It looks like he’s trying to Limbo! How low can you go, mon?

  5. Rorsc says:

Everyone seems to forget how bad the Democrat controlled congress is doing.

    • n8 says:

You seem to forget that the dems just got there two years ago. Two years is barely enough time to assess the damage from TWELVE years of Republican domination of the congress. But sure… blame the guys who just got there. Who needs personal responsibility anyway, right?

      Stay classy…

      • Trainwreck Chaser says:

So you’re saying its going to go lower then 14%?

        • n8 says:

Sure… until the rest of the Repubs get kicked out. It’s a distinct possibility that Obama will be graced with a fillibuster-proof Democratic majority, at which point you can expect the approval rating for Congress to rise sharply.

          • You did this to yourself…

Never count on a party to save anybody just because they are part of a party. That is othering. We actually need a heathier mix while ousting a lot of old blood in there.

          • Matt says:

Right just like the 70’s huh? Have fun with your 4 years of socialism. The coutry will be in such ruin after Obama that it will be a loooooong time before another dem is elected. Jimmy Carter 2!!!!

            • mouse says:

the best part about the retarded accusations of the McCain campaign, is that people are actually repeating them trying to look cool for the internets.

      • PortlandMark says:

Sorry, gotta take issue with you on this. As a leftie, I’m vastly disappointed in the democratic leadership right now. Pelosi and Reed are just spineless lumps of jello, willing to give Bush anything he wants. And *that’s* why their ratings are so low.

C’mon, where was impeachment?!? Even Donald Trump wants to know why we didn’t impeach the bums.

        • n8 says:

Can’t really argue with you there. I imagine the lack of impeachment is because there wasn’t enough time, it wouldn’t have passed, and the political capital would’ve been wasted. Doesn’t excuse the lack of any attempt, just theorizing an explanation.
However, a Dem congress with a Dem president should be able to get some stuff done. If not, I will join in the criticism whole-heartedly. I and many others are putting a lot of faith in Obama. He’s going to have to work hard and achieve much to measure up.

          • D21 says:

Don’t get your hopes up too much. Democrats are are slowly inching their way to that inevitable point where expectations are so high that no one could possibly live up to them…if they haven’t reached that point already.

        • Seth says:

I had such high hopes for Pelosi as speaker, and she has so let us down. I thought there would be an impeachment too, but the only guy singing that tune is Kucinich. Kucinich/Nader is my dream ticket.

      • Matthias says:

So, by your count, Bush was cleaning up the mess made by Clinton, right? That’s when everything went to shite, around two years after Bush took office. Nice try, champ.

      • Matt says:

Well it was funny that the economy didn’t tank out and gas prices didn’t shoot up till the liberals got in charge.

        Socialism FTL!!!

      • Cameron says:

You dumbass… what’s happened in the last 2 years? Lets see… massive economic crisis, total asshatness over everything. I don’t think congress has done anything. And they have an approval rating of 9%?!?!!?! And what “damage” did the republicans cause?
        Stay ignorant…

      • vduhr says:

Also, what most people don’t realize, is that even though the Dems are the majority, it is not enough to stop the Repubs from filibustering, which has caused the Congress to stalemate, and nothing gets pushed through.

  6. ryszard says:

Bush: “Hey, about time I got some respect!”

  7. Foamer says:

Anyone remember Nancy Pelosi promising that “this would be the most ethical Congress in history”?

How’s that working out for her? I’m sure she can ask Rep. Mahoney of Florida and Rep. Jefferson of Louisiana, among others.

  8. Jason says:

Aren’t democratic members of congress getting higher ratings than republican ones?

  9. ewokgirl says:

Am I the only person pissed off by Bush playing off his stupidity. “Oops, my bad, I ruined your country’s rep and gave you a $5 Trillion debt.” Har har har Bush is freakin’ hilarious!

Somebody needs to tell him that joking about being a bad president is equivalent to spitting in our collective face.

    • I am still holding out my wicked little hopes for a vicious legal proceeding and dragging him through cobblestone streets attached to violent horses.

But that won’t happen cuz we would need to drag his cabinet, vp, and some idiot congressmen while we’re at it. BUT I CAN DREAM DAMMIT!!!

      • ewokgirl says:

        They’ll get their’s… Don’t worry. :)

      • minerva146 says:

Maybe they can be waterboarded and then tell us if they thought it was torture. In the meantime, I will try to find some horses.

        • PortlandMark says:

There’s an idea I can get behind. Or, to borrow another Abu Ghraib method, we could waterboard their children while they watch! (Even I won’t suggest doing the things that really were done to those kids.)

And, no, I can’t really get behind waterboarding children. I don’t want the kids to suffer, I just want the parents to understand how much the things they authorized hurt other kids’ parents.

      • PortlandMark says:

The rumor going around is that Bush has bought a large ranch in a South American country that has no extradition agreement with the US, and that he plans to retire there. No idea if it’s true though.

  10. Rvo says:

    Interesting, little known fact.

Congress almost always has a lower approval rating than the President, and the President almost always has a lower approval rating than the Supreme Court.

So when the President tanks, Congress tends to tank too. Dissatisfaction with government is an overall global thing. The Supreme Court is relatively unaffected, because no one cares/identifies policies with them.

  11. Ignatz says:

  12. Schmoe says:

  13. Sir Spamalot says:

Whoever replaces me isn’t going to like the surprise I left him in the bottom drawer of the Presidential desk !!!

  14. Aaaayyyy, Misty May thinks I’m HOT!

  15. Joe says:

you can hate him…but in the end…u gotta luv im…i’m gonna miss the bushisms…but not his foreign policies…he seems like a nice guy…

  16. Gizmo42 says:

God liberals crack me up. Arent you supposed to be the ones with all the tolerance and peace? All I see and hear is pure hatred for the last 8 years. Bush didnt steal the election, he won it. GET OVER IT!

Impeachment? Really? For what? Dont give that tired old “Bush lied” line either. Making a decision based on bad information you were given isnt a lie. The same info pretty much every other country in the world had as well. Dems should know very well what a lie is, Clinton was great at that. Obama seems to be taking lessons from him.

    • PortlandMark says:

      You are such a tool.

      1) Your tolerance and peace crap cracks me up. The left has a militant side to it, too. Try looking up the history of the IWW. Now *there* was a union that knew how to get things done!

      2) Bush so lied. He had bad information AND good information both, and actively suppressed the good information. He even presented congress with a white paper that was different than the one he got. They didn’t know things about Iraq that even I knew, because I was reading news reports from all over the english speaking world. You can’t possibly suggest that I’m smarter than Bush?!? (Of course, I suggest it.)

      • DeathWyrmNexus says:

I support the notion that Mark is smarter than the 5 trillion dollar man. (or whatever the debt is up to now)

I am DeathWyrmNexus and I approve this message.

  17. AC says:

How is it that, in America, you can have a democratic congress but a republican president?
It’s not like parliament, is it?

    • PortlandMark says:

The democrats regained control of congress in 2006, thanks to the public’s dissatisfaction with the republicans handling of our affairs for the preceding 12 years. The president is elected in a separate vote.

I *wish* we had a parliamentarian system!

      • AC says:

What if congress and the president do completely different things? What do you do then?

        • Jane St.Clair says:

Checks and balances. If congress passes a bill it goes to the president who has the option to veto it if he chooses. If he does veto it, it goes back to congress where they can override the veto if they have a 2/3 vote. This is, of course, extremely simplified version of the process. Basically, our founding fathers were in such fear of government they didn’t want anyone to have too much power.

          • AC says:

            Thank you!
            hmm.
            Sounds convoluted…

            • froofrou says:

It’s convoluted, but it allows us to use a system of checks and balances in order to keep from having a monarchy or a ruling system that has free reign to do what it wants. I don’t even like having Dems or Republicans in both the White House and the Congress in power at the same time. I think it should be set up that whichever party gets the White House, the other party gets the Congress.

              • PiMan says:

But that would absolutely guarantee the two party system, and keep it locked in with the current two parties. And it would potentially keep a party in that nobody wants.

                • froofrou says:

Let me simplify it even further. Whichever party has control of the White House, another party MUST be in charge of Congress, no matter what that party is. I’m not really sure how we’d do it, but I think giving control of all three branches to one party (which will happen if Obama gets in) means that we might as well move back to England and sing God Save the Queen.

                  • Athanar says:

I say we should let the Democrats and Republicans each have one person from each state in Congress and make it a normal presidential election. That way, Congress is even and the president is the only imbalance. The House of Representatives can be elected normally, too.

                    • froofrou says:

TERM LIMITS! TERM LIMITS! *pickets again* I say throw the bums out in four years before they can do any damage!!!!

                  • AC says:

                    *bleeeeech*
                    God save the queen…..
We need a new national anthem instead of a piece of old, anti jacobite, propaganda. It’s offensive to Scots too…..

                  • PortlandMark says:

Probably would be easier to move to a parliamentary system, where the PM is decide by a majority coalition of several parties, none of which have a controlling vote on their own.

                  • PiMan says:

Lets say that in some hypothetical future, a third party gains
prominence in the US. Party one gets 50% of the votes, parties two and three get 25% each (all for the presidential election).
                    Who gets congress?

                    • froofrou says:

I haven’t worked out the details. Let me live in my unrealistic utopia for a minute without interjecting actual facts just yet :-)
Besides, there isn’t a plausible senario where all the parties get the same vote at this point. It would take a while to happen because people are still in the mindset that they are just throwing their vote away if they don’t vote Dem or Repub. Hopefully by the time people figure out that their vote actually DOES count we would have a system in place to deal with the senario you just put forth.

                  • mouse says:

If one party has control of all three branches, it’s still not the same as having one person decide everything. Same-party members still disagree, right?

And what would you do, with your regulation of the parties & branches, in the case of Obama being elected and assuming that Democrats are going to gain control of everything? I mean, can you really just require some Republicans to have spots? If you were going to regulate that, wouldn’t you need some representation from other parties too?

            • PiMan says:

And a parliamentary system would seem convoluted to People from the US.
I don’t think that any one person should have the sort of power the President does, and in the parliaments themselves, there isn’t one. I mean, yes there are people with similar extents of power, but in Australia for example, it is standard that they don’t exercise that power.
