    *chuckle*

  2. Tairii says:

Can we please get some new jokes?

  3. Guinny says:

Dude, that’s nothing! I can see Russia from *here* and I’m not even outside or near a window!

  4. Christine says:

I think that Canada would have been a better country to pick. On both of their parts. Alaska actually shares a land border with Canada and has to fend off all those illegal moose.
And South Dakota is also closer to Canada.

Democrate, and journalist, calling out those in his profession.

    • pdq says:

OSC is apparently a registered Dem, but he’s no journalist. He’s a writer of fiction.

To tell the truth, the Dem registration astonishes me. I’ve read his stuff – fiction and opinion pieces – and that man is a neocon through and through. He does write a mean ghost story, tho.

I think it’s neat how you chose to ignore the entire content of the article posted and instead debated its author’s political views. I can tell that you are an Obama supporter, you both talk around the issues.

Just to clarify, the author of an article is not the subject of the article, and therefore is not the issue presented. When you read a book, the title of the book is not the point of the book, it is the contents. In the same way, the subtitle to a link is not the point of the link.

Now are you going to argue that he did NOT invent the internet, or are you going to discuss the content of the video?

According to wiki: “Card identifies himself as a Democrat because he is pro-gun control/anti-National Rifle Association, highly critical of free-market capitalism, and because he believes that the Republican party in the South continues to tolerate racism.”
Haven’t seen him openly praise any Democratic candidates though, so grain of salt with that.
That said, “Ender’s Game” is one of the best SF books of all time.

    • Jane St.Clair says:

I’ll agree with your statement on Ender’s Game, and I also enjoyed Speaker for the Dead, but Xenocide put me to sleep, I couldn’t even finish it.

      • Lyn says:

The same goes for me, and I NEVER start a book without finishing it (seriously, I think that’s one of maybe three or four books I’ve done that with in my life.) The more recent series with Bean as the main character isn’t bad, though, although I only *really* liked the first one of those, too.

    • Seth says:

Ender’s Game is an apologia for DWN’s wang, I mean the the Holocaust. Read the subtext. ‘Sometimes something is just so alien and evil you have to completely eradicate it.’ It is also a revenge fantasy, positing an ‘other’ so foreign that we have no possibility of empathy with it, and can therefore feel completely good about wiping it out. It is an absolutely brilliant piece of propaganda, because it sounds so reasonable and thoughtful. It could convince even devout pacifists that sometimes, violence is the only answer.

Card is an outspoken homophobe and insanely militaristic. He is a great writer, but a moral degenerate. Read the Salon interview I link to in my name.

      • Ya, let’s not overwork my wang. It needs its beauty sleep. As for othering, I do believe that sometimes you just have to kick a** but that is when you have no choice. See also when somebody tries to kill you, kill them right back.

I am a bit militaristic but I try really hard to be mellow too. I would rather have neighbors than enemies. I like economic efficiency and working with allies to share ideas, etc etc. But ya, I ramble…

I think I’ll go with John McCain.

  8. TimBuk13 says:

  9. Terapyn says:

Gees, you are certainly holding a grudge on that one x-bert. After 200 years, I tend to let things go. :)

  10. Kelley says:

    *facepalm*
