I agree with this Jules character. If you are going to agrue a point please do so without mistreating the english lanuage. It really is rather sad when a 16 year old girl can punctuate better then a grown man. I also find it quite funny that she is known as the “pitbull with lipstick”, yet most of her supporters are going around with images of bulldogs. Breed fail.

Does anyone else realize that aside from George W. Bush and Sarah Palin, Dwight Eisenhower, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton all said “nucular”? Clinton seems to have shaped up recently, which has been nice. I think it’s pretty interesting and very telling that the use of “nucular” is being used as an attack now, and it wasn’t used during the Clinton Presidency. Also, George W. Bush used to say “nuclear,” towards the beginning of his first term. It regressed pretty rapidly to “nucular.”

Another thing that’s really easy to overlook is that people do this sort of thing all the time. Many people pronounce the word “jewelry” as “julery.” It isn’t proper pronunciation at all, but nobody jumps all over people for saying it like that. Granted, it isn’t as blatantly obvious as “nucular,” but it’s essentially the same error.

I guess my point is that people who think that the use of “nucular” rather than “nuclear” is an indication of intelligence should really take a linguistics course. Language changes over time. The word “horse” was originally “hros,” and the word “bird” was “bryd.” All this to say: “nucular” isn’t stupid, it’s just different.
