Crashing.
Is that a synonym for “FAIL”?
Notice ‘e doesn’t fly, so much as plummet.
Arguably safer than flying with McCain, assuming it’s “like riding a bicycle” and you don’t forget how (I don’t believe he’s flown since about 1972). Although I don’t see any record that he actually flew a LOT, or was terribly good at it, at least it doesn’t appear that he crashed any of his.
Although, HW WAS shot-down in WWII {link}…
Yeah, but the caption’s about his son flying the plane, so ….I don’t know.
last I checked, three times. all three planes were named Barbara
I can’t help but think it’s bad ass that GHWBush sky dove. I’m 23 and I can’t imagine doing that.

Just sayin….
I’m with you on that. I always think it looks fun and exciting, but I have such a “heights thing” that I can’t get on the roof of my house without feeling panicky.
Now if somebody came to me and said: “Captain Wow, you have days to live.” I’d be on the first plane to do it, because really if I died, I’m just speeding up the process.
I want to sky dive so bad!!! I’m afraid I’d chicken out at the last minute though, so I want the instructor to push my ass out the door
I bungee jumped off of a 75-ft crane back in the early 90’s… had there not been PLENTY of adult beverages on hand, I’dve never gone through with it.
I do echo the “Complete Badassedness of HW”; however…
If skydiving were safe, the parachute center would not require you to sign a waiver.
My marketing professor decided to go because his room mates were questioning the existence of his manhood because he hadn’t already done it. He’s a navy man and the marines were the ones conducting the jump.
The big ass drill sergeant literally kicked his ass out of the back of the plane and called him a navy p*ssy on their way down.
Out of 10,000 feet of fall, always remember that the last half inch hurts the most.
That’s right, it isn’t the fall that will kill you. It’s the sudden stop at the end.
“When the people look like ants-PULL,
When the ants look like people-PRAY.”
Decelleration Trauma.
And wow! Hey! What’s this thing coming towards me very fast? Very very fast. So big and flat and round, it needs a big wide sounding word like… ow… ound… round… ground! That’s it! That’s a good name – ground! I wonder if it will be friends with me?
….and the pot of geraniums just thought, “Oh, no…not again.”
DNA FTW!
Suddenly your name makes a lot more sense to me. I can’t believe it took me this long to figure it out. *facepalm*
*42*
You know, Deep Thought, I’m starting to like you. Just don’t try to blow up civilization and we’ll be fine.
That whale was his soul brother, you know.
I agree, CW. That has got to take some serious stones.
True dat, Cap.
I now know the color of fear. . . . It’s brown.
Yeah, to skydive at any age takes balls. To skydive at his age takes balls of steel. I don’t like this. I don’t like liking Bush Sr. Make it stop!
I assume they tested him for osteoporosis first? Otherwise, stupidity in the maximum. But yes, cojones, bigtime.
It’s the whole “voluntarily jumping out of a perfectly servicable aeroplane for fun” bit I can’t get my head around. It means missing the second best bit of a flight (the best being the take-off).
I’m a skydiving instructor with 1400+ jumps, and I can guarantee that once you try, you’re instantly addicted.
Word!
An 85 year old man, voluntarily jumping out of a plane? Cool dude.
Agreed.
Meh. Weak play on the Bush is Dumb meme.
I thought it was playing off the ‘W spent Vietnam flying a desk stateside’ meme.
(One perk of the ‘08 campaign was that, while we got the McCain-POW repetitions, Obama was too young to have served in Vietnam. After 2004, I was sick of listening to people talk about who did what during a war that happened a generation ago.)
“Those Who Forget History Are Doomed to Repeat It.” That is probably why you hear so much about war that happened a generation ago. As that particular time in our history is still fresh in the minds of a lot of people (most notably myself), it’s hard to just shelve it because ‘this’ generation wasn’t around when it happened.
Especially since so many people were worried that the Iraq war was gonna turn into Vietnam, which it didn’t. It became it’s own entirely different clusterf@ck altogether.
… what would that have to do with crashing teh plane though?
A plane with square walls and doors? Awesome.
He’s actually jumping from the S.H.I.E.L.D Helicarrier.
Wait, I hate Bush 43 like the next Yuppy, but the premise of the joke is just crap. It doesn’t even match the man’s character, its just a cheap swipe for the sake of a cheap swipe.
Bush is out of office, right? I have no use for the guy (never voted for him), but he flew F-33s and F-102s, and was in line to be an instructional pilot when he left the Guard. I’m sure everyone here can top that with their flight experience, yes?
I can make a mean paper-airplane…
Pretty much what I pointed out above, although it’s certainly been a long time since he’s flown anything, there’s no evidence that he was a bad pilot. So, yawn….
With the past two lols I’ve had bad election flashbacks. Was there really nothing else we could have discussed today besides Sarah Palin’s qualifications and Bush’s flight record?
Michelle = gorilla?
Considering the number of people and press members who are still angry and butthurt over the 2000 election, I’d say we’re probably stuck with these flashbacks for a long time to come. Can’t make fun of the Teleprompter Jesus yet, so it’s either foreign leaders (who most people don’t know) or the last admin/election. Get used to it.
Also, once the depression hits (and with government literally taking over the private sector by force, it’s gonna hit hard – unemployment is almost double-digit now, but there’s lots more fun to come in every sphere) be prepared not for the correct answer: a trillion in “stimulus” that didn’t go anywhere or do anything except hurt the economy and a multitrillion dollar budget and hostile takeover of the private sector leading to the inevitable depression, but instead for an unending chorus of “Bush did this! BUSH PUT US HERE! This is all BUSH’S DOING!” Because people are economic idiots and they don’t understand cause and effect even if it’s explained to them. Bush-bashing is only gearing up right now; once Obama really brings the country crashing and burning to the ground, the Bush-bashing will begin in earnest.
ANNIEE SMASH!
Seems to be the only phrase you know. Whatever.
“I’ll tell you what the Pilgrims did bring: smallpox. It killed scores of Native Americans, ravaging their population.
And that was before we got around to shattering their spirit.”
WAH WAH WAHHHHHHHH
I think there’s considerable reason to doubt W flew any planes at all, actually, much less that he actually served in any guard unit.
During 2004 there was a $10,000 prize for anyone who could say they served with W in the guard, and no one could claim the prize.
His dad, on the other hand, most definitely served honorably.
Too bad he didn’t serve as Vice-President honorably…Iran-Contra, anyone?
“He performed Guard duty as an F-102 pilot through April 1972, logging a total of 336 flight hours[1] and was promoted once during his service, to First Lieutenant.[2]”
Fail.
Jimmy Carter leaves White House, spends his retirement spreading democracy.
GHWB leaves White House, spreads his parachute a couple times. *sigh*
Clinton leaves the White House, spreads legs…
Wait a second, GHWB did a hell of a lot more than Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton put together before he became president. Not only is a veteran of WWI, but he served as both an Ambassador and Director of the CIA. You can bag on him for not doing much after he left office, but then I would say he deserves his retirement.
Sorry, that should have been WWII.. doh!
*yawn*
