Look…

Look… other than 9/11, we kept America safe from terrorist attacks. Look at all the attacks that didn’t happen after that.
Also, no Americans were eaten by dragons during our administration. We should get props for that, too.

    • Irritated says:

What No Mos saying Annoying Ivan, is that the terrorist attack on 9/11 had its roots in the Clinton administration, and the Clinton administration has as much, or if not more responsibility for 9/11 than the Bush administration.

      • GazUtd says:

What NO MO is in fact saying is this…

“Hello, I am a Conservative Jackass. Despite the fact that we are greedy ignorant morons who only want to see the poor alive when they are wiping our asses, we still believe that we are kind loving people.
We never pay attention to fact, preferring to believe that the utter tripe we speak is true. It does not matter if you prove beyond any doubt that what we say is factually incorrect, that does not count, we are right and you are wrong.
Even though people like Bill O’Reilly could be proven clinically insane we still hold them up as some sort of God, which by the way we believe in as well. Our God is an all-loving God who does not wish harm on anyone, unless that anyone is poor or doesn’t agree with us in which case God says we can torture and murder them.
In conclusion I am right and you are wrong, now give me your money.”

      • cest says:

Since today seems to be unofficial “fact” day, let’s have another: the Clinton administration was in place from 1993-2001. As No-Mo’s list of terrorist attacks against American institutions predates that by 10 years, with 90% of the listed incidents occurring before Clinton came to power, maybe we need to look for another scapegoat.

MAYBE we need to examine America’s foreign policies and foreign relations for the last 50, 100 or even 200 years and ask ourselves what Americans might be inclined to do had they been subject to same. Maybe American’s could do with a refresher course in the Golden Rule.

Meanwhile, IMO, the quips attached to the Cheney pic are close enough to what he actually says that, sadly, it’s hard to laugh at them.

        • Dhoti says:

I have to say that I’m impressed. Normally, the “blame America” crowd is afflicted with post-WWII historic myopia, but you’ve really reset the bar. Clearly, the seeds of hate laid 200 years ago, during America’s adventures in the Napoleonic Wars (which are so well documented I won’t detail them here), have laid the seeds for what we now reap.

          • Seth says:

I think he was referring to the genocide of the Native Americans 200+ years ago, Dhoti, not the Napoleonic Wars. More recently, it was our string of atrocities in Central and South America. In our hemisphere, generally, if you elect a socialist, we will try to kill him and replace him with a tyrant of our choosing.

            • Dhoti says:

Silly me, assuming he was actually trying to stay on topic. Or you, for that matter.

              • Seth says:

He was on topic, but if you were assuming that he wasn’t, why mention the Napoleonic Wars? How are wars we didn’t fight in relevant to the consequences of our foreign policy, which is what we were discussing?

It’s like you aren’t even thinking about what you write, you just dash off some sort of absurd non sequitur hoping that the less intelligent will accept it as a legitimate rebuttal.

                • Dhoti says:

Kind of like how you reflexively spit out the same lies, in hopes thread skimmers or the less intelligent will accept them as truth if you repeat them often enough? No, I’m sure you wouldn’t know anything about that.

But, very well, if you’re insisting on hand-holding (again) — how do our “foreign policies and foreign relations” from the last 100 to 200 years have anything to do with the list of incidents No Mo posted? The Indian wars are about as relevant to, say, the Khobar Towers bombing as the Napoleonic Wars, which was my point. The “America does bad things, therefore bad things happen to America” generalization is lazy and broadly indefensible.

                  • Seth says:

What lies? Cite or shut up.

Let me quote the relevant passage: “MAYBE we need to examine America’s foreign policies and foreign relations for the last 50, 100 or even 200 years and ask ourselves what Americans might be inclined to do had they been subject to same. Maybe American’s could do with a refresher course in the Golden Rule.”

He is asking: what would we have done if we had been treated as we have treated others over the last 200 years?

I swear it’s like trying to explain things to a brain dead chimp.

                    • AC says:

I swear it’s like trying to explain things to a brain dead chimp.
Oh my goodness! That’s the answer!

                    • Dhoti says:

You’re not much better yourself, Captain Rhetoric. I’ll ask again, slowly and more clearly this time: what actions, exactly, are you referring to, and how do they directly relate to the items on No Mo’s list? Be specific; you can do that, right?

You seem to be unclear on the concept of the explanation. Simply repeating your personal political dogma, then falling back on smug personal attacks when challenged, doesn’t count as an explanation. It does, however, make it clear that your mind’s made up emotionally rather than logically. (Cue the “I know you are, but what am I?” retort, I’m sure.)

Lies, huh? How about the personal attacks in your last two posts? Or is that okay, because you don’t “feel like” defending what “everyone” knows?

                      • Seth says:

Wait, are you honestly claiming that America has not done anything wrong over the last 200 years?

                      • interesting says:

                        wowowowowowowow
he only wants you to be specific. Is that hard?
I can think of many things america has done wrong, but I won’t say their names.

Why did this nest above Seth?

                      • interesting says:

                        never mind that last part

                      • Dhoti says:

Of course not — but that’s why I asked you to be specific. Obviously, you can’t do that. And if you can’t quote specifics, then you must be debating irrationally on an emotional generalization. I’m glad we agree on that point.

                      • Seth says:

Here we go. It’s a long list, but it only goes back 120 years. And it only lists military intervention, not coups and so forth.

                      • AC says:

                        Jings…

                      • Dhoti says:

So you read one part of my question and eventually got around to responding, albeit poorly — good, that’s an improvement. (I’d ask you to clarify the difference between “something wrong” and a military intervention, and the difference between the military and the National Guard, but we’ll stick with baby steps for now.)

Now, the second half of my question — how do they relate? You *do* understand that posting a big block of text is insufficent, right? Again, be specific, if you can.

                      • Seth says:

How do those things relate to WHAT, exactly, Dhoti? NO_MO_BAMA’s original nonsensical list? Why people around the world dislike us now?

We’re imperialists with a history of attacking other countries preemptively to protect our interests. How can you not understand how that might make us unpopular? I mean, “We attack people unprovoked, and people don’t like us because of that,” isn’t clear enough for you?

You may be surprised to find out that conversations don’t always stay exactly on the course you would want them to. They meander around, people make various points, and discus various tangents.

                      • Dhoti says:

Seth, what is it about the phrase “be specific” that vexes you so? Do you not grasp that I’m asking you to show how your generalizations derive from the facts at hand? You seem to be vaguely getting it, so I’ll assume you’re simply unwilling to explain yourself rather than mentally unable.

And that “nonsensical list” comment backs me up rather nicely. You can’t be bothered to try to support your emotionally backed generalizations, so anything that would dare to make you back yourself up is therefore “nonsensical” and not worthy of your valuable time.

And no, I’m not surprised at all that one of *your* conversations meanders off topic.

                      • Seth says:

Dhoti, what part of ‘we invade other countries without provocation and kill civilians, thus people don’t like us,’ don’t you understand?

                      • Dhoti says:

The part where you’re still not proving your generalization, Seth. I’m afraid I don’t know any clearer way to say “be specific”.

                      • Seth says:

I was specific. I backed up a specific claim with specific facts. Claiming not to understand at this point only makes you look stupid.

                      • Dhoti says:

Then show me where you made the connection.

                      • Seth says:

The connection is, we have a history of invading other countries to protect our interests. People don’t like it when other people invade their country, therefore, they don’t like us. I am aghast at your lack of comprehension.

                      • Dhoti says:

What you myopically call a “lack of comprehension”, Seth, is in actuality simply not sharing your dogma. Your inability to comprehend that is obviously getting you flustered.

                      • @Seth: Aghast? Least you are better than Aghoul though I would have thought you Aspectre instead of a flesh eater with gas problems.

                      • Seth says:

Dhoti, I understand that you choose to reject facts and hold a series of incompatible opinions based on what makes you feel good about yourself. So what part my statement do you disagree with? Are my facts wrong? Does the fact that we use force preemptively somehow not support the conclusion that people don’t like us for that reason? Please explain your reasoning.

                      • @ Seth: I’m a little confused so perhaps you could clarify — is the list you posted supposed to be all use of any branch of the U.S. military over the past 120 years, or are these all actions you would qualify as “wrong” in some way? If so, I’d certainly disagree with you on some of those.

                      • Seth says:

@Diss, that was all military actions, provided for perspective between good/bad actions. I didn’t list actions not officially involving the military, like all the coups and such in Central and South America.

                      • @Seth: Thanks for the clarification. Carry on, then, guys.

Dhoti: Asks for proof of refutation.
                        Seth: Provides proof of refutation.

Roots in the CLINTON administration. I trust you are aware that Clinton wasn’t elected until 1992. 13 of the terrorist attacks listed were during the Ray-gun administration. Oh and FYI 2 of those under Clinton were carried out by right-wing American extremists

      • PortlandMark says:

Look, I want to do a knee-jerk reaction against No Mos too, but he lists attacks going all the way back to the Reagan era. Maybe his point isn’t as plain as we think? He also gives Clinton credit for the only reaction against terrorists anywhere on his list.

      • dropping in says:

Then why is he/she listing 14/23 events that far precede Clinton? By similar logic Oklahoma City had roots in Bush Sr, and Reagon, and where is the Iran Terrorists taking hostages in the late 70s? Can we blame that on Clinton too?

      • factorone says:

I think that’s hardly arguable considering Saddam Hussein was installed in Iraq in the early 80’s to fight the Iranians, and we (meaning the CIA and the Reagan Administration) armed, funded, and equipped the Afghan rebel fighters during the 80’s to fight the Russians in the name of halting communism. In a way, we setup our own failure in terms of fighting today’s “terrorism threat”.

Saying the Clinton Administration is responsible for today’s issues is irresponsible and extremely naïve, not to mention short-sighted historically. As much as I would like to blame the Bush Administration for allowing 9/11 to happen, that simply amounts to mere scapegoating, and makes a mockery of the past 50 years of bad foreign policy.

    • mothergoose says:

      You forgot one more nugget:

August, 2001: Bush/Cheney essentially ignore reports on the President’s Daily Briefing that the FBI had more than 30 investigations into AlQueda and OBL making efforts to launch attacks on American Soil, and possibly utilizing hijacked passenger airliners…

                    • Seth says:

Okay, you mentioned Jimmy Carter, and said it was too bad he wasn’t in charge. Which I agree with, because Carter would have handled things with diplomacy and an eye to nonviolent solutions. He would have gotten the hostages back just fine if the Reagan team wasn’t deliberately and illegally screwing things up for him.

If Carter had been in charge on 9/11, you can bet we would have gone after the real enemies, and not invaded a country that had nothing to do with it.

                      • Jack Squat says:

I’d figure Carter would just be attacked by rodents again, but you never know.

Of course, if that happened today, that rabbit would have been killed and and investigation would have been launched into which terrorist organization trained that attack rabbit. The lack of a laser on it’s head would take suspicion away from Virtucon, but Umbrella Corp. may be under more scrutiny.

                        • Seth says:

Jimmy’s problem was that he was too good a man to be president-not enough of the rotten ruthless bastard in him.
Isn’t it a pity that “world leaders” seem to have to always be such miserable excuses for human beings?

                        • PortlandMark says:

Actually, his worst sin was being Commander in Chief when the Army botched the rescue of the hostages. If the Army had known how to operate in a desert environment, and had secured our hostages and returned, Reagan wouldn’t have stood a chance.

                      • PortlandMark says:

I think it’s important to remember that Dhoti isn’t, in fact, a human being. He is the latest incarnation of the of the Eliza Turing program. You will never get any indication that he understands an argument put to him because there is no brain available to comprehend anything. I admit, it’s pretty sophisticated, but ultimately, it’s futile to use logic or reason.

                        • Seth says:

You didn’t bait anyone, Dhoti. You don’t have any bait, just some pocket lint that nobody wants.

                        • Dhoti says:

A personal attack on an entirely unrelated thread — yep, clearly no one wants it, but you can’t help seeking it out. *snerk*

You were claiming to have successfully trolled MG, ‘baited’ her into responding. Do you claim to actually have some sort of bait? Do you not have pocket lint? Does someone want your pocket lint? I really don’t understand how you could take my comment as an attack.

                        • Dhoti says:

And I don’t understand why you even bothered to type that out. After all, I’m not important, right? No one cares what I have to say, right? No one agrees with me, right?

So why bother? Especially why bother coming back? I mean, you’re a smart, witty Internet debater, right, not the sort of person who would ever fall for that kind of stuff on a forum…certainly never, ever get mad about it…

                        • PortlandMark says:

Gotta disagree Seth. EP was more of a drive-by spouter of talking points. He’d just blurt them out and run. Dhoti will continue replying with abuse for as long as anyone keeps responding to him. When confronted with a fact beyond the boundaries of his programming, he’s programmed to attack your personal education, intelligence, or integrity. Or to respond with total non-sequiturs. I’m telling you, it’s not really a human you’re arguing with, it’s a bot. I was joking at first, but now I think it’s really true.

Just as an exercise, try to find out any of the following:

                          1) What state or province he lives in.

                          2) His highest level of education.

                          3) Where he earns his income.

                          4) Any personal relationship details.

You won’t be able to find out any of them, because IT IS NOT A HUMAN YOU ARE ARGUING WITH!

                        • PortlandMark says:

I swear, this is just too easy. I wish your programmer would drop in and check what’s going on. At least he (or she, I’ll be fair) could fake an answer to one of our questions and keep us guessing.

Since it has yet to be relevant, I still maintain it’s more honest to refuse to say, than to lie and make up whatever will make me sound better in today’s thread.

                          Eliza and the Turing Test
One weekend at BBN/MIT the Eliza (psychotherapist) system was hooked up to the central computer. The Sales Vice-President logged in, hoping to give a demo to a client. Eliza works by simple pattern matching ands has no understanding of what it is doing and, therefore, not much intelkligence! The dialog that followed is given, below.

                          VICE PRESIDENT’S DIALOG IN CAPITALS
                          Eliza’s dialog in lower case

DO YOU THINK THAT I CAN USE THE COMPUTER THIS MORNING?
                          Why do you ask?
I MIGHT BE ABLE TO MAKE SOME ADDITIONAL SALES.
                          Why, aren’t you sure?
MY PROSPECTIVE CUSTOMERS HAVE NEVER SEEN A DEMONSTRATION OF THE
                          SYSTEM.
Does this mean very much to you?
                          OF COURSE IT DOES.
You seem very positive about that.
                          THIS IS RIDICULOUS.
What do you mean, this is ridiculous?
IS THERE ANY REASON WHY I CAN’T USE THE COMPUTER NOW.
Tell me more about your prospective customers.
PLEASE DIAL ME UP ON 491-1850.

The system operator, who did not know ELiza had been hooked up, then got a real earful as the vice president thought it was he who was responding to his on line queries. If the vice-president was fooled, then does it mean that Eliza passed the Turing test? And, what does that say about the Turing test as a criterion for an intelligent system?

                          (Back to PM)

Wrong. That list counts attacks outside the US. If we count terrorism outside the US after 9/11, we see that terrorism increased immensely in both the number and lethality of attacks. [LINK] in my name. Or google ‘terrorist attacks since 9/11′

DING! DING! DING! We have someone who picks and chooses their facts based on what they wish were true.

          • Is it so hard? says:

AAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNNNDDDDDDDDDDDDD you’ve missed the point completely. All of them did have an effect on American lives. Yes, there have been attacks hurting Americans since. But that isn’t what the list is trying to prove, and I think you know this.

And now we are probably going to get into an argument in which you try to use larger and larger words in every response, while not saying much of substance.

            • dropping in says:

But the list did not stick with only attacks on Americans in America- it listed foreign attacks as well—so logic is missing from what could have been a cogent argument?

              • dropping in says:

Sorry have to say it- if we use the exact same standards as the list- then terrorist attacks have gone up substantially, since Bush admin also quantified Iraqi’s as terrorists (some of whom are I am sure)…then how many?

And if we are going to count every attack (as opposed to the ones on US, not embassy), then Bush would win hands down- how many freaking Americans have had RPGs/IEDs/Suicide bombs kill them in Iraq? Over how many instances? Logic completely fail-

I think the biggest fools of all are the ones who think ANY politition is going to magically fix our economy and make everything perfect. Even if McCain was in office stuff would be the exact same. Though im sure im going to get a few nasty replies here about how McCain is a genious, Obama is an idiot, blah blah blah. Which I will ignore, because those people are douchebags.

      • tankrunner1123 says:

McCain voters are just as stupid as Obama ones. McCain supported the bailout and other big government policies. Im a proud Bob Barr voter.

        • mothergoose says:

Congratulations… you voted for a guy who flip-flopped on most of the things he supported while in Congress… Voted for the Patriot Act, then said he was against it.

Authored the Defense of Marriage Act (supporting a ban on same sex marriage) then said “oops, my bad.”

Voted for the Iraq Resolution, then when cornered, said “whoever the next president is should withdraw all troops immediately”.

Proposed that Congress should ban Wicca as a religion in the Millitary…but announces he supports all religious paractices.

Was a “leader” on the war on drugs, but now supports the repeal of the prohibition of marijuana…

Given his record, I’m sure he’s against the bailout and other big government now…but when push comes to shove…

Yep…you’re right McCain voters, Obama voters are all dumb, but you’re the smart one…

          • BattleCry says:

To be truthful, Bob Barr flip flopped after he started to understand Libertarianism. Call it an epiphony. Now my issue with him is that he had to have someone explain to him why he was wrong and that he didn’t come to the conclusions on his own. Hence, I cannot support him.

            • mothergoose says:

Fair enough… I really don’t know enough about him other than what I read during the election.

              • lowly grunt says:

I remember him from L’affaire de Lewinsky which is why I wouldn’t vote for the Libertarians. Come on, Libertarians! Front a decent candidate!

                • factorone says:

I’d say the Libertarians HAD a candidate, but Ron Paul was unfortunately running under the GOP, which was a big mistake.

                  • Alicia says:

I would have voted for Ron Paul instead of Obama, I support his politics more; that said I still like Obama if not some of his discussions. He’s so new to the office I’m willing to give everything the time it needs. He drew the bad straw of the lot, had the balls to try and fix it, and we need to realize that things aren’t going to magically get better.

                    • factorone says:

I think what you’ve said summed up pretty much everything I was thinking on the issue. I would have voted for Ron Paul, but the only issue preventing me from doing so would be his entire de-funding of education, which at this point, would be equivalent to telling the country to go f@#% itself.

Actually the Bush administration did not protect the US from terrorists. History’s greatest dictator/terrorist Adolf Obama stole the presidency with the help of the american sheeple.

EIN REICH EIN VOLK EIN OBAMA

    • MLD says:

Stealing the presidency? That would be Bush, in 2000, with the help of the Supreme Court, thanks.

You don’t steal a presidency with the help of the PEOPLE since it’s the will of the people that puts a president in there.

      • Careful, nobody explained voting to him.

      • Jack Squat says:

Bush didn’t steal the election; hell, if you want to get technical, Gore conceded victory (read: bowed out) privately, and then when the gap closed, he changed his mind. Bush won by 900 votes, and a mandatory recount of certain counties was initiated, in policy with FL’s guidelines regarding such a close vote. The FL Supreme Court decided to extend the deadline to a time in direct conflict with the FL constitution. This is what the Supreme Court ruled on…that the extension was unconstitutional, which was true.

Also, it’s not the people that elect a President, it’s the Electoral College – hence why Obama was declared victor before all the states reported their votes in, even with a popular vote that was very close (IIRC, he was only up by 2-3%).

        • GazUtd says:

I would like to type out a logical and intelligent reply to you explaining how he actually did steal the election but given your intellect I will give you the re[ly you deserve…

Wow, I must have you really worked up, if you’re sitting there working the refresh button that hard. Poor Seth, getting riled up by some troll who nobody listens to and whose opinions don’t matter…

                    • Seth says:

Say what now? You are fun to taunt. You present no facts and your arguments are held together with spit and bailing wire. It’s easy to make you look like a complete fool, and lead you around by the nose. I’m not riled up, I’m bored at work and taunting you is always amusing.

You are the one who can’t stop replying to me. You are like a little remote controlled toy. Dance, monkey, dance. Ahhhh, good times, good times.

                      • Dhoti says:

Hey, I’m just trying to help you learn how to defend what you believe, assuming you really believe it at all. (Either I’m not a great teacher, or you’re a poor student. Maybe a little of both.)

But go on, rationalize — I love it. I love your hate-filled invectives, your illogical rants, your laughable world view; it’s all great fun.

                        • Seth says:

Why do you pretend not to understand why no one here respects you? You bring nothing to the table, you never cite sources, and you troll, viciously and childishly, all the time. You get what you give out.

                        • Dhoti says:

I’m sure you think so. After all, what possible reason would there be for me to disagree with your strongly held but unsupportable dogma? Every time I ask you to defend what you say, you throw the same adorable tantrum.

                        • Now if only I could find the off switch to both of your diodes, I could get peace and quiet. Damn kids, get off my lawn!

                        • Seth says:

That is true, if by ‘adorable tantrum’ you mean backing my arguments up with citations and facts. Which I’ve yet to see you do. Not even once. You don’t have arguments, you have rants not backed up by facts. The mishmash of ideas you hold does not even qualify as a ‘world-view,’ its just angry nonsense.

                        • Dhoti says:

You don’t seem to realize that backing up an argument involves both citing facts and explaining how they fit. What you do is best classified as very loud pointing.

I very much doubt you know more than a bit of what I actually believe. That would require listening, and you’re far too protective of your dogma to actually do that. Your imagination seems quite healthy, though.

                        • Seth says:

I explained how the facts fit. It’s not my problem if you can’t understand logic and reason. If you think they don’t fit, you need to show why they don’t fit. But you can’t. All you have is bluster and rage.

If you would present your worldview and facts to back it up, maybe people could understand you. But you only provide angry opinions, most of which are mutually contradictory in one way or another. Your entire worldview, as you have presented it, is hypocritical, illogical, unsupported by facts, and based on nothing more than deep seated rage.

                        • Dhoti says:

Did you? I asked you before to point it out; you responded with a personal attack.

Like I said before, your imagination isn’t an issue here. Though you certainly seem to know a thing or two about deep-seated rage yourself. You must be seething by now.

                        • Seth says:

You are funny, little guy! You don’t have the power to make anyone angry. Someone would need to actually respect you or your opinion to get angry with you.

Again, I have proved my point. I have presented facts in a logical sequence supporting a conclusion. You have done nothing but yelp and whine, and pretend not to understand plain English. It is getting pretty old. You need a new shtick.

                        • Dhoti says:

You say that, but it’s obviously not true. And the act of bottling it up has just got to make you madder, I’m sure…too bad you can’t just admit it and get it off your chest…

Like I said earlier, repeating a lie doesn’t make it the truth. No matter how many times you want us to believe you proved your point, you actually didn’t. This seems to be a common theme with you.

                        • Seth says:

You have not proved that I have not proved my point. You need to show how and why what I said does not prove what I say it proves. If you can even remember what we were talking about.

But I grow tired of spanking your bottom. I know you love to be abused and humiliated by your superiors, but I do have other things I’d like to discuss with more interesting people. Check back tomorrow and see If I’m in the mood to dole out more spankings.

A suggestion from an observer: you’re coming across hypocritical and ficticious in your posts. You demand people pay attention to a minute detail you say, then ignore it when they respond to is, claiming they’re not paying attention or whatever. You’re better off acknowledging their response since when they ask a question of you, like Mothergoose above did, you ignore it or play the childish game of “if you don’t know then I can’t tell you” – that’s crap and you’re making a fool of yourself.

                          Just a heads up.

I just hope Seth’s “victory” is being judged by my tone than his content. It would be a shame to tolerate such shady tactics just because they tie in with the forum’s bias, or worse yet, to actually be fooled by them.

                        • Seth says:

@Dhoti, well, we can’t judge your posts on their content, because they don’t have any. If you need to know how to put actual content into your posts, look at mine. See how I include facts, arranged in a logical sequence, that supports a conclusion? That’s called an argument.

I know you think an argument is just contradiction and name calling, but there is more to it than that. Maybe your local junior college has some adult ed writing classes you could take? Just a thought, I know they probably won’t help you in your chosen field of fry cookery, but knowing how to think and write can enrich anyone’s life.

                        • Dhoti says:

Seth, I thought you said you had better things to do? Yet here you are, trolling after posts of mine that weren’t even addressed to you. And an occupational jab, too! (Though I’m not surprised to hear that manual labor is beneath you.)

With every post you’re sounding more like another of this forum’s trollish, self-appointed guardians, Fester. Though I imagine you would take that comparison as a compliment.

I see you’ve added confidence in your rhetorical skills to the rest of your dogma. Quite in character, I suppose. But the thought of you looking over your thread, smugly satisfied, as you contemplate teaching a night school class (another group you feel superior too, no doubt), is quite literally lol funny.

                        • Seth says:

                        • Dhoti says:

All you’d have to do would be to cite where you proved your point. It’s not that hard, if you actually did it. But instead you waste all this time dancing around the point.

Let me guess — you work in government?

                        • PortlandMark says:

That’s what drives me nuts. If I’m wrong about my Bot theory (I’m pretty sure I’m right), then what we have is a reasonably intelligent human being who so despises other people that he can’t listen to them. He never leaves any message that indicates he has read and understood any post, even if it is a post by a right winger. He’s never expressed any respect for any member of our little community, whether rightie or leftie.

Hence, I’m almost certain it’s not a real human, just some kind of trolling bot. Probably someone trying to automate the process of collecting $$$ on a per-post basis from a right wing think tank. Just imagine it! You develop this bot, turn it loose on hundreds of political discussion groups, and collect a nickel per post from the American Enterprise Institute! Some day, all humans will leave these groups and leave them populated by right- and left- wing bots screaming at each other (shudder)

Wow. This is how the war between man and machine really starts!

          • Jack Squat says:

Is it bad I find it funny that you mis-typed “reply” while insulting my intelligence?

I don’t think Bush was a good president…I don’t think we’ve actually had a good president in quite a long time (Regan had a good economic plan, but that was really about it), but to say he stole the election is more than a bit deserving of a tin-foil hat.

        • PortlandMark says:

You’re a little off on the facts. Some of them, anyway.

The Florida Circuit Court ruled that the law required all counties to report by seven days following the election, but that Katherine Harris could, at her discretion, allow for more time to complete recounts. Harris declined to allow more time for the recount, and on November 26, 2000, certified Bush as the winner.

On December 8, 2000, the Florida Supreme Court ruled that a statewide recount of all legally cast ballots must be initiated. The next day, the US Supreme Court stopped the recount, on the grounds that there were questions involving the legality of some of the votes cast, and that counting all the votes would “threaten irreparable harm to petitioner Bush, and to the country, by casting a cloud upon what he claims to be the legitimacy of his election.”

However, I think claims of a stolen election are legitimate based on other data you don’t address:

          1) The person who first ruled Bush’s victory legitimate was the Campaign Co-Chair for the Bush/Cheney campaign in Florida.

          2) The same person initiated a purge of felons from Florida voter rolls; unfortunately, due to sloppy handling of the purge, thousands of people were purged improperly.

          3) In 2000, Florida Republicans illegally engaged in the process of Voter Caging; wherein mail is sent to voters in areas that traditionally vote for one’s opponent. If the mail is returned as undeliverable, this is used as a reason to challenge the legitimacy of individual voters. The voters in question don’t know they’re being challenged until they arrive at the polls, and therefor don’t even get a chance to prove their legitimacy. It should be noted that the Republican party misused this tactic in the ’80s to exclude primarily black voters from voting, and has been forbidden from using the tactic by court order.

I won’t even get into the question of misleading ballots and claims of vote flipping on machines produced by companies owned by Bush campaign supporters, since these claims have never been proven in court. Still, I find them credible, if not defensible.

    • PortlandMark says:

Well, if you don’t count the terrorist attacks against our troops for the last six years, then I have to ask:

WHY DO YOU HATE AMERICA?!? WHY DON’T YOU RESPECT OUR TROOPS?!? I get it- as long as you personally aren’t in any danger, then you really don’t care what happens to the brave men and women who serve in the armed forces, right?

      Ahem.

      Seriously, let’s look at this.

Let’s ignore the human cost of the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. That’s criminally callous, but I already know you don’t care about the 4299 (as of today) coalition soldiers killed fighting in Iraq.

What is the economic cost of the conflict?

To date, the conflict in Iraq has cost us nearly 672.5 billion dollars.
The attack on 9/11 according to the Center for Contemporary Conflict, around $653 billion, including such things as insurance payouts, destruction of property, increased spending on security, and estimates of loss of to our GDP. This number is highly debatable, as it counts spending on security as a liability and doesn’t count the economic stimulus of hiring in the security sector and related industries as economic growth, only as drags on (ahem) the income of the wealthiest among us.

So, as you can see, all Bin Laden had to do was spend about $500,00 on the 9/11 attacks, and we responded by giving him everything he wanted: we removed our troops from Saudi Arabia, raised the price of oil to $100/barrel, terrorized our own people with the DHS color code daily terror alert system, and crippled our own economy. We’ve plainly damaged ourselves more than he ever damaged us, and damaged our “soft power” abroad to boot.

So, explain again how the Bush/Cheney regime did well by us in the Global War Against Terrorism(tm)?
