to anything further to you this go round because if I do Rando will accuse me of “starting a fight.”

                      • justacarolinian says:

So basically you are saying you bent your tweezers?
Oh, and you do start up with any one who doesn’t adhere to your world domination plans. Every chance you get. Semmp might have been typing at the same time you were, and not seen your comment, but you had to go bashing.
Go ahead, most everyone around here can see that you start it. And I am willing to bet they call you on it. No one is allowed to disagree with you, or you are going to pwn them. NOT.
And yes, I kept it up with you one day. I let you shoot off your mouth and made sure everyone saw your world vision.

                Ah Men!

              • Semperfidd says:

I’m gonna tell my wacked out fundamentalist preacher on you!!!!!!

I must have missed that part where the Democrats didn’t get corporate “donations”. And yes you are right, there are no wacked out fringe groups on the left.

“Overall, corporate PACs gave 56.6% of their $6.2 million in contributions to Democrats in the first quarter of 2007, according to PoliticalMoneyLine, another nonpartisan tracker of political funds. During the whole of the previous campaign cycle — the two years that ended with the 2006 elections — Democrats got just 34.1% of the $140.6 million that corporate PACs gave to congressional candidates.

Big companies that have shifted their funding in Democrats’ favor so far this year include General Dynamics Corp., whose PAC gave 62% of its $210,500 in contributions to Democrats in early 2007, compared with 64% to Republicans in the previous election cycle. PACs for Honeywell International Inc., Home Depot Inc. and insurer Aflac Inc. have also greatly increased the proportion of their giving to Democrats.” WSJ

                Opps…you fail…next

I do admire you if you vote though. It is my belief that you have no right to bitch about the government if you don’t vote.

              • Although truthfully, fundamentalist preachers don’t control everything, they’re more like the puppet masters.

                • Semperfidd says:

Come on Eddie. You know that fundamentalist preachers run the republican party. Don’t you remember the talking point memo’s you recieve daily in order to fight the evil left?

                  • Well, yes, but aren’t they more like the guys pulling the strings? Or have we actually elected a fundy preacher to Congress. And seriously, that would scare the bejeezus out of me.

                    • VictoryNotVengeance says:

I think its TV exposure. Sometimes during some of the campaigns you would hear so much about the radical religious right that you certainly would assume they must be in power. And they were certainly out and about trying to get voters to vote republican during the second Bush term. Not that I care, but it seems like “morality” changes from left to right depending on who they think they can sell it to the most in any given election year.

                      • One minor point, at least from my experience, I don’t recall any fundamentalist preacher ever encouraging their ‘flock’ to vote Democrat..

                        • VictoryNotVengeance says:

                          Yeah…. me neither…

                        • Clearly you’ve never been to one of the black churches in my city. Very old-school, hardline, come-to-Jesus fundamentalist, very, very big on pushing the Democratic candidates for local and national office.

                        • But then that would be an oxymoron wouldn’t it? I mean, nearly every fundie reacher I have heard of is against abortion and they push that agenda as often as possible.

                        • CyanEyed says:

It seems we are working from different definitions of ‘fundamentalist’.

                        • Rando the Floydist says:

What’s your definition CyanEyed? I’m just curious. I don’t see anything out of the ordinary with anything that diss or Eddie said.

                        • CyanEyed says:

Well, by my definition, a fundamentalist Christian is someone who believes the bible is the inerrant, exhaustive word of God. Hence the ‘fundamental’ part.

                        • CyanEyed says:

Well, the bible says something about homosexuality being an abomination, and whatever, so yeah, that’s something I’m against (as a fundamentalist), and on my last trudge through Leviticus, I think damaging an unborn child was also not allowed, so (as a fundamentalist) I’m against that too.
Fundamentalism is simple, like i said.

                        • paws4thot says:

The Bible also says (I think in Leviticus) that you should not eat pork, shellfish, dishes that mix flesh and dairy goods…

                        • I’d point out that I was talking about a specific subset of fundamentalism, that being fundamentalist black congregations in the part of the South I live in, and their tendency to encourage their congregation to vote for Democrats regardless of the disparity between their beliefs and the party platform.

                        • CyanEyed says:

                          @paws

True, but in acts it removed the old testament dietary restrictions.

                    • Or have we actually elected a fundy preacher to Congress.

Not Congress that I know of, but Mike Huckabee is a fundy preacher and was governor of Arkansas. (Yes, it does count as a real state!)

              • bitter troll says:

you would be allowed to vote on the goverment, if they didnt just burn all the votes and elect someone whom america will be to busy swooning, crying , cheering or booing over that we wont notice the world has been taken over by CRAB MEN!!!

            • AC says:

Why does everyone have “floydist” in their name now?

              • Believers in Pink Floyd.. It’s the NEW religeon..

                • Semperfidd says:

Floyd 1994 Dallas. One of the best concerts I ever went to.

                • Rando the Floydist says:

But how long before Floydism splits into different sects? The Waters sect and the Gilmour sect? And the fringe Syd Barrett sect.

                  • Semperfidd says:

                    good point

                  • Well, the original Floydists chose to follow Syd. Unfortunately they weren’t as bright and shiney and ultimately discovered the error of their ways. They consquently came back to the fold, but by that time the Waters and the Gilmour sects had already formed, leaving the Syd-ists sitting on the fence. What people haven’t realized is Floydism isn’t based on the person, but rather on the music as a whole. In the end, all fences were mended upon the revelation that PF would be granted access to the hallowed halls of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

In addition, let it forever be known that Richard Wright is off doing The Great Gig In The Sky. The fundamental Floydist are looking for signs of his return, but alas, would you want to come back here?

                    • Rando the Floydist says:

The Waters & Gilmour sects basic disagreement is over whether the music that does not involve all 4 members (The Final Cut didn’t have Wright, and only had Mason for some of it. Momentary Lapse & Division Bell obviously didn’t have Waters) should be included in the Floydist canon. And thus, the holy wars were waged until Live 8 when all 4 members reunited for the last time.
And I’ve never really liked Syd Barrett’s Pink Floyd, but he’s still the one who started the band’s innovations, so he’s still a Floydian prophet in my book.

And verily, did the Barack, upon being annointed by the MSM, did indeed smite the McCain and came to rule the land, protecting it with his Lightsaber of Truth and Justice, and bestowed many miracles upon the land. For did not the Dead (with the help of ACORN) arise from the grave to vote for him, I ask you? Thus HE spoketh “give unto Obama that which is Obama’s and everything else too” and then HE quieted the masses by saying ” STFU- We won!”? Do not the children sing HIS praises in New Jersey? And did he not gather unto him the GM, the moneylender banks and the healthcarehealers under his magnificent cry of “Yes We Can!”? Like the Holy Handgrenade of Antioch, he has smitten his enemies, the talk radio and the Palin ! May HIS merciful blessings flow…………In the name of the Biden, the Pelosi and the Rahm- Amen.

I never said it wasn’t funny, just saying that TheOne is revoking the conservatives right to complain about “Reagan Worship”
Most of us here find the “Obama is the messiah” schtick very funny, cause it is just that, a big joke.

    • No1askedme says:

The government definitely has an obligation to protect it’s people, but we citizens also need to get thicker skins. The government can only do so much before it becomes harmful, but we also need to realize we need at least a little help from the government to keep things running relatively smoothly and fairly.

    • CyanEyed says:

Oh yes, must be afeared of teh protesters/terrorists.

That’s funny people always tell me that I’m an above average Nazi…

      • randman83 says:

Really? I got poor marks all across the board on my Nazi qualifier exam. Mostly due to my lack of a proper mustache, baldness, and tattoos. I’m a bad Nazi. :(

        • mmm,mmm,mmm says:

You ruined my run on the recent comments board…

        • Oscar the Mild says:

I too, had a shocking qualifer exam – but I pleaded to go to a make up exam, where I shot all the examiners. this is known as an automatic Nazi pass and am know a proud member of the Gestapo. Unfortunately, all’s we are confined to is finding and torturing people who use your when they mean you’re, or in the case of Arnie “Yah!”

          • Oscar the Mild says:

*sneaks in and capatilises the t, adds an I before the am, steals extra k from know, changes all’s to -all that -, hopes fellow officers don’t notice and drag him to The Special Room*

          • keithybabes says:

            Lack of baldness, surely?

            • randman83 says:

yes, it was a lack of all of those things. I never changed the adjective in the run of subjects, so the “lack of” was meant to apply to all those things. The baldness just meant I couldn’t be a neo nazi. Although, I think it would be pretty damn funny to see a bald neo nazi with a Hitler stache and lots of tattoos. That’s a rare combo.

        • Outback Jon says:

Sounds like you’d make a good neo-Nazi, though. But a traditional Nazi, not so much.

  16. slythwolf says:

Possibly you missed something on this one, but right now it’s in fact the Republicans calling the Democrats commie Nazis.

    • keithybabes says:

Yes, but the democrats are calling the republicans Nazi commies. Having said which, all I know about America is what I read on this blog, so maybe this kind of discussion doesn’t happen on the streets….

      • Rando the Floydist says:

We actually make sure to wear red (Republicans) and blue (Democrats) clothes so we know who is who and can sling the appropriate insults as often as possible. Independents aren’t allowed to leave the house.

  17. hans says:

    *sigh* Typical America

  18. Philip says:

The same goes for Europe (only in Europe, we shoot eachother less often and don’t call eachother communists and nazis as much).

    God, we (europeans) rule.

  19. K says:

Capture true, however, you can always be labeled an “enemy combatant” and shipped down to Guantanimo (or a similar facility). Then people start debating on whether you have rights and if water boarding is torture and promise to shut it down but really don’t make too many moves in that direction. Ah well.
