I think with the hand motions, it’s more likely that he’s singing R. Kelly’s “I believe I can fly” As I write this, I realize that it is strangely appropriate given what we know about the church, R. Kelly and minors.
Some of the incidents of pedophilia portrayed in the media did occur within the Catholic church, but most occurred within other denominations of Christianity. Actually, the vast majority of pedophilia is perpetrated outside of any religious institution.

I was raised Catholic and never heard of it before. here’s a wikipedia entry, take it or leave it as I don’t know the veracity.
Part of the Cardinal vestments is red shoes, and since the Pope is chosen from among the Cardinals it’s just reasonable that they all have red shoes in their wardrobes. They don’t *all* wear them, though.
NFI re the shoes, I just thought they got to wear the little red hat and ginormus sash (’cause let’s face it, there aren’t all that many skinny cardinals around, are there?!). Not sure the red leather works with the white gear though. . .
The red shoes are part of the official vestments given to the pope when he is elected. Red and white to symbolize sacrifice/passion and purity.
