When I was on Diego Garcia there were a people working there from the Phillipines. They make something called lumpia that is so much better than spring rolls. And the best part is the filling can be anything you want!

Fast food. It’s cheap, it’s not real healthy, but sometimes it’s pretty damn irresistible. Thoughts?
It’s cheap if you do it once a week. If you have a really lazy cooking week, suddenly you’ve blown the whole grocery budget on KFC & Taco Bell.
Oh, and it’s not real healthy is an understatement. It’s not real healthy like I’m not real conservative. LOL
I HATE it about myself that sometimes the craving for a goddam Quarter Pounder w/cheese is irresistible. Hate it. McStupid is the worst.
Blech. I can’t even go inside fast food places, the smell is so unbelievably disgusting…

What I hate about myself is that sometimes we’ll pick up McDonald’s because it’s on the way home or something, and the food is just crap. And yet, I eat it anyway. And I think to myself, “I paid money for this?” Yet I go back. Why? Because it’s convenient. Sad, but convenient.
Meh, we’re all subject to laziness, it’s the human condition. That aside, I cannot eat McFail food, it tastes worse than cardboard and makes me sick just thinking about it.
I like the fries if they’re within like the first 2 minutes out of the fryer. Anything beyond that and you can use them as tent stakes.
My occasionally overwhelming “damn, I know this should come with a coupon for bypass surgery” craving is Checker’s bacon cheddar ranch fries.
Those just sound nummies.

Near where I live in Vancouver (Olympic Town) There is no Taco Bell, and I have no idae what a “Checker” is, but we’ve got 24hr Tim Hortons with doughnuts so good people have died from them.
(True story – Tim Hortons was sued when some guy stopped breathing after going through the DT. He choked on a cruller and ran down a pedestrian.)
That’s so horrible! I must visit this place and try their doughnuts.
Sure – Head north, cross the border, and you’ll find a Tim Hortons in every city, village, town and two-bit fork in the road. They’re up here like Starbucks down there. The coffee’s not that great, but the doughnuts will blow your “KrispyKreme” off the map.
KrispyKreme donuts are awful, they’re too sweet. Where I live (Mission Viejo CA) there’s like 5 donut places owned by asian immigrants, but donuts I’ve ever had. Fresh donuts are the best!
Yeah KrispyKreme are pretty awful. Now Shipleys, that’s another story. As for coffee, I’ll admit I’m spoiled. Community coffee is about as good as coffee can get in the US. Starbucks is just a waste of space.
If you want real coffee, get anywhere but in the States.

Hey, I just realized that my lunch from Arby’s had something from every food group. Regular roast beef sandwich = meat and bread (grain), and the jalapeno popper is a vegetable, with dairy (the cream cheese filling), dipped in something fruit-related (bronco-berry sauce, whateverthehell is in that. Probably 98% HFCS and 2% red 40!)
Pizza has all four food groups, too!!!
I like California Tortilla and refuse to call it fast food. I mean, there’s no drive through, you have to wait for your order, and they play great 80’s music!!
Worked at Arby’s for 3 years. Trust me, you don’t want to know what’s in the Broncoberry sauce. You also don’t want to see what those roasts look like before they are cooked.
I worked there for two days. Mina’s right.
Bad thing is that even though I know all that, I still eat there sometimes.
UGH! Arby’s is disgusting! The first and only time I ever ate there I couldn’t even take four bites because my sandwich tasted like I was eating straight salt and butter spread on a sheet of rubber put in a bun! On top of that, I felt sick the whole next day!

I suspect Taco Bell might be cheaper than cooking actual food. I know I eat too much of it! But when I have about an hour between my day and night jobs and have to deal with traffic and changing clothes….fast food is it. And there’s a Taco Bell less than a block from my usual post for my night job.
And something about bacon on chicken ranch gorditas is just irresistible.

P.S. I have always preferred Del Taco to Taco Bell. It’s way worse for me, but I can’t help it, they have REALLY good cheese!
There’s only like one Del Taco that I’ve seen in St. Louis, and I’ve never been there. Jack in the Box tacos are also tasty, but not real meat.
I know what you mean. Taco Bell is really the only place close to my job and if I don’t pack a lunch I have to go there to eat. It’s sad that the people in the drive through recognize the squeaky breaks and are saying my order before I even get my window rolled down.
Yes Taco-Bell is true proof that the anti-Christ is among us. We have one right around the corner unfortunately and the number of 1am trips is probably in the thousands. El Pollo Loco is a heathier alternative I believe, but not as convienent.

El Pollo Loco is “Mexican” food specializing in grilled chicken. It comes with slightly less guilt than Taco Bell since nothing is fried, but is not around the corner or open late. So the guilt-ridden midnight trips to Taco-Bell will continue.
As an aside, has anyone heard the track “Combination Taco-Bell and Pizza Hut” by Das Racist (Wallpaper Remix)? Very funny and extreeeemely catchy. I believe it’s a free download if you’re curious. I highly recommend giving it a listen.

Ok, for those of you in the States lucky enough to be close to a place that makes these (and I’m not talking about Taco Bell), all I can say is breakfast burrito after a night of drinking.. no such thing here and I miss them terribly.

When I was on Diego Garcia (which is out in the Indian Ocean) a guy I worked with caught a 109 lb yellowfin tuna.. from hook to table in less than 4 hours with WASABI.. man, that was the best Thanksgiving I’ve ever had..

Since I’m too lazy for a less than accurate Wiki search, what is the difference between sushi and sashimi? I have had sushi at the local Chinese place.
SUSHI is WITH rice
(Example: a piece of Hamachi (raw yellowtail) or Maguro (raw tuna) on top of a mound of rice w/a sheet of seaweed wrapped around it)
SASHIMI is (example) fish WITHOUT the rice
(Example: Few pieces of raw yellowtail or tuna [Hamachi or Maguro], usually NO rice or seaweed)

Actually, sushi refers to just the rice. Rice w/ rice wine vinegar. Sometimes raw fish is put together with sushi, but the basic term of sushi does not automatically mean raw fish.
Sashimi is a separate dish which usually consists of thinly sliced pieces of raw fish.

I hate to admit this, but as an American who is hopelessly fanatic about American college football (go Bucks!) I really don’t understand Australian Football. I have actually tried to understand it, but for some reason, it is just beyond me.
Well, the rules are a lot more straight forward than they are with cricket. It’s just something you pick after watching it a few games, but basically, there aren’t many rules.
