I rather disliked the domestic ones we raised. we’d let them wander the backyard for because it’s good for them to run around and whatever, when we collected them again they’d run into bushes, and get stuck…everyday…the same bush. Honestly they were the dumbest things I have ever seen. Wild turkeys though, those are some clever beasts.

I’ve got to agree here. I’m not bothered so much that turkey’s are killed. I’ve raised meat animals, they lived a good life (ate up my garden) and then fed me for ages. The thing is even if they didn’t show the actual slaughter, there was enough evidence to fill in the gaps and watching things die isn’t always easy. you can be okay with death and still not want to watch it, and a news program is not a place to have such things.

Turkey bacon = perfectly acceptable substitute although not quite as aesome as actual bacon, but soy bacon is, well, every soy bacon I’ve tried has been gross. I used to buy it for my daughter back when she was vegetarian and everyone else in the house referred to it as “Beggin’ Strips” because it looked and smelled similarly to the imitation-bacon dog treats.

I feel that the Obama camp had done the numbers, realized that they had the edge, and figured that to join in the mudslinging at McCain could only hurt them.

By taking the high road and leaving the low road to the desperation of the McCain campaign, their perceived integrity solidified their hold on the electorate.

Up until the selection of Palin I had always respected McCain, but that and his subsequent behavior during the campaign changed all that irrevocably.

Without checking, I believe you’re right. Oh, and I think I read somewhere that the U.S. slaughters 35 million of them a year. That’s a lot of methane, imo.

I love the fact that people think of “beef” only in terms of being from a cow or steer, then can’t come up with the name of the animal. I’ve stumped a lot of country folk with that question, which stumped me the first time, too.

One of the networks (CNN, maybe) aired back-to-back hour-long biographies of Obama and McCain. The Keating Five business was treated rather lightly imo, but that was the only thing I saw on MSMedia. At some point (mid-October), I heard/read that Obama’s campaign had produced a presentation about K5, but didn’t realize it was online. (Of course, had I known it would have been a popcorn event!) It makes sense that the Obama campaign would have wanted it treated “leak” style, to avoid repercussions. You’ve loosened me a little, but I still want to think that there was a trade-off deal made at some point between the two camps. Makes for better brain-TV, if that makes sense.

Pardon my blooper.. I just say cow. I got it from my dad, when asked what his favourite meat was he would simply reply “cow”.
If I’m not mistaken, the term “bovine” can be applied to animals other that cows and bulls, like equus can be applied to animals other than horses.

When McCain tuned in to the Ayers Channel 24/7, Obama rolled out a web site explaining the Keating scandal top to bottom and detailing McCain’s role in it. He just laid it out there with very little comment. I don’t think he mentioned the website even once himself – he just let the news outlets notice it was there. Nice, classy and subtle strategy there, but it got drowned in the rapid news cycle and never quite went viral the way I’m sure his campaign was hoping it would.

DIRECT HIT!! That’s why I have opined that, at some point, McCain and Obama pow-wowed, and traded evenly: Jeremiah Wright for Keating 5. Otherwise, there is no explanation, other than McCain feared backfire or counterattack, including Keating 5. That doesn’t make much sense to me, though. Towards the end, McCain was throwing everything up in the air, hoping something would stick. It’s a ponder for me, truly.
