when one comes across a row of rocks like that in Iraq, it is because there is an IED along that next stretch. The locals would go just out of sight of the bomb, and set that up to warn our troops about the trap.
Don’t know where that is (I don’t think the french are in Iraq. . . luckily for the Iraqis) but they did have a few troops in Ashcanistan and they are in some “Peacekeeper” forces elsewhere for the Useless Nations

The parts moved, but I never developed an interest in learning to load a flintlock. I’ve never killed anything with a gun, so bird shootsguns aren’t my Earl Grey.
Though I don’t own any, I’m fond of the older Winchesters, especially the prettier ones (gaudy case coloring, engraving, fancy sights, etc.). The good ol’ Colt Single Action Army is fun, especially with pearl or ivory grips. I hate Bisleys, though. Something about the curve on the upper part of the grip pisses me off, and they’re a b!tch to take apart.

The Australian army have been playing around with Steyr products for quite some time now, and sodiers I drink with seem to be well-pleased – certainly a good cut above the old M-16. They look like someone ripped them from the console of an arcade game, and initially there was some “urg – plastic gun” noises… but they’re well-liked, takes adverse conditions in its stride and has good hitting power. Only criticism seems to be that field-strip / clean is a little more like cranial surgery; don’t wanna lose fiddly parts.

It’s a pretty nice piece of kit. Jams and misfires less than the equivalent US or UK kit. It’s the sort of thing you can drop in a muddy puddle, reverse a Land Rover over, stick it in a bucket of water over night and it’ll still empty the clip without killing the operator.

It may be dumb looking, but it’s reliable. From a field maintenance pov, I’d stick with the AK or Uzi in production guns. I’m afraid my heart belongs to the Sten… reliable at medium range and you can fix it from tractor parts. No other combat weapon is easier to keep going, even though it lacks the finesse and technological reliability of modern guns.

Oh I know the Steyr AUG now that you said the name, just didn’t recognize it from that angle. It was in a few video games back in the late 90s.

I’m only accustomed to seeing it down the gunsights rendered in crummy last-gen graphics.
