I believe the geiko in the picture is Ichiume of Pontocho, one of several Pontocho geisha who entertained Gerald Ford during his visit but the only one who was actually photographed with the President (she was teased later about being “the American President’s girlfriend” by the other geisha). She was killed in a house fire in 1979 at the age of 24.
