What?
Well, I would say as radical as Bush was with “stretching” the constitution. He wasn’t that radical. He didn’t break free from the essential constraints that were placed by the Founding Fathers in the Constitution. Also, he never ventured into the issues of redistribution of wealth, and of more basic issues such as political and economic justice in society.
I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt, but I hope everybody who knew enough to see that a lot of what Bush did was unconstitutional will continue to speak out under the new administration. If you really believe in the constitution; BE CONSISTENT!
Thank you for your unbiased, factual intelligence. No sarcasm. Many people just LOVE to follow what any radical protester says, without doing thier own reading. I work in Washington state’s capitol building, and I see them outside every. day. Saying things that make me wonder if they have ever even READ thier OWN Constitution. between the constitution and the bible, I sometimes wonder if people hear one phrase that they think may be out of one or the other, and pick which ones they will contort to thier liking, taking it out of context and not understanding what was meant. Dangerous practices, I say.
One big difference between the constitution and the bible is that the constitution encourages you to change it if you find that it is lacking…
That’s because the Constitution was written by imperfect people and therefore NEEDS editing…
Same could be said for the bible. It’s been edited quite a bit itself over the years…
right.
God didn’t write the bible people
Correction.
The Constitution NEVER needs editing.
It sometimes requires Amending
Correction: amending is a type of editing.
… so by your implication, the Bible is perfect? How do you figure that one? I Guess you choose to ignore all the multiple contradictions and what-not (click my name above for more information).
That solely depends on the religion to which you belong. Some view the Bible as infalible, some view it as the inspired word of God written by man, acknowledging the fact that man is mortal and falible.
Unfortunately, most of the Right-wing wackos view the text as infallible, and refue to listen to logic.
Ah, but therein lies the crux of the matter. ‘Right-wing whackos’ are not the mainstream by far. They are simply the vocal minority that make the majority look bad. The Bible-thumpers you see on the street corners preaching hellfire and damnation do not speak for most of us.
The problem is that people (not just the “right wing whackos”) often use the bible to justify their own beliefs. E.G. – “Homosexuality is wrong because the bible says so.”
Personally, I think homosexuality is wrong. Because the Bible says so. However, the Bible also says that it’s not my place to judge that, and also tells me that the most important Commandments are Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and Love Your Neighbor As Yourself. So I WILL NOT JUDGE a person who lives their life differently than I do, and I WILL love that person regardless. How you choose to live your life is between you and your god.
I hope you all realize that this is NOT the constitution.
The Bible also says not to eat pork, shellfish, or wear mixed thread fabrics. I assume you don’t just pick and choose what restrictions you follow and what ones you don’t.
You’ll get told it’s OT and it doesn’t count, then some half baked crap about Corinthians (I always wonder if they apply 1 Tim 2 as assiduously… probably not)
The bible also claims bats are birds, breeding goats next to fences makes them stripy, and that rabbits are ungulates. Oh, and Pi=3…
Somehow I don’t regard the bible as overly reliable.
The PATRIOT ACT was a bit of a stretch and really made a lot of people angry. Though there are provisions for executive orders, Bush really did make them a form of art.
Um, WTF is ur POINT?
Maybe if you’d read the post you’d understand.
Or if you read, period.
“Also, he never ventured into the issues of redistribution of wealth”
Every president has presided over wealth redistribution, it’s been happening since the country was founded – the only difference is who they redistribute it to.
A fitting quote from the father of the free market:
“Civil government, so far as it is instituted for the security of property, is in reality instituted for the defense of the rich against the poor, or of those who have some property against those who have none at all. ” — Adam Smith, ‘Wealth of Nations’
Ayn Rand is a sycophantic apologist for power. Her ‘writing’ and ‘philosophy’ suck donkey balls and sound like something a high school freshman might come up with in an ‘intro to philosophy’ course. John Galt is a power hungry, sociopathic elitist. Bush presided over the greatest amount of wealth redistribution our country has ever seen, from the poor to the rich. Look at real wages for the bottom 50% over the last 40 years. They are stagnant, while the wealth of the top 1% skyrockets. especially under Bush. The rich don’t DO anything, they only lend money. They are supposed to earn a profit because of the risk, but as we’ve seen, there is no risk, because socialism for the wealthy was alive and well in Bush’s fascist America. Not that I expect you to accept or even understand any of this, you chose a nickname of a fictional fascist ass from a boring book written by a childish deviant.
The American dream says society is fair so it MUST be true.
Self serving idiocy, kind of like the ‘we all create our own reality’ morons. Excuses for power and oppression. Did you know that Ayn Rand was totally into being tied up and dominated? True story, she was a BDSM freak with kinky rape fantasies. That would almost make me like her; if she had just left her weird power fantasies in the bedroom where they belong, she’d be cool.
Ever play bioshock? It basically acts out Rand’s vision of the world and the consequences are… interesting.
Oh don’t blame BDSM for crazy… Plenty of us sane people with kink who keep it where it goes. It wasn’t what she was into, it was where her brain decided to apply it.
Lynn has basically the same kinks as you described but lacks that level of crazy. Just making sure to nip the BDSM = Crazy talk before it happens. Yes I realize that wasn’t your point but your wording was getting iffy.
A little off-topic, but…it’s so refreshing how honest you are on here. A bit TMI at times, but still good.
Ya, I don’t bring it up a lot in public but I do not shy from admitting it if asked. Sex should never be a problem between consenting adults as long as nobody is damaged and both end up happy.
I would apologize for the TMI but I am an open person or at least as open as I can be. Only reason I don’t talk about it a lot in public is a rational fear of repercussion in the work environment. Not in the mood to have my possible/impossible advancement stabbed when I have a family to support.
And I applaud you for all that. Rock on. *fist bumps*
*fist bump* Ya, I actually toned it down, just for your sake. There was more TMI in my original post to you.
Oh baby oh baby.
Thanks. Gotta keep the jailbait high-schooler pure, right?
Great, I guess it is school girl play with Lynn again tonight. Now that you’ve said that, she will be an innocent victim instead of a dirty and prococious vixen school girl.
>_>
<_<
Yep, pure as the water we drink, amirite?
I tried that once…it was okay. They might be fonder memories if the guy hadn’t turned out to be a total and complete douchebag, but oh well. You two have fun!
Hm…depends on where the water comes from…
Ya, definitely something to do only with somebody you trust. And trust is earned.
Hmmm, she has been a sassy little thing lately so I think some flogging is in order… Oh wait, I promised her just hand spanking tonight. That should do nicely.
Eh…he and I had been friends since middle school, and I would have trusted him with my life. But I guess you never really know people. Let’s just say that our relationship didn’t end well. To tell the truth, that’s my only real “experience” to date. I’ve kind of been put off guys since then.
Jeez, now I’m doing the heart-opening thing.
But anyway…oh baby oh baby, sounds hot.
I try, I wasn’t that into ropes since I like the option to change positions. But she wanted to play with it so I have been slowly learning my way into it. The other day, I had her spend the day in rope panties and… nvm, I will behave. I will say that she looked great in a dragonfly sleeve. Another fun one was tying her legs apart and playing pirate. I raped and pillaged and she loved it.
The thing to remember about guys is that we aren’t all disgusting human beings. Some of us are just perverts. >_>
Hm…interesting. *taking notes* Must remember these for when I become a depraved college student. I think the major block to my love life is high-school boys, really. They kind of suck…and not in the good way.
Although having forty-year-olds hit on me isn’t fun, either. I went to an anime convention this weekend, and while I was in cosplay as Misa Amane from Deathnote, I apparently looked like a good target. >_<
Yeah…I’m slowly learning that again. A little more heart-healing and I’ll be right as rain!
If you want to learn about ropes, look up Two Knotty Boys, lots of info.
Doh!!! My comment got cut off.
Ya, finding the right one can be a matter of waiting and waiting and waiting. @_@… But giving up only guaratees failure and all that other positive motivational jazz.
Ooh…sounds good, thanks! I’d google it now, but my fifteen-year-old brother is sitting beside me watching Halo things, and while he can ignore words, I’m not sure he’d be able to overlook something like that.
Sorry, hit the button too soon. What I meant to add was, one of my best friends has promised she’s getting me a copy of the Kama Sutra for my eighteenth birthday.
Awesome, tis very informative. Use it well and best of luck.
Sorry, just saw the cut-off part of your comment. Thanks! I’m sure after I graduate things will get better. There are good guys out there, I know it…it’s just that none of them live in a hundred-mile radius from here. ^_^;;; And I mean, you and Lynn are obviously so very much in love. Proof that it can work!
I’m not blaming BDSM for crazy, you should know me better than that by now. I’m saying, what’s kinky and fun in the bedroom is just plain crazy when applied to society at large. If Ayn had been more comfortable with her kinks, she might not have been such a wingnut.
Oh I do, I was just questioning your wording, my friend. It was getting close. Tis why I didn’t snap at you, just stating for my own pitiful self comfort.
“self comfort” doesn’t seem to be an integral (sp?????) part of BDSM, hehe. At least for people on my end of the spectrum.
The American dream doesn’t say society is fair….it says every body has
has a shot. Now many choose to use that shot unwisely and some are
lucky but every body does have a shot. It’s only in hard left regimes where
people get no shot as they are the property of the state.
“Her ‘writing’ and ‘philosophy’ suck donkey balls”
How can you expect to be taken seriously with such a sophomoric analysis?
Because this is the Internet, the great equalizer. My opinion is equal to yours is equal to his, regardless of age, sex, race or education, because you know what? On here, you can’t prove anything about the other person. So either get over yourself or GTFO.
That is an excuse for sounding like a 13 year old kid?
No, the informal diction is due to the fact that this is a LOL site and commands less respect than, say, the Vatican.
Kudos. While I’m all for literate discussion, I do enjoy a place where I, too, can say, “sucks donkey balls’ for emphasis. Uncle Fester had a marvelous line about ‘a great steaming cup of STFU’ that also tickled me pink.
*high-fives* Sometimes, you just have to say that something sucks donkey balls. No other words will suffice.
That’s a great line, too. *loves*
We used to say, ’sucks great hairy mooseballs’ but moose have gone out of style for picking on just now. Donkey balls will do well for so many current reasosn
I’ve had some days that have sucked chipmunk balls.
Rock on Sister!
…’cause they do?
The same way you plan to be taken seriously when you attack the person instead of the actual argument. His post had plenty of intelligent commentary to respond to but you chose to get picky and whiny. Address the rest of his post if you want any respect or equivalent thereof for you.
Huzzah!
Face it – it’s less of a mothful than Great hairy Mooseballs.
You really need to quit quoting those numbers Seth, they are completely false. I’m not going to disprove them, you are going to look up on the internets why they are wrong.
The key numbers here are:
7 million,…?
Exit poll differences in income 2004 and 2008.
Trust me, the people did not get poor under Bush. Not saying they didn’t get screwed, just saying they didn’t get poor.
Click my name for the income figures for the last fifty years (through 2003, the latest complete data we’ve got.) Real wages for the bottom 50% are nearly totally stagnant. That is real wealth redistribution. That is the real class war. I never said that anyone ‘got poor’ under Bush. I said, the top 1% got filthy stinking rich. Specifically, “Look at real wages for the bottom 50% over the last 40 years. They are stagnant, while the wealth of the top 1% skyrockets. especially under Bush.”
Slight problem with that last statement…Bush wasn’t in Charge for the last 40 years. So it’s not just him. It is, as I always say, a core issue with the Dems and Reps playing hockey with the people
Demicans and Republicrats… *sigh*
If bottom wages are stagnant, and top wages are increasing, that means there is more total wealth, right. How can you say it is a redistribution if the bottom 10% aren’t getting poorer? I oppose corporate welfare for the same reason I oppose any other type of wealth redistribution. If you believe that Obama will veto new taxes that come across his desk from Pelosi and Reid because they are inconsistent with his campaign promise of tax cuts for anyone making less than $250k, you are delusional.
Once you give government the ethical authority to decide at what income level you become rich enough to be bent over, the actual income level it sets is totally arbitrary. Today it could be $250k, tomorrow it could be $100k and next week it could be $60k.
Or as in 91 when you were super wealthy if you made 42,500. Anybody
who believes a Democrat is going to cut taxes is simply delusional.
For one thing, how do they pay for their social programs? Carter tried
just printing money and we got 22% inflation and a shrinking economy.
As for the Democrats taking the Constitution seriously, you’ve got to be
kidding. While they’ve had a lock on the ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC and
CNN they’ve been trying to shut down conservative talk radio and
any other avenue including political blogs that disagrees with them.
Funny, how Democrats only think free speech applies if you agree with
them isn’t it.
If you always do what youve always done you’ll always be where you always were. So the people who work for minimum wage now will most likely work for a little more than minimum wage 5 years from now. Unless they go to school, bust their ass and work towards a goal of becoming wealthy they will be pretty much right where they were the year or the decade before.
In the words of KRS-One, “the rich get richer cause they work towards rich. The poor get poorer cause their mind cant switch from the ghetto, let go. Its not a novelty, you can love your neighborhood without loving poverty.”
So those who work harder are supposed to be rewarded and instead the government comes in and takes the money they worked so hard for to give to some one else who didnt earn it. So I really dont want to hear your childish mindless rants about how the wealthy need to be stripped of their money and how its all Bush’s fault. Spare us the seconds of our lives that it will take to skim over your worthless post and just kill yourself.
The concept that this country was founded on was one where the states ran themselves and they were bound LOOSELY together by a federal government that had certain specific enumerated powers. The problem is NO president since Jefferson has followed the constitution as it was written. If you read the constitution it also says that the only reason that the government can collect taxes, duties, or tariffs is to pay for the debts of the country, provide for the general welfare and maintain an army and navy. It doesnt say that they can charge you money just to have a job so that they can spend that money on giving other people healthcare, food stamps, child care, retirement, housing, etc. 16% of our current budget is for the military and the rest is social programs (22% of which is social security btw)…
The real problem is the government itself taking money from everyone (regardless of how much you have or make a year) and blowing it on crap that isnt their job as enumerated in the constitution NOT the fact that the upper 1% have gotten richer over the last 40 years.
You’re forgetting the idea of inflation. the system is not adjusting to the change in prices. so things cost more but people are still making the same, also Education classifies you into a higher place class wise but it doesn’t really mean you’ll make more.
Blue collar jobs like Plumbing, mechanics, so on are making WAY more that professors and teachers. Sometimes people take rediculously low paying jobs because they choose alturism over making money.
I wouldn’t start feeling too bad for professors just yet. They make a pretty good living, especially once tenured. See my name for link to figures. I put in Univ of Cincinnati (my AM), and I have to say, what they are making there is a sh*tload of money for Cincinnati…
I resent your accusation that just because I’m working for minimum wage, and have been stuck at the level for years, that I am lazy and am not trying to better myself and work towards being able to support myself.
Also in case you haven’t noticed, but it is impossible to pay bills and attend school ona minimum wage income, so how would you expect people to better themselves when you don’t give them an opportunity?
Stanford is giving you free tuition. So is one of the Ivy-League colleges, I forget which. Their endowments are so embarrassingly enormous that they were more or less shamed into it. I’d recommend jumping on the opportunity (they have a really good distance-learning program as well).
Link in my name to sfgate.com article (sfgate.com is the online presence of the S.F. Chronicle).
“Ayn Rand is a sycophantic apologist for power.”
Except the whole thing about hating those who consider power a goal
.
“er ‘writing’ and ‘philosophy’ suck donkey balls”
. Yer doing it right aren’t ya?
Very good use of the logic and not the ad hominems
“John Galt is a power hungry, sociopathic elitist.”
Except the whole part about getting away from people instead of seeking power over them
.
“ush presided over the greatest amount of wealth redistribution our country has ever seen, from the poor to the rich.”
No, actually from the rich to other rich… the rich pay most of the taxes at present.
Not, of course that Rand would support any redistribution at all.
“Look at real wages for the bottom 50% over the last 40 years. They are stagnant, while the wealth of the top 1% skyrockets.”
Because the top 1% are inventing more, and the bottom 50% are doing what they’ve always done.
“The rich don’t DO anything, they only lend money.”
.
Bill gates much? And you cannot imagine how much work it is to choose the proper people to lend money to without going bankrupt
“They are supposed to earn a profit because of the risk, but as we’ve seen, there is no risk, because socialism for the wealthy was alive and well in Bush’s fascist America.”
And you’re blaming Ayn Rand, who was explicitly opposed to such, why?
Ah. Thanks for the explanation. I was actually a little confused what this Lol was all about, since I was still practicing free speech and the right to bear arms while no troops were quartered in my house.
All of these supposed constitutional violations, aren’t in the constitution…I’m really wondering where they get this from
The Bill of Rights is a collection of amendments to the Constitution, therefore, it is part of the Constitution.
Those were included in my assessment
teeheehee
I’d like to point out that we haven’t gone by SEVERAL huge parts of the Constitution. For instance, Federal Reserve, the Income Tax, The Draft.
Homeland Security is kinda lame, it only violates habeus corpus, the Draft violates aboout 3 different parts of the constitution just off the top of my head.
But don’t let the fact that we’ve been anti Constitutional in this country since we became industrialized in any way shape or form get in the way of your LOL.
Far be it from me to suggest that by looking at the Chosen One’s cabinet short list that it’ll be four more years of the same crap we’ve been fed, just in a different wrapper.
Idiots. We haz dem.
Article one, section 9 of the united states constitution says that writs of habeas corpus may be suspended in times when public safety is a concern
Yeah, that’s called Martial law, it isn’t meant to be used the way its being used today
How can anyone be sure what the constitution means? The ACLU tried to argue that the implied privacy rights extended to gay men who wanted to have sex in the privacy of a public restroom stall(I can’t remember his name, but it was in defense of the congressman that got in trouble for solicitation) And when the due process of law clause was put in, I’m not sure the founding fathers envisioned a country where criminals go free on technicalities. And the powers of the presidency that are listed in the constitution are also very vague
Because there was once a thing called Common Sense in this country…it’s been missing since the late 60’s, replaced by semantics.

Read there. The fs (or rather, ß for that matter) is a German idea.
Yeah, somebody’s going to need to brush the dust off, and read this thing again!
Maybe the guy who is making Community service for college students mandatory.
Check the 5th amendment. It’s not a bad idea, but it is illegal
I was under the impression it was not mandatory but voluntary and if you volunteer to do it you can be rewarded.
wait a tick…that doesn’t have anything to do with it at all. community service will not withhold your property, it does not stop your life or freedom. the thing tells us you can’t be put in jail without due process, protecting you from things such as Gitmo, community service is rather different.
Yes, his initial plan was to make it mandatory, and your labor counts as your property in a sense. When you have a job you sell your labor to an employer.
no, no it doesn’t. not really. community service may be used as a punishment but it is a far cry from imprisonment.
There are many scholarships, programs, jobs and schools that require some time of community service and they are not considered to be unconstitutional.
But required by the government for every student?

I was trying to invoke DWN’s wang, dammit! Don’t throw off my groove, man!
Honestly i don’t see a problem with it. it’s not like it’s hard. perhaps i’m not as bothered by you at the idea of spending time to give back to my community, but i don’t think it’s against my rights at all.
No more than a long wait in line is a waste of my time, or a boring class i’m forced to take for core credit, mandatory meetings or whatever. Sometimes in life you just gotta do what you don’t want.

Oh my donkey, what a day! I said a famous letter “s” toungue-twister (third string, starting with David), my head asploded, I came back as a ghost, went to heaven, got a crush on St. Peter, stalked him (who knew he was gay?), got kicked out and reincarnated. What’s worse, I have to vote Libertarian in 2010 (at least it’s an off-year), and can never use the “f” language again, or else is the fiery pits of eternal damnation 4 me. How was your day?
You’ll have to explain Libertarian 2010 to a foreign devil like me at some point. My day? Changing amazingly full diapers (that’f a good reafon fer faying fingf wif an eff… ftopf you vomiting on yer babief!), studyin’ for large exam tomorrow (for complete irony, the New Testament book of 1 Peter is there, so your tips on Peter’s new-found perspective will be enormously helpful!) and there ain’t much here for lunch.
Your day’s sounding all right too…
I have to vote for the Libertarian Party in the next set of elections, in 2010. (It’s an “off” year, because we’re not voting for the President again.) I’m not sure about the Libertarian Party. They sound worse than Republicans (like Bush), except they believe in legalizing marijuana. I think they’re whole schmere is “NO regulations.” I’m left-of-center, so voting Libertarian is stout punishment! Ahh–baby diapers! I prefer cat litter, because you can always get “just the big stuff” if you’re not in the mood to deal. Can you litter train hoomins? As for the diaper fullness, maybe you’re feeding that free-loader (hah!) too much. Glad to help your studies as to St. Peter’s proclivities. He’s good looking, but his fake tan was a little much.
I’d use the kitty-litter if the kids’d stay in the one place long enough. ‘Mazing stuf, kitty litter. Many years ago I worked for Qantas – we’d always pour mounds of kitty litter on the ground where we were working. It absorbs oil, hydraulic fluid, never did try it on hoominz. Aw, look – you can’t even try them in Rinse Cycle!
[This is killing me: "they're" shudda been "their" in my last comment. I prefer to abuse the language on purpose!]
.
Okay, I did forget one child care ingredient: duct tape. The absolute most perfect thing about duct tape is that it doesn’t come with instructions! Okay, so duct tape, kitty litter, set. I’ve used cat litter in the garage, but it wound up being used by my cats. Sounds funny now, but I didn’t think outside cats would civilize themselves that way!
Are you talking about a scholarship requirement? The money you aren’t owed in the first place?
$400, 000.
thats what a kid born today owes the federal government RIGHT NOW
Random thoughts….random numbers.
Random fail. Click my name to see you’re off by an order of magnitude.
That was ONLY if you were getting your college paid for. You don’t want to help your fellow man in exchange for FREE tuition then you are welcome do go in debt up to your eyeballs like everyone else.
Ya, I was getting to that point too. Fussing about doing some work for money. Wait, he is republican…. Nah, too easy a joke to make.
I received ZERO scholarships. None. I didn’t say community service is a bad thing, considering that I served as a Relay for Life Team captain last year and this year I am as well. And I will be up to my eyeballs in debt, because of the status of my parents. Even though I am receiving next to no help from them, their status somehow affects my eligibility for scholarships. On top of that, I’m also white. I am basically on my own.
Cry to someone who cares. I paid my way through school too, for all the same reasons as you. My mom and I took summer jobs in factories and as hotel maids and a multitude of other crap jobs so that I could go to school. I also lived at home and went without a car because it was cheaper, so don’t get on your high horse with me. You started this argument by making the claim that Obama will make all college students do community service and that is completely NOT TRUE. What he said was he’d like to pay for college for anyone willing to commit to a certain amount of community work after college. Guess what? The military does the SAME THING. When that was pointed out to you, you went into your “I’m a poor white boy who has to pay for my own school” routine, which does nothing to address how your original statement was WRONG.
“On top of that, I’m also white. I’m basically on my own.” Nasty little under-the-radar shot there’ pal. I’m sorry – if you had options on your race, tell me what you would’ve picked and why…
I’m suspecting you’re on your own because people start egdging away and looking wistfully at the doorway after the first three minutes of a pity-rant.
Life’s so damn unfair.
Fo damn unfair, even…
Good catch, Donks–MF has been borderline troll all day. He even picked a fight with me (rut-rhoz!) just for making an Uncle Fester joke. (It was an excellent jest, with impeccable timing, of course.) …and with me in the middle of my aforementioned transcendental upheaval, no less!
I’m only a troll for doing the exact same things everyone else is, but the only difference is that I disagree with the majority.
No, it’s the ad hominem attacks. You SO didn’t need to write what you wrote to me, for example. A quick read would reveal that I was working on the “light socket” joke, anyway. I’m sorry, but a little more diplomacy on your part would go a long way. If you take the drama down a notch (like ema, froofrou and others), you’ll actually get good discussions and respect. Read how they state their opinions without attacking opposition, okay?
Relay for Life? I’m sorry, but from my experience at least, that’s just the tip of the iceberg as far as community service is involved. Service, at least to me, would be working at a homeless shelter, or translating for Spanish-only speaking patients in a dental clinic, or mentoring kids, or something a bit more gritty to me.
Relay for Life to me was a bunch of privileged upper-middle class kids raising money from their upper-middle class parents and relatives. A fantastic event, but not necessarily what I would have considered community service.
Jesus, is there no reasoning with you people? I am being insulted and called out as a “troll” for doing what everyone else is doing: Defending my point with some personal stabs. Like it or not, you all do it. The only difference, is that I am conservative, so therefore, I am satan incarnated, I am wrong, you are right.
Two wrongs do not a right make. If you’re going to debate here, you have to leave the insults at the door, especially if you’re a conservative. Just because someone calls you a name doesn’t mean you have to respond in kind. Present your arguments with back up sources that aren’t Fox News or a right wing blog, and these guys will listen to you. Speaking from the ‘right’ side of the fence, trust me. I know.
I still fail to understand what makes me the troll in all this mess. I simply stated a point, and i was swarmed. I responded accordingly
I guess the troll thing came out when you responded incorrectly to the swarming. You have to be gracious in here, especially when you’re in the minority. I’ve said it before: don’t poke the bear. You know he’s sleeping, you know he’ll eat you if he wakes up, so be sure to tiptoe a little so he only stirs a little but doesn’t fully awaken. It’s a balancing act between getting your point across and just pissing people off. Don’t be discouraged, you’re not the only conservative in here. Just remember that we have to act a little differently and always try to take the high road. And make sure you remember that by reacting to ill treatment, you make all of us conservatives look bad.
But my mind is still blown. How does initiating said ill treatment not make liberalism look bad?
Let me put it another way. Think of yourself as being in a beehive, but you’re not a bee. Now, the other bees, if you make them mad, will sting you. This is normal behavior for a bee. You wouldn’t find it odd that the bees stung you.
-
You’re in a really big beehive here, full of liberals. While they don’t all sting (because they are generally nice bees, hehe), some of them do. Since you’re in the bee’s natural habitat, you can’t complain about their behavior. If they came to YOUR house and stung you, that would be different. You’re in THEIR house, and they have the right to act as they please.
-
Most of the people in here are decent, intelligent people who love a good debate no matter what side of the fence they sit on. Don’t let the insulting idiots ruin it for you.
It’s a bit late, they may have already.
Brava, froofrou! I just hope he takes your advice. I gave him similar advice, but he might listen to a wise righty more than a lefty. He seems intelligent enough: I hope he can pull it out. In my head, reading your “bee” scenario, I kept waiting for the “more flies with honey” shoe to drop! Good job there are people like you on here who aren’t as trite as I!
Seeing as how I live in a cliche’, I try to avoid them whenever possible, hehe. I hate seeing people have their fun ruined by taking something the wrong way, or by having a bad attitude. It makes me sad
Quit playing the “You started it game.” Sometimes you just have to accept being called a name and continue on your high road. No one said that it didn’t make the other side look bad, but you keep playing victim.
Also, you weren’t swarmed. Inaccuracies were pointed out, and you suddenly went on the defense.
Listen to froofrou. Listen to ema, if she’s still around. Sometimes people are going to call you names, and if you don’t do it back it does make them look bad. Take the high road with real arguments and sources and we will take you seriously.
Its insane. And Rho, I was joking as well with the “M.F.” remark. I really had been called that most of my life, but I was dumb to assume that would have been seen as funny. However there was simply no reasoning with the flurry of hate that soon followed
I thought it would be less partisan after the elections were over… Maybe in a month or so.
Until then, I’d like to entertain everybody with some fancy pageant walkin’.
What about the talent portion?

Actually transcript:
“I don’t give a goddamn,” Bush retorted. “I’m the President and the Commander-in-Chief. Do it my way.”
“Mr. President,” one aide in the meeting said. “There is a valid case that the provisions in this law undermine the Constitution.”
“Stop throwing the Constitution in my face,” Bush screamed back. “It’s just a goddamned piece of paper!”
…with WORDS on it. WORDS. Ya know, those WORDY things. *eyes darting*
Actual Transcript:
See? I can do it too! But unlike you, I don’t have a source. You do have a source, right???????
“I don’t give a damn!” Obama said. “I will tax the sh*t out of these people and they will love me!”
“But what about your promised tax cuts for the middle class?” a mid-level staffer asked.
“F*ck em! Stop throwing my promises back in my face! THey will forget about them as they’re marching in my armies to take over the world!”
-
Would Obama reply “Exactly …..it’s just words.” ?
I love how everyone is saying how YAY! WE GET BACK TO THE CONSTITUTION NOW!
When Obama has said in no uncertain terms how he plans to rewrite the constitution to meet his own needs, and agendas.
We’re NOT getting “back to the the Constitution”, … we ARE getting “Obama’s Constitution”.
Geez people, open your eyes!
Oh yeah, he’s totally planning to rewrite the Constitution. It’s going to be WWIII 5 minutes after he’s sworn in. America is on the brink of the Apocalypse!
you, sir, appear to need a lesson in civics – you might want to fast-forward to the section on presidential powers, and his relationship to the constitution. when you’ve figured that out, please forward your notes to bush and cheney… they obviously need them.
.
oh, and your “we ARE getting Obama’s Constitution” line? fear-mongering FAIL.
No, eidylon’s right, if you substitute “Bush” for “Obama,” and go back eight years. Just a coupla minor details, really.
Pardon?
@ Fear-mongering FAIL.
Ah right. Carry on!
I live for your approval, Unc!
“Obama has said in no uncertain terms how he plans to rewrite the constitution to meet his own needs, and agendas.”
Cite, please.
I’m sure he’ll be able to get all the amendments easily ratified by congress and all the states in a jif. No problem. Sheesh, how paranoid. Everybody stuck to this fear should go back and listen to McCain’s concession speech.
So, is he going to force everybody to be black, or is he going to force everybody to be gay, or is he going to force everybody to be commie-pinkos, or is it more of a multiple-choice kinda thing?
Nah, it’s more like forced unionization, forced gun control, forced AM radio control,…just little things like that.
Look up the following:
Employee Right to Choose Act
Obama gun tax
Fairness Act
There’s a few more out there, but those are the big three.
The millenial generation are already commie pinko’s. They were taught that way in their “No scores” soccer leagues.
Obama doesn’t support the Fairness Doctrine. FAIL.
The Employee Right to Choose Act doesn’t force anyone to unionize, it simply makes the petition sufficient – eliminating the time between the petition’s circulation and the secret ballot wherein management routinely exerts undue pressure on employees to vote against. It is, quite expectedly, supported by labor and opposed by management.
Double fail, i.e.
Considering your man’s record of ’signing statements’, extraordinary rendition and torture, warrantless domestic spying, et cetera ad nauseam, you might want to be a little more circumspect in your accusations about respect for the Constitution.
Forcing people to use a non-secret ballot to vote in unions is the same as bullying them to make a choice one way or the other. Knowing the unions that I’v known, I can’t imagine the peer pressure and the bullying that would go on if some poor person didn’t vote for the union.
-
We needed unions at one time. In some places, we still need unions. But with employee/employer laws the way they are, I’m not sure they’re necessary to the point that they should be basically mandatory. A smart employer isn’t going to piss off employees who can now sue with or without a union.
-
The unions in my company screwed a bunch of people over as well. In our non-union plants we were able to give a pay raise that the union plants wouldn’t aprove. How is that helpful?
The petition has to be circulated to get a secret ballot now anyway; the proposed law is not imposing anything new, but eliminating a step that has served mainly as a window of opportunity for intimidation.
In any case, characterizing it as a Constitutional issue as BattleCry did is…hmmm, I’m trying to stop short of saying ‘delusional’ here but I don’t think I really can.
First off, Bush was not “my man”, but nice assumption, asshat.
Secondly,
The Employee’s right to choose act takes away the secret ballot, which is one of most time honored rights, the ability to vote secretly so as to make coersion impossible or at the very least impractical.
If you think that provision will not be used to strongarm “no” votes into “yes” votes, then I believe you’ll have to reevaluate what delusional really means and who it applies to in this conversation.
I can’t see from work…is she hot?
You didn’t get the text message that said all white people whose ancestors owned slaves are to report to the cotton fields on January 21?
Whew! My ancestors are immigrants from Germany and England. No slaves here, hehe. Sucks to be ya’ll
Yeah, luckily I’m only a couple generations removed from immigration, I just read it over my friend’s shoulder.
My ancestors aren’t slaves either, they’re petty criminals. Yay, Australia
Or rather, they didn’t own slaves. I think I missed a few words.
Aww but i don’t even know that part of the family very well :<
can i be exempt cause i’m part irish?
Yeah, all well and good, unless you’re gay. Then you get thrown under the bus and told that the Equal Protection Clause doesn’t really mean anything for you.
In bed with legalized marriage even. Oh wait, that hasn’t happened yet…
Odd. Being gay *bisexual female that still looks and dresses femininely*, and working for the state capital, I know full well that any GLBT’s that get hired here and MANY other places are pretty much immune to firing and layoffs, and rarely get chastized for *even large* mistakes. Oh, and if we apply for a job, and it is obvios that we are GLBT, it is an unwritten law that we get hired, even before a ’straight’ person with much more experience. Yes, thrown under the bus, pity us all while most of us get better treatment in the workplace for employers’ fear of lawsuits, accusations of bias, etc. and most of the ones I know weren’t ever interested in marriage until it came down to ‘just showing that we could, and you can’t do anything about it’. Just because I’m bi, doesn’t mean I don’t disagree with ALOT of the inside garbage I hear some of the others getting away with.
You are such a liar. You aren’t gay or bisexual, I doubt you’re even a woman, and that bullshit you just made up is completely transparent. What state capital are you even talking about? It doesn’t even make sense, I don’t recall even a single case of anyone winning a sexual orientation discrimination lawsuit anywhere in the country. Not one.
Someone who disagrees with you must be lying. And I assume from your angry post you have every court case in the history of the United States memorized?
I can believe her, my aunt is the same way. Shes bi and has made a similar rant to me, the only difference is she doesn’t work in a state capital, she is a college student in Houston.
The idea that gay, lesbian and bisexual people bet preferential treatment is simply ludicrous. Exceptional claims require exceptional proof, from reputable sources, or they will rightfully be dismissed out of hand. Show me some proof, not anecdotal evidence.
Yes, I am a huge liar. I must confess that the past 8 years of my life have been a lie. And that I came out to close co-workers, friends, family, and my hubby, set up a website, and have conducted my lifestyle so that one day I could fulfill my dream of making false comments on a satire site. Alll a part of my conspiracy. same as the ‘Thesenga&Dogherty vs. Puget Sound Naval Shipyard’ case in Washington state, where I live. That never happened, either. Here I am, in all of my lying, straight glory http://www.myspace.com/hellhathnofury3
you shouldnt talk with your mouth so full of hatred and foolishness, it’s rude
Oh yeah, and those are fake boobs, and my daughter isn’t real, either because you doubt I’m a woman. Washington State Capitol, Olympia. I can give you the address and my office and ext if you’d like, but nutcases such as yourself are the type to do irrational things. I used to be a Microsoft intern, and got hired on as an IT and am working towards my new job as Internet and Software Safety Investigator for the state. Yes, so full of bullshit. My name is right there on the website, Melissa Carraway. I have nothing to hide, and I officially love Matthew for being a man and having some sense, standing up for me the way he did. Thank you.
*applauds*
Well done.
Hell, girl, I have socks older than you…
…and I have socks older than Uncle Fester. Hey–Where’s this going?
Oh yeah? Well, I’m Uncle Fester’s Grandma!
*knits his socks*
Auntie Em, Auntie Em!!! Haven’t heard from you since the last seance!
One of those embarrassing ‘accidents with a time machine’… I prefer it’s never mentioned again
And I… not going to go there.
Funny, I can’t find reference to that case anywhere. You know what you call one single case? An anecdote. An interesting story. What you don’t call it is proof of some great GLBT legal conspiracy. You really think GLBT people have an unfair advantage? Do you also have unicorns on your planet? You may actually be a bisexual woman for all I know, but my claim still stands: you are full of it. There is no discernible pattern of GLBT people suing for discrimination and winning. Your other statements are still flat out lies. ‘Bisexual’ people who completely fit into society and are indistinguishable from straight people unless they specifically tell you otherwise are NOT good spokespeople for the GLBT scene, because they have suffered NONE of the discrimination that GLBT people face every day.
Actually, I AM a spokesperson for GLBT’s, thankyouverymuch. Working for the state capitol, I help in scheduling the closing of streets, working of extra police and and hate crime investigators, etc for Gay Pride Parade in Seattle, Portland, Port Townsend and Olympia. But that’s okay. Keep talking of things which you know nothing of.
Okay then, proof that GLBT people get preferential treatment or
STFU. Give me a link, anything that I can check that proves your ridicluous assertion that you can’t fire GLBT from jobs for fear of being sued. If you are actually working towards equality, good for you. But this is the Internet, and when you see someone claiming to be a member of a minority, but acting against that minorities interests, the safest guess is that they are a liar. If you have no proof that GLBT people are fire-proof, why would you post such an inflamatory statement? You must know that such a statement seems remarkable to anyone who has worked on such issues, as I have, and requires proof. If I said I could ignite fires with my mind, you’d want proof, right? The idea that an oppressed minority can’t be fired from jobs is equally ludicrous. Again, if you really are pro-LGBT, I apologize.
A bit delayed on the apology there, mate. No need to issue the hate so harsh. I have seen people get by with the threat of law suit, nothing I can prove unfortunately with hard evidence but things I have observed. As a white, creepy looking guy, I bite my tongue and stay as quiet as possible cuz I know I can get fired for pretty much any infraction if I look at a woman wrong.
As for gays, I suspect the government offices would be a bit more paranoid. However, proof would be great but her claim isn’t that farfetched as a personal anecdote. But yea, I am babbling so I will shut up.
Hell, in our sue happy society just about ANYONE can and will threaten lawsuit and it makes people nervous. Now, HHNF’s assertion that all GLBT people take advantage of that, or that it prevents them from being oppressed is a bit ridiculous IMO. Seth did come off pretty harsh, but then, that’s how Seth rolls.
He has anger issues sometimes, that’s why he’s the Batman of the Logic League. He was definitely working on his own and not under the League’s aegis this time.
So if he is Batman, I shudder to think of what I am…
Actually Jane, it’s more than a bit ridiculous, given how few states even have law protecting GLBT persons from employment discrimination (or any other sort for that matter). I’m glad I live in one of those very few states, although I need not avail myself of the protection.
@DWN Hmmmm, this warrents some thought. I’m not sure the DC universe quite has a character that would match your unique *ahem* flavor.
@slanagat I was going for diplomacy.
And we all know Batman=better than the other superheroes. You know WHY? Because he doesn’t have superpowers. He has to work hard for all of his awesomeness. And he has the skills to pay the bills. not many guys can be ridiculously good looking while dressing as a flying rodent in tights. *except that guy at the strip club…*
No way. Superheroes are supposed to be super, not just rich guys with gadgets. Spiderman wins fight with batman, loses to superman, who then loses to Chuck Norris
Ya Batman wouldn’t have become Batman without that hefty inheritance but least he uses it well so I can’t begrudge him.
Easy now Seth. Woosah
Ease up on the anger for a sec. Disagree, don’t hate!
Yes, big liar. I came out to my hubby, family, friends and close co-workers, set up a website and have conducted my lifestyle in this way so that one day, I could make false comments on a satire site, and have people I know to back me up. Yes, it was alllll part of my huge conspiracy.
Here’s my big lie of a myspace, with all of my false life http://www.myspace.com/hellhathnofury3
and please don’t talk when your mouth is full of stupidity, it’s rude.
“most of the ones I know weren’t ever interested in marriage until it came down to ‘just showing that we could”
Why anyone would NOT want to get married, and have the life-enhancing experience of getting six identical Mr. Coffees for wedding presents, I simply don’t understand.
[making fun of wedding presents, NOT gay marriage, in case it needs to be pointed out]
WTF I only got 5 Mr. Coffees!
*sues everyone, writes in to Dear Abby*
*offers HHNF wrapped fondue pot* Sorry, but it’s the best I could do. In this economy, I’m regifting this year.
Fondue pots are a great chocolate melter. And that leads to all kinds of fun that I shouldn’t talk about here.
And by that I mean cleaning up the greasy, messy dishes later.
Yeah, but because I am a guilt-ridden ex-Catholic (excuse redundancy), I felt obligated to write six DIFFERENT thank you notes.
Girls, girls…REGISTRY!!! :p
Oh wait, that only works if those buying them actually use it…damn…well there’s always eBay!
My daughter’s godmother died yesterday after three months’ struggle to recover from a series of strokes.
Her wife was accorded every respect by the staff at Massachusetts General Hospital, was able to make her medical decisions without legal gyrations, and now has the prerogative to override her hateful, spiteful, estranged mother regarding funerary arrangements in keeping with their own spiritual leanings.
I thank $DEITY they lived in Massachusetts where a simple ceremony made the whole tragedy manageable without paying thousands of dollars to lawyers.
Just showing they could…?
Yay Mass.
As for the, just showing they could bit…Is it alright to take the right to vote from women because some won’t use it? How about a woman’s ability to go to school and learn more than just “domestic” jobs?
I know personally, if women were again unable to learn the sciences I would be the first up in arms, despite the fact i am an English and Philosophy major.
Not very good analogies, I’m sorry it’s hard to find a good simile, however discrediting something as “just showing they could” is insane. I know I can’t see myself married in the near or foreseeable future, but i would still be…dismayed to find I no longer had that right.
I think you know full well that I meant many of them, not all. Such as if ANY of the non-marriage minded men found out that they could marry any Playboy Bunny they wanted to, at any given moment, they would, even if they would never dream of getting married to anyone. Don’t be a dingus, Captain Obvious.
My gay married Jewish Aunt did it for love, whereas my friend did it just because she could, as did MANY of the people that were waiting in line outside my office. They obviously did not take it seriously, and it made a farce of all the ones that were serious and in love. Just like straight people and Vegas weddings. Durrr durr durr, everyone.
Wow, ad hominem abusive, you has it.
You might not have noticed by things can easily been misunderstood on the internet, and reacting like an idiot going durr durr durr and calling people captain obvious just proves your opinion was worthless to begin with.
Get over yourself and try to stop failing so hard. Maybe take a logic class or two so you don’t use such idiotic fallicies.
Yeah, failing so hard. 23 years old, respected in the political, tech, GLBT societies, having a job that pays enough that I have never had to use a credit card or borrow, have raised my own child since 14 yrs old, graduated at 16, Microsoft tech intern at 17, married, spokesperson for raped and abused teen girls *hence the child at 14*, own my own home, cars, racing performance shop and can still home cook my own meals?
Yes, I have failed. I’m hanging my head in shame and heading to the welfare office right now. See you there.
I am over myself. But it seems that you just can’t stop coming back to me.
Somehow I doubt GLBTQI couples are getting married just to piss of straight people.
I only wish that the workplaces in the Midwest were as implicitly favorable towards people that are obviously GLBTQI, because I’m pretty sure it’s not the case.
I also don’t think that it’s true that people were hired for simply being GLBT, because even the most obvious signs are not necessarily an indication of a person’s sexual orientation. I don’t know the whole story so I can’t be sure, but isn’t it possible that a heterosexual male but with some stereotypical homosexual tendencies (lisp, interest in musicals, snappy dresser etc.) might have been hired instead?
I am not saying that GLBTQI individuals take advantage of the system, but I don’t think that it’s fair to say that they’re being favored by the system quite yet. I felt it was like one co-worker I had that said it was now trendy to be gay, and that we were equals because there’s a gay character in every movie and TV show now.
You are correct, the Midwest is absolutely the wrong place to be gay activist in any way. Even in more tolerant cities like Columbus, OH.
However, on the coasts, where higher concentrations of LGBT populations live, and as a result “sensitivity” (and sometimes law) is tuned higher, it’s more likely that the path of least resistance is simply to hire the minority candidate. Corporations typically are very risk-averse, and inviting even the possibility of a orientation- or gender-based lawsuit isn’t worth it. Ditto for getting rid of a bad employee once you have them; even though many (all?) states are employment-at-will, where both the employer and employee have to right to terminate employment at any time, for any stated reason, as has already been pointed out, in the overly litigious society in which we live, it’s safer not to run the risk of an LGBT employee claiming bias in the termination.
Isn’t this the best of all possible worlds in which we live?
You have those same rights in California with Domestic Partnerships, for $33 in total filing fees.. See name for 411.
I would add that regardless of what the Prop 8 opponents say publicly, Gavin Newsome’s (in)famous “whether you like it or not” gloating at a rally in June when the original measure was found unconstitutional, did them in, in terms of the fence-sitters (roughly 45% of the electorate had already made up their minds to vote for it, when it first was announced, regardless of whatever perceived effect that the late LDS money push had).
Click name for audio of the Newsom gaffe…
The point is, for many on the “no on 8″ side, it *is* about “just being able to do it”. Newsom made the cardinal error of revealing that goal in that little speech of his. They tried to tell us for years, that it was just about being able to do what you said: end-of-life medical decisions, visitation, probate and estate rights, and so on. So they got that with Domestic Partnerships. But it wasn’t enough, because — you guessed it — that’s not the real agenda.
And you wonder why otherwise rational individuals vote against them…
–sigh– well, America was good while it lasted. So long ‘negative liberties’.
Wow you guys are morose. Traditionally, democrats have been more for civil liberties than republicans. What liberties do you think you’ll be losing? I think we’ll get some back that Bush took away!
“Tax cuts for those earning under $250k!”
6 weeks later…
“Tax cuts for those earning under 200k!”
Rinse. Lather. Repeat.
“Tax cuts for those earning under 150k!”
Rinse. Lather. Repeat.
“Tax cuts for those earning under 125k!”
It was great when it started, but I no longer get tax cuts. (I earn about 130k)
Sources: New York Times, Obama’s campaign archives
Taxes are not civil liberties. Answer the question or post elsewhere (ie. not in this post nest)
I know that, I was responding to the one who brought it up. Also, since the picture is of the constitution, the entire tax discussion could be considered out of place and the liberties one more appropriate. Lighten up.
I will be attending medical school, and Obama likes me, while I am still a student. But once I get out, I become one of those people who crossed his arbitrary line of income that defines who is actually working and who just siphons off others
No, you become one who can afford to pay a slightly larger share.
Eventually, anyway. First you will be a barely-paid resident. Then after those years are done, you will maybe get to the ranks of folks who make enough money that you are asked to help the country a little more than those who are just scraping by.
Heh. I’m attending dental school, and it’s funny to me to hear how much my fellow classmates are worried about their financial futures (the majority of my class voted McCain)
In my eyes at least, from the way i was brought up and the way I see the world, my slice of the pie is quite large enough that I can definitely afford to share some.
The average dental student when they graduate starts off at about $120k I think, and that’s more than enough for me. Granted, I’m not married and I don’t have kids (and don’t plan on it anytime soon) but somehow I think it will be very easy to live comfortably on that even with Obama’s tax plan.
I’m not in Medical school yet, But it isn’t really my financial future I am worried about. Ill be fine no matter what, I am a man of simplicity. Accuse me of lying all you want, but under a socialized health system, I would not be able to give my patients the very best of care because of an overcrowded system.
Because primary health care is soooo bad in Sweden and the UK and Canada. Because Obama has said that he is going to make everyone choose to have government provided health care and there will be no private options to those who want it. And I’d like to see a doctor that would like to provide the best care to all who need it, not just to those he can provide for.
Ha that reminds me of a conversation i had with my father about the economic crisis and my financial future. He replied very simply “you’re an english major” which was oddly comforting. why worry about losing money i never would have anyway >.>
Not that I disagree with taxes. It’s not like i’m living on a dirt floor rasing animals for my food.
Yes, of course, because your personal tax dollars will be coming directly to me, and not going for anything useful like infrastructure or defense or paying off Bush’s humongous debts.
What IS it with the tax whiners? I’ve never seen so many people cry so loud when they weren’t even hurt.
*hands you invoice*
Here is your bill, as you can see it notes your usage of…
Police
Fire Department
Schools
Possibly Grants and Scholarships
Roads
Postal Service
8 years of Bush policies and spending
Etc, etc, etc
All for the low, low cost of… Tax money. Grow up.
Using logic? It’s like pissing into the wind and hoping you get hit by something that hasn’t flash frozen
Oh good, here I thought it was just warm rain centered on my groin. @_@
You can take back your Grants and Scholarships, and apply that money to the damn roads instead!!! I’ll give you the post, because it’s still nice to be able to mail something across country for $0.41 (that’s still what it is, right?)
As for schools, and fire, and police — that is the domain of state and local authorities (this presuming you mean that invoice is my federal tax bill).
Bush didn’t spend money, the President has no power of appropriations — that is reserved for the Congress, who have done a bang-up job of mortgaging us into oblivion. There are 538 individuals (more, considering turnover and those voted out) who are responsible for that 8 years of spending.
FairTax FTW. See link in name if interested.
Don’t worry, Matthew, according to the Republicans, by the time you get out of medical school Obama may have “socialized” medicine and you won’t make anywhere near $250K…
I have been in the Social Work Field for fifteen years…if you need advice on how to make due with being underpaid I can give you all the advice you need.
Well I wont be anywhere close to that either. But my fiance, who also will be attending medical school, may push us over that mark. I really find it extremely ignorant and insulting that you insinuate that I am only going into medicine for monetary reasons. I legitimately want to help people, and seeing as how I know biology and human anatomy pretty well, and the sight of blood doesn’t bother me, it is the best way to go. Right now, I am finishing my training as an EMT so i can have a job to pay my way through school.
I wasn’t insinuating that at all, my friend. Nor was I questioning your motives to go into medical school. However, it is a pretty well-known fact that Doctors tend to make a decent living…and it seemed from your post that you were concerned about the “arbitratry” income line that you might cross. I simply offered my services in learning how to get by on a low-income.
However, based on your assumptions of what my posts intentions were, might I suggest getting into the pharmaceutical industry and self medicating for your slight self-image complex about how others might view you going into medical school?
I was rather wondering about how quick he was to retort about his motives.
If your obsession with not paying taxes may have led someone to think you were all about the money, whose fault is that? Except, of course, that no one stated that they thought that, but false outrage is the right’s stock in trade, so I’m not surprised you came out with that.
Single payer is the goal, not socialized medicine. it’s not the same. Socialized medicine is what they have in the military, and it sucks. All the doctors, nurses, dentists, pharmacists are employed by the military and you can’t choose your own doctor. There’s no option to go for a second opinion, etc. Everything is part of the same system.
Single payer provides uniform health coverage for everyone, regardless of employment, economic status, home region, etc. It still allows competition among hospitals and doctors, pharmacy, etc. Doctors are still free to provide the care they see as best for the patient, rather than what fits in the budget. Patients can still choose their medical providers. All it means is that everybody has access to an insurance program to help defray the costs.
Sad that I explained this in another lol…
Today?
Well I should take that back, I already explained the need of the middle class which was another point you made today. My brain is full of fail but I did explain something worth explaining today in another lol, dammit.
I think I might take that vacation I have been pondering, I will know by the end of the day I guess. Just tired of the same argument over and over again.
Oh well, we’re back over on the second page now, so nobody will read my explanation anymore anyway.
–I wish I could afford a vacation. I’ve been married 5 years and still haven’t had a vacation with my husband. We’re hoping maybe if we get a decent tax refund… Probably will be less than last year’s though.
*Troll alert*
I know med students. I have several friends in Med school. My best friend is married to a doctor. Several of my family members are doctors. You sir, are not a med student. Know how I know? You’re posting on Pundit Kitchen.
Med students don’t have time to fiddle around with arbitrary bullshit. A med student’s idea of free time is a sip of a glass of wine before they go back to studying. Or a 5-minute coffee break between their residency and their homework.
If you have time to sit around and comment on PK, God help anyone that gets medical attention from you…
Maybe doctors like him are the reason I have to wait in a room for three hours to get a five minute conversation that answers nothing but costs me about four hundred dollars…
Personal insults do not prove your point. You simply make yourself look like an ass….well not really, you are apart of a majority here, so no matter what I say, it will be considered stupid
Well, so far you’re heading that way. One of the reasons a foreign devil like me loves this post is that even though views get routinely and vehemently jumped-on, people themselves are generally respected. Unless, of course, they sound like whiney, world-owes-me-big-time lads who pine for the days when Daddy still owned the plantation…
From what I’ve seen so far on PK, your views will be considered – stupid or not. What happens after they get considered…
I’m not there YET. and a couple seconds out of the day to respond here, isn’t all that much
If you really want to avoid that arbitrary line of taxes, go into family practice. It is the specialists who make the big bucks. And we so despirately need more GPs, not more specialists!!
The middle class does not just “siphon off others.” Why is there always such disdain for the middle class? They form the foundation of the economy that allows you to climb to something else.
Doan, relax!

It haf alwayf been tax decreafe under $200K, no change for $200K to $250K, and flight increafe for $250K+. It’f no more than you paid under Clinton. Go to Obama’f webfite, type in your $130K, and fee what your taxef will be. BTW, the $150K waf a Joe Biden mifffpeak, not part of NYT or “campaign archivef”. Your fourcef are not correct. The Republicanf were juft trying to fcare votef out of people, but it’f over now, k?

I… have created a MONFTER!!
I’d blame his mother, but then that’s me…

Haunting you…Faw what you did in Fhower…EWWWW! No wait, rather: BOOOO! (Ftill getting the hang of thif ghofting bufineff.)
I fee you have been reincarnated. Ghofting not paying the billf?
They kicked me out for stalking St. Peter. He’s a hottie, but, as it turns out, gay. Anyway, I’m not allowed to use the “f” language anymore, and I have to vote Libertarian in 2010. Otherwise, it’s the big fire pit! Oh noes!!
Gawd, it’s hell they kicked you into! *ducks from the Libertarian tomato-tossers*
Wow–there’s a lot of ragin’ higher up on this page. Just think: If everybody had to use the “f” language, they would have spent a lot more time larfing, like we did. I did learn some cool stuff, tho… *drools at memory of St. Peter*
If everybody took the time to think things through we’d have not near so many rofls. And if you keep drooling you’ll get a chapped chin and that would make teh laffs hurtie.
*pulls bangs over eyes* Love hurts, dood!
…by “dood,” I didn’t mean you specifically, of course.
I’ve never bee fo eckfited finking about Happy Mealf for the longeft time…
Wrong.
In the 1950’s the predominantly democratic south enacted the Jim Crow laws which were the exact opposite of civil liberties. The first republican president (Abraham Lincoln) freed the slaves.
And what liberties has bush taken away? If anything, the ones who support him have their liberties taken away. If i express conservative viewpoints I am immediately shut down. Now I wait for you to tell me how stupid and ignorant I am and just prove my point even more.
You support the Patriot act, then?
If you have nothing to hide why worry about it?
You like taking your shoes off at the airport?
OoOoOoO that is such a hassle.
Moving the goalposts, are we? The issue as stated in your original post was whether liberties were taken away, not a continuum of which liberties were inconvenient to lose. Grunt provided a factually accurate example.
I’m not sure that air travel is a basic and inalienable human right…
Everyone has something to hide, and very little of it is the govenment’s business. Everyone is entitled to have things off the record, as long as they aren’t criminal.
When Jim McDermott broadcast Newt Gingrich’s phone call to the world, the Republicans all had their panties in a bunch over how wrong that was. When someone hacked Palin’s email, they were all up in arms. But invade someone else’s privacy? That’s fine.
The patriot act is designed to find terrorists etc. The examples you cited were simply mudslinging tactics
It doesn’t seem to read that way…
The Patriot Act is a great piece of Orwellian nameing – ‘The Patriot Act’ deals with Traitors and Terrorists, while affecting people who are neither.
The name is designed to make it unassailable, since simply to question it places the questioner’s patriotism in question.
Yes, that’s exactly the point. Once the information gathering apparatus is in place, nothing guarantees that it will be used strictly for its intended purpose. Information gathered for the express purpose of finding terrorists, as you state, can be used for mudslinging, embarrassing someone publicly simply because you don’t like him or don’t agree with his politics, etc. That’s the whole problem with it, or one of the major problems with it, anyway.
Exactly. Matthew doesn’t want to trust the government with the money they need for infrastructure via his taxes, but he’s perfectly comfortable trusting them with his private phone calls and his computer records? I don’t think he would be so happy with that in practice.
Putting words in my mouth now? I am against disproportionate taxes both ways. And it is really naive of Obama to believe that Taxing large corporations more will not result in them simply charging the consumer more to make up for that.
Actually it’s not putting words into your mouth… simply applying logic to what you’ve said. Suck it up, foetus.
Nor will taxing them less result in lower costs or them moving operations overseas to save even more money… Then again, I could just point you to Oil Company profits in this time of shortage and tell you that you aren’t thinking it all the way through.
Oil profits are up because oil costs are up. For those oil companies that drill their own, they are making a wholesale killing. For gasoline, it’s a percentage on top of costs, and passed along to us.
Wasn’t there just some flack about monitored calls being passed around the NSA?
That was TAIRUST phone sex–totally appropriate!
Phone sex is always appropriate – just clean the receiver when you’re done, ew.
*drum beats* *cymbal crash*
My wife looked over my shoulder and whispered “Phone-feckf?” Damn well nearly died. pdq’s getting the blame for my next stroke.
Please don’t stroke out! It’s late here, and, besides, I wouldn’t know whether to call a hoomin doctor or a vet. Until pdq ran amok with it, the reference to phone sex was political in nature:

I don’t yet know how to blame this on DeathWormNexus, but his work is evident here. DWN is responsible for most conversations winding up … in bed.
Ah, that canard… the amount of data that they can gather on you with no recourse to checks and balance simply increases the chances of someone screwing up your data. Sooner or later, someone with ‘nothing to hide’ will end up as a person of interest without getting of his couch.
However, if you like the Govt being able to rifle through your personal life like Hoover, then why don’t you publish your whole detail on the internet. After all if you have nothing to hide, it should be no problem….
I think that Matthew Fitzhenry would be better served by the monika ‘Joe McCarthy’
Now, now, Uncle! His initials are “M.F.” Use your head for more than a light socket!
But you must admit, it adds to my creepy ooky-ness
Aha! The light dawnf… wait, that’s Fefter.
DAMN YOU. I had been called that since junior high.
But really, personal insults to refute my point? this site just sinks lower and lower every day.
Just a little joke, there. If you haven’t noticed, this site is not all about serious. If you want an argument, try looking up the history of political parties, and see how the parties mutated since Lincoln’s time. Others have addressed your lack of understanding of what Constitutional rights have been infringed upon during the Bush administration. They have made good points, and I have nothing to add.
.
I forgive you for damning me. Your spirit needs to heal.
And everyone knows that MF is your real name, that you’ve been teased about it since you were that big. Of course, we’re all mind readers and the only excerise around here is to insult. Dahlink, go relax a little somewhere and come back when your funny bone ain’t in such a twist.
I didn’t give a rat’s ass what he was called in real world…
but I’m an equal opportunity bigot and borderline psychopath.
In bed, with croutons.

Oh god, not the croutons! Jeez, something less itchy and crunchy. Let’s go back to the avacados.
or Mister Tumnus’ tongue…
Now this conversation has gotten Naaaaaaaugthy.
I actually have less to fear about the government e-stalking me than I do a PI. Reason: look no further than Katrina. If that’s how this government operates, I have no fear.
*moves another block of cash to the Caymans*
minerva was talking more recent traditions.
In the past 50 years, Democrats slowly became the liberal party, Republicans became the conservative party.
The political landscape of the 50s has little to do with the present, and civil war era even less so.
By definition, liberals support liberties.
I don’t know… the gay abandon people throw around the word’s ‘Socialist’, ‘Communist’ and ‘Marxist’ is pure 1950’s shtick.
GAHH! no edit… pardon the misplaced single quote.
SRSLY? You worry about one scrawny single quote, but leave it WIDE OPEN for someone to JUMP ON “gay abandon?” I thought I raised you better than that!

Where did I go wrong? … Why? … Why?
I’m subscribe to the Parker ‘if you can’t serve as a shining example, you best be a terrible warning’ paraphrased truism

Kinda the same way that the word “hate” is now wantonly tossed about…
Guantamo Bay: because according to Bush, not all men are created equal, and only Americans have the right to a fair trial, and not even all of those.
I’m not sure that hebeas corpus applies to Americans any more… I’d have to re-read the Patriot Act.
Have you heard the rumor that Obama’s people are already working on the Gitmo crap? I’m SO GLAD he’s in! (Well almost in, that is.)
What rumour? It was one of his campaign promises…geez, get with the times grrl!
Oh, and by the way – we have the right to tell you that you are stupid and ignorant. That is our first amendment in action. It does not protect you from criticism, only from government censorship. Try actually reading the constitution some time….
Except that the constitution explicitly states that it only deals with the rights of US citizens, not foreign combatants. Please try actually reading the constitution sometime.
D’oh.
FAIL.
Please provide a cite for this “explicit state[ment]” of which you speak. The Constitution only mentions “citizen” in regard to requirements to be a representative, senator, or president, or also when referring to citizens of a particular state.
Where does the Constitution “explicitly state” that it only applies to citizens?
Great… Imprisonment without legal representation, no Habeas corpus, tortues available… Gotta love that banana republic chic from the world’s last superpower.
OH! Banana Republic! I found a merino wool sweater by BR at Good Will on Friday and wore it to church on Sunday! It only cost $3.00!!!
Carry on.
Wait a minute. How are you “immediately shut down”? Your post is right there! There is no silencing here! I am well within my rights to call you a right-wing nutjob. That is not in any way shutting you down, since you are free to call me a commie librul. See, that’s how the First Amendment works.
Max, your nose is needed.
in bed?
He’s ’shut down’ by being pwned
…in bed, in horsey jammies.
Warrantless wiretapping?
Habeas corpus?
Oh. My. God. Nobody is taking your rights away by disagreeing with you, or even calling you an idiot. The fact that you think we should be restricted from doing so proves how you really feel about human rights.
Funny thing about people that want to take away our right to privacy because if we’re not doing anything wrong we have nothing to complain about. They are usually the first people to cry like babies when they think their own rights are being taken away. What I want to know is why MF gets to decide which rights are acceptable to keep and which ones are okay the throw out. Probably all those rights he’s not personally using.
Well my right to privacy(which isn’t listed in the Constitution by the way) isn’t really a concern. Don’t break the law, you have nothing to worry about. I do not break the law, therefore, I have nothing to worry about.
As for the Rights I don’t use but would be glad to get rid of? None. I am straight, so gay rights don;t really affect me. But I am in a group at Texas A&M called “Aggie Allies” a group of straight people that will defend the GLBT group on campus because No-one should be discriminated against. It doesn’t mean they should be granted special treatment, just not put down.
My point in addressing my free speech being taken away(i really don’t actually believe that, I can say whatever I want, and so can you) was to prove that those screaming for extended civil rights will try to shut down anyone who disagrees with them.
Tell someone you think they’re stupid, while maybe not very helpful, is not an attempt to “shut you down”. You are NOT being censored so your rights are NOT being trampled on. To claim they are for no other reason then to make a point is irresponsible.
-
Futhermore, I DON’T break the laws but that doesn’t give the government the right to listen in on MY private conversations. I used to perform at local events with an amateur dance troupe. We did Middle Eastern dance and I did a lot of searches on Arab names in case my troupe leader wanted us to start using stage names. In your world where the government is only looking for terrorists would my search for a middle eastern name set off red flags? Do they even have the right? No, there may not be a right to privacy in the constitution, but we do have laws on how we gather evidence and what would be admissible in court and we can’t throw those out just because someone *might* be a terrorist.
And if someone else named Matthew Fitzhenry (or FitzSimmons or FitzGerald) commits a crime that might be considered as aiding or abetting terrorism (like conducting business with someone in Syria), then heaven help you because DHS sure won’t. TSA’s no-fly list has hundreds of thousands of false positives resulting from their adding names that ’sound like’ known terrorists. Bea Arthur was on the list, fer Pete’s sake. Watch Terry Gilliam’s ‘Brazil’ and get back to us.
Siiiiiigh. Again with the people who don’t know their history.
OK. Southern Democrats, a.k.a. Dixiecrats? Became Democrats during Reconstruction. Fine. Made the Democratic party suck for a long while, fine.
Flash forward to LBJ – the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act, signed into law by a Texas Democrat.
Whereupon the Dixiecrats rise as one and LEAVE the Democratic Party, dramatically decreasing the net suck of the party. They go on to become the core constituency of the Republican Party, causing the largest net suck increase in that body in recorded history.
Summary: The Republicans of the right now ARE, in every pertinent respect, the Southern Democrats of the Jim Crow era.
Summary of the summary: You fail.
“Flash forward to LBJ – the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act, signed into law by a Texas Democrat.”
Pushed for, and passed, by Republicans, by a huge majority. See name for link.
Funny that some of the top names in Southern Democrats (Gore, Robert “KKK” Byrd), remain democrats to this day.
So, your point?
JB, which “negative libertief” are you defperately afraid of lofing?
I’m actually surprised at the content of this thread. Normally stuff in here is drivel that could have been written by 14 year olds who listen to too much MCR.
Yeah, I agree with one of the first posters completely: be consistent. Liberals usually ignore the parts of the constitution they don’t agree with, specifically in their selective application of the first amendment and their complete disregard for the second. But somehow Abortion is in there, lol.
We’ll see how our new President really feels about freedom and liberty.
I find that Conservatives are pretty much the same… Long on the majority wanting to locally legislate other folks morality, while not paying for anything.
TBH, both sides underwhelm me…

you old romantic
I saw a movie like that once. No wait, I didn’t. Sounds interesting though.

Her mentioning of a Great Dane in a porno thread sounds like a quirk on the phrase Doggie Style.
could have been worse… you could have been IN a movie like that.
A bit like how the NRA always sweeps the words “Well regulated” under the rug, and how proponents of Political Christianity want to butcher the constitution because they’re uncomfortable with the fact it supports gay marriage.
‘Well Regulated’
You pinko!
“it supports gay marriage.”
I doubt you can show me where this support exists.
Calling M.F. or L&C a foreign combatant? L&C’s prose was clear, B. Yours isn’t.

what?!?
“Every man holds his proprty subject ot the general right of the community to regulate its use to whatever degree the public welfare may require it.”
“It is not unreasonable that the rich should contribute to the public exspense not only in proportion to their revenue, but rather more in that proportion.”
Who are those quotes from? Marx? Engels? Lenin? Trotsky? Che Guevera?
No.
The first is from Teddy Roosevelt. The second is from Adam Smith.
‘Nuff said.
“… Teddy Roosevelt…Adam Smith…”
Marxists and Socialists to a man.
I do hold TR responsible for the mess in the Middle East
Actually, it was his grandnephew Kermit. He’s the one that got the Shah Reza Pahlavi into power in Iran. You wanna blame somebody, blame him.
Thanks, I’ll remember that…
Actually, you can start with the Catholic church…..Childrens Crusade….Really?
Not just for giggles, now it’s for straight up laughs? Like ANYONE in government even remotely adheres to the constitution as it was written. *insert eyeroll here*
You’re so right, now it’s just for the shitzzz

Thank you for this beautiful LOL.
Why do people think this is the constitution??? This is not the constitution. Apparently I can pull out any picture of an old document and people will think it’s the constitution, and then argue about it. This is just an act of Congress. FAIL
Probably because it’s the Bill of Rights, which, last I checked, is still part of the Constitution.
Fail much?
Oh, please… the libs have been using the Constitution as toilet paper since FDR. The GOP has ALWAYS stayed within the literal reading of the document, and not some new age re-interpretation.
now, those radicals will begin the whiney BS. get a life, huh?
