You’re not awful. We’re all (statistically) tightening up our belts. Charities are suffering as a result. One of my friends and I are doing a neat thing for Christmas. I donated to the American Cancer Society in her name, and she’s donating to a local no-kill animal shelter in my name. (Her father died of cancer last year.)
A lot of friends have told me that they don’t want to exchange gifts. One of them said, “I’m broke. Please don’t give me anything, because I can’t reciprocate.” I thought about buying her something anyway (not into quid pro quo), but didn’t because it would probably make her feel bad. I know we’re supposed to be spending like fools to keep the economy going, but I just don’t have it in me.
On a funny note, I asked my best friend what she wanted for Christmas, and he answered, “I want toothpaste. You’re getting a key chain–Deal!”

I was wondering about that. I’m spending all my free cash on friends gifts, but charities…yeah. I got 50 bucks and went with gifts, I’m an awful person >.>
