    Historical LOL for the win!
Anybody actually remember this debate? I’d like to know what they were discussing.

    • eddiepscetti says:

I remember the debate and no, I don’t recall what was being dicussed. Most likely the fact that Ford pardoned Nixon.

      • MsMsBurning says:

YEP! That was a big one!

        • eddiepscetti says:

Which is why we got 4 years of Carter. Can’t really blame people though, 10 years of Vietnam was a bitter pill for a lot of people and they were ready for a change. They just didn’t expect a change that drastic.

          • mothergoose says:

I always thought Carter was kind of “Doomed to Anonymity in History” because of the Nixon/Ford Administration before him, and the Reagan Administration after him…He was, and is, an extremely intelligent man who probably served this country better in the years before and after his Presidency than he did during it.

            • eddiepscetti says:

MG, I will give you that. His Nobel Prize was well earned, and I have a lot
of respect for both of them for the work they have done after he left office.

              • Eric-in-STL says:

My opinion of Carter is similar to my opinion of Gore. I’m still not sure Gore would have made a very good president, but he’s probably done more good as environmentalist than he could have as president anyway, much like Carter.

                • eddiepscetti says:

Unlike Carter, Gore’s fat head isn’t doing him any favors. At least
Carter wears his humility in an honest way.

                  • pittypat says:

Yeah, Carter seems actually charming, but I given how much acting is involved I try to stick with policy not personality traits.

                    • mothergoose says:

But Jimmy had that great Brother…and brewmeister…I actually drank a Billy Beer once…and got the sh!ts for a week…

                    • eddiepscetti says:

I honestly never thought of Carter as an actor. You may recall
that when he gave his now famous flub when asking Amy about
nuclear arms, he was honestly perplexed as to what the big
                      deal was.

                      • eddiepscetti says:

Oh, and for the records, I never did like Carter as a president.
While he did have some memorable moments, he really did stuff the economy up.

                      • pittypat says:

They’re all actors. No way they get to that point without being very shrewd and skilled about behavior and its effects on others.

                        • eddiepscetti says:

Maybe for those who have had a career in politics. Carter was a two term state senator and a one term governor. That doesn’t really give me any indication that he was a life time politician (although he ultimately became one.) Let’s face it, Carter was rather naive as a president, and just didn’t have the shrewdness that other politicians normally have.

                        • pittypat says:

Point taken, but I can’t help but assume that his peanut farmer ingenue routine was played up for effect every chance possible. For instance, he wasseen as having such naive appeasement-oriented foreign policy approaches, throwing words around like Apartheid etc. Was that just an oops didn’t know any better moment? I doubt it. Didn’t he himself claim he used seemingly “innicent” but really provocative concepts to “stir debate”?

                        • pittypat says:

whoa, how does one deal with this wraparound=typo issue?

                        • Jane St.Clair says:

@pittypat: Ritual disembowelment to the deity of your choice helps.

                        • pittypat says:

It’s a violation! I’m the furious typer and must be allowed to exercise my speech rapidly and without error whenever I want so leaaaave meee allooooone!!!

                        • mothergoose says:

                          Anybody else remember when jimmy Carter claimed to have been attacked by a swamp rabbit while fishing? {Link}

                        • mothergoose says:

Is PK eating links now? I tried to post the “Jimmy Carter Gets Attacked by a Swamp Rabbit” article from Wikipedia…and it won’t post…

                        • pittypat says:

yikes. I feel bad for bunny *and* POTUS.

                        • eddiepscetti says:

*snort* yes, I remember. I think he had to much Billy Beer!

                        • rhorho says:

                          @pittypat: Having trouble with typos?

                          Bwahahahahaha!!!

                  • mothergoose says:

Eddie, agreed on both counts. Gore always seems to let his ego get in the way of some really good ideas, whereas Carter just works at his ideas and lets them speak for themselves.

          • SockSock come and get me fester says:

Just like no one expects this kind of change from Baracky Baby, and that’s going to be a bitter pill to swallow also.

    • wicked witch says:

They were probably talking economy, it was bad. Industry had been geared for war for a long time and now the war was over. We had high unemployment and high inflation. There had been many prominent assassinations in the previous ten years, (Ford was chair of the Warren Commission), Watergate, dirt on the war, and Ford was a little scary despite his lovable habit of tripping. We were soon to get our asses roundly kicked with an oil embargo, which Carter understood. He said we needed to address it as “the moral equivalent of war.” If only we had acted on that!

  2. RepublicanTroll says:

He does have the look of a man not wearing pants…

  5. Julz says:

..now excuse me while I go trip over something.

He was quite the klutz as I recall. Tripping up or down steps and such…

  6. steroid says:

The podium is the thing you stand on. The thing you stand behind is a lectern.

  7. RankMyTyping says:

    …is he wearing underwear?

  8. bermudarider says:

    this is pretty much amazing.

    btw.

  9. Nana says:

Carter came along when the country was desperate for honesty and integrity and no more “biz as usual.” Sound familiar? I think he was a godsend and a great Prez for his time. Even if he wasn’t wearing pants.

  10. Anniee451 says:

Very nice one. Made me laugh twice :)

  11. Steve II says:

I R sorry I no means to stealz the indentity of The Steve, I will go back to my cave and sulk

  12. NegroSaki says:

The fact that there’s no pants already generates plenty of votes.
