This just brought a tear to my eye.

    • Love says:

This made me teary-eyed as well. I lost my mom when I was 21 so she has missed a lot of milestones in my life as well as my [younger] brothers and sisters. Interracial also I sympathize and respect the struggles she endured to raise her son so well. So sad that his grandmother passed away the day before the election.

      • Sarah of Philadelphia says:

Honey, when I heard his Grandmother was sick I was actually worried it was a Florida PR trick. Dang, don’t I feel like crap?

You know, when I read he was in the poll booth for 10 minutes – I could only think that he was in there trying to hold it together for the cameras. “If only Mom and Grandma could see me know…”

For all our Grandmas in heaven, and for Grandmas everywhere:

        Peace

    • The dude isn’t even an American Citizen!!!

AND he’s more White and Arab than Black!

He’s more “manufactured” than a Disney Boy Band!

He’s isn’t much more than a Infomercial type Product that you all bought for $19.95! Wait till you find out it doesn’t perform as advertised! HA HA HA! fools

      • Love says:

What a hateful angry person you are.

Hawaii admitted to the USA: August 21, 1959
Barack born in Honolulu, Hawaii: August 4, 1961

His mother, Dr. Dunham, was born in Kansas and has Cherokee, English and Irish heritage from her parents.
His father, B.H.O. Sr, was born in Kenya.

Before you begin on the Muslim and socialist fallacies…
His father was born a Muslim but converted to atheist while attending the university where he met Dr.Dunham. He also authored a paper titled “Problems Facing Our Socialism”.

Neither of those make President-elect Obama a Muslim or socialist. He most certainly isn’t Arab.

But even if he was Muslim and/or Arab… when were either of those outlawed in this country? The United States was founded in part for freedom of religion and no one gets to choose the ethnicity (or color) they are born with.

        • PAY ATTENTION! I said Nothing about his religious or political leanings.

I Just Said: he ain’t “black”, what’s so bad about that? I ain’t “black” nether!

          i didn’t say sh!t about socialism at all…

a lil’ over sensitive & paranoid are we?

          • chimmeychango says:

wow, way to spread that love to mankind. im assuming you are mormon, as your your name is a direct link to a mormon sight… how can you be down with jesus, and be an internet troll. by the way, evolution is real, and judging from the poison spilling forth from you know, you only enable bad memes.

          • raije says:

            RECAP: Kenya.

The world isn’t ending. Not today at least.

          • Bee says:

Can’t you at least show respect for an elderly woman who has just passed away and missed her grandson (who she raised) being elected President of the USA?

If you supported John McCain, you should listen to his words after she died, and also his gracious, mature and eloquent concession speech.

          • Felix says:

I guess you’re using your spare five minutes between impregnating one of your 14-year-old wives to get online and spew your bizarre and irrelevant opinions about our new president elect. Waa waa waa, you lost, get over it. And you can have Romney back. He sucked and we never wanted him.

            • Watching, Waiting says:

Please, don’t try to fix ignorance and hate with more ignorance and hate. Mormons do not have multiple wives. Fundamentalist Mormons, yes, but not most Mormons. and Don’t go hating on me for defending Mormons. I’m not one, I just don’t like to see people bash other people’s religion.

          • risa says:

according to the great men that founded this country, 1/8 of Black blood
makes you Black. Sooo…with his father being from Kenya-which is not
Arab at all, and his mother is white, then yes-when he is racially
            categorized, he is BLACK

            read a book or something
ignorance really does nothing for you

          • Love says:

You pay attention… you’re talking crazy and if you read I prefaced the religious leanings with “Before you begin on the Muslim and socialist fallacies…”
Pay attention to yourself, you did not say “he ain’t black” you said, “he’s more White and Arab than Black”.
It is bad enough to speak cruelly, but even more foolish to misquote yourself.

          • hater patrol says:

why is their hate. it does not matter the color of his skin. but just to let you know his father was BLACK and when you have a BLACK father you are BLACK as you know BLACK is the dominant gene!!! But “OUR PRESIDENT” is not worried about none of our color much less his color. What he is worried about is what BUSH f***** up and how he is going to fix it. So stop the hate and congratulate!!! Because in my eyes and the almighty we are all the SAME. THINK ABOUT IT , WHEN YOU GO TO HEAVEN OR HELL YOU THINK THEY ARE WORRIED ABOUT YOUR COLOR… I THINKS NOT!!!

          • Jane St.Clair says:

Troll on aisle 7, we’ve got a troll on aisle 7! Froofrou go get the stick!

          • Alice_D says:

Well I didn’t say “you ain’t retarded” but we all know what I meant, now didn’t we.

        • WWWWW says:

Great post. This is the “attitude” of America, but the reality is that we have a long way to go to actually be the country we like to advertise that we are. Some of the comments here and in my workplace in the last few weeks, especially yesterday and today, make me ashamed to be a human being, because I share so much with them.

What a world it would be if we were judged on our merit as a person, and not on so many countless other things. Maybe someday.

        • Ivy Shoots says:

Don’t bother repeating hard facts to haters. We will bring them kicking and screaming into a brighter future, and don’t expect any thanks.
They don’t vote their own self-interests and they believe the snake oil salesmen who peddle fear and anger. Keep answering the hate and fear with hope and love.

        • JeffM says:

You never actually addressed how he wants to make big government bigger and how it will soon be in every part of our lives (ha, like it isn’t now) because of
him and the rest of the establishment. Democracy always leads people to
bigger governments, and he’s not changing his very socialist views on
everything from censorship to universal health care. But we will look
better in the eyes of the world, that at least I am happy about.

        • Aliza says:

          EXCELLENT response Love!!!

        • divamobile says:

Even if her were Muslim, there is nothing wrong with being Muslim. My ex-husband is Muslim, although being from Morocco, he is a wonderful man. Our son, Mohammed II, is Arab-American, and being brought up learning about Catholocism as well as Muslim beliefs so that he can make his own educted decision when he is old enough and knows enough to do so.

Sorry to go off but I get the feeling that some people have their minds made up before they know all the facts. Let me tell you something. What got me about this whole election was that people were ready to throw Obama out and threaten to kill a man because they “thought” he was Muslim, and because he maybe “used” to be Muslim and because he “came from” a Muslim back ground. When 9/11 happened, my son was 14 days old. When we walked out of the house, because of his name, people wanted to kill him. We were taunted in the streets and received death threats daily. A 14 day old baby. Just because of a name and because of a religious affiliation.

Isn’t that exactly what has been done to Barack Obama? Sorry to type so frantically. Just reading to the comments throughout the pictures I this particualr one had finally got me. If I said something that maybe got someones attention, great. If not, then you know you will never have to read this again.

          Thank you for your time.

      • sally says:

        I’m so sad you exist…

      • Seth says:

Did you guys hear something? Kind of a sad, quiet whining noise, like maybe a hurt puppy hiding under the porch? We should do something, it sounds like it’s in pain. Wait, look, it’s a rabid squirrel. Now that’s unfortunate, you know, rabies is incurable. We’re gonna have to put the poor lil’ guy out of his misery. I know, nobody WANTS to, but he’s likely to lash out in pain and confusion and hurt others. Don’t worry little fella, it’ll all be over soon…

      • Trix says:

        Cry moar, troll.

      • lol@McCain says:

LOL @ retarded inbred McCain supporters.
        Hail PRESIDENT Obama!

      • Wally says:

Do you even know what an Arab is you idiot? It certainly doesn’t come from being descended from a guy from Kenya.

Get a map. Get a clue.

Or go find a cave to hide in like your mirror-image hatemongers, al-Qaeda.

      • Er I Guess... says:

LOL Obama’s not an American citizen?

Hmmm…good thing that some random person on the internet was able to catch that, since Washington didn’t. I’m SURE they’ll be announcing McCain’s win by default any second now. Good job, Mr. Holmes!

As for him being “Arab”, he is half caucasian and half African. He attended school in Indonesia in his childhood…you are apparently confused.

As for manufactured, I dunno, he looks pretty lifelike to me.

I wish we could all be as on the ball as Skwearly Bob. (BTW…is that supposed to spell “Squirrely”, or is than an attempt at irony to point out the fact that you’re ignorant?)

        • KIC says:

You know what always makes me laugh about the birth certificate whackos….they seem to really think that an 18 year old girl in 1961 actually knew so much of the future that when she had her baby in Kenya (yea, and there being no mention of her EVER having gone there not withstanding) she RUSHED back to the U.S. and somehow managed to get the Hawaiin government to forge a birth certificate because she just knew that someday he’d run for president. I mean, as conspiracy theories go, it’s the least plausible scenario I’ve ever seen put forward.

      • omega says:

ok Seriously ur a complete dickhead. the man won fair and square and even some people who supported Mcain are ok with it. So please who ever this guy is and people who think like plz plz go find ur closet armory buy a gun and kill ur self for being so dam blind arrogant. also im happy that obama won and i feel sorry his mom wasnt there to see it but i think she is happy and proud.

      • Sarah of Philadelphia says:

May a million rabid squirrels find you, climb up your pant legs, and bite your privates,
May bats scratch out your eyes,
May the Tiki Gods rain Lava upon your home,
May a million wild wolves come and crap in your yard,
And may your fingers shrivel and fall off so that you can NEVER EVER type such disgusting, xenophobic hateful filth again.
        – You disgust me and make me ashamed.

        • Pat in Washington state says:

Sarah, well said, very well said. Don’t be ashamed – you are a human being and Skwearlly Bob is not. He gives trolls a bad name.

      • cherie says:

        yyeah yeah yeah.
and im sureeeeee McCain wld had been a greeeeeat president with a greeeeeeeeeeeat VP

      • ColbyWolf says:

I’ve never said this before.. but I think it’s appropriate here:

Please, go die in a fire.

We get you’re pissed your candidate lost. So is half the country. But there’s no reason to say something like this on a post that is trying to be serious, thoughtful, and touching. (and succeeds.)

Your facts are wrong, your racism is showing, and so is your hate.

People like you, posting here, like this, give your candidate a bad name.

Please don’t go to any funerals. The rest of the attendees won’t appreciate what you have to say (not even if they’re your family, and probably especially then), and everyone will be happier with you not there.

        • John says:

oooh! “Please, go die in a fire” sounds like a low budget Japanese movie.
          The creators of :
          “You’re hate doesn’t show”
          and
          “Irony Fail”

      • Keli Kiana says:

Hawaii is part of the United States AND he was born in Hawaii.
He is 50% white & 50% black (Kenya is in Africa!)
Obama is a brilliant, intelligent man and all of his own skills and hard work.
        AND YOU ARE A FOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • gnn1 says:

you know, I got an email about the citizenship thing, and the only reply I have is, IF it were TRUE, I suspect McCain would have filed an injunction against him LONG ago, dummkopf

        • Meredith says:

Besides, McCain was born in the Panama Canal Zone. If you’re going to contest Obama’s citizenship based on where he was born, you have to do the same for McCain.

      • kaylee says:

        OMG aren’t crazy trolls entertaining??

I can haz a brain nao? thx bai.

      • Calaba says:

Dear Idiot – Hawaii is part of the united states. And let’s clear up the “manufactured”. That would be more Palin, with her 13,000 pr time makeup
artist and designer clothing to make her look somewhat appealing. Oh and
Mccain was born outside the states. You racist idiots don’t get it. This
country was founded that we are ALL equal, ALL the same. President Elect
Obama will be the leader we need. He is a GOOD man and nothing you say
or do or write is going to change that.

      • Sick of Bigots says:

Seriously, Mr. “Skwearlly Bob”? You are what is wrong with this country.

And all this time, I thought it was George W. Bush.

      • Red Cat says:

He’s actually not Arab at all – his father was African, his mother American. Therefore he is bi-racial and could legitimately call himself African American.

Where did the whole Arab thing come from?? East Africa is not in (or even close to) the Middle East.

Perhaps you have confused Muslim with Arab – they are not the same thing!!

      • Josh says:

You’re a complete a**hole. I only wish bad things for you.

      • courtney says:

bob- you’re a racist, ignorant ass. 1st- what difference does it make what nationality is in his background? and 2nd- he actually IS an American citizen b/c he was born here. You can’t be president and not be a citizen. Grow up, read a newspaper, and get a life.

      • Sam says:

You are so full of hate and cynicism your life must reflect that.

I do not wish to live in your world. Your world is trajic. There IS magic in the world. You just saw it. You are too blind to be aware of the miracles happening all around you.

Spite, hate, racism. These are the words that best describe the life you lead. How sad.

Hug someone. Open your heart. Be glad to be alive! Your time on earth is short.

      • You can always count on the neo cons for some good ol fashion family value type spewing~

      • Steve Newton says:

And therefor he has no right to mourn his grandmother?

      • seeker212121 says:

It is for you and people that think like you, that I fervently wish for karma and re-incarnation to be a reality. Then those of your mind(less)set could come back as the embodiment of all the things you hold prejudice against. Think of it….
a Democratic, uneducated, poor, jobless, Muslim, black, 400lb. lesbian woman.
        AHHH!!! Cosmic justice! SCHWEET!!!XDXDXD

      • Hannah Belle Lectre says:

        You fail.

      • pay-lay-ale says:

Wow, and his citizenship slipped right past the people who vetted Sarah Palin? I don’t believe it.

But if you can look right at a guy and say he’s not Black, then I commend you on your post-race politics. You’re the shining beacon, alright.

Don’t worry, when he dies, you can baptise him LDS.

      • Bob says:

This man is one of the people, he lived their struggles, tried to help, he never gave up. this is what we want for the world, it doesn’t matter where is he from, or his, race, gender, religion…. What does matter is his humanitarian side, his motive to solve problems that you suffer from them more than anybody else, one of these problems is limited and enchained minds that needs to be cured.

    • Mcface says:

      wtf
this did not make me LOL.
      why is this on here.

      • Sarah of Philadelphia says:

Dey sez laffin an cryin iz vrry similur, akktuly.
I cry AN I be laffin,
        – all in 1 big cebulashun.

Iz gud. Iz bad. Iz gud…

    • peaceloverespect says:

I was teary eyed the entire election night and when I saw this it happened again. Despite the hate I still see over him being elected I’m still hopeful he can convince people to set aside petty and ignorant hate. I know she is proud of him – we all are

    • Heather Mac says:

It made me tear up too.

    • True that says:

      Mine too, beautiful sentiment :)

    • Sky says:

      A. Whoever captioned this pic, kudos-well done.
      B. to all the morons who replied to this caption negatively-I hope you find out G-d is a big black man before he kicks your ass down to Hell, where you can burn with the other racists and bigots.
      C. Have a nice colorful day!

    • Sky says:

A.To Barmca, you wonderful woman who captioned this pic, kudos-well done.
      B. to all the morons who replied to this caption negatively-I hope you find out G-d is a big black man before he kicks your ass down to Hell, where you can burn with the other racists and bigots.

    • Katie says:

      Me too.

  2. sunset says:

    Awww…

  3. lora_vine says:

    all Class…

  4. lollin' says:

yes we can! yes we did! yes we will! :) :) :)

  5. kervin says:

this is so stupid. not funny or clever

    • astroghoti says:

You’re just a sad, sorry human being, aren’t you?

      • Humongous Great Sausage says:

Uh, who is the woman hugging Micheal Jackson?

Why is it relevant, why should I care, why are you all so f’ing weird?

        • inked_hippie says:

Uh that’s Obama with his grandmother…you know, the one who died the night before the election?

          jerk

        • ED says:

Amazing that you don’t even bother to read the newspapers, watch the news or at least do a simple Google search, where have you been in the last 2 years??? hidden under a rock? in the Kilimanjaro?.

The woman is Madelyn Dunham and the man is Barack Obama, Madelyn Dunham is Barack’s Grandmother (the mother of his mother)she raised him since he was 10 years old with her husband, Madelyn Dunham was a mother to Barack Obama, she was the one responsible that Barack Obama is the man that is today… that is why she is relevant.

Also if you weren’t an ignorant fool you would know that she had cancer and died the day after the election…Please as hard as it may be for a idiot like you could you at least try to show some respect to a person that’s no longer with us? you know like really try.

        • Yeee says:

Wow, that’s ALMOST as ignorant as calling every Asian celebrity Jackie Chan.

        • sunny says:

That’s Barack Obama’s grandmother. Hugging Obama, not Jackson. At least compare him to someone he actually LOOKS like.
It’s relevant because she died the day before the election and was like a mother to him.
You should care because he’s the new president and we should probably actually know something about our leaders.
And I wouldn’t be calling a bunch of caring and intelligent human beings “weird” while I try to make an incredibly lame and offensive joke under the alias “humongous great sausage.”

    • jerseygirl in GA says:

You have a selfish heart of stone.

    • Nenya says:

Bwuh, what? I don’t get it.

    • sunset says:

Not everything has to be funny or clever.
      I thought this was touching.

    • rav says:

      Stupid and gay, I agree

  6. Nenya says:

Awww. Yes, she does. At least I think and hope so. RIP, Toot.

  7. Koki Kariya says:

Wow, I’m not against Obama or anything but this is just plain maudlin. Bleck.

    • n8 says:

Yeah. But the sentiment is nice, even if you’re someone like me who believes there’s no guarantee of an after-life.

      • USA!USA! says:

That is interesting that you find it maudlin. Have you never
        lost a close family member?

        • n8 says:

I said the sentiment was nice. But if you really want to go there, of course I’ve experienced the death of a loved one. I just don’t let my own personal pain deceive me into believing something for which there’s no evidence, regardless of how seductively soothing that belief would be.

          • ColbyWolf says:

*interjects* But! Your personal belief says that there is no evidence.. however, Obama’s religious beliefs say otherwise… and as this post is “directed” to Obama (determined by usage of the word “you”–regardless of the fact that he’ll never read it), then it is relevant, because to him, theoretically, the promise of an afterlife or heaven is real. Evidence or not.

But, then again.. I think USA!USA!’s post was probably more directed to Kariya’s post–as they were the one initially using the phrase ‘maudlin’ and had a more… “negative” post then yours. Maybe they jsut clicked on the wrong ‘reply to comment’. who knows.

It is a very nice sentiment, though.

        • Koki Kariya says:

Yes I have. And it happens. I simply think this is boring. Maybe “Sympathy vote; ur doin it rite” or “Taking one for the team; ur doin it rite” or something would at least be worthy of lols. The internet is about complete unwarrented cruelty. And I voted for Obama, I just think this site is above this kind of humanity.

  8. Green Is Good says:

    Awww. That’s a weeper.

  9. rr says:

America is going to be sorry for voting osbama bin laden

  10. KaBooM says:

Wow. This was the worst caption ever.

  11. BellezaMisterios says:

Not what I was expecting on this site.
Usually, its funny things. But that made me tear up.

  12. amocksun says:

Soo, when the people running the site have a political agenda, captions neither have to be funny or clever? Apparently if the picture features Obama, the site becomes the Family Circus for a moment.

  13. Christine says:

    Aww..

  14. anonymous says:

Wow…just wow. I’m like choking up right now. My grandmother just died last summer, and looking at this just brings a tear in my eye.

  15. fxquant says:

Nice ‘fro on the furst Dude

    • Wally says:

The so-called “First Dude” got sent packing back to Alaska.

That’s your president. Show some class, if not respect.

  16. Megan says:

    *sniffle*

    Well done.

  17. Chris says:

For those who don’t get it, it’s his grandmother who died on the 4th in the picture.

And yes, that’s quite possibly the sweetest caption evah!

  18. Chordus says:

This is quite possibly the only non-funny caption we’ll ever see on punditkitchen, but if ever there was a caption worth having, it’s this one. Props to barmca.

… No, I take back part of this comment. There have been plenty of non-funny captions. But this is the only one that was intentionally so. :P

    • Tessie says:

Can’t quite agree with you there. A couple of days ago, there was a serious caption about Sen. McCain’s concession speech being the classy thing to do. It was respectful toward him, and so were most of the comments. I thought it was a nice gesture, and quite in the spirit of fence-mending (as was his speech).

I enjoy lols, but the occasional serious comment is OK with me, too.

    • Wendy says:

There was one with Tank Man. That was beautiful too.

  19. Starstuff says:

That’s a touching one. Well done.

  20. imacarmeladdict says:

    awwww how nice :)

  21. jerseygirl in GA says:

This comment is not funny, and completely appropriate! I love it!

  22. DeathWyrmNexus says:

I was touched. Not funny and thus not in the right spot but I can appreciate it. Some of my lolz are not meant for a laugh. I still like this one.

  23. Ibbits2 says:

Way to make my eyes well up at work. :)

  24. ManfredMom says:

She knew her work on this earth was done… and done well.

  25. Marilyn says:

    Oh you made me cry.

  26. Lynz says:

Eh, the people who are flaming this probably just have never lost someone as close as a mother.

They’d understand this a lot more if they had.

    I think it’s sweet.

  27. Uncle Fester says:

    To the nay sayers…

The mouthings of fools it like the flatulence of pigs, loud, emphatic, pungent, and of no worth to anyone say the one who emitted it.

Yes, it’s mawkish… deal… go beat a loved one or say something nasty to a friend to improve your mood… maybe torture a small animal to death… it seems to be the level of your collective mentality.

  28. buttascotch says:

    :’]
definitely not fun. but one of the best ive seen.. how sweet
    ‘08AMA! yes, we did.

  29. eye-talian says:

    You make-a me cry

  30. Kate says:

So sad, and so sweet. And to all of you assholes who commented up there, I don’t care if you disagree with his politics–but can’t you at least be a decent human being? Don’t you see what a tragedy her passing was for him and his family? I mean come on, show a little respect.

  31. Danny says:

Not hatin’, but this doesn’t belong on a humor site.

    • jazzmoth says:

YOU don’t belong on a humor site if you think everything HAS to be funny. Humor isn’t always laughing, humor isn’t always making fun of someone. This is is fitting for the site in that it makes one smile – out of sappiness, partly – but also out of thruthiness. It’s not like they’re showing puppies cuddling or rainbows. It’s a real (somber) LOL, and those exist, too.

    • amocksun says:

What does that even mean? LOL

“You don’t belong on a cooking site if everything has to be edible.”

“You don’t belong on a skateboarding sites if you have legs.”

“You don’t belong on forums trolling honest opinions if you don’t have anger issues.”

  32. WWWWW says:

On a more “PK” type note, Barry Da’Bomber looks like a pimp in that picture. ;)

  33. voodoolady says:

Ignoring all of the idiots still fighting over an election that’s been decided…
This picture and its caption is lovely. Thank you, to whoever made it.

  34. Joe says:

You made me break into tears at work! NOT appreciated, damnit!

    It’s a beautiful sentiment, though. I hope you’re right.

    • Tessie says:

This pic (among other things) made me realize how lucky I was to have had as much time as I did with all four of my grandparents. I don’t know if I believe in an afterlife, but it was a blessing to have their love and strength and wisdom in my life.

  35. Vik says:

This may be sweet, but it’s not FUNNY. Isn’t that what this place is supposed to be about… teh funnies??

  36. Jocasta says:

This is awesome. I don’t care that it’s not funny. It’s so sweet.

  37. Paul says:

    R.I.P. Toot.

  38. Seiber says:

    Aww!

Man, I feel so sorry for Obama. Makes it a bit of a bittersweet victory.

  39. Ginny says:

I’m willing to bet that every single ignorant, hateful comment here are people who voted for the other guy.

QQ more, he lost, get over it.

  40. Leyla says:

This one is beautiful. I almost cried.

  41. barmca says:

Thanks, everybody.. for commenting on my Caption.

    —-
For the people who can’t appreciate my humane caption, thats fine… but maybe they also don’t realize this: That all comedy is based on suffering, difficulty, trouble, sadness and heartbreak. You can dissect any caption you have favorited, and then look for one of these things to be the baseline of what is underneath. All comedians know this…….. comedy is like a coin, it has both sides, or it cannot exist….it’s like cops and robbers…. and all good comedians have a true humanity to their comedy…….

And sometimes an event happens, and cuts through the comedy clutter….and you just gotta get real…. and you just want to get real….

    • jazzmoth says:

THANK you! I was just trying to explain this to a douche up there. ^
It’s not haha funny, it’s appropriate funny. :)

    • Love says:

Thank you so much for the pic and caption. I was so touched by it!
Like many said, despite your politicial leanings or lack thereof… most anyone can relate to losing a loved one and having them miss out on important life milestones. I am bewildered how anyone can do anything other than appreciate or ignore it; hate and denigrating it just is ignorant.
      Thanks again, barmca!

    • lowly grunt says:

Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but the thing dies in the process and the innards are discouraging to any but the pure scientific mind.
      E. B. White (1899 – 1985)

      • barmca says:

I definitely agree… you don’t want to REALLY dissect a frog! You just want to see the frog — but if you do dissect it, as is this discussion, there you will find the innards…. guts, blood, and all !!

    • Mezbit says:

Thank you – I have been reading all of the other comments and was pleased to see you responding – I cannot think of a better thing to say – your caption is perfect and human.

    • Uncle Fester says:

Sorry, I posted ‘Bathos/Pathos’ before I saw this. Kudos for putting it better than I did.

    • Uncle Fester says:

In some respects, this is mythic. The woman who raised the 44th President died the night before he won. Moses in sight of the Promised Land and a thousand other legends from a score of cultures, played out on a 21st Century canvas…

    • Heather Mac says:

Like when Margaret Cho, or Carlos Mencia, or the late great George Carlin would bring up serious stuff.

  42. barmca says:

I just want to thank everybody who appreciated my caption. I really thank you for telling me….

  43. Failerella says:

OHHHHH! LOL not supposed to make me cry! But verra lovely, thanks.

  44. Yasako says:

It was very nice of you to do this…well done.

  45. Matdredalia says:

This was awesome. And I fully believe this belongs on this site just as much as the lol’s do.

This is a caption site, that doesn’t mean it always has to be funny.

I have to admit, I teared up.

Rest in Peace, Grandma Toot. Your boy will be just fine.

  46. maddy says:

Beautiful. That’s all I need to say.

  47. tabbehkitteh says:

Touching caption. Thank you. How sad that she didn’t live to see him win, but I agree — she does know. When Obama takes his oath of office on the steps of the Capitol, he will be standing on steps constructed with the labor of African slaves, men and women bought and sold like livestock. I also think that somehow that they will know, too, and rejoice.

  48. KMcC. says:

I know I’m not the only one who wanted to cry when they saw this.

  49. debbie_28@hotmail.com says:

    Satan told her upon arrival

      • Uncle Fester says:

By ’stay classy’ you mean ‘keep shagging Lascar sailors three at a time in harbour timber yards cos you like it’? Otherwise it’s a ‘class’ I’ve not encountered outside of people who give crack to kindergarten children :)

    • torak says:

Oh man, I love this caption and I’m a big fan of Obama, and Toot sounds like a wonderful person and I’m very sad she died… but man you just made me laugh more than I’d like to. Harsh, very harsh, but funny. Points to you, sir. Points.

  50. Meg says:

Don’t lie. You didn’t read that book.

  51. erik teh lolcat says:

    WIN!!!1!!!1

  52. Snoodle says:

    Aww…teary-eyed now.

  53. gop says:

    LIBERALS BLOW

  54. Love says:

Your vulgarity aside, I agree that his book focused more on the “have not” instead of the “haves”. But that seems to be human nature, to take for granted what we have and to always dwell on what we’re missing instead of what we have.
No one said Obama was perfect. Even he said that had he known while he was writing his book DFMF that his mother was so sick he would have made more of it about her. But, the reality is he didn’t and he laments that. Perhaps he will find time and write about all of his successes achieved through the strength of his maternal family. =)
A lot of children from single-parent households miss- and dream- of the absentee parent. It’s natural to want both parents. But hopefully when they grow up they look back and appreciate the parent that was there.

  55. cinerina says:

Totally sweet and blubbing my eyes out. Perfectly done BARMCA!

  56. Ivy Shoots says:

Awesome, very touching. Love is the answer, not fear. We will heal the country we all love.

  57. ShadowVenus says:

To those that question this picture’s inclusion, I have to ask: what’s the big deal? This may be a site that is generally satirical, but is certainly room for the occasional serious/sober picture and caption. It’s reflective of your lack of ability to adapt when encountering things you do not expect.

As for the trolls, although you’ve irritated plenty of users here, I should point out that ultimately, you’re caricatures of buffoonery, whose posts confirm for the rest of us the real dangers of aliteracy (different from illiteracy) and limited education, and the notion that there may in fact be a segment of the population worthy for the rest of us to dismiss as useless anvils dragging the rest of society down.

As for everyone else, let us enjoy these turn of events, and view the next four years with all due optimism. Just remember that optimism is not enough; we need to be willing to sacrifice of our conveniences and irrelevant luxuries as much as we expect the wealthy to pay a more proportionate share of taxes and expect the Executive branch to return to a more responsible style of governance. This is an opportunity to show the world, those that did not vote for Obama, and even ourselves, what we can do.

  58. Eden says:

I know we make fun, and poke at the people who are running, but I’m so glad that sometimes someone realizes it’s time to be kind.

Thank you so much for being that person! This made me sob into my laptop!

Anyone know how to get tears off anti-glare screens?

    This rocks SOOO much!

  59. Meredith says:

I think this is so sweet.

  60. Danielle says:

This was an extremely sweet picture, and I’m glad I got to see it. I think he knows that she knows.

  61. mandie says:

    this thread reminds me of

  62. mandie says:

shit, it didnt post it… nevermind

  63. Liz says:

You sir, just melted my heart.

  64. jess orl says:

Some people are truly terrible. Even if you are so spiteful as to not like the guy; even if you think he’s some terrorist socialist or you actually bought into the bull that Fox News was selling… Obama is still a person, and this picture is beautiful.
    A. Plus.

  65. Dameon says:

    this was very touching

  66. OhJustPickOne says:

Aw shucks, now you went and brought a tear to my eye with this caption.

    Well done!

And I do believe she knows. =)

  67. Jerry says:

    Not my president
