LAST!
O hai dere Mr. John McCain!!!
meaning John McCain = LAST
lol. i so funny.
Of course we are, Obama is ahead in the polls!
“If you mean ‘buying’ as in paying for, then you have no choice on the $700 billion. If you mean ‘buying’ as in ‘believing’ then I could care less. kthxbai”
the sad part is that they probably believe that we are buying their crap
xD oh my god, i love this lol so much. i find myself thinking a lot when i read some of the news…
thinking this* a lot
Nope… not buying, PAYING for. Big difference. Next question.
you sir win an internet.
Leave some for us less blunt people.
Barry O *SO* pwned McSame’s behind tonight. McSame is rude, condescending and the truth is not in his mouth. He was totes disrespectful to Obama and that alone indicates he is not suited to be President. GOBAMA.
you DO realize that Obama is not the almighty messiah you all seem to think he is, right?
Yes, only conservatives are trying to paint him as a messiah. It’s been both repetitious and pathetic, much like McCain was tonight.
I admitedly only heard the very end of it, but it sounded more like nObama had his behind handed to him by McCain.
All the conservative commentators I saw were disappointed by McCain’s performance. No one thought McCain truly excelled, which he so desperately needs when he has his behind handed to him by Obama in the polls.
We know the sky is a different color on your planet. Is sound different, too?
Shorter – you heard what you wanted to hear.
This comment was strictly for blah, btw…
All I saw was Obama’s bare butt being spanked by Daddy McCain !
Somebody needs glasses!
I’ll write you a prescription, dear.
“Senator Obama…you will probably want to hold onto that. That thing that was just handed to you was your ass.”
1) Eww. Just eww.
2) Seriously, are you hard of thinking?
3) When you hear from the real world that Grampy lost, are you just going to blame the “Mainstream Media” or will you finally realize that “Reality has a well-known liberal bias”?
Polls are giving it to Obama. America strongly disagrees with your assessment.
Obama has painted himself as the Messiah. He said the oceans stopped risong when he won the nomination. That’s some serious narcissism.
You still lack basic understanding of the English language.
Metaphor, hyperbole, rhetoric. They’re all appropriate words here.
This is not a messiah complex.
Lie moar, bot.
Not really, you need to read up on Farrakhan’s comments about Obama. He is the one that referred to Obama as the messiah, and I haven’t heard BHO denounce the comments (he may have, but I haven’t heard of any.) The Republican’s simply picked up on it and ran with it. If I was Obama I would like a racist like Farrakhan supporting me.
And the repetitious use of Messiah to describe him is offensive to Christians who believe the messiah has come also to Jews who are still waiting.
This is according to some interviews with evangelicals, not just my own opinion because I could care less what people call him as long as it ends up being Mr. President after November 4th. (Actually probably not until the 12th … I am sure the republicans will challenge and scream voter fraud as the kick their wittle feets on the ground and cry for mommy)
You mean like Algore did?
Actually, Gore didn’t. That’s where he lost my support. The rest of us knew it had been stolen, and he didn’t even stand up for himself.
That goes double for Kerry!
Well if Obama has a family member with questionable ethics running a state in which the votes get tallied incorrectly until they show a favorable result, then sure. We will pull an Al Gore and get annoyed.
I know, I know, coincidence, blah blah blah. Just call me paranoid…
Actually, we’re not waiting for a messiah. That’s YOUR team’s greatest wish. Watching McCain pander to the fundies turns my stomach.
What Obama ISN’T is a rude, condescending, eye rolling, smirking, angry, no plan man. Guess which dude is….
oooo….let me! let me!!!
..
“That One!!”
Nope. No pony for you.
I bet I can get one for my lol. Click my name! (If I’ve done it right….which I hope.)
Awesome LOL musicmom! I voted for you! I can’t wait to see SNL recreate that.
Now THAT’S a good LOL for that pic. What an expression!
I checked out the voting page for the first time yesterday and was disgusted by the total lack of funny–and I don’t mean that in the whiny, they-all-made-fun-of-my-candidate-of-choice way, I mean they were literally NOT JOKES.
The response to a LOL should be “LOL!” not “Huh?”
Be like Musicmom, people! Submit LOLs that are actually funny!
Well I am working on it dammit.
“”mother’s health”"
The air quotes … I restrained myself from throwing my soda can at the tv… but it was close.
“Pro abortion”, wtf.
Yes, I don’t need a messiah. I do, however, prefer my candidates to be truthful and respectful. Also having a clue about the important issues.
Respectful like letting people calling McCain George Wallace…
“Letting.” Hmm. The guy wasn;t even a part of the Obama campaign. How was he supposed to keep track of what just anybody is saying? He tolfd the guy he went too far…
McCain’s own running mate is telling people that Obama “pals around with terrorists.” Talk about keeping people on a leash.
I am with minerva when called about ACORN, Obama stated his case and dropped it, no “well you have ties too” (although he could have), when asked about the dude that did the bombings in the 60’s he once again just told the truth he didn’t turn it around (and point at Keaton, which is a fact not a rumor).
He stayed composed and other than getting a little riled (but kept his mouth shut and tried to play nice) about the whole people saying they would kill him at McCain/Palin campaign and nothing being said or done. He handled it as a true diplomat, and exactly like the type of person I want to represent America to the world.
EXACTLY!!! well spoken. a reply worthy of Barack Hussein Messiah Obama himself! he’s gettin my vote.
You seem confused.
OMG!!! A name means everything. Obama MUST be a terrorist. John McCain is called Jack sometimes … I bet he is a serial killer!!!
Nevermind that when Obama was named 48 years ago Saddam Hussein wasn’t any more than a whipper snapper and no one knew what the name would come to be associated with.
So, by your logic and the logic of the GOP the following statements are all true beyond shadow of doubt or argument:
If your father’s name is Sam: You kill people
If your name is Jack: You kill people
If your name is Tim or Ted: You are a terrorist
If your name is Jeffery: You kill people then eat them
The following people are all serial killers (and Canadians to boot!):
Paul, Wayne, Karla, John, Russell, Gilbert, Alan, Clifford, Robert and Peter.
.
The following people “pal around” with terrorists:

Along with many many others.
no, i was serious. i’m voting obama. he’s awesomeness incarnate! srsly.
Then please don’t call him the messiah, you make intelligent people look bad.
no, i make intelligent people look silly.
it’s how i do !
ZOMG Jellybean, you’re SUCH a terrorist!
It’s the truth, though. Obama does pal around with terrorists.
Unlike John McCain who hires Saddam Hussein’s employees to run his transition team.
Well, okay, let’s be fair: it’s only one employee.
nope, it is one for Saddam and 2 for Saudi.
I stand corrected.
Lie yet moar, bot.
What channel were you watching??????????
It was probably the trailer to Larry Flint’s new movie “Nailin’ Paylin”… He probably just had it on repeat.
I might have to get that movie…
Did you see any of the pictures that were plastered all over “teh internets”? She doesn’t even look like Ms. Palin.
Soooooo disappointed.
I loved McCain’s ZERO?!? moment.
But yeah, a more heated debate than usual.
McCain was more offensive,
but Obama was more stately and professional.
But in the end, who won is solely opinion.
Like the other debates. Its like this election is swimming in a sea of mediocrity.
Joe the Plumber. What. The. Eff.
Don’t know if the plumber came up that much since I didn’t watch the whole thing, but he was a perfect example of how Obama’s tax everyone to death plan is really just a sneaky redistribution of wealth. If he wants to be sure the people “behind” the plumber are doing ok, he needs to actually cut taxes so buisnesses can supply jobs so the people “behind” the plumber can get a job and get off welfare.
Seems to me either you have not done any fact checking, or are just ignoring the facts. All taxes are a redistribution of wealth, period, get over it. Obama’s taxes would NOT hit anyone making less than 200K, and 98% of the small businesses would be exempt from higher taxes.
Buying mortgages is not a socialist plan? Nope, not at all.
Reality check, party of blah.
I have some problem giving credence to people who have trouble spelling in a public forum. It’s “businesses”. And, Obama’s tax plan includes tax reductions for everyone making under $250,000, including small businesses. How exactly is that a “tax to death plan” and a “sneakly redistribution of wealth”? The corporate tax rate may be the second highest in the world (as McCain states) but the many exemptions and loopholes mean that most large businesses pay much less than the stated rate.
For me the issue comes down to one simple idea. Whom ever is elected is going to have an extremely difficult four years. After all a president cannot do anything wihtout congress but inspire and lead. These next years are going to require much careful consideration and caution. And I want a president who doesn’t embarass my country in front of the rest of the world. Who is calm under pressure and can speak in complete sentences.
Applause!
Why not a flat tax rate ? Then no one would be punished for succeeding ?
Excellent solution! But can you imagine getting THAT through congress?
Because a “flat tax” is regressive.
Effectively, the less you make, the more you pay.
It’s not “punished for succeeding”, it’s about:
1) Not overburdening the poor, who are still struggling to take care of their families.
1A) No, the poor aren’t all poor because they’re lazy drug addicts.
2) Having the well off repay the nation for the services and infrastructure they used to become well to do.
3) Having the well off pay for their ongoing use of the commons; the wealthiest among us use a *much* higher amount of our government services than do the less well off. Roads, police and fire protection, the court system: those who have get unequal access to these things compared to those who haven’t, and they should rightly pay more.
4) How about: if you are really a patriot, you should have no problem paying for the investments in education and infrastructure that are the cornerstone of what makes our country great. If you aren’t, I really don’t believe you have any business using our nation to protect you and your wealth.
I cannot accept your premise that paying higher taxes simply because I make more money is patriotic. I think it’s unfair. And I say this as a person NOT making more money than everyone else.
Rich people get more benefit from government services than the rest of us. They should pay for it. Who’s property is the fire department protecting? The poor don’t own any, why should they pay for fire protection? Who’s property are the police protecting? Nobody steals from the poor, and if they do, the cops don’t care. Who benefits most from our infrastructure, the business owner with thousands of vehicles driving on our roads, or the poor man who doesn’t own a car? Who benefits most from our social stability, the rich who need that stability to realize consistent gain on investments, or the poor who don’t see any social stability at all. These are but a few examples of the rich benefiting more from government.
Yes, agreed. It’s patriotic to support spending on infrastructure and Education. Those things make up the most of our nation’s future. They should be heavily invested in.
If I were making more money than everybody else, I personally wouldn’t mind paying a bit extra to ensure the strength of the nation for the next generation. That is what our founding fathers wanted all along.
Or, he could raise taxes on the business but cut taxes for the customers, who then spend more at the business. The little guys has more money to spend, boosting the economy, and the businesses have more customers, so they invest their profits back into their own business rather than betting on some mortgage backed hedge fund pyramid scam.
–
Face it, your trickle down my leg voodoo economics tripe has been proven to fail, again and again, and mainstream America is no longer buying it. The average, normal American is ready for some demand side policies. We are done with supply side, thanks to the neo-cons spectacular failures it will be generations before anyone is dumb enough to try that again.
–
Good job, Bush and company, you did even we liberals could not do: you destroyed Ronald Reagan’s legacy. Thanks.
The freaking plumber isn’t even registered to vote
And he isn’t even a licensed plumber in Ohio! Epic fail!
Nor is he in the market to buy out any businesses. He was a plant from the start. Otherwise, how would the man who “inadvertently” became the subject of the debate already be on Nightline that same night and on other news programs the next day!?!?!
Huh? A plant? Obama was knocking on doors — maybe he should have vetted the people he was talking to better.
The news organizations smell blood, and they can get people onto their shows pretty quickly. They have reporters following the candidates around, and someone who doesn’t agree would have to be memorable to the reporters following them around.
The same night. After nobody supposedly knew he was going to be a centerpiece of the debate discussion. Right.
Either way, McCain didn’t properly vet him, as per usual, so it backfired.
Except for right now the “redistribution of wealth” is happening anyway–or is it okay when it’s all going to Haliiburton?
ZERO????????????????
Also, was McCain trying to blink out a morse code message or what?
Absolutely. And Obie was “Uh”-ing out one himself. Dueling telegraphist WIN!
P.S.: Check out your primate body language. Eyeblinking is a sign of aggression.
Lots of commentators talked about how McCain’s temper was barely in check. Is that presidential?
Karl Rove wrote off Howard Dean in 2002? 2003? because of his temper, saying that Americans would never elect an angry president. A retarded monkey, yes, but not an angry president.
What would be cool is if McCain suddenly turned green and started smashing things about. That may make up the voting support deficit. Hell, it’d impress me and I can’t stand the man.
McCain SMASH!!
It worked for Gary Powers
“But in the end, who won is solely opinion.”
–
Fortunately, we can measure opinions. When we do so, we find that in the opinions of an average cross section of Americans who watched the debate, Obama won.
Still solely opinion
But seriously, there were two things from the debate I liked,
and they came from both sides. Ayers and ACORN connections were SHUT DOWN.
And The McSame, McBush BS finally got squashed. NOW, we can have an election
about the issues, which is what we all need.
McCain brought him up 21 effing times.
Was he a plant?
Now he’s making statements for McCain’s ads. Could it be any more obvious?
He was always a plant. He was on nightline that same night. Check out my link. The dude isn’t even a plumber.
Here is another link about him from BBC
Ah yes, the good old loony-left paranoia.
Yes, real news sources defy your understanding, clearly
So it’s confirmed that he’s plant? LOL, what a trainwreck, McCain. What. A. Trainwreck.
There is even a rumor flying round that the guy is related to Charles Keating. However, I haven’t posted anything on that as it’s yet to be confirmed. In spite of what some have said, I do try to check out my facts before I use them as a FACT.
And no, I didn’t bring it up so I can try to pass that bit off as fact. I thought that part was funny.
Here is an official AP story covering the guy.
He is the Grandson-in-law of Charles Keating. Any doubt whether or not he’s a plant now?
EPIC.
Based on the number of right-wing Nazis in these forums, you’d be surprised to find their contributions to the good pictures on this site lacking. Then you realize, “revisionist” conservatives have no sense of humor. That’s why they are so angry about people having rights and blame the stock market problems on democrats when the source of this whole problem is the fault of the Conservative Jesus, Reagan, whose massive deregulation led to predatory lending, (the Fed doesn’t control the interest rate anymore! They just “suggest” it! FAIL!) among other fiascos. The pathetic thing is, conservatives are so stupid they’ll believe anything their overlords tell them, and are too concerned with the fact that a dark-skinned person might move in next door that they willingly vote for the vipers whose actions have brought on the foreclosures of their houses. Democracy FAIL.
Solutions:
1. Intellegence tests at the polls to control these animals
and
2. Everyone who supports the war effort raises their hand, get a gun, shoddy armor and a street legal Humvee, and go of to Iraq. It’ll be like the rapture, instead all the people with the right beliefs stay, and the sinful devils die in a hopeless war.
ps. don’t both to comment, because I’m not checking back…
And you’re better how, exactly? For someone who thinks prejudice is bad, you sure are a bigoted ass.
Oh I missed the “I’m not coming back” comment. You’re also a coward.
Better a right winger than Liberal frigging Communist. You’ve already got the media controlled to tell nothing but stories of ” Glorious Shiny Leader, the Annointed One ( by the press),Evil America which shall be freed by Obama and his thought Police”. Reads like the English translation of the North Korean newspaper, except replace Kim Jung with Barry Hussein.
Man, Obama could take a chain saw to a bunch of infants and the press would praise him for using an environmentally friendly four stroke engine.
dude, go find some lightning.
you win an internet
I will toss in a rabid bandicoot too. So an internet and a rabid bandicoot. Just think of the possibilities.
Does the rabies add or subtract power from its spin attack?
They add Champions of Norath style disease damage.
Can they wield a two-stroke or electric chainsaw?
Yes and yes. Just add Mummy tongue for extra disease damage. Also grants more Mojo.
Yes, and maybe some Melf’s acid arrow
It’s sticky and keeps on giving.
I’m such a nerd.
No more than me, sweets.
Well, I didn’t say I wasn’t proud of the fact.
Actually, I’m pretty sure chainsaws use a two stroke engine.
Again, who is doing the majority of the deifying of Obama??? *ding ding ding* Still the conservatives. Also, we’ve been over the facts that there is no liberal bias in the media and hasn’t been in a LOOOOONNGGG time. Put your tin foil hat back on.
I wish I could remember the name of the Dem who at one point called Barack “The Magic Negro” and then denied it when it came back on him. He is viewed as the saviour of the party in some ways. While I can’t stand his policies and I will be voting as far away from him as I can get, I will admit that the man has a certain style and manner of carrying himself that does defy definition
Rather like Clinton in his day. That’s the only reason I ddin’t lose respect for Hillary for not knocking the crap out of Bill the day after the Lewinski thing hit. He probably sweet talked her out of it
I looked it up. The only reference to “Barack โThe Magic Negroโ ” was from a disgusting song parody made for the Rush Limbaugh show.
It was before that. Hang on, let me see if I can find it……
Found it! Click the name.
This is Biden, January 30th, 2007, in an interview with The Observer.
BIDEN: I mean, you got the first sorta mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice looking guy.
Sharpton, aformer presidential candidate, nonetheless took issue with the notion that Barack Obama was the first “articulate” and “clean” mainstream African American candidate for president. He asked Biden if that’s what he said.
“Al, that’s exactly what I said,” (Biden) said.
People like to rip Palin, but Biden is a Retard. I’m sorry that’s unfair to the developmental disability.
But Palin’s got retardation in her genes.
That’s still not the same as the slur contained in the song.
It’s the same in that it was completely derogatory no matter how you look at it. Looking down on someone is looking down on someone regardless of the way its said. Some people are just a little more blunt about it than others. Joe Biden has said so many derogatory things about his own running mate that a song from a radio program pales in comparison.
Oh, for pete’s sake… Learn at least -some- of the political theory you’re bleating about, would you? Communist? The United States doesn’t even have a liberal party.
The only way Obama can be classed as “liberal” is by contrasting him with the ultra-conservative wack-jobs currently running the republican party. He’s still -considerably- both right (conservative) and authoritarian of a center position.
McCain “the ultra-conservative”…
Is that grape or cherry flavored cool-aid your drinking?
He wasn’t an ultra-conservative until he sold his soul for a shot at the oval office. People who used to respect him as his own man now claim that he is not the John McCain they knew.
ATT and Verizon both put free cell towers on McCain’s land and contribute a lot of money to his campaign. Sounds like he has 2 more huge companies bowing to him.
McCain was awesome back in 2000. Now he’s just a partisan shill.
“Youโve already got the media controlled”
Seriously dude? One of our largest defense contractors, GE, is the owner of NBC, and the others are similarly owned by huge multinational corporations. Explain to me how they’re liberal supporters again?
You are a shining example of the delusional ‘thinking’ of conservatives. There is no liberal press in America, just as there is no liberal party. There are extreme right wingers and there are centrists. The media is owned and edited by conservatives. All major channels except MSNBC are conservative. The media has a vested interest in keeping this a close race, to get more viewers, so they essentially lie about McCain to make him seem more plausible than he really is.
–
I’m proud to be a liberal socialist (not communist, I do believe in some private property.) Looking at other first world nations, one can’t help but notice the success of socialism in comparison with deregulated market capitalism. Not to say the free market doesn’t have it’s place, but that place is not in providing necessities like food, shelter, or health care any more than it is in providing fire protection, roads, police, or courts.
A Socialist is just a nice name for a communist……..
What’s in a name? You chose a god’s name and look at you!
You don’t even know what socialism or communism are. You don’t even know how or if they differ from capitalism. You certainly don’t know that the happiest, most prosperous nations in the world are capitalist nations with socialist institutions installed. You, “my friend”, are ignorant.
Internet fail, all of you. You replied to a post that started with “right wing Nazis”. Godwin’s law! Lawbreakers! Malcontents! Ne’er-do-wells! I ought to throw all of you in internet prison.
And from there it just degenerated into a bunch of trolling. “Rawr, righties suck”. Remember: Godwin’s law exists for a reason. If you don’t know it, look it up.
*snork* Goodwin’s Law is more like a law of averages; you can’t fight it.
You don’t know Godwin’s Law. Look it up. All it says is, the longer a conversation goes on, the more likely someone is to mention Hitler. It doesn’t say that this is a good or bad thing. It doesn’t say what to do about it. It just says that, given enough time, every thread on the Internet will eventually reference Hitler or the Nazis.
Yes, but linked by implication is the fallacy of reductio ad Hitlerum. Calling people on reductio ad Hitlerum doesn’t sound nearly as much fun as invoking the law, though, so I prefer to just leave the logical fallacy implied when I call upon Godwin’s law.
Very well. Thread starting now… Topic.
My wang…. GO!!!
Apparently my wang attracts no attention. So far so good on avoiding Godwin.
Your wang is a Nazi and…
Wow, they were right. That didn’t take long at all.
Damn… Well we tried. Better luck next wang discussion.
If the Zee germans dont show up.
Um, everybody wang chung tonight?
I’m amazed that John McCain couldn’t keep Autism and Down Syndrome clear in his mind, and that he seems to think all Early Childhood Education is HeadStart. Or that he hasn’t really read the research on ECE beyond a few newspaper headlines. Other than being sorely ill-informed on issues that matter to me, he just came across as an ass in general.
And he has some nerve suggesting that Sarah is now an expert on children with special needs because she’s had one for 5 or 6 months, after she cut funding for them in AK. Won’t someone please buy him a clue??!!
You’d be surprised how quickly you become and expert when it’s your own child with the problem. I’m not saying she has an honorary degree or anything, but I’m sure she knows more than the average bear.
Oh, I hear she’s a fast learner.
(But you’re right, of course, about caring parents learning all they can.)
That makes her an expert-of-sorts in the field of children with her child’s special needs. I have a fiancรฉe with epilepsy, and I know quite a bit about it. But it doesn’t mean I’m knowledgable in, say, Huntington’s.
So she’s smarter than than the av-er-age bear, boo boo?
Only if she’d like to go get a pic-a-nic basket!
I would guess her daughters know more than she doies. They seem to be the ones taking care of him.
That’s a little more of a high-horse comment than I usually see from you, jellybeans. I took care of my little sister when my mother was otherwise occupied. And my own daughter is being watched by a babysitter since I am at my job right now. Just because a child is watched over by another older sibling or a babysitter doesn’t mean that child isn’t cared for by its mother.
You become an expert very quickly indeed whenever it’s your own family. That’s the conservative way – damn it until it happens to you, then claim it as a deep personal concern. Cheyney & his daughter, Palin & her son and pregnant daughter, and all those fine upstanding family-values folk who tell you it’s disgusting until it happens to them. Then they’re different, of course, it’s not a punishmnet visited on them, nah, it’s ‘life happens’.
I’ve been enjoying listening very hard to hear the conservatives refraining those ‘family values’ they were once so fond of. Apparently the only family values left untouched are those of the good ole shotgun wedding.
You’re equating being a semi expert on your own Down Syndrome baby with something else entirely. I never said anything about any of the other things you mention. And you’re assuming that they don’t still condemn the behavior that got their children into the messes that they’re in. My best friend is gay. He knows I don’t approve, but I would never ‘put him out’ because of it. One of the tenants of Christianity is that you accept the people, but not the behavior.
WHY WEREN’T YOU TALKING ABOUT MY WANT?! WE COULD HAVE HELD OFF NAZIS!!!
… -_-
That was supposed to be wang, not want. Stupid traitor fingers.
While your wang is definitely appealing, it’ll never be mine except in the far nether regions of cyber space
Alas!
It was gross for him to seemingly think that autism and Downs Syndrome were somehow the same thing. How is he going to help those families when he said spending freeze again? Help them how? Hold hands and sing? They are also the kids who also need early childhood education! I’d fire the staffer whose job it was to make sure he got that right.
I don’t like defending him but … He wasn’t talking about Palin’s son as far as I could tell. She does have an autistic nephew and Autism is kind of a hot topic now with people claiming it is caused in some cases by vaccines. From what I read a lot of people are approaching both candidates asking what they would do if elected to promote research and look for cures.
Thank you! I wondered if I was the only one who picked up on that autism/Down syndrome mix-up.
i watched it from here down under, my impressions are: McCain, lacking the policies needed and being part of the party that ruined the US is trying to distance himself from his own party and relying WAAAY too heavily on emotional crap. he’s obviously grown extreemly desperate in his attempts to regain popularity. Obama was trying very hard not to look too amateur and really didn’t know how to respond to McCain’s constantly misleading and deceitful claims.
the picture sumed up the debate very well indeed, i can only see the die-hard republican sheep voting for McCain…
And here’s the thing about that, with McCain taking the emotional appeal: He takes everything Obama says that people like, finds some reason to slander him for it, waits a couple of weeks, then makes it his own.
He swapped the elitist/underdog labels with him when Obama held the lead for nearly 2 months straight. Obama talks about changing business as usual, so McCain accuses him of being unable to do so… then says he’s going to change business as usual instead.
Aside from that, there’s the fact that McCain thinks we’re going to continue spending as usual on the efforts in Iraq, increase spending in other fields, and not increase taxes. Sure, makes him look good, and the next President after him looks like a jerk for having to increase taxes to pay off the $10+ Trillion Dollar National Debt.
Meanwhile, Obama is talking about reworking the federal budget spending, but he’s too much of an amateur to have any good ideas (or he’s been part of the problem for too long… even though you have to play the game to change the rules). He wants to increase taxes, because he knows we need to in order to just hold steady during the redistribution of spending, and he’s evil (how dare you make us pay the government for roads and public education and law enforcement . . .). He wants to cut further into the national debt in order to generate jobs and access immediate funds for the redistribution, and suddenly he has no sense of what he’s talking about. You know, even though he has a plan for the money, unlike Bush and Paulson with their magical bailout (i.e.: 8 years’ worth of domestic economic spending packed into one bill).
Tangentially, I’d also like to add: Seeing Russia from your window (which is only true if she lives on the west coast) has nothing to do with foreign policy experience. Stop it.
Very nice sum up of the McCain campaign
(liberal golf clap) pat pat pat
That’s NOT how liberal’s clap.
It’s ok. Thor has his name wrong anyway. In mythology, the real Thor was a champion for the people. So he’d be a democrat. ;D He is confused.
I’ll say…
The fun part of the debate was whenever McCain happened upon an opportunity to repeat, verbatim, one of his well drilled lies from the stump speeches, and he’d get all excited, like a kid vibrating with “Oooh! I know this one!” glee.
They need some new ones, though. How many times did he say “He wants to raise taxes – during a time of such economic hardship!”
By now, there are Reindeer Herders in Arctic Russia who can recite the answer to this one, verbatim: “My tax plan will reduce income taxes for 95% of Americans. If you’re making less than $250,000, you won’t see a dime in tax increases.”
I do think Obama missed a lot of opportunities.
I think the predictable lying ACORN rant could have been met with something like “The real question is ‘Who cares?’ Perhaps Senator McCain doesn’t understand the difference between “election fraud” and fraudulent registrations. So a homeless worker fraudulently registers Mickey Mouse, and ACORN officials report it – And let’s not forget that that’s how these state agencies know some forms were filled out badly… ACORN reported them, separated them, flagged them, and then turned them in, as the law requires. Do you think Mickey is really going to show up on election day and vote, Senator?”
He could have answered any one of McCain’s “He wants to raise taxes!” bleats with something like “Senator, I’ll bet, by now, just about any member of the audience could tell you I plan to cut taxes for 95% of Americans. No matter how many times you repeat the opposite, it still won’t be true.”
He could have answered the health care “tax credit” less professorially… “So, Senator McCain wants to give you $5000 to try to pay for $12,000 worth of insurance, and then tax it. Maybe that’s why even traditionally conservative groups like the Chamber of Commerce think his plan is a bad idea.”
All in all, though, we knew going into it that “do no harm” was effectively an Obama win, and we got that at very least. Probably more.
I was proud of him, and that is exactly why I like him, he didn’t take those shots. He didn’t need to, and he showed character that I would be proud of in any situation.
He’s a tool and you know it
Something we can use to fix our broken country? Yeah, I want a tool like that. But not like you. I have a feeling your tool is too small to fix much of anything.
You’re a tool and we know it.
McCain really didn’t look comfortable with his own smear-style talking points. I don’t think he really wanted to run a campaign like this. Or a running mate like this. But he bowed to party politics and well, you campaign with the people you have…or the ones the lobbyists assign to you, I guess.
I thought McCain did a lot better this time out. He came out swinging and pressed the attack. Obama is pretty bad at defending against direct assaults; he tends toward civility, which is no use in a brawl like this debate turned out to be.
Still, McCain’s tendency to promise pie-in-the-sky results without so much as a nod toward reality is his downfall. Obama is more of a realist, and that makes him a lot more believable.
Also, McCain’s reliance on barefaced “assertions” (an avalanche of lies, I thought at the time, but let’s be charitable) to make up his attacks was a little transparent. McCain’s saying so doesn’t make it so, and I think the viewing public is a little too savvy to take all his claims at face value. His base will be a lot happier though, and he’ll probably see a better result in their turnout because of it.
I didn’t see any big wins for Obama, but he was on defense anyway. I suspect his 10 point lead will fall to around 7 or so, but the election is all his.
Agreed. At least on all your points up until the lies, anyway. I really don’t know where I stand on those “claims” and their amount of truth or lack of it…
The lies are easy to uncover with a little research.
I’ve got a Chem test tomorrow. Someone else do it. ;P
Spoken like a true republican
In congress… Sexual congress.
I’m no Republican, but do I really sound like one? Yeesh. =/
Or is it just the fact that I don’t believe everything one campaign spoonfeeds me and dismiss everything from the other campaign?
Nope, I research before I present anything here as fact, and so do many others.
Or at least we’d like to believe. Where are your facts?
On a more serioius note, I haven’t seen proof of it one way or the other no matter how much I look. I see sites that present it as fact both ways, so what’s a guy supposed to believe? As it stands, the issue, while it could hold water, is more than likely just a smear. I’m basing that on a knowledge of politicians and the fact that it just doesn’t seem feasible that such a thing would make him anything less than worthy of being where he is right now in the campaign.
Which issue are you referring to?
“The lies” in general. The Ayers mess for one. Any of the things n8 would construe as an avalanche of lies, basically.
I really think its the phenomenon of “I’m looking at this and seeing what I want to see because my mind is already made up”. There is a lot of passion on this website for both sides, and it seems that both sides are using some of the same arguments. The undecideds are going to decide this presidential race (is that even possible?????
), but they haven’t been grabbed by either side. So we’re screwed no matter which way we look at it, because neither candidate has been able to ‘close the deal’ when it comes to a decent lead one way or another. You can tout the 5-7 point lead that Obama has and try to rub it in my face, but Reagan was behind in 1980 (and I believe by the same number of points until he won in a landslide), and there haven’t been many races this close to the election that have been polled as closely. I loved statistics in college because you can make them say whatever you want them to say. A big enough margin of error will keep you from looking like a fool no matter how you slice it, and a 3% plus or minus is a REALLY big margin. Now, having said all this, I don’t believe that McCain is going to win in a landslide because he has pissed off too many of the fundamentals who would give him the presidency. But I also don’t believe that Obama needs to be making plans to rent out the biggest outdoor venue to date for his election night party. They both need to do something different to sway the masses.
You speak so much sense. It’s like I could just hug you right now.
Hugs and beer for everyone!!!!
Um, real sources are given. Not from biased places like blogs, etc, but from actual news and information sites. Oh, that’s right there’s that liberal media bias that’s been disproved many times over. Who besides McCain has been lying about Ayers?
Its sad that on the question of the negative aspects – McSame had a great opportunity to refute what was being said, apologise and ask that it doesnt continur – im sure that could have regained some of his lost support (and self respect). Burt no – Ayers Ayers Ayers , Acorn Acorn Acorn. Hes a piece of work.
Like your grammar.
I wished they had pressed a bit more on the running mates readiness to step into their shoes though.
By now, I think I’m just voting for McCain so I can “told ya so!” if and when Obama flubs up over the next four years. I don’t like to say it’s inevitable, but it’s looking like an Obama win, I don’t care which party or set of ideals you align yourself with.
—
That’s not to say he’d be particularly bad or anything. I just don’t think either of them are really up to snuff. Neither of them or what we really need in a president – especially right now. We left the good candidates in the dust in favor of these two (Hillary -not- being one of those good candidates, mind you.) and we’re going to suffer for it, from the looks of things.
—
I’ll be thinking that until someone can prove to me otherwise. And I hope I’m wrong.
I would be very surprised if Hilary doesn’t get a pretty important cabinet position in an Obama presidency.
Under the desk……………….
You kiss your mother with that mouth? I bet she’s really, really proud of you.
So you’re voting for McCain just so you can secure potential future trolling? Wow.
Not really, obviously. If I did that all my “voters need to actually pay attention” rants would be meaningless. To oversimplify my ACTUAL views, I can’t stand either of them, but I can’t stand McCain less. Make more sense now, or would you still like to jump to conclusions?
See, the thing is, MANY more voters than usual ARE paying attention. There are a lot of people who never knew politics to save their life REALLY REALLY paying attention. They care because their lives have been all screwed up by the current administration and they want a leader that can take steps toward leading them back to solvency, erasing some of the divisiveness and hate that has been breeding, getting rid of crony-ism, etc. The list goes on. People paying attention realize that John McCain can not give those things because he will continue the same policies for another four years if elected.
I want some cronies… T_T
I never get to have shady deals.
Now that’s forethought! We’ll all be able to look back at this post and say, Goshdarnit if he wasn’t right!
Great way to vote. Almost as good as voting for the current dimbulb because you thought he’d be a great guy to have a beer with.
You too? Read my reply to ck if you will. Some people… I swear.
My opinion is that Mccain won the last debate, on the grounds of being passionate, and on the offensive, while pulling in voters. But personally i think Obama won on substance. He adressed every issue brought up very well, but i only wish he could have been a little more offensive on the issue of Ayers and ACORN. It’s about time he put those stupid claims of palling around with terrorists and stuff to rest.
Only morons believe he “pals around with terrorists” and there’s no point wasting time trying to convince them otherwise. Obama is better off focusing on the actual issues.
Still, it’d be good because then the undecided voters that have a shadow of a doubt with his “relations” can finally see how silly all of it is.
I have four words for those morons:
Ex post facto laws
