  1. Miner says:

    Liberal hate fest in 3..2..1..

    • Seth says:

Hating on liberals: you’re already doing it. Don’t need the countdown, it started as soon as you used the phrase ‘liberal hate fest.’ Hypocrisy: yer doin’ it right!

      • AtlasShrugged says:

        Miner is correct- see?

      • Trainwreck Chaser says:

I don’t think Miner understands the culture here.

If the picture promotes john McCain or attacks Barak, the left attack back.

If the picture promotes Barak or attacks McCain, usually the left attacks back.

While I have my own opinions, generally what I just said is true.

        Now for partisan comment

LOL ROFLMAO John McCain is old……..AND dumb!!!!

Do you guys really find this funny? Honestly? And don’t go into “Well yes because politically I’m angry at him” speech, i’m talking from a humor perspecitve, which we forget some times is the point of this site.

Yes you’re right, humor is relative. So from a relativity point, this is still dumb.

        • Trainwreck Chaser says:

          perspective*

        • Alli says:

I do think it’s amusing, politics aside (or as aside as you can put them–were this Joe Schmo waving at a window no one would care, but since it’s someone well known people do).

Is it what is actually happening in the photo? Of course not. The blinds are open, he’s clearly waving at someone on the other side. However, you can actually see his hand reflecting in the glass. From the camera’s (and humor’s) perspective he’s waving at his own reflection. It’s hilarious.

        • eddiepscetti says:

You know where I stand politically speaking and yes, this was damn funny!!

        • Stereotypo says:

No, I completely agree TwC. It’s not comedy, satire, or even an observation. John McCain hasn’t proven himself to be childish or unintelligent. If this was a picture of President Bush, it would make sense. It would be trite and little more than white noise on a cultural bandwagon, but it would make sense. As it is, the joke is more asinine than the mentality it’s attempting to mock.

          • Trainwreck Chaser says:

Thank you, even though you might be on the other side of the isle, someone understands that Lols are meant to be funny.

          • metonymy says:

Anyone waving at their own reflection deserves ridicule. This is particularly true if the person is applying for the job of leader of the free word. We repeatedly make fun of CATS in the lolcats section for doing precisely the same thing.

          • Danbala says:

No, no, had it been a picture of Dubya, it wouldn’t have been as effective.

What makes this funny (I am now of course only relating to the way my sense of humour works), is that you quite easily realise that he’s waving to someone on the other side of the window, the fact that he has not appeared to be daft, and the fact that the is old enough that senility could potentially start being an issue in not all too distant a future.

It’s the fact that you can tell that the caption makes this picture into something that it really is not, that makes it fun!

I’ll apologise right now for potential spelling, grammar or formatting errors, I am still trying to get to grips with this particular interface.

        • Maxwell Silverhammer says:

You’ve been away for too long my friend, this is how the trend goes now..
          1. No matter the lol content, someone makes a comment that rubs one party
          the wrong way
          2. Snide comments and “clever debate” ensue.
          3. Actual agreement between the two sides of the isle happens
          4. …. In bed
          5. Random troll interjects an inflammatory comment
          6. “Clever debate” re-ensues, this time with condescending remarks made on
          both sides
          7. Someone mentions nazis which leads to DWN’s wang.
          8. Both sides after a good 10-15 posts decides to agree to disagree, kiss and make up
          9. The post degenerates into innuendo and movie references, and good times
          are had by all.

So you see, TWC… to the regulars, PK is still a place for good, healthy, debate,
and in the end a little promiscuity, and good wholesome… dirty, dirty fun. ;-)

      • OMG says:

he was pre-empting a Liberal hate fest, Seth.

  2. rhorho says:

    second

  3. rhorho says:

I’m a moderate, so no liberal hate fest here. I think John McCain is sincere, but he bet on the wrong horse.

  4. I lol’d but didn’t favorite. Too easy.

  5. ohno says:

i know it may not ‘fit’ the lol, just throwing it out there where comments are few..
    CAMPAIGN WATCH
“Transcend means ‘to move beyond, to surpass.’ At least that’s what I always thought. But I’m beginning to wonder whether it means instead: ‘Much, much more of the same, only this time really stupid.’ Exhibit A: the incessant, relentless, click-your-ruby-red-slippers-and-say-it-until-it-comes-true mantra that Barack Obama will magically cause America to ‘transcend race.’ One hears and reads this everywhere, but less as an argument than as a prayer, an expression of faith, a ‘from my lips to The One’s ear’ sort of thing. It is, of course, total and complete nonsense. According to L.B.O. (Logic Before Obama), transcending race would involve making race less of an issue. Passengers on Spaceship Obama would see race shrink and then vanish in the rearview mirror. Instead, Obama has set off a case of full-blown race dementia among precisely the crowd that swears Obama is leading us out of the racial wilderness. Rather than shrink, the tumor of racial paranoia is metastasizing, pressing down on the medulla oblongata or whatever part of the brain that, when poked, causes one to hallucinate, conjure false memories and write astoundingly insipid things. For instance, a writer for Slate sees racism when anyone notes that Barack Obama is—wait for it—skinny. What this portends for Fat Albert is above my pay grade. We need to rewrite those old Schoolhouse Rock cartoons, because now virtually any adjective, noun, verb or adverb aimed at Barack Obama that is not obsequiously sycophantic or wantonly worshipful runs the risk of being decried as racist. Community organizer? Racist! Mentioning his middle name? Racist! Arrogant? Racist! Palling around with a (white) terrorist? Racist! Celebrity? Racist! Cosmopolitan? Racist! This? Racist! That? Racist! The other thing? Oh man, that’s really racist. The new Schoolhouse Rock cartoon: ‘Conjunction: a word that connects a racist attack and Barack Obama’.” —Jonah Goldberg

    • AtlasShrugged says:

      wow….

    • ck says:

      Jesus, lay off the meds.

    • n8 says:

      To sum up: WHARRGARBL!

    • rhorho says:

I think the race issue needs to be examined before it can be transcended, much in the way that one needs to acknowledge a problem in order to defeat it.

And transition is messy. To make an omelette, you have to break a few eggs.

In the meantime, I think it’s still safe to make fun of Obama’s ears.

    • To read your post, racist. To look at a nice ass on a black woman, Racist AND sexist. For me to sit here beside a black woman at work while I dick around on PK, Racist, Lazy, Sexist, and Masturbatory. To keep typing a response… Idiocy.

      Interesting read though.

    • rhorho says:

While we’re on the topic of -isms, what about age-ism? The caption above shows the kind of respect we often pay to our senior citizens, does it not? Though I giggle at some of the “old guy” jokes, I do so with quilty feelings. There is another photo making the PK rounds, showing McCain looking down during the State of the Union Address. Is it fair to indicate that he has dozed off, due to age? Tell me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think “the age thing” has been properly examined in public.

(I didn’t vote for McCain, but admire his service and sincerity.)

      • rhorho says:

Apologies to TC Didn’t see your post while typing mine. Perhaps I’m getting old…!

      • Ev says:

I see what you’re saying, but I don’t the caption above has anything to do with age. Also … this is a site that kind of invites making fun of politicians, so you probably shouldn’t use it as an example of typical, everyday interactions.

      • Danbala says:

Yes, I think that age is definitely a factor in what makes this caption work. Well, it is for me, anyway. But, I don’t know if would think it is a big issue. Age is (and mark well that I am not American, and to add to that has mostly followed the election via radio) one of the more obvious characteristics of McCain. I am sure he has many other qualities as well, but age is certainly up there in the top of what the discussions about him as a candidate center around. In my world, that is.

Is it fair? Is that relevant? Isn’t humour very often based on not being fair, nice or correct?

        • Ev says:

From what I have seen, I don’t think age was a big consideration in people’s minds until after he chose his running mate. Not that it wasn’t noted; it just didn’t seem to be a big deal.

          • Danbala says:

No, I don’t think it has been noted as very big deal “over here” either, but it has certainly been one of the few things that has come across. Just about when I had the feeling that the reporting about the different candidates was starting to get interesting here though, Palin happened.
            .
I don’t claim to be very up-to-date or knowledgable about the American elections, I try to catch a fact or two when I can, but as far as I am aware, McCain’s age has been reported as a factor, positive and/or negative. In fact, McCain being a fairly old dude is one of the few things I knew about him without checking it up further on my own. So I wouldn’t consider my chuckling at this lol being all about ageism.
            .
Sorry if I appear rambling, it is not my intention. Too much coffee, too little sleep. :P

    • eddiepscetti says:

I think the viewpoint may be a little extreme, but the gist of it may be valid. The thing is, while Obama is no JFK, there are a lot parallels between Obama and JFK in that Kennedy got hammered for being Catholic. Sounds silly now, but back then it was a huge issue. I don’t think the country will ever truly get beyond racism as long as those who are disadvantaged continue to see themselves as such. I know that may sound racist, but seriously, there are a lot of minorities that have pulled themselves out of terrible living conditions and made something of their life. Along with that though, those of us NOT in those circumstances need to do what we can to assist (and I don’t mean monitarily).

  6. ethana2 says:

Really though, what /was/ he doing?

  7. Amie says:

Did anybody else notice that “Mr.” should be “Senator”?

  8. LOL…Very funny picture. Maybe he thinks his reflection is his imaginary friend, Joe the Plumber.

    • Leland Dantzler says:

I’ve got an idea that will be bashed. How ’bout instead of using PK lols for political digs, we just comment on the picture? Here goes!

This was funny because an old guy is waving to someone who is actually his reflection. I actually chuckled.

Now was that hard? Why can’t we just comment on the picture instead of starting fifty-twelveteen arguments about whether Palin was a poor choice? Gah…

      • scum-bot says:

        it starts by either:
        A) Someone point blanks talk about something completely unrelated or barely related.
        B) Someone makes a comment on the lol that sounded offensive to another person
        C) Someone point blank makes an insult barely related to lol
        d) A combination of the above
        :P

    • Miner says:

Can’t stand what Obama said, so claim that Joe the Plumber doesn’t exist ?
(Sticks fingers in ears and closes eyes while saying “I can’t here you !!!!)

      • Miner says:

        Hear! hear !

      • rhorho says:

Miner, Do you believe that Joe the Plumber was representing his financial situation accurately? He is a plumber’s helper who cannot possibly afford to buy the company for which he works. Evidently, he has some debt management issues, as it is. One day, Joe may raise the money to buy that company: He seems to be on the verge of a great fiction writing career.

        • the_original_shortright says:

i thought that miner was saying that “joe the plumber” was a real guy simply to counteract scorpio saying he was an imaginary friend.

i didn’t take it to mean that miner thought joe the plumber represented himself accurately… just that he wasn’t imaginary.

          • ck says:

And I thought scorpio was implying that McCain and JtP are not actually friends (plant maybe, political opportunity definitely), not that JtP doesn’t exist.

  9. Dayvid says:

    LOL!

    Hilarious…

  10. OMG says:

    BRILLIANT

  11. Kelly says:

McCain is freakishly robotic when he waves……STOP IT MAN, you’re scaring the children!!!!!!!LOL
