Meh. Not motivational at all. Or funneh. 2/5

  2. Igloo McCoy says:

You’d better call Harry Potter because this platform’s heavyhandedness is a 10.

You know, instead of 9 and 3/4. Okay so it was bad. But seriously, three soapbox captions in a row?!

  3. morecowbell says:

they’re white. better review the test.

  4. Mullanaphy says:

Those people look photoshopped, or at least cardboard cut outs. I claim hax!

  5. Cowpie says:

    aaaah, who let Barney out?

  6. rafa says:

mm i think doing your ob is not exactly what heroes do, they get paid BIG money to do their job, whats hero about that?
and about the theories and all, i havent seen any documentary pro or against, but cmon guys you have to admit there is something wrong about that, i think it was a fake, but to each its own

    • TacoMagic says:

Of course it’s fake. I mean look at that moon, it’s a total cardboard cutout. Not to mention it’s too small; the real moon is at least three times that size.

    • Rohvannyn says:

I guess no firefighter or police officer or member of the military is a hero either, according to that logic. The astronauts at that time may just have been doing their jobs, but it did take big brass ones to do what they did.

It’s not easy at all to sit strapped in helpless while you ride on up out beyond the grip of gravity, then fulfill the mission that took precise calculations etc to complete, and be prepared for if something went wrong. They wanted to do it, they worked their hardest to be the ones who were picked for it, but I still admire them for that part of it, for stepping up and going in the first place.

      • viking gal says:

I think one astronaut described it as sitting strapped to a rocket which was built by the lowest bidder…

        • eddiepscetti says:

I believe that was either Gus Grissom or John Glenn.. I can’t remember which, but they were spot on!

          • viking gal says:

Yup. Makes me think of the tragic O-ring incident with the shuttle.

            • eddiepscetti says:

              :(
              -
Did you know that Gus Grissom was later exonerated for what happened during his Mercury flight. Everyone thought he was full of it, but it was later proven that it was a design flaw. Again, the lowest bidder..

          • Danbala says:

I recall attending a lecture given, back in the 1960s, by John Glenn, the first American to go into orbit. A questioner asked him what went through his mind while he was crouched in the rocket nose-cone, awaiting blastoff. He wryly replied ” I was thinking that the rocket had twenty thousand components, and each was made by the lowest bidder”.

            … but …

One immediately wonders whether Shepard despite his reputation as an icy naval aviator might have been a bit anxious waiting for the highly explosive rocket to belch flame and blast him to orbit.

“People asked him that after the flight,” Glenn noted. “And Shepard said: `I wasnt scared, but I was up there looking around, and suddenly I realized I was sitting on top of a rocket built by the lowest bidder.”

        • Breesus says:

That was actually Steve Buscemi in “Armageddon”, the movie with Bruce Willis – or at least he had that line in the movie…

    • lowly grunt says:

How do you do an ob?

  7. beliskner85 says:

Mythbusters debunked most of the claims by those who think the moonwalking was fake. I don’t know where you heard about the lunar soil being stolen, you may want to check your source and tell him to get out of his mom’s basement and get some sun while your at it.

Also, if it was a conspiracy, it would have to be kept secret by not only tens of thousands of people in the US but also by thousands of people in the Indian, Chinese and Japanese space agencies as well since they all currently have or has had orbiters around the moon and took photos of the lunar landing sights. Don’t you think if anyone was going to come up with evidence about a hoax, it would be the Chinese? So, enough of this hoax crap and get a life.

  8. morecowbell says:

i only see 8 pieces of flair

  9. Mullanaphy says:

Looking at this again, they look better with helmets on.

  10. Semperfidd says:

Apparently you dont know or fully understand the inefficiencies and incompetancy of the US government. They could f<ck up an anvil with a rubber hammer.

  11. Fancy says:

Sorry to burst your bubble motivator maker, but actually, the astronauts had a very big, lucrative deal with life magazine.

  12. Rohvannyn says:

The Moon landing happened. It’s just that there could have been things that happened during the Moon landing that NASA didn’t want people to know about. My father, who listened to the original landing live, remembers an additional, smaller craft that was following Apollo and no one knew what it was. At the time there was a lot of speculation about it being a probe sent by the Russians, but it’s very difficult to find anyone that remembers or acknowledges that event today. Basically you had to have listened to the mission live to know about it. If there was something related to this, I could see why NASA would have gotten rid of the original tapes.

Still, it is an alibi fail because NASA should have come up with a better excuse than that.

  13. Rohvannyn says:

Hey, for everybody that still has a shred of interest in the space program (gutted as it is) I wish you a very happy Apollo Day, a day late.

  14. Paul says:

I was about 15 feet away from Neil Armstrong once. It was pretty freakin’ cool considering the man is such a recluse. :)

    • Deep Thought says:

The fact that you feel that way is so full of win it warms that stony organ in my chest…

    • tuckerlol says:

I was lucky enough to actually attend a lecture Neal Armstrong gave and be invited to an after party. I have a photo with him. He is an incredibly humorous and humble man. I’ve met politicians and movie stars, but I felt that I was in the presence of someone great when I met him, but he would totally not agree. It was an honor to meet someone who actually did make a difference.

  15. Bix Nood says:

    Except Armstrong doesn’t do autographs.

But it would have been full of win of he said “Kentucky Fried Chicken” as he stepped onto the moon.

  16. robrrt says:

Who needs endorsements when you can charge up to $1000 for an autograph.

  17. The Crapture says:

reason why they didn’t need/want endorsements: astronaut groupies.

  18. SmarterthanaLatina says:

And yet, they went all the way to the Moon without breaking their toilet….

  19. Sara Pulis says:

I don’t see how going up into space and wasting a ton of money is heroic. Brave, yes, but so is the stuff they do on Jackass.

    • Maxwell Silverhammer says:

Jackass isn’t doing something courageous in the attempt of learning and exploring.
You can argue that they attempt to learn how painful/embarassing, something is, but that would like saying “We know fire’s hot… but how badly will it burn?” Does that question every voluntarily need to be answered?

  20. Maxwell Silverhammer says:

There was a very interesting story about that actually.
The video the American public was NOT the original tape of the moon landing. NASA never got their hands on it until recently.
You see, the broadcast beamed down from the lunar lander hit home in Australia where it was processed onto tapes. That tape was of course sent through channels through a closed circuit network directly to NASA, whom having no other way to turn this direct signal into a broadcast, set up a camera to tape the monitor that was displaying the footage. That’s what the American public saw.
The original tapes were stored, but not found, until recently.
That’s where the screw up is… I guess a tape labeler with “FREAKING MOONWALK TAPES” wouldn’t work to label and identify these tapes. But oh well.

  21. Christine says:

These were everyday men that with the backing of legions of everyday men, did the incredible. I grew up in the 60’s literally in the shadown of MSC/NASA. These men were my neighbors, their kids were my playmates. I had the best childhood ever watching so many people come together for a great cause…that spun-off so many inventions that we now take for granted. At the time, the tech was so very low…NASA and their contractors were the historical equivalent of Vikings striking out across the Atlantic in shallow boats. Sigh, what so many of you people don’t realize what into this mission of Man. The best, the brightest. America’s most glorious moment. An earthling on another solar system entity. It boggles the mind. God speed all those NASA folks, contractors and their contributors. I wouldn’t be posting this if it weren’t for the space program.

  22. Michael says:

I dream of a better tomorrow… Where chickens can cross the road without being questioned about their motives.

  23. Duh says:

True but not funny. Just propaganda.

  24. Phoneboy says:

Buzz Aldrin endorsed a game called “Race to Space” in the early 90’s. Factual caption fail.

    • Igor the Vigorous says:

Still better than most people considered heroes or role models. Only 1/3rd sold out? Judging by today’s trends, that’s a miracle.
      :P

  25. CarmenT says:

Accuracy fail. Buzz Aldrin’s speaking fees start at $30,000 per engagement, while Neil Armstrong’s start at $100,000 on AllAmericanSpeakers dot com. Michael Collins doesn’t do speaking, and has done a couple of autograph sessions for NovaSpace for money.

  26. The Steve says:

NASA never claimed it was stolen. The tapes were in a batch of 200,000 other tapes that were sent for degaussing to be re-used.

  27. Kaeli says:

I don’t understand the science as to why the moon landings were or were not faked. I do know that the landings were real for one simple reason: Apollo 13. NASA, in dire need of funding, wouldn’t have faked a failure. Also, when those three men were in trouble, the entire world took notice. We even had offers from our enemies for help.

  28. Danbala says:

    BREAKING NEWS

Ther eis now, finally, photo evidence of the major issue with NASA mess-ups that they have spent the last four decades covering up for:
    Houston, we have a problem

  29. forge says:

Well. One of the more famous astronauts ended up shilling for Eastern Airlines almost the second he retired from space travel. So mmmmmmeh.

  30. forge says:

    “NASA DIDNT HAVE MONEY”

Yes, this exactly. NASA has not ever had enough money.

  31. katdemon♥fire says:

    I read that as “hookers…” I don’t know how

  32. mej says:

ehhh, it was because they found Data’s head up there! NASA doesn’t want us to see any of those alien artifacts littering the moon. 8^D
