Meh, not funny.
Doesn’t even make sense.
Pah. I voted 5 lincolns.
I live three blocks from the HS Bill Cosby dropped out off… and I, like many middle-class parents &/or grandparents around here (and Cosby, and Obama…) I kinda think those kids running around at night getting into trouble oughta stay in school, act responsibly, and shape up.
Heck, I’d b tempted to print this one and hang it in the local library… if the city weren’t about t’ shut em down for lack of funding…
*harumphs loudly*
*Gets in Blazing Saddles Mood*
“Harumph!!”
*harumphs delacately, after all I am a lady*
Thank you, ladies.
I appreciate the solidarity.
We shall harumph together and stand firm for Tighter Belts and the fight against Crack.
“Where the white women at?”
Blazing Saddles reference FTW!
I lol’d.
I didn’t get a harumph out of that guy!
that’s right niggas
woops…you’re awfully stupid.
Unfortunately most of the people who need to read this didn’t stay in school long enough to learn who is in the picture.
(Black AND White)
I didn’t get a harumph outta that guy.
You watch your ass!
HOWARD JOHNSON IS RIGHT!!
What? That “Things Can Only Get Better”?
That would be Howard Jones.
Mraglle frignschlagrr, rambrumfrumtragger.
Gabby johnson is right. Not only was it genuine frontier gibberish, it said what needed to be said.
Rabbit!
lawl!!
Angi Johnson’s right about Howard Johnson being right!
Don’t sweat it…It’s a cultural thing.
If you were African-American and had grown up where I did and struggled as hard as my wife and I did to keep a teenage son on the straight and narrow, you’d get the reference.
Son, by the way, is now grown up, graduated law school and a former assistant county prosecutor now in private practise.
You go, Mama. Thank you for raising a good kid.
said he and his wife. I think that’s daddy not mama (unless of course they are from Mass. then hey I’m not one to judge.)
Gotta love apefirmative action
Agreed. “Preachy subtle racism” bell go off in anyone else’s head?
It’s hard to call racism since we don’t know the race of the captioner. It could be a black man concerned with how others are acting. Would that still be racism?
True, but if he is black, why would he perpetrate a stereotype? :/
Because for every one person who does their best to put down stereotypes there are two people behind him perpetuating those stereotypes.
This is true for all races.
White people smell like bananas.
Latin people smell like tacos
OMG I LOVE TACOS!!!
LMFAO
That’s preposterous. I don’t even like bananas. Hrmph.
*sniffs* You smell like purty.
A steriotype, yes. But I go to a school FILLED with “ghetto” whites and blacks alike, and yes, they do that.
I agree with the general idea of this poster, but the captioner acts if this is solely a part of African American culture. As the Banana King pointed out, this is a feature of the “ghetto” culture.
Nevertheless, at first glance I loled.
The color of your skin is dark or light depending on the melanin level in your skin. “White” people have low melanin in their skin, due to recessive genes. “Black” people have high melanin in their skin, due to dominant genes.
So honestly, does nationality really matter in stereotypes/racism? We are all one race. The *human* race. Different ranges of color in skin means absolutely nothing.
When we “remember” that we are all the human race, what a wonderful world this will be. I thank God everyday for people like Dr King and Rosa Parks and all the others that made it possible for us “white” people to adopt our daughter. We have 6 birth children and shes 16 now. We got her when she was 9 days old. Shes the joy of our lives. I forget I didnt give birth to her. She’s a wonderful person and has already made such a difference in peoples lives.
Excellent Point. Let’s not forget Bill Cosby’s infamous speech.
I always like what Dave Chapelle said about that.
“Everyone forgot that he was just a N****r from Philly. He had REAL stuff to say, and nobody really liked hearing it.”
No. In California, young men without fashion sense of all races can be seen wearing their pants down around their knees. The Fashion Don’t knows no bounds.
The idiots don’t know that the low pants started in California prison to signify “availabilty’ to be punked.
The lower the pants, the more you “bitched.” I know what I’m talking about, I’m a father of a prison guard.
Eurgh. I wonder how many of them would still do it if they knew that DX
All. Because they’re stupid.
Yeah, that’s right, I still remember the old guard in California prison wearing no pants at all!
Now you’re just perpetuating the stereotype of all blacks being in prison.
Choke yourself! Not with your hand, with my hand!
Didn’t tattooing also start in prisons for example? I understand that’s why the elderly still frown upon it, but younger generations – they know about it but it has a different meaning now, don’t you think? Things change
Snopes says: False
http://www.snopes.com/risque/homosex/sagging.asp
I know… it’s kinda disturbing…
Because there’s no such thing as a black racist. Of course.
My “Not-funny-might-cause-a-sh!tstorm” bell went off. Although… is there a funny caption to put on this picture? I can’t think of any that are giggle-worthy. :\
Not much about Dr. King’s life/death seems as though it would lend itself to much in the way of humor, but I’m game to see what folks come up with.
I’ll try to suspender my disbelief . . .
Belt it won’t be easy.
It’ll be difficult, overalls.
Even though really, it should be a snap.
Zipper up, not all of us have the pun-making jeans.
Oh it’s a cinch.
Can we pocket this pun-run yet?
*braces self for endless, loopy punrun*
All this pun-running is sure is tiring! *pants*
A-hem, cuff-cuff, and it’s hard on the vocal cords.
Oh buttons… I might be out of puns.
Good, then at least your puns won’t be hanging out of your jeans. What do you you mean, cut you some slacks?
Let’s not wasteband width on this any more!
Allright shortie, pull up your boxers and make it brief!
You think it will fly?
Fly? I doubt it. Maybe hobble along on crotches . . .
Maybe we should just zip it.
But this conversation is such a shoe-in!
Wow, I am absolutely riveted to this pun-run. The flow is definitely seamless. Had me in stitches.
Sweet. that’s what I’m looking for – a ’snap’ rating.
Not all political humor deserves an lol and a kitten.
Some of it’s just more of an ironic/iconic chuckle (or grimace).
Wow, there’s different people here and yet, it’s a 1 to 1 copy of the Failblog’s comment pages. Heeeeelp, I’m surrounded by witty clones!
Does that make me Bondfan? I’m the TROGDOR/Troll burninator of this site.
Please?
Ahaaa! You are bondfan, with a different name and avatar so people think there’s two people posting the same comments!
doh!
Homer? Mr. Burns is going to fire you again if he catches you on PK…
ba-da ching! *sigh* my drumming skills aren’t what they used to be.
Two drums and a cymbal fell off a cliff.
Ba-dum, CHING!
Yes. THis LOL is only acceptable if the poster could say “for ME to go around with my pants around my knees”.
..and even that’s a little iffy.
If I recall correctly, King wanted people to be judged by their actions, not by externals.
By externals he meant not being judged by the color of their skin. He didn’t mean you should be respected even when dressed like a circus clown.
TOOOOO SOOOOOON!!!!111elebenty!!12
When black people have systematically oppressed white people for geenrations, come find me.
How convenient.
Ask Moses about that… it’s much more likely that your ancestors owned my ancestors. And that’s what they are – ANCESTORS. (from some form of ANCIENT, meaning a long time ago)
When I actually oppress somebody, I’ll let you know. I’m not going to accept guilt for something my ancestors did. I don’t feel shame because I was born, sorry.
Amen to that, and props to the LOL-maker.
My family fought for the north in the civil war. Do I get reparations for helping free them. even though it wasn’t me? (and yes I know the civil war was about keeping the states whole and the emancipation proclamation was pretty much just a side effect. just trying to prove a point that it’s in the past and not all whites were slave owners, or should an entire race be held accountable for the failures of some.)
And how about those of us who are “white” (never mind I’m not even related very closely to people west of the Oder-Neisse) but whose families didn’t arrive in America (or any other country directly involved in the slave trade) until fifty years after the Civil War was over?
How about “when black people have systematically oppressed black people from the tribe next door for generations”, is that close enough?
Cop out
Since black people sold said oppressed black people in the first place, you still fail.
How bout you don’t generalize. You’re part of the f*cking problem.
They’re not saying “John Doe, pull your pants up!”, they’re saying “Hey black people, pull your pants up!’
Oh loosen up FFS
Oh get used to it FFS.
Are they implying that all blacks walk around with their pants around their knees?
Oh well. MLK would probably disappointed with us for various reasons anyway- one of them, probably, the way I’ve seen people acting towards Mexican people just for their nation of origin…
i didn’t see it as implying that all do, just that some do, and that few effects the many. only as strong as the weakest link kinda thing, but i can also see how easily it can be generalized to all so…yeah all in all not that good.
I think the statement is directed specifically at those who do walk around with their pants around their knees.
“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”
I think the statement impinges on their character more than their color.
This is a very odd statement: “the way I’ve seen people acting towards Mexican people just for their nation of origin…” I don’t think Americans have a problem with Mexicans. What we do have a problem with is illegal immigrants, no matter what nationality. It just so happens that they’re the majority of that category. If someone wants to become an American citizen, that’s fine, but do it the right way. Embrace the American ways, history, and, yes, learn English. Even though we don’t have a document stating that English is our national language, when 99% of the people speak it, it’s pretty much the national language. Also, if you’re an American, don’t fly your old country’s flag. That’s not being an American. That’s trying to be some other nationality living off of the American people. If you’re so proud of that country, go back to it. Otherwise, be proud of this country if you want to come here.
So you advocate assimilation rather than integration?
To a point, yes. I know that people will always keep a part of their old country, and that’s fine. However, if you’re an American, you should not be flying your old country’s flag. Show some pride. You are no longer of that nationality. I know that if you came here legally, you went through a lot. There must have been a reason. If you came here illegally, you probably went through a lot more. However, the first thing you did was break the law. I’m sorry, but that’s not right. You are not welcome if you do not respect our laws…
Right. Illegal immigraition is a different animal than immigration, I think. But why would flying your old country’s flag be wrong – and in what way is that not showing pride?
What do you mean, you think. There’s a huge difference between coming here legally and breaking our laws. I don’t even know why that’s up for debate.
Because you do not belong to that country anymore. You are an American. No longer German, Austrian, Mexican, etc. If you are an American, and proud to be an American, you should fly the flag if you’re going to fly one. How is it showing pride to be an American by flying another nation’s flag?
“What do you mean, you think.”
I used the “I think” of the “in my opinion”-type.
“There’s a huge difference between coming here legally and breaking our laws. I don’t even know why that’s up for debate.”
I only mentioned it because you talked about it so much in your post that I responded to – just to note that I had read it, but that it felt irrelevant for the assimilation/integration topic.
Thanks for answering my question. I guess I am unable to understand how your past can no longer be a part of you whether you are an American or not, nor why pride, or what sort of pride, should restrict you to only one flag. It is nowhere within my ability to grasp that reasoning, I suspect. Sorry to have wasted your time on that topic. :p
Oh, I changed my mind – I did have another thought/question/reaction to what you’ve written after all!
“How is it showing pride to be an American by flying another nation’s flag?”
Couldn’t it be a way of both showing pride of “your old country” while also displaying a pride or joy and appreciation for living in a country where it’s actually legal to use another flag than that of the nation?
The aspects that I feel pride in and really appreciate of my country is that sort of freedom – that we can function and thrive no matter what flags are on the poles of the lawns across the nation.
I should add that I believe less and less in the concept of nation states with every year that passes, so that “pride” is a bit more complicated than that. ;p
Oh please! Spare me your nationalistic crap.
As the saying goes: “You can take an X out of Y, but you can’t take Y out of an X.” Being naturalized doesn’t mean you suddenly don’t have a heritage anymore.
I guess my thinking is just wrong. I mean, if I hated America so much that I moved to France, I don’t think I’d be flying the American flag. If I left America because I was being persecuted or held back for whatever reason and I could move to another country and be welcomed and make something of my life, I would respect that country and be proud of it. I just don’t think I’d try to change it to be more like the country I left. And, I would try to actually fit in and be a part of that country, not try to remind everyone that I’m not really one of them.
I love how everyone wants to be treated the same and you leftists like to tell us that we shouldn’t see people for anything but their character, but you’re the first to throw ethnicity in our faces. What I’m getting at is that if you want to be an American, then great, learn our laws, our language, etc., and be an American. Don’t come here, tell us you just want to fit in, and then do everything you can to prove that you’re not one of us.
“I guess my thinking is just wrong. I mean, if I hated America so much that I moved to France, I don’t think I’d be flying the American flag.”
Ahem. My grandfather didn’t leave Latvia because he hated it, he left because the Soviets were about to either shoot him or load him on a cattle car to Siberia, for the crime of being a Boy Scout leader.
Deal with it.
Yes, the oppression people face that leads them to America is not always because of a failing of the nation itself. However, I agree with gniknihtdrawkcab’s overall sentiments. Everyone should probably assimilate if they freely move here, and by that, I pretty much mean learn English so that you will have a voice.
The Native Americans should have been allowed to integrate, however…
to gniknihtdrawkcab – So to think of it, it most likely REALLY pisses you off seeing other countries flags around America? That just makes you a douche, plain and simple
So the fact that someone is now an American means they can no longer have a past or a love for their country of origin? My grandmother happily came to this country and was full of pride in being an American, but she still proudly represented her South Korean heritage and had a Korean flag which she flew. Lower than the American flag, of course, but she still flew it.
America is supposed to be a melting pot. A place where people of other cultures come and can not only be free, but still maintain their identity.
By the way, I’m a Texan – should we not be able to fly our flag there? We were, after all, our own country once.
I’m sorry but becoming American doesn’t mean you should try to ‘wipe out’ your roots, which is how that’s coming out. Why not respect who you are, where you came from and what you went through to come to the States? What makes our country so great that we shouldn’t wave flags of our old country in respect to them? And what about all those people trying to escape oppression or starvation or whatnot? Wouldn’t you break the law to find yourself – or your kids – something to eat?
This country was founded on the idea that we could take anything we wanted and make it ours. I don’t think we should continue that sense of ignorance by saying it’s ‘a lack of pride’ to not wave the US flag. A lot of immigrants who appreciate being here DO wave the flag, but there’s no way in hell they don’t care about who they are, which can be partially defined by where they’re from, and to show pride they’ll wave that flag. The transition from one place to another isn’t that absolute.
Mel??? DAD??!!!
I agree with you entirely.
I’ll second that… when my ancestors came to this
country it was because they wanted to be American
If you’re so proud to be mexican, go back to mexico
I’m sure you won’t last long.
When and where did your ancestors immigrate from, exactly?
Because it’s not like we see the remnants of the European culture in Boston, etc. or anything. Yeah, other cultures are UNACCEPTABLE, right?
All Americans living in any area that once was mostly inhabited by any form of tribe speak their lanugage, right?
I think(and someone please correct me if I’m wrong here) that he was talking about some people who just assume that because someone is Hispanic or just looks Hispanic that they are in this country illegally. I have seen people taunting Mexicans telling them to “go back where they can from” or that they “didn’t need they kind here.” It’s unfortunate we still have people who act this way and it’s quite despicable for someone to assume that just because you look a certain way, you aren’t a legal citizen.
That’s exactly what I meant, Squiggly. If the intent behind my words was a nail, you just punched me in the face. Or maybe you punched me in the brain.
Oh I’m happy I understood what you were saying properly. Sometimes I may misread or misunderstand and I do hope to be corrected if that should happen.
Er, sorry about the brain punch?
Gniknihtdrawkcab, I was referring to the way I’ve heard people in my town talk about or interact with people who appear to be “Mexican”, or have a Central American accent.
I knew a girl last year who was a real b*tch and hardly did her work, but we were friends, and I read her paper that said we needed to stop all Mexican immigrants because she (and apparently, a lot of the people she knew) believed they were dirty, violent people who weren’t as good as the people already in the country. It’s funny, because she’s the violent drug addict…. Project much?
Anyway- I don’t know why some of the people I’ve met feel compelled to treat Mexicans like they’re “less” than they are- don’t they realize it’s just another form of discrimination?
But if they don’t make themselves out to be better for arbitrary reasons like their skin color or country of origin then they would have to actually accomplish something meaningful in order to gain power and respect. That is far too much work, discrimination is easier
Woah . . . moron.
Has anyone else seen that episode of The Boondocks where MLK woke up from a coma to see what society has become. This made me think of that, and I wanted to discuss.
I’ve seen that episode but all I remember about it is the part with the McRib…
Brilliant. I loved when the president of BET apologized to the black community.
The worst part is that it felt so realistic. One can totally see that happening in an alternate reality. Watching it I genuinely felt bad for MLK knowing that he struggled so hard just for so many to take advantage of what he worked for.
That’s what good comedy should do… point a finger at what’s going on currently, get you to laugh, then think… hey, wait a minute… is that supposed to be FUNNY or TRUE, or BOTH!!! One of the many reasons I loved George Carlin…
That eposode is titled “Return of the King”.
That was friggin’ INTENSE!
I lol’d!
Actually, he did do all that for blacks to wear pants below their asses. It’s called freedom of expression. It’s also stupid and their are expressing their idiocy, but it’s allowable.
Murray?!? Are you going to call the roll, for this band meeting?
Item number one: pants, height. This is really important guys!
Murray…CHECK! Bret and Jemaine…CHECK!
this is the truest, most honest news pic Ive seen lately. I think Dr. king would be b****slapping Kanye, Snoop and the Williams sisters if he was alive today. His achievments and meaning were taken WAAAYY out of context by the ilk of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton(add them to the b****slap list.) No racism here. just honest, God-given truth.
Um, forgive me if I have this wrong but I thought Dr. King was big on non-violence, so would he really be “b****slapping” anyone?
Agreed, Squiggly. Just can’t see Dr. King raising the pimp hand.
He’d probably say something about whether it’s appropriate to walk around showing society your drawers (and more), but I can’t see him giving up on non-violence over it…
He would have verbally b****slapped them! Those are the worst kind…
Although, those for whom he would have choice words are, for the most part, not intelligent enough to understand anything he would have had to say.
Ever see the MLK episode of the Boondocks TV show? That Dr. King managed to b****slap a whole church without raising a finger.
Never saw it… now my curiosity is piqued.
I think most of it’s on youtube. If you search King and Boondocks you should run across the speech at least.
“And no, I’m not going to get there with you… I’m going to Canada”… THAT’s funny.
It’s a genius episode. It’s about how no one would really resonate with Dr. King if he was alive today. It’s based in a fictional alternate universe where Dr. King was in a coma instead of dead, and he wakes from his coma to find the world as it is today, with people quoting him but no one really embracing the things he stood for. For instance, he says that we shouldn’t retaliate after 9/11 (which is arguably something he would have said). The non-violence approach just pisses everyone off and he ends up an outcast from both the black and white communities.
I like Aaron McGruder.
I’m going to Canada.
I’m going to Disneyland!
I’m going to work
*has a sad*
*hugs Capt*
I’m going crazy!!!!
been there done that, got the t-shirt, ball hat and keychain. Can someone help me with my luggage?
I’m going to die.
I’m going to school
(get me an edumacation)
I have to go to work and school.
*has a double sad*
I’m already there!
I’m on a chair.
I’m on a boat!
If he were unhappy with Kanye for anything, it would be his behavior last night at the VMA’s, not fasion.
I think he’d be more upset about Kanye playing the race card after Katrina just to promote his sh!tty album.
Kanye West has made a career out of being a self-important douche.
And WHAT is up with the shutter shades?! Are they sunglasses or not?! I know they say eyes are the windows to the soul but slapping blinds over them is taking the metaphor too far!
I really think the captioner meant for it to fall under the umbrella of “acting stupid.”
or Kanye saying he would be the center of a present day bible.
Wow, what a lame caption.
no, it’s not lame. It’s the friggin truth.
Why does everyone cry racism when a constructive criticism is made?
The image doesn’t say all african americans behave in this manner. It is simply a criticism of those who don’t appreciate the sacrifice and struggle that was require to provide the opportunities that many are squandering today. Typically those who wear their pants around their knees are not taking advantage of the opportunities available to them.
I haven’t cried racism, but I do think that if Dr. King were alive today, he would have bigger things to worry about than fashion. There might be some kind of correlation between taking advantage of opportunities and how you wear your pants, but I think it might be a difficult one to prove.
I don’t really think it’s just fashion; fashion can be very political and I think the lol maker is suggesting that the politics of this particular fashion is whack.
I didn’t know that about prison wear. Interesting bit of information that I will store and use when I can.
RACISM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
TOOOOOOOOO SOOOOOOOOOOOOON!!!!11!!ELEBENTY!!
nope.
I love it when people take me seriously, and I’m not being serious. *pats Tyrone on head*
to juan – EXCUSE ME!!!How on earth can you say that?? I’m afraid you’re not even realising that your words are spelling r-a-c-i-s-m! You’re saying that blacks aren’t appreciating the opportunities and freedom they have been given? But don’t ALL races deserve the equal amount of freedom and opportunities? How on earth can you sit there and say like the big Slavemaster himself that “You, n*gger, have not appreciated the freedom I gave you, so I shall enslave you again”
Like there aren’t as many whites acting and dressing ghetto as blacks? But you don’t say to white people that they should appreciate their freedom because they’ve always had it! Damn…I hope you get my point
Actually, it is exactly what he led a civil rights revolution and got assassinated for. Freedom is exactly what he wanted.
He wanted equality. I think he would be ashamed of how some people act with the freedom he worked hard to get.
That doesn’t mean he still wouldn’t be pissed to see that hard-won freedom squandered on stupidity.
Imagine if it were a picture of, say, Michael Murphy (a Navy SEAL awarded the Medal of Honor in Afghanistan) with a caption like “I didn’t die in Asadabad so you could wear skinny jeans”. Would you make the same argument?
I, for one, will not be wearing skinny jeans anymore.
um…
but he did fight for you to wear skinny jeans. or a headcover. or whatever.
Are you free to be stupid? Yes.
Should you take pride in your stupidity by dropping trow down to your knees so’s you have to hold ‘em up? um….. IMHO I wouldn’t recommend it.
Skinny jeans are cute, honey. Wear ‘em if you want to.
Seriously, you don’t want to see me in skinny jeans.. ever.
*flip flip flip* I already have a picture, Eds… *giggle*
Hey! Lawn privileges doesn’t mean you cna go through my drawers! Oh wait, why am I complaining..
I thought you liked me going through your drawers.. Eds.. *wicked grin*
but skinny jeans are to Micheal Murphy what saggy jeans are to MLK.
How is looking like a douchebag hipster any better than looking like a wannabe suburban thug? Both project an air of unintelligence and general uselesness.
Well… Because it’s COOL Dhoti. Duh. No really, I don’t know. I just wear what fits myself. Fashion be damned.
Point taken…it’s just shorter to type “skinny jeans” than “douchey mens hat from Urban Outfitters” or something.
In both cases, though, it’s not that the clothing is offensive in and of itself, it’s that it represents a deliberately useless counterculture. (In the case of black culture, a violent and self-destructive one.)
Dude. Eminem?
Don’t mind if I do. *noms M&Ms* Mmmmm I love these.
He wishes. Though I suppose he might have been responsible for a few fights at suburban Pizza Huts.
Ew. I hate those hats. A pox on Justin Timberlake for making that fad popular.
It was only a chicken pox. Try harder next time.
Not to have an actually civil, borderline friendly, discourse with you, Dhoti, but “douchey mens hat from Urban Outfitters” sums it up nicely. Though, I’m not sure what you mean when you say “deliberately useless counterculture”. Could you explain?
Change “black culture” to “mass market black culture”…I hit “Add” too early.
It’s the same argument I used to hear from my father who fought in WW2… I can’t believe we paid such a high price just so you can go to the mall dressed like THAT!!
Many Christians make similar arguments about what Jesus would think about how his words have gotten twisted… not trying to start a religion argument… just sayin’…
you old
Only 40! My Dad was apparently a late-bloomer and had us all late in life… robbed the cradle and married himself a little hippie-girl in ‘68… not too long after, I showed up!!
40? I can’t remember 40.. whippersnapper..
When Eddie was 40, he was bouncing Jesus on his knee telling him about the good ol’ days.
And yelling at him to stay off the lawn.
tee hee… I’m in my late 30’s w/ sons in Philly schools. (They don’t wear muffins. Their choice. I parent well.)
Don’t tell the other pundits, though – I’m enjoying this ‘cranky old-fart’ persona. Shhh… jus’ our little secret, okay?
I’m sorry, I have no idea what a “muffin” is. I’m picturing kids running around.. Wearing actual muffins.
Main course and dessert all in one!
Sounds delicious.
The muffin children… sounds like the basis of a horror movie.
Do you know the muffin man?
The muffin man?
The Muffin Man!!!!
He lives on Drury Lane, ya know..
I know what muffin tops are. Jeans that are low cut and provide the opportunity for extra belly fat to hang over the top to make it look like a muffin. But that’s girls…… Dunno what muffin refers to for a boy.
Well, I knew that about the muffin tops.. Sadly they happen even whe you don’t have those really low cut jeans.. But I still don’t know about this “muffin” thing..
Trying to Urban Dictionary just left me more confused than I was…
Me, either. But now I need a snack.
Whipper Snapper, Why-I-Oughta…
If Jesus were here, he’d… probably be wearing sandals and a dress.
IT’S NOT A DRESS!!! IT’S A …. ROBE!! Yeah that’s it.
White people arn’t the only ones who wear skinny jeans, look up the new boyz. talk about douchbags
“Um, Actually”
This made me think of a local news story today:
http://www.the-leader.com/news/x2028879747/Man-arrested-after-Watkins-Glen-standoff
Pretty much nails home the point of this one.
damn the NY state police go all out huh? Cop uniforms aren’t good enough for them?
And get off my lawn! Damn kids these days…
*mutter*
*laughs quietly since she’s in a library*
daaaaannnnggg POWN’D!
Confession prayer, “Forgive me Lord for I have sinned ( yes, I know I really need to knock it off) I used to sneak up and pants the guys who did that at my middle school. just the guys who were jerks to me. It wasn’t long before they got the hint and started pulling them up and using a belt. I’m willing to bet the principal appreciated since I never got caught and his students were following the dress code. I know it isn’t very lady like, but am I forgiven?”
Forgiven? You are my HERO. I’ve always wanted to do that to guys (regardless of race!) who wear the giant rodeo-clown pants belted below their equator.
The saggy pants thing is one of the few times in my school career that I was thankful for the strict dresscode my district enforced. Anyone with even slightly baggy pants was sent to the office by a teacher where they were asked to wear a belt. If they did not have one with them, they were given a piece of rope to use as a belt.
You know what? Someone get me a flamethrower, that soap box is going to die today.
AMEN! My only criticism is that his name and title was Doctor Martin Luther King, Junior.
HUH?!
Oh… I get it… nevermind…
? This is off to a slow start compared to some other captions lately. :p
Danbala’s right this one seems fairly tame when you’ve seen some of the other picture’s trollnests.
I wonder how many of those goofballs would continue doing it if they knew that the fad started in prisons as a way for other inmates to know they were “taken”.
They wouldn’t care, in the same way that you didn’t care that your comment was already posted further up (but with more clarification.) I’m not nitpicking, just sayin’
And get off Ed’s lawn!
Thanks Ivan.. lawn privileges granted. There’s beer in the cooler.
Erm…how about a Seagrams Ice?
how about tequila with beer chasers? That I can do..
Tequila! Pass that this way Eds my good man!
I’ll have a Navy Rum and coke if someone else is buying
*buys drink for newcomer* Welcome! Rules are as follows:
1. Do not talk about Fight Club.
No wait that was for something else.
No, it’s ok.. it applies here as well. But shhhh on the Floydism, we don’t want people to think we have a cult going on or anything.
wait, did you hear that? I heard a voice saying, “More tequila!” Tell me you heard it too!
A lot of things start in strange and terrible places. that doesn’t stop people from thinking they are cool. i’m guessing their reaction would be “Psh, whatever” because while it meant one thing in one place, it is accepted as another thing where they are.
Honey – now THAT’s an interesting point.
I know a few teachers in the area & I might have to recommend they drop this interesting information to some of the kids swaggering into their razor-wired school yards.
Of course, you never know. They may just be exhibiting their career goals… ?
What’s funny to me is that around here it’s the harmless kids who wear their pants the lowest. It’s just fashion.
The young men I worry about most are the spotters/dealers who look like they could take me out, jump a fence and disappear… They don’t wear no muffins, chains, or anything you could point out in a line-up.
*harumphs, shivers & considers reconnecting w/ neighborhood watch*
So you think it’s stupid and ugly yet you help dispel the rumor started to end it?
and yeah I didn’t know it was fake until I checked snopes. oh well.
this is good
The guy fought so that people will be respected and treated equally, no matter what they look like.
And “no matter what they look like” includes “no matter where they wear their trousers, even if they wear them on their head.”
Shame on you. You’re ignorant, superficial and self-righteous.
This was basiclly my first thought.
My second was, I’ve seen this caption before. Might’ve been a different leader, but same caption basically.
I guess that’s why MLK always looked “street” when he spoke to crowds right?
He did *not* fight for people to dress like fools.
No he got terrorist groups such as The Black Panthers to fight for him, in much the same way as Nelson Mandella hid behind the cloak of “Oooh. Nothing to do with me. I’m the Political Wing.” Sorry a Terrorist is a Terrorist. If you support Terrorism then you are as bad as the Terrorists.
So you’re admitting that the US people (not the government, just the people) sponsored terrorism in Northern Ireland?
The Irish Americans definately did. The rest of the Americans didn’t give a damn and so supported Terrorism by default.
varenoea – AGREED!!! The first one here I can agree with..
D’oh. I actually read that as a comment on the ‘anti-racist’ buzzword of ‘put your pants on’ that’s used to people who persistently disagree with them?
It’s okay, Angela. We all do it sometimes.
Racist stereotypes much?
Thank goodness you care more than we do.
wow. this one hits the stupid meter… reminds me of the one with lil wayne on roflrazzi with pretty much the same caption… for some reason certain people seem to think that mlk only stood for freedom as long as you mimicked white culture…
Agreed! And where the hell have you been? Anyway, good to see you back!
good to see you’re still on here too buddy! i’ve just been working too much to post like i used to… i still stop by every now and then…
civil rights has nothing to do with how people wear their clothes
It doesn’t? There are many countries which lack many civil rights, inclusing choosing what clothes to wear. (And most countries stick to having rules saying you must wear some clothes in public.)
tell that to the women of Saudi Arabia.
I have a dream… that one day my children will not be judged by the color of their skin… but by how homeless they look.
actually, low-riding pants has nothing to do with race. it originated in jail, supposedly as a sign of being someone´s bitch. i´ll bet you anything the “gangsta” rapers of today would think twice if they heard about that.
nope.
sagging and loose clothing has nothing to do with being a prison bitch, it had to do with the fact that they don’t allow belts in jail and baggy clothing makes things easier to conceal…
So who are white kids who act like thugs letting down?
Umm, Dr. King as well. His message was for everyone.
amen!
I’d rather die on my feet, than wear pant around my knees?
err…pants pants pants
– adapted from James Brown song
I would say that is exactly what he did. The Civil Rights movement was more than just and oppressed group trying to have the opportunity in the “white man’s” world. It was a struggle to gain acknowledgment that all people of all skin colors were to be respected as brothers and sisters. A movement to promote our differences and our similarities. In a way, he fought and died so that anyone could wear their pants anyhow they wanted or not at all, and it be ok because you were a person, and whatever fashion or look you choose shouldn’t cause any judgment on you. Just because our society found other ways to judge minority cultures, and they found new ways to set themselves aside and find new cultures and ways of expressing themselves, doesn’t make the struggle in vain. It just means the struggle continues. One must always try to love more, judge less, and try to understand.
Besides…. who the hell though a tie was a good idea in the first place? Or having to wear long sleeve button-ups? Bring me my Khaki shorts and a T-Shirt any day. And whats with all the flip flop wearers? If you ever had to run you would be screwed via flat tire? And does -every-one have to have one of those rubber bands connected to their sunglasses? You can just take them off?
I got my swim trunks, and my flippy floppies..
I’m ridin’ on a dolphin, doin’ flips n sh*t. That dolphin’s splashin’, getting erryboby all wet! But this ain’t Sea World, its as real as it gets!
MLK fought for people to judge on character.
Character dictates how you dress yourself in the morning, and if you can’t even put on a pair of pants you can still be judged. It may not be perfect, but it isn’t automatically based on race. It’s not like white people are the ONLY group that thinks a suit looks nice. Every time I go to Men’s Warehouse there are more black men, and they rock those suits better than I do.
My point it what makes you fashion police? Do you go around calling every girl in short shorts a whore? Because that’s probably what everyone from the 50’s and early 60s would think. You don’t judge, because its acceptable fashion now. If someone wants to wer their pants hanging low then by all means do it. Its not like you are seeing anything other than their boxers anyway. So just pretend they are wearing swimming attire. All those two piece female bathing suits certainly seem like underwear to me, and I don’t hear any complaints.
But the matter of the choice to dress that certain way still stands. If one chooses to dress like a slob, their character dictated that it was acceptable for them to dress like a slob. Whether they were motivated by a need to fit in or wanting to broadcast an image of tough, thug douchebag is irrelevant. They made a conscious decision to do so, and that decision has a consequence. The “don’t judge a book by it’s cover” routine doesn’t apply to matters of choice, because that is the only thing anyone should ever be judged by. That was what MLK fought for.
There is a time and a place for certain clothing. You don’t hear any complaints about two piece bathing suits at the pool or on a beach, but I guarantee you if a girl tried to wear the same thing to a grocery store or a similar place, there’d be issues.
‘It’s not like you are seeing anything other than their boxers anyway.’ Societal norms dictate that it is improper to sees a person’s undergarments in public. Hence the reason girls don’t go walking around in bra and underwear and nothing else. And why those who go around with underwear you can see are treated the way they are.
There are certain rules of decency to follow when in a public place.
indeed, these people are probably rolling over in their graves seeing what their dreams became
Try being short so your eye level to the idiots unders.
For the record he fought for equal rights for all men, woman and children. Of all colors, so this isn’t racist at all.
Ok, Kelly. I mean Marget. I mean… Sock.
B-B-Busted
“For the record he fought for equal rights for all men, woman and children.”
Hi, Sock.
So, I think there might be more than one woman…. You see, there’s a woman right above you who you might want to talk to…
Stick with Kelly, it’s easier for you to spell.
So true. I’d like to see some black guys be responsible now and again. Kinda impossible though….
I don’t usually use the term “retarded,” but in reference to this I think it more than applies. First of all, Dr. King fought and died for equal rights, and he was too busy doing so to worry about anyone’s PANTS.
Second, what on earth do pants have to do with responsibility? If you don’t see black men being responsible, it’s because you’re not looking–not because they don’t exist, and certianly not because some people (of all ethnic backgrounds) occasionally wear loose trousers.
But now, unfortunately, I am just hearing all of Dr King’s speeches with the words “PANTS” randomly inserted in to them.
“I have a dream – about your pants”
“Free at last! Thank god almighty, the pants are free at last!”
Somehow I don’t think he would have convinced quite as many people….
I sincerely hope this was sarcasm…
I know. Not a single black guy in America has a responsible job. It’s not like there’s one running the country or anything……
Oh, you noticed that too? *snicker*
-
Sorry, that was me trying to be funny..
He also didn’t do all that for you to run on stage and steal cute girls’ microphones to hijack their acceptance speeches. FOR SHAME, KANYE, FOR SHAME.
I think that is one of the things he fought for: so that everybody should be able to express themselves the way they see fitted.
So, the members of the KKK are just expressing themselves in the way they see fit – do they fall under this category?
well that’s just idiotic.
Why? It seems extreme but it is a really good point.
No, it isn’t, as the KKK hurt others. Whereas pants-saggers and just look silly.
Minus that ‘and’.
I’ve had my car broken into by a ‘pants-sagger’, I’ve also had ‘pants-saggers’ steal from my place of business.
Sure, it’s not anywhere near the scale of pain and hurt that the Klan have inflicted, but it was still hurt.
Anyway, Bubulina’s post was about how Dr. King fought “so that everybody should be able to express themselves the way they see fitted.” Stupid people don’t apply? Ignorant morons aren’t allowed to express themselves?
Actually, Dr. King was all about people having integrity, being judged not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. If he saw these little cretins (black and white), I think he’d knock them upside the head. The way one dresses is a choice in America, and choices reflect character. He’d be ashamed of these losers for not having integrity, not applauding them for “expressing themselves.”
I believe he’d do the same for the girls who feel the need to wear super skimpy clothing.
Seriously, working in retail, there have been so many people I’ve seen that made me exclaim to fellow associates, “Who let them leave the house looking like that?!”
the point is simple…..PULL UP YOUR DAMN PANTS! IT LOOKS LIKE HELL! really??? It has nothing to do with race…it has EVERYTHING to do with STOP LOOKING LIKE AN IDIOT THAT DOESNT KNOW HOW TO BUY PANTS THAT FIT AROUND YOUR WAIST!!! not to mention that it requires one hand to keep pulling them up. How are you supposed to complete a two-hand required activity? It just looks dumb. If you think wearing your pants around your ankles is “fashion” and that you are some how “saying something” GROW UP!
yea, I have yet to figure out why people think they look cool doing it.
Actually he kinda did.
Everything he did was so that people would all have the EQUAL opportunity to live their lives as they saw fit. To be ALLOWED to just be who they are.
I am not defending the style. Its quite ridiculous.
But so is this caption.
seems to me this is a great example of what he stood for: to give people of colour the right to do what they wanted (within the law) without being harrassed for it.
Right. Perhaps even *especially* if it pisses off the establishment.
He also didn’t lead a major civil rights struggle and get assassinated for you to generalize all black people as having sagging pants…
I have to reference my young adult daughter here: she always said that this was a great trend for guys because it told her right up front which ones were to big of a project to even start on. BTW, she said the same of ball caps, visors, etc. worn in ways for which they were not intended.
its not funny, but its true!
SO TRUE AND SO RIGHT!
In before white people fawning — oh, dammit, too late.
Goddamn white people.
amen
Apparently, he did it so Kanye West could interrupt a white girl accepting an award and not physically get pulled off the stage.
hahaha love it!
…or did he?
It sounds as if there should have been a punchline after that.
I don’t care what color you are – Black, White, Red, Yellow, brown… potato potahto – Pull your god damn pants up!
That’s not what he was saying last night..
That wasn’t really funny, and kind of offensive. I don’t think that a couple kids in baggy pants would really bother Dr. King.
Genius! My scientific research leads me to believe that the lower the trousers the dumber the wearer.
racism… the game
omg its true but wow are you people rasict someone spoke the truth and then you shot him down, its not right in anyway, we should cherish the life we have and forget what the person yelled at us yesterday, man we all need to grow up and be fine with the world and happy with are neigbors.
It’s AWESOME! All you ghetto thugs!
im not going to read the other comments. i only have one thing to say. amen.
@kenny fox – 100% agree
I’m not going to read anything else. I agree completely.
I was at the mall last night with a friend who just happens to be black and all these kids who just happened to be black were in the department store acting loud and stupid. When we left, I was driving towards the mall exit and there were police cars and mall security trying to break up a fight that those same kids had gotten into. They were making fools of themselves, drawing a crowd… they probably thought little of the fact that the cops had to be called in. I remembered seeing this picture and had to come home and look it up. I think Dr. King would be disgusted to see this kind of behavior. My friend and I then went across the street to Target and saw a white guy getting arrested, supposedly for shoplifting. Stupid knows no race I guess.
pants on the ground, pants on the ground
lookin’ like a fool with your pants on the ground
