Bungled with windows is more like it …
    *grumbles*

  2. faetal says:

    this fail wins.

    • Captain Weiner says:

yah but his nose hairs fail.
      srsly. wtf.

    • Bauw says:

Most of the people who complain about Vista have never used it, and most of the people who complain about it and do use don’t know how to use a computer besides Internet and music. I’ve been using Vista for 2 years and never had a problem with it.

      • Gustav says:

Your post is a double fail:
        1. Unless you or someone else did a credible study, you have no idea what types of users said Vista sucks.
        2. If the complainers are people who don’t use a computer beside Internet and music, then it pretty much sucks. Given the resources MS has, Vista should be great at Internet and music, even for novices.

        • Dude says:

your post fails. there has been studies about people talking bad about Vista and never using it (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/mojave-experiment/) and the people who complain are the people who download anything and everything they don’t need because they are stupid so it doesn’t even matter what OS they use. Most of the time an OS is only as good as the user but advanced users tend to like Windows more. I know Vista can be a little slow but that’s usually if you are working with aged hardware. Windows 7 is going to take care of that for people who don’t know how to upgrade

          • Gareth says:

We had computers 10 years ago that could go on the net and do the basic functions that most folks need, why is it then that a 5 year old or even 3 year old computer can’t do that according to you. Maybe some folks don’t want to buy into the idea of a computer being useless after a short time. Why can’t software be properly optimised these days? I’ll stop ranting now.

            • Old timer + curmudgeon says:

It’s called object-oriented programming and encapsulation. The C stack architecture + OO means that a significant percentage of the CPU processing and memory (and subsequent paging) is dedicated to maintaining the program state rather than actually doing the work. IMHO, once molecular physics barriers are reached, there will be a sudden interest in optimization, similar to the sudden interest in Windows in multi-threading…both concepts that have been around in IBM mainframes since the 1960s. (Along with virtual machines…VMWare just didn’t pull the concept out of their ass 10 years ago.)

          • Old timer + curmudgeon says:

Funny, Vista still runs slow on my new hardware, which was “designed” for Vista. It’s also x64, and M$ really screwed up in implementing Windows on x64 (both Vista and XP).

Mojave Experiment = M$ marketing putting lipstick on a pig. If you throw 3.4Ghz 8-core Xeon + 8GB core + RAID array quality disks at Vista, sure it will work well. But most people and small businesses can’t afford that level of hardware.

          • Tyler says:

            Really?
Almost everyone I know hates Macs, but I hang out with a bunch of kids who take computer courses in college (I mean they leave our high school to go take the course), and generally, most of the people who’re *really* advanced with computers use Linux or an alternate OS.

      • valkyrie says:

well, I use computers all the time, can run them fine, mostly mapping software, but I still dislike vistaids. But you are correct, it isn’t that bad.

      • Zartocle says:

I suppose it’s not just a matter of “geekness”, if you consider that many companies explicitly asked for new XP licences. They don’t want to migrate to Vista because advantages are ridiculous if compared with troubles and costs for the upgrade. And so did most private users. That’s the market and even the giant Microsoft has to conform to its rules.

      • IBM mainframe bigot says:

You should really get out more. I have many horror stories about my Vista Ulticrap x64 on my dual core 4GB 1.9Ghz AMD 64 2 x 120GB laptop. Including:

        >50% of 120GB C drive is Windows binaries (crap implementation of dual addressing-mode support)

Paging algorithm and implementation is I/O heavy, and it seems that the more the installed core memory, the worse the performance

Had to wipe/reload twice (so far) after driver updates (not automatic, either); HP’s “backup” program is major FAIL, so they get some of the blame here

“ReadyBoost” doesn’t, even with a 4GB SD card (sure, let’s waste CPU by compressing the cached data)

Although the logon screen comes up in 1 minute (not the 30 seconds Ballmer promised), I won’t log on for at least 15 minutes because something called “TrustedInstaller”, which I believe is part of Defendless, sits there and scans every effin’ Windoze binary (see above comment on size of binaries). The HDD access light is solid during this time.

I’m a software developer (although on real computers, not toy ones), not a “use the Internets only”. I’ve been developing software since before you were born (probably). And I have the experience to say Windows Sucks. (XP SP2 is the first example of a Windows OS that seems to be relatively stable, IMHO.)

IMNSHO, *n*x operating systems are only now approaching the stability of medium- and mainframe OSes, like z/OS, z/VSE, z/VM, z/TPF, BS2000/OSD, (Open)VMS, MPE, OS2200, GCOS, MCP (no, there really is an MCP, well before the movie Tron came out)…I could go on and on. Windoze will never get there, mainly because of its complete dependence on the C language memory model with storing variables on the stack (can anyone say “buffer overrun”).

And Linux on z = fantastic.

        And get off my lawn!

        • Dr.Death says:

thats because your using hp hardware put vista on a good machine like a sony and its fine

          • paws4thot says:

This would be why people are buying Sonys with Vista, and retro-fitting them with XP, would it?

        • Tyler says:

… Will you teach me this stuff?

          • Seth says:

Interested in computers, Tyler? Have you ever downloaded Ubuntu and tried it? You can easily set up a Windows computer to dual-boot into Linux and Windows using Ubuntu. Then you can try out Linux, but still keep Windows around. You get SO many tools for free! You get a whole office suite (Open Office), a great photo editor (GIMP), Firefox, and a ton of programming tools. You can learn any programming language you want to, for free, using Linux. And there are plenty of forums where a smart, polite young man such as yourself can get all the help he needs.

            • Tyler says:

              -dribbles-
              That sounds awesome.
I’m on my half-sister’s father’s laptop (the one he used before he passed away), and he seems to have a LOT of the same tastes/preferences I did. He’s got a gaming mouse, advanced cooler, and some VERY nice memory in here (don’t remember exactly, not going to take it apart to find out :P ) So I already have a fair bit of things like Openoffice, GIMP, Firefox, etc. XD
But still… that sounds SWEET. Only problem/complaint I’ve ever heard about Ubuntu and Linux is that Microsoft and Apple don’t generally make their programs and the files stored on them as easy to use with other, free OSes… And that a lot of times, since the vast majority of people don’t even KNOW about Linux (or very much about it), it can be a bit frustrating. What do they do about that?

              • Seth says:

That’s why you set it up to dual boot. You can usually find a free replacement in Linux for anything except games (though there are some good free games out there, too, like Battle for Wesnoth) But if you can’t find a replacement, you can just reboot into Windows to do Windows only stuff.

You can also use WINE to run Windows programs under Linux, but not all programs will run right. And Linux will read and write to your Windows partitions easily, so you can, say, listen to MP3 files stored on your Windows partition while using Linux. Now, Windows can’t read Linux file systems, so you will need to save stuff you want to use in both operating systems to your Windows partition, but that shouldn’t be a problem.

You should be able to find some books on Linux at your local library, and as I mentioned, there are plenty of forums online where you can get help. But Ubuntu is very similar to Windows, it shouldn’t be that hard to figure out. Of course, the real guts of Linux is the command line, and that can be tricky, but once you get the hang of it, the awesome power of the command line makes it all worthwhile.

                • Tyler says:

                  Alright, thanks :D
Also- so, games like WoW, etc, won’t run on Ubuntu/Linux systems right?

                  • Seth says:

Right. Although, I believe WoW runs fine under WINE (WINE Is Not an Emulator, though it is, really) But that is why I have my computer set up to dual boot. The only thing I use Windows for anymore is to play games, lol!

      • shukov says:

I used Vista for 7 or 8 months until I could not stand it anymore, I put on a copy of XP and am now back to curseless happy computing. Here is the Windows Pattern — 3.11 good – 95 clunker – 98 good – ME clunker – XP good – Vista clunker – 7 ???

    • mjc says:

There is no win here. We get it, Vista sucks. Stop buying it and wait for Windows 7, and stop making stupid lols that should land the creator on Fail Blog.

      • ethana2 says:

I ditched Windows for Ubuntu at XP SP2. On my mac, I’m skipping Leopard ’cause I think it’s too bloated, so it’ll be dual booting Tiger and Jackelope soon.

Windows and MacOS classic are both, equally, complete crap.

        • Calboa says:

Yeah Mac OS classic is crap. But then again that’s to be expected from an OS that’s almost 10 years old. :)

      • faetal says:

In case I missed something (I didn’t) the funny made no reference to Vista… it referred to Windows in general. Window’s fails, but it’s what we have to work with. 95 failed, 98 failed, 2000 failed… etc. etc.
I never bought vista, the new pc’s I’ve ordered for my company since Vista came out I’ve paid for the “downgrade” to XP. I’ve used the win 7 beta and yes, it is nice, but that’s neither here nor there. Until the world creates software/games and applications that are unix compatible, there will be Windows=fail funnies.
        get used to it.

        • faetal says:

          shit…
          Linux not unix…
there goes the dramatic storm off I was aiming for.
          /fails

          • ethana2 says:

Linux is close enough. Same advantages.

..That always happens to a good rant somehow. Don’t feel bad.

I gave up gaming to escape Windows. I’d rather have a platform that does what I need it to do than one that happens to have an ecosystem conduscive to wasting time.

  3. Text too dark to get a positive vote from me.

  4. Dex says:

I like Windows but I hate how much they are pushing the platform. XP worked fine can we upgrade that and keep the system requirements? :l

    • Bauw says:

…You need better system requirements to upgrade, if you want better performance from your OS you need a more powerful computer.

    • ethana2 says:

XP worked fine? That’s not how things have gone in my experience, which I’ll spare you here.

I’d probably prefer Vista over XP myself, but until Windows goes unix, I’m probably never going to touch it again.

      • john_n says:

why in gods name would they go unix, stupid apple and linux fanboys have a go at them now for copying, imagine the amount of complaining there would be if they went to unix.

and looking at 7 compaired to ubuntu and mac os x i would say they should stick with windows, a lot better ;)

  5. solnesther says:

For all of his disposable income you’d think he could afford a nose hair trimmer.

  6. ph says:

In before Mac vs PC argument.

    • ethana2 says:

I’ll be running Ubuntu on my mac soon.

You know, ’cause OS X doesn’t even have basic stuff like a built in app store, categorized applications, customizable panels, and hardware support worth a darn. Plus it doesn’t even boot on my Dell (JaS).

      • ethana2 says:

…but of course, I’d take OS X over Windows any fricking day of the week.

        • Dr.Death says:

becase your to stupid to use a pc

          • Zan says:

And you seem to be too stupid to use proper grammar, spelling, or punctuation. Have fun on your Windows box.

            • Tyler says:

He will. The fact that he uses improper grammar doesn’t invalidate his opinion, merely makes it true that no one here wants to listen to it anymore. My order goes Linux (Ubuntu, mostly) Windows, Mac from favorite to least favorite.

  7. The Steve says:

Vista – Now featuring the Dashboard, an idea “borrowed” from MacOS.

    • TheRealWazzar says:

Which was probably borrowed from about 3 distros of Linux :/

    • Dr.Death says:

first of all its called side bar and its not borrowed its completley differant but you would know that if you didnt have your head up your mac loving ass

    • Dude says:

Macs now have an operating system that has windows that you can open, minimize and close – an idea “Borrowed” from… WINDOWS.

you do know Apple paid Gates to help them write some of their OS right?

      • George Santyana says:

You do know that the Original Lisa computer from Apple had windows even before Windows 1.0 was a concept in Gates’ brain? And the original windows software on an IBM PC was Desqview?

The windows concept originated at Xerox’ SPARC labs, as did the mouse and touchpad (called a “cat”). Lots of neat shit came out of there, stuff you are using today that is taken for granted.

  8. Sarah says:

He was pretty cute in his mugshot photo. ;>_>

  9. lollollllloololololoo says:

    Fail.

  10. AdolphJosephWolf says:

    Boooooooooooooring!

  11. Naruloth says:

He could do for a nose trimmer :/ Maybe he’s enjoying the PC vs Mac war too much to notice. It could be worse. Apple could come with sparklpires.

  12. sillyhatsonly says:

What does this even mean? Is the submitter running millenium edition?

    • Hoopy Frood says:

      Or Vista…

      • Banana says:

Vista is but a drop of fail compared to the torrential downpour that is ME. God DAMN did that version suck. I had to completely reinstall that sucker about ten times before my parents got wise and finally just bought a new XP machine. It ruined that computer.

Vista is actually rather nice once it’s all personalized and happy. Gotta have the hardware to support the software. I prefer it to XP. However, now that I’ve played with OSX I think I like that the best. I tried to dual boot Ubuntu on my Windows machine and it wasn’t having it. I’m not too much into developing anyways so I really don’t need it. Oh well, it was free so I tried it!

  13. Mel says:

    *adds caterpillar to nose hairs*

  14. The Steve says:

This is stupid. Windows is awesome, the fact that you can run it on a Mac makes Mac awesome. There is no Windows vs. Mac argument, because a Mac can do both.

Bill Gates is rich. Big F’ing deal, stop making stupid LoLs!

    • Jane St.Clair says:

Especially with this picture. One go round with Bill’s nose hairs is enough for anyone.

      • Eric-in-STL says:

Yeah, didn’t we have a similar LOL not too long ago or is my memory going again?
And my problem isn’t Windows. It’s having a crappy PC to run it on. On a good PC, Windows works just fine, I’ve found.

        • Hoopy Frood says:

My problem is that, if you’re more than just a “casual” user (that is, programmer or power user), Vista has serious flaws. It also eats up way more resources than necessary, and the best parts of it are strikingly similar to features already in Mac’s OS X.

That being said, I use WinXP. I also have a Mac with OS X, because each system has its perks and flaws.

          • Eric-in-STL says:

Admittedly, I have XP. My wife’s laptop has Vista, and I’m not a fan. *shrug*

            • Tyler says:

My laptop used to have Vista, all personalized and happy.
Drove me insane. Switched back shortly, even though I had learned all the functions of the Vista.

          • ethana2 says:

I only use OS X and Ubuntu.

Windows has no significant inherent merits. Only compatibility lock-in.

    • TheRealWazzar says:

      Won’t always work though :P

      • Paul says:

That’s what happens when a company only lets their OS be installed on certified hardware. Windows works on everything, Mac is only meant to work on approved hardware.

        • ethana2 says:

Windows does not run on PowerPC machines like the PlayStation3.
If you want to use your PS3 as a desktop, then, you’ll need Xubuntu 9.04.

Windows does not work on ‘everything’.

          • Dehnus says:

Actually it does, just not the released versions. The Kernel of Windows is designed to be easily portable with other hardware. MS just simply doesnt rlease it . Which is too bad, but the 360 (also Power PC) also runs a version of Windows

      • ethana2 says:

Indeed not. ..but maybe I should have tried iDeneb and Kalyway.
..eventually I just bought a G4 eMac to get the novelty lust out of my system.

        …turns out Ubuntu’s better anyways.

    • Dr.Death says:

you can run osx or windows or linix or what ever you want on a computer because their all the same inside

      • paws4thot says:

Ok wise guy; let’s see you get Windoze Vista running on one of my SparcStations without a re-compile (oh and about 2Gig more RAM to deal with all the resource hogs).

      • IBM mainframe bigot says:

*hands you IBM z/Architecture Principles of Operation manual*

  15. angrycat says:

If Windows is so bad why did Mac put Intel processors in their computers and allow people to install Windows?

    • ostrichman1 says:

because it only makes the already awesome better

    • Hoopy Frood says:

For the same reason you can get Mac OS-X for PCs: cross-market profit.

    • ethana2 says:

      ’cause AutoDesk engineers are incompetent?

    • JonR1138 says:

Apple went to the Intel chipset because Motorola decided not to make chips for Apple. Apple had to do something.
As far as which OS is better. I use XP and Vista. I’ve used Ubuntu and other Linux Distros. I’m wanting a Mac. Each OS has is pros and cons. Windows has the games, Mac OS X has the graphic design, Linux has the “What else can I do?” people.

  16. Fart says:

Failure = richest person in the world?

  17. Koki Kariya says:

    I can haz readable captionz?

  18. Cole says:

    Screw Windows…Linux FTW!!!!

  19. Vadim says:

    I loved it!

    /migrated to ubuntu

  20. ethana2 says:

Ok folks, I’ve seeded this comment section for some interesting flame wars, grab your popcorn.
(I actually have to go to bed now though, g’night my fellow pundits.)

  21. BillGates says:

We’ll just define Failure(tm) as the new standard.

  22. Audrey says:

Guys, Vista isn’t BAD. It’s gotten a horrible reputation, but they fixed all the problems with it.

    • ethana2 says:

Windows is bad. Vista is still Windows, that’s all.
Vista is a good deal better than XP in many significant ways.

..still nowhere near the quality, efficiency, and security of real unix(like) operating systems.

      • Dude says:

the reason unix is so “secure” is because no one writes viruses/worms/Trojans for them because no one uses them for anything important because they cant DO anything important. there not a versatile as a PC with windows. sure if you just want to look at pictures and watch movies all day that’s fine but if you want to DO something then I’m sorry to inform you, you’re an idiot for thinking unix is better.

ps: if you build your computer right, windows will do better with pictures, music and movies too. you just have to RTFM you NK!

    • paws4thot says:

Tell that to all the people who can’t install Vista SP1 because it breaks their internet connections (dialup and broadband) so bad they can’t use anything that requires connectivity. Like my sis for example.

  23. Forge says:

Meh, XP is serviceable enough. Vista sucks yeah all right, but pfft, skip it and wait for 7, like someone else said.

  24. wowzers says:

I like how windows is the best type of computer and probably all the people who have commented use windows

  25. thatguy says:

They accidently put a picture of Bill Gates there. It should be a picture of Steve Jobs. And they also spelled Mac wrong.

  26. perpetual says:

it’s just stupid to say windows is a fail.. since windows has done so much innovations in the past.. i saw a comment above that said all windows versions were a fail.. so not true.. there where some versions that had many problems.. true.. but still windows 95 where very good for their time.. win XP rocked.. vista had some new features but lacked speed and it wasn’t ready to be a whole new OS.. Windows 7 are very good.. stable, though it’s still beta, but close to final release.. i also run Ubuntu very much.. i enjoy Ubuntu and i think windows could learn many things from linux but that doesn’t mean windows suck.. that’s just what narrow-minded people say about OS that they dont like.. about Mac OS i cant say anything since i havent use any mac pc for over 5 minutes.. but as far as i know it has some incredible features, but is lacks in some basic stuff..

  27. Anonymous says:

That may be true, but windows 7 is made of win!

    • perpetual says:

i’m also very satisfied with windows 7.. it’s very responsive, extremly fast, it interacts great with all kinds of devices.. but still there are things in graphical interface and security that they could “learn” from linux..

  28. jzbass5 says:

    OSX never fails

    • Dr.Death says:

you would be surprised how easily a mac will fail that why they hide everything from thier users because thier users are stupid and would delete things they shouldnt

  29. Give me a gawd damn break says:

As a Mac user, I want to testify that I DO run games on my computer, but it’s hardly something I think is worth focusing on. Lets see how well your computer runs after a few years of casual internet usage. . . Every Windows system I’ve ever owned has ground to a halt after three years or so, no matter how hefty the hardware.
