  1. shado0w says:

    her dressing style srsly…suks though

  2. Korin says:

    Not first!
and WOW at that outfit…. pink, ruffles, glittery bits? EW

    • Anne says:

It’s called a kuspuk, a traditional outfit worn by Alaska Natives.

      • Rafiq of the many says:

No matter what you call it, or who originated it, it still is ugly especially in pink.

Just becuase it is a traditional outfit doesn’t mean it cannot be ugly. sorry.

        • It is tradition to wear ugly dresses apparently. It is why I hate certain traditions.

          • metonymy says:

I just googled kuspuk, and so far every image that has come up looks significantly better than that one. If we can’t trust her to pick a nice kuspuk, how can we trust her to run the country!?!

            • x-bert says:

Until McCain died, she wouldn’t be running much of anything.. but the person who decided that she’d make a great VP WOULD be…

            • Sarah of Philadelphia says:

Ha-yup. Ever seen white chicks in the South West wear ‘native clothes’?

I don’t think Sequins and Ribbons were what the indigenous folks had in mind.

I wonder if Palin also has “Dream Catchers” hanging around her place… they’re pretty cool too! Aren’t Indians Cute?

            • Sasha says:

I can tell you are worried about the real issues in this election.

      • ema says:

Wow, thanks for the link, I bet it was a gift. Nice of her to actually wear it in public!

      • Tessie says:

Interesting. When I first saw the pic, I thought her dress looked like a costume for a school Thanksgiving play (no offense to the ethnic group[s] who traditionally wear this garment).

I think she’s just jealous of the Pope’s ruby slippers (I know *I* am!).

      • Storm says:

Yeah, that’s all well and good, but I really doubt it was tradition to make them pink and cover them in glitter.

      • Maria says:

I live in Fairbanks, Alaska; I’m Yup’ik; I own a blue kuspuk. Where I live they are so common. I even wear an Obama pin because it’s matches and it’s pretty awesome.
        B^D

        • Uncle Fester says:

It’s Ethnic? Who knew… in civilisation it looked like something that Cyndi Lauper would wear in the 80s…

  3. Rafiq of the many says:

    Good lord.

Am i the only one who believes the fashion police arrested her right after this picture was taken?

  4. sally says:

    Ewwww.
But it might have cost a fortune- ya never know.
I’ve seen really expensive, yet really fugly stuff!

  5. KG says:

She’s wearing a kuspuk – it’s a traditional Alaskan Yup’ik garment. It ties her to the people she’s supposedly governing. The woman with her is a local. It looks ridiculous anywhere else but in Alaska is not unusual at all. Obviously she can’t wear it on the campaign trail down here but certainly didn’t need $150,000 to replace it. They have nice stuff at Macy’s.

    • x-bert says:

… if you know how to shop, there’s plenty of good stuff at Walmart…
… but the real rollback should have been McCain rolling back his decision for her as VP.

      • Psarah says:

Why? You (like any other democrat) would find something wrong with anyone he chose as his VP candidate, unless he chose a democrat, and then you STILL might find something wrong with him/her.

        • mongoose says:

How the hell do you know x-bert is a democrat? Jesus, assumptions make you look like a poopdick.

          • eddiepscetti says:

poopdick?!?! LOL! I can honestly say I’ve never heard that one before.. poopdeck, yes. poopdick, no.

          • pdq says:

I always said ‘poopstick’ – ‘poopdick’ is better.

          • x-bert says:

            Thanks, mongoose…
And, yeah – I mostly consider myself an independent .. with Libertarian tendencies and a sprinkling of Anarchist.

          • Psarah says:

Calling me names like that make you look even worse than making assumptions could ever make me.

But, then again, this is politics… It’s like a see-and-say.
The democrat says “Your candidate is stupid.”
The republican says “Your candidate is stupid.”
All other parties say “You’re all stupid.”
Immature people say “You’re a poopdick.”

            • x-bert says:

Try to rise above it all you like – an assumption on that level aimed directly at me is blatant douchebaggery and you would have been called on it by me if mongoose hadn’t beat me to it.

              • Psarah says:

Okay, I’m sorry. Is that what you want? I’ve been humiliated on the internet by people I don’t know, in front of people I don’t know, and I apologize for jumping to conclusions. Happy?

        • eddiepscetti says:

No, because his choice was blatant pandering. As a registered Republican, I thought his choice was completely idiotic. Considering the other viable candidates, Palin was the worst choice possible. I honestly feel he made this decision because he doesn’t want to win. In fact, I think the whole thing caught him by surprise.

          • lindsayf says:

You know, my boyfriend and I think the same thing. I think it caught him by surprise, too. Poor guy. He wouldn’t have done a horrible job, either.

        • Rafiq of the many says:

Why not Libby Dole? Seriously, if McCain felt he had to pick a women Dole is much better option. She is not only conservative but far more experienced and qualified than Sarah.

I know many republicans who were shocked, and dissappointed that Palin was picked before other more qualified people in the party

          • lowly grunt says:

There are many other Republican women in our country who have more experience in government than Palin. Here is a partial list of Senators, governors, and Congresswomen: Kay Bailey Hutchinson, Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins, Liddy Dole, Christine Todd Whitman (not in office), Nancy Hollister, Jane Swift, Lisa Murkowski, Deborah Pryce, Sue Myrick, Jo Ann Emerson, Kay Granger, Anne Northrup, Heather Wilson, Shelley Moore Capito, Marsha Blackburn, Thelma Drake, Virginia Foxx, Cathy Morris Rogers and then we get to Michele Bachman and Jean Schmidt and the pool starts getting a little murky….

            • Musicmom870 says:

Whitman has more experience as a governor, head of the EPA, business experience, and is something of a “mavrik” in her own right, having said “Thanks, but no thanks” to screwing the environment for the bush administration. She’s also more of an energy expert than Palin.
Picking Palin for political reasons rather than a moderate who might actually govern effectively is a huge failure on McCain’s part. Just one of many.

              • viking gal says:

Yeah, I would have had some respect if he had picked Whitman or Dole. Sigh. Not so much with Jane Swift, though. We learned a little bit too much about her here in the wilds of Massachusetts!

            • eddiepscetti says:

Murky? I would compare it more to a cesspool. However, you’re list is awesome and would have loved to see almost anyone of those ladies given the nod instead of Palin. At least it would have made McCain’s campaign credible and not the joke it has become.

              • Maxwell Silverhammer says:

I do agree, and Ive stated it before, I was on the straight talk express
despite my differences on certain policies, until this laughing stock came on
board. And to think people are rumoring her running in 2012 as president?
I think someone else said it as well, n8… or Seth? I’d LOVE to see that
                primary!

          • jelly-hussein-beans says:

Not Dole, she has resorted to sleazier tactics than even McCain is stooping to.
Ad she put out calling her Sunday School teaching, church elder opponent “Godless” with a pic of the woman in question and a female voice over screaming “There is no God!” cited as my “proof”

          • SemiSWeetMe says:

It’s Woman. Singular , one woman. Plural, 2 women. Get it? Sorry, but I see this all over the internet and it irritates me almost as much and Sarah Palin and her winking!

        • Ev says:

If McCain loses this election, and I am guessing he probably will, his choice of running mate will take some of the blame for that. So I doubt most Democrats mind his choice at all … but I would bet that some Republicans do/will.
          Maybe.

    • SlurBunny says:

It ties her to the people she refers to as “Arctic Arabs”?

  6. Boumama says:

I was about to say exactly the same thing, KG. :D Although, part of me would love to make some for my daughters and me just for bizarro factor out here in the desert…my younger one might actually even like one. lol

  7. Boumama says:

On the other hand, though, I have to admit you never saw, say, Rose Mofford in the velvet blouse and prairie skirt favored by the more traditional Navajo women in AZ.

    • Ya, that would be interesting…

    • Tessie says:

Yeah, seriously. I don’t want to be ethnically insensitive to anyone, but what’s the deal with wearing a costume to the supermarket? I’ve never seen (for example) people in New England sporting Pilgrim outfits for everyday wear. The Native Americans, Asians, Samoans, etc., that I encounter around town wear ordinary Target-type clothes, not fringed buckskin or kimonos, even though that would be their “traditional’ wear. I don’t dress like a contadina (Italian peasant) to go food shopping — not even when I’m buying garlic. This pic is like the episode of “South Park” where Cartman was trying on various ethnicities.

      • Leland Dantzler says:

No offense, but it’s not a “costume,” like some sort of Halloween fun. It’s an physical thing that displays the emotional connection to that state’s history. So instead of mocking their background, how about we remain respectful?

        • Bee Mee says:

And she wears it to Walmart? Sorry I can’t respect her anywhere.

        • Tessie says:

I think we’re basically in agreement. Or is it a particular person’s traditional dress if they belong to an ethnic group, but a “costume” when another ethnic group appropriates it? Like some words are OK within a person’s ethnic group (or family) but definitely *not* OK for an outsider to say?

        • Maxwell Silverhammer says:

I will remain respectful in saying that the other forms of that outfit Ive seen are
very nice, and worn very well… That particular one she’s wearing though….
          Oh lord….

          • denni says:

Actually… speaking as an Alaskan, a lot of Alaska natives, particularly the eskimo peoples, still wear variations of their traditional outfits as part of everyday life. In the rural parts of northern Alaska, a kuspuk is still a completely normal piece of clothing to wear at any time. Heck, I had one when I was little, and I grew up in a city. I agree that it’s weird she wears them, but in reality it isn’t actually a costume of any kind. It’s a widely worn piece of clothing. That particular pink one is beyond hideous, but many of them are really pretty.

      • Christina says:

Then you have never been to Alaska.

  8. JayRay says:

    HA HA OH WOW.

  9. Lallz says:

I actually think it could be quite cute if you shortened the sleeves, and teamed it with skinny jeans, pretty colored bangles, and cowboy boots/flip flops depending on the time of year.

  10. ShortBus says:

Palin wears something people generally think isn’t attractive, that’s a crisis. She corrects the problem with clothes that she didn’t pay for, and that’s a crisis. Both of those apparently have something to do with being VP.

Obama spews socialist, anti-capitalist “spread the wealth” rhetoric to a hard working American, and that’s okay. Biden lies in a TV interview saying that Obama never said he wanted to “spread the wealth” and that’s okay. Neither one apparently mean anything about how they’ll run the country.

Liberal logic is without flaw, I tell you.

    • ck says:

Holy hyperbole, lolz on PK do not constitute a crisis. Settle.

    • x-bert says:

As to your first ‘paragraph’ – No, they don’t have anything to do with being VP – but a lot to do with poor judgment, on her part, and the RNC.
As to your second – I’ll wait for Seth, our resident “Blow the idiots calling Obama Sociallist out of the comments page with knowledge of socialism” guy.

    • mcfail says:

So going back to the Taxes from the Clinton Era = Socialism?? I think NOT

Redistributing Oil Windfall Profits Tax to your Alaskan people = Socialism?? You Betcha!

Seems like shortbus really rides it, no wonder hes on the McCain Short Bus Express

    • metonymy says:

Now its true that people like you are a small minority on this site, so I thought I would help you out.

This site frequently poses questions to McCain/Palin that we would love to hear them answer. Foxnews.com gave us the perfect companion discussion when they asked their listeners to post questions that they would like to hear Obama answer in his half hour show tonight.

Here are some gems: (source: gretawire.foxnews.com)

How many terrorist groups do you belong to?

HAS THIS ALL BEEN A SCHEME BY OBL TO LET YOU SLIDE INTO THE WHITE HOUSE???

Why do you want to destroy our country? Are you the Anti-Christ?

      and my personal favorite:

MY QUESTION TO THE ARAB/MUSLIM BOY.
Obama, DO YOU THINK THE MSULIM WORLD WILL HAVE AN AMERICAN, CHRISTIAN BORN NAMED JHON DOE SMITH AS A LEADER OF THEIR MUSLIM WORLD!. AN AMERICAN BORN WHOSE FRIENDS HATE YOUR MUSLIM WORLD??

      ————

And this is a comedic website… Good luck with that moral high ground.

    • DW says:

Now I know why you ride the short bus, and it ain’t because of your height…

    • Tessie says:

      Jeez, relax:

      a) Nobody on this site said that Palin wearing a goofy-looking outfit constituted a “crisis”. They said it was a goofy-looking outfit.

      b) There’s a big difference between an outfit that people don’t think is attractive, and an outfit that the person didn’t pay for. Last time I checked, politicians weren’t supposed to use public funds to pay for their personal belongings.

      c) “Hard working Americans” don’t have any wealth left to spread.

    • jelly-hussein-beans says:

      4% … Socialism is 4% now?
Palin is more of a Socialist than Obama with her dividend checks.

  11. that's sumthin says:

Here’s another view of the same outfit!

    http://www.alaskastock.com/resultsframe.asp?txtkeys1=kuspuk

  12. that's sumthin says:

Here’s a better view of that pink treat!

    http: //www. alaskastock. com /resultsframe.asp?txtkeys1=kuspuk

    Just omit the spaces!

  13. Chelseabites says:

I’m amazed by the incredible amount of public interest in Sarah Palin. Good or bad, she’s become somewhat of a pop icon. People are dressing like her to be and/or mock her all at the same time.

For instance, I found this video on dressing like Palin:

    http://www.mindbites.com/lesson/668-how-to-dress-like-sarah-palin

  14. erikablare says:

God, people, get a clue. The shirt/dress is a traditional Alaska Native article of clothing worn by women.

  15. Legion says:

    I…. I think it’s cute.

  16. cretarta says:

God, that just makes me want to bang Palin even more.

  17. Jane says:

Who cares about her clothes! Can someone tell the woman how to hold a newborn so their head is supported!

    • cretarta says:

who cares? It’s probably the ‘tarded child.

      • AC says:

I’m going to pretend that you never said such thing about a kid with Down’s syndrome.

      • Kalis-Hussein-tongue says:

I have absolutely no use for Sarah Palin, mock her and insult her all you want. But leave her son Trig out of it. Mocking the mentally handicapped is as bad as racism.

I’d adopt that little guy if I could, just to get him away from that wackjob family.

        • Darnity says:

Why leave him out of it? He drools just as good as the republican masses which follow that ignorant slut. DDDURRRRRRR!!!!!

    • Pants says:

thank you!! the poor kid looks like he’s about to lose his head… and/or suffocate. :(

  18. duck says:

why does that baby look like it’s probably dead? ya know, with that limp arm and all?

palin does not know how to hold a baby

    • ck says:

      Sleeping? I hope?

    • Darnity says:

      It’s because it’s a ‘tard,

      • froofrou says:

And you give all short bus riders hope for a future where they will one day be able to power on a computer and say smart things just like you said.
        -
        *rolls eyes*
        -
As far as how she’s holding the baby, poor thing looks like he’s sacked completely out! My daughter does this when she’s sleeping. And those little onesies with the hoods make it easy to hold the baby without worrying so much about supporting the head.

        • eddiepscetti says:

Don’t feed the trolls! As sure as God made little green apples, they’ll be back to spew forth more garbage.

          • froofrou says:

That kind of stupidity deserves a sharp whack with a large board. I can’t help myself sometimes! :-)

            • eddiepscetti says:

What’s really funny is 1 minute after I posted that I almost fed another troll!

              • lowly grunt says:

They are pretty thick around here nowadays, huh? It’s sorta like having a lot of ducks surround you in the park; you know you aren’t supposed to feed them but the quacking starts and it just gets into your head and the only way to stop it is to feed them feed them all

  19. Shelley says:

I am disgusted how people even are concerned with palin’s style. She buys her clothes from the same consignment shop in Anchorage Alaska. Her earings were given to her by her husband’s aleut grandmother. She wears a flag pin which is patriotic. I hear no one talking of how much Biden’s clothes cost. palin did not choose the costly clothes. they were for a purpose just for a time so she would look best for the camera as the other candidates. her clothes and whatever was bought will be given back to charity. sheesh.. people have no clue about the truth. Why be childish and look at the superficial and make light of it. why is this picture a joke? thats her own style. if you can’t say anything nice..

    • de Ogi says:

Would it make you feel better to know that Michelle Obama defended Sarah Palin’s clothing make-over when Leno brought it up? Mrs. Obama was remarkably gracious and classy. I don’t think I’d have been able to be that wonderful and kind toward someone who said horrible anti-American things about my husband. (but then, that’s why Mrs. Obama will be such a good First Lady, and me… well, I’d suck.)

    • Maxwell Silverhammer says:

If you cant say anything nice…. says the person who just made an entirely negative post… I mean cmon… You’re vapid, naive, hypocritical, overly serious, bitter…. but hey, nice shoes ;-)
See? Its easy to throw in something nice there.

    • ck says:

Can you explain to me why the RNC’s money also went to TRIG’s clothes? Spending donations on fancy clothes for Palin is one ridiculous thing, but why did they have to deck out her infant too?

  20. Jennifer says:

HAHA Michelle Obama defended Sarah Palin’s clothing makeover? That’s great! Sarah Palin didn’t dress down during her speech at the DNC now did she? In an attempt to make us feel all cozy and like she was one of us!

I think it says something when they are picking apart Sarah Palin’s clothes. I guess they have nothing better to pick at her about! As for people that comment on her “‘tard” baby. Boy, don’t you show class!

  21. kat says:

Actually, I think this is something native from alaska. In which case it’s not so bad, it’s just not our style…

  22. bb says:

What is wrong with you people? You google kuspuk and you think you understand everything about them because you saw some pictures of fancy ones? Maybe I’m crazy but I wouldn’t be wearing my best kuspuk to the grocery store.

Aside from that, the outfit was probably given to her as a gift from the people she was visiting. I would have worn it too. Do they not have manners in the Lower 48?

  23. Christina says:

To be so high and mighty, you dems sure are culturally challenged. That outfit is called a Kuspuk. A traditional native dress worn by the Alaska Native people. You claim to be sensitive to minorities? Give me a break. That’s an insult. If I didn’t know any better, I’d swear you were a bunch of republicans. Until you live in Alaska, especially the bush, don’t make fun of our people. A sense of humor is great, but you’re implying that just because you’re all in the lower 48 that you have a better sense of fashion. Native people give these as gifts to non-native people as well as natives. I aree with BB. Apparantly manners are lacking in the lower 48. And all this picture and caption makes you look like are a bunch of ignorant half-wits.

    • Banana80 says:

Democrat or not, I have never before seen a Kuspuk, let along heard of one… Is *that* what makes me culturally challenged?

  24. Christina says:

And GOD forbid, Sarah be culturally sensitive. That would make you all look bad.

  25. disneydiecastinsider says:

It’s nice to know that the dems are interested in real issues…like fashion.

Thaks for showing the world the number of morons that support Obama.

  26. michelle says:

it looks terrible on her. I understand it’s an Alaskan Native outfit but I don’t think other people look that ridiculous wearing it o_O maybe in a different color?
