Actually, some of the mos beautiful women I’ve ever seen were Arab and Afghani women-as I’m female and lived in the Mideast, I got to see under the shrouds.
BTW-the most beautiful woman I know is my daughter-and she’s half-Palestinian.

Oddly enough, makeup, high heels and nail polish all originated in the Middle East. Henna is an extremely ancient decoration traditionally used at weddings. Female adornment of any description is NOT forbidden. In point of fact, Victoria’s Secret and such are very popular all over the Muslim world.
What is forbidden is revealing your charms to men other than your husband. And, oddly enough, th Koran says nothing about having to wear robes and/or veils.

I lived in the Mideast-sarcasm and irony are survival mechanisms there.
I’ve also had to live in post-09/11 America with my children. And I’ve seen that “ugly Arab women” canard way too many times.

I was going to stay out of this, but I have seen beautiful and dog-ugly examples of both sexes in most or all nationalities and ethnic groups, so I think you’re being a touch over-sensitive here.
Yep. Most people seem to think that the nationality they most closely identify with is the prettiest and the smartest and just the all round bestest. However, many of those people are also capable of identifying a joke. Like calling someone whose face is not shown “blinking ugly” is quite clearly a discernable joke.
Though one has to admit that we Western people would only clothe our garbage in that way (link included)…

Which kind of misses the point, since most of the Muslim women don’t want help anyway. Instead, they defend Islam rather aggressively. It’s the young women who grow up in Germany who are critical towards Islam – and like many daredevil people who offend Islam they get “honor killed” quite regularly and openly for that…

I’m German and I always thought the most beautiful women were from India myself.
While I could never get myself to wrap my brain around the burka thing–sometimes it does seem to make a woman beautiful. If you see stunning eyes over fabric covering most of the face it adds to mystery. Certainly for photographic beauty.
A woman as property however just stinks all the way around. A woman should be able to CHOSE to dress like this.
That’s been my arguement. I don’t love that so many women wear the burqa, but it’s not my place to say it’s “wrong” to wear. It should be a choice, without repercussions from the State or Family or who-have-you.
Besides, many women who wear this are tragically Vitamin D deficient, which is terrible for their health. To wit: if Allah wanted you to cover every square in ch of skin, why would He have made your health dependent on skin being exposed to the sun?
Slight segue: my favorite view on feminism is the one that goes “I chose to be barefoot in the kitchen!”

Well, since running around masked is forbidden in certain places and occasions, it *is* wrong to wear sometimes. And since you can even carry a ready shotgun under it without looking suspicious, there have already been several robberies where the robbers were wearing burqas. Don’t get me wrong, I think ninjas look awesome! But when it massively helps to cloud crimes, the individual freedom shouldn’t be given more importance than the safety of other people.
