      Right?

        History would say yes.

        • DeathWyrmNexus says:

Technically true. Balance of power. It is why places with more registered gun ownership have lower rates of crime in my experience. If you know they have a gun, you are less likely to want to bust in there and risk a bullet.

                • Robert says:

You mean like “Republicans will take away your rights and arrest you fro protesting!”? How about “George Bush is spying on Americans!”? “Global warming is destroying the planet!”? “If you don’t vote (Democrat), crosses will burn and the EEEEEEEEvil Republicans will take away your school lunches (1998 Democrat campaign ad).”? All involve the use of “FEAR FEAR FEAR FEAR” to try to gin up anti-republican support.

                  • Stephanie says:

I wasn’t aware people were protesting ‘fros.

(Sorry, that was just there. I do sort of agree though – if I read it correctly.)

              • Freep says:

Bill Ayers. He’s sort of an incompetent McVeigh.

                • ice_army says:

                  Ha! I loled.

                • Jamieteevee says:

I grew up in Oklahoma. My father was a first responder to the Murrah building and had to carry the corpses of children. Do not EVER compare a war protester who blew up statues to a MASS MURDERER! Timothy McVeigh was a Christian, a gun rights activist, a white power elitist and a Right Wing Republican. Bill Ayers blew up statues, quote “Ayers participated in planting a bomb at a statue dedicated to riot police casualties in the 1886 Haymarket Riot confrontation between labor supporters and the police” It was a symbol of the government using militant force to keep the common man from having a voice. Bill Ayers was destructive but he NEVER targeted a human being.

                  • Rorsc says:

He had a weird thing for Pentagon toilets though !

                  • fe-lady says:

You are so wrong here…he targeted secretaries in the pentagon. The chicken shit.

                  • ewokgirl says:

Timothy McVeigh was a Christian, a gun rights activist, a white power elitist and a Right Wing Republican

Should say “pretended to be a Christian”. Does anyone here know what a Christian is? Pretty sure that gun totin’, cross burnin’ and rights crushin’ aren’t part of the bible. I mean we all make mistakes and I’m not shoving my religon down your throats but PLEASE don’t lump Christ in with the likes of them. I do agree however that most people who claim to be Christian could really care less about God or Christ and in reality would rather falsify the appearance of being Christian because that’s what the rest of the moms from their tupperware parties do…. Yes, I’m judging even though it’s not my place.

If I’m wrong and there is no God then I’ve lived a decent life as a good person, if you’re wrong and there is… you’re kinda screwed.

                    • markmier says:

                      Mohandas Gandhi:
I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.

                    • tmac says:

your logic works in theory, but as there is no agreed upon interpretation of the bible, there can not really be any ‘true’ christian. therefore it comes down to what you consider yourself to be. Timothy McVeigh, as i understand it, considered himself a christian, its unfortunate, because most people’s interpretation of the bible (i would hope) does not support his, and it gives Christianity a bad name.
on the other side of the coin, its happening in the Islamic world too. just as there are divisions in the christian church, its the same in Islam. there are people who commit terrible acts in Allah’s name that aren’t necessarily justified by the Qur’an

                      • tmac says:

to conclude the above point, its probably worth our time not to group certain peoples together but instead realise the diversity inherit in all things.

                    • Jamieteevee says:

Christian no longer means “follower of Christ’s teachings”. It does mean, however, a strong conviction in the Christian church of your choice. No, I am not “kind of screwed”. Any self-righteous asshole who uses violence or judgmental ism against someone who does not measure up to their personal idea of that same religeon is likely to be sorry. I think that if there is a “God” and that he actually has time for anoy of the countless quadrillions of sentients in the universe at any given moment, that god would fell insulted by the allegience of the sick and violent ideologues that clamor for God’s attention.

                      • Jamieteevee says:

AAAAGGGH I hate this comment program. What I wrote was so much more comprehendable than that.
                        Oh well. Suss it out!

                • true, , but then again, McVeigh was a Republican!

Unless they kill hundreds of people. Then they are Presidents, Dictators or Mass Murderers. Actually, they can be all three.

                  • Robert says:

So was Martin Luther King-what’s your point? Robert Byrd, high up mucky much in the KKK is a democrat. Top tier, in fact.

                    • Jamieteevee says:

On Robert Byrd. “When running for the United States House of Representatives in 1952, he announced “After about a year, I became disinterested, quit paying my dues, and dropped my membership in the organization. During the nine years that have followed, I have never been interested in the Klan.”
It appears that as soon as he cast his eye to the world around him he grew aware of the despicable nature of the KKK and quit them.

          • D'oh says:

First show me direct, scientific evidence for the link between gun ownership and lower crimerates ;) Because you can easely say that because criminals know people can have guns, they will carry guns as well.

            • DeathWyrmNexus says:

I do believe I stated that it was personal experience. As for criminals carrying guns, last I checked they did that whether or not their victims are armed.

              • D'oh says:

Ofcourse, personal experience, I should’ve read better :) But keep in mind to not value such experience too much, the world out there is much much better ;)
But when I see documentaries featuring ex-burglars and the likes, I notice 1 thing: similair to encounters with dangerous animals (bears, spiders, snakes, etc), the burglar is usually the one who wants to avoid conflict the most and runs away the fastest. It looks like a burglar would rather choose Nike running shoes over a 9mm ;)

                • DeathWyrmNexus says:

Good, my gun will help him keep running. Also you seem to be missing some details about dangerous animals. When they get spooked, they tend to lash out before running. Snakes do it, bears do it, tigers do it, mountain lions do it, spiders do it, etc, etc. They run if they can but if you are already too close before you see it, they will take a swipe or few at you before running.

As for your documentaries, I have seen documentaries where people have used guns to prevent crimes peacefully. Also, not all people going into your house are there to steal. Sooooo, I will take my chances with a leveled playing field than disarm myself and gamble.

I would rather have a gun and not need than need a gun and not have it. Be prepared is a great motto.

                  • Robert says:

                    It’s like a seat belt!

                    • DeathWyrmNexus says:

Tis my thinking. Why on Earth would ANYBODY want to count on the generosity and consideration of somebody committing a crime AGAINST YOU?

                      I just never understand that.

                    • tmac says:

guns are not like seat belts. seat belts save lives, guns take them.

                      • Evil Pundit says:

Guns can save lives too, when used in defence against aggressors.

                        • tmac says:

for clarification, how do you use guns in defense?

                        • froofrou says:

If you come toward me or a member of my family in order to do harm, then my gun will come to my defense as it will be held pointing in your direction with a bullet in the chamber.
I hate the notion that guns kill people. Cars kill people. Matches kill people. Tree branches irresponsibly cut from low hanging trees kill people. All are completely harmless when used properly, and are only as dangerous as the hands in which they are held. And if I see your hand coming toward me with a gun in it, better believe that my gun will go off first in defense of my life.

            • Robert says:

Ummm…criminals carry guns anyway. It’s the definition of a criminal “someone who breaks laws”?

          • PiMan says:

In the US, maybe, but elsewhere in the world that just isn’t true. Most developed countries have lower gun ownership and lower crime.

            • Rorsc says:

Uh-Huh……..Got some statistics on that lie?

            • Robert says:

Actually, most countries with low gun ownership (especially Australia and the UK) have much higher rates of violent crime. The exception is Japan, but in Japan the police have the right to roll up to your house twice a year and check for contraband. States w/high gun ownership (Canada, for instance) have very low crime rates. And then of course there’s Switzerland, where all members of the militia (males age 18-…36, I believe) take their M-16’s home with them. Switzerland has no crime.

Oh, and my dad used to work for LASO…he said every time someone blew away an armed robber, armed robbery dropped off to zero for a few weeks.

              • PiMan says:

Where are you finding your statistics? Australia, while by no means crime free, is not as bad as the US.

              • tmac says:

what i disagree with most pro-gun people is that they’re more than happy to take someone else’s life as long as they are not harmed…
in your example, you seem to support the idea that its justified to kill someone’s son or daughter if there’s a temporary reprieve in armed robbery. while i don’t disagree with you, it seems a little irrational..

              • SpartanCanuck says:

The Swiss wouldn’t give their troops a POS like the M16 (it would never pass their army’s reliability standards). They issue the Stgw ‘90. Very nice piece of kit. You might know it as the SIG SG550). He is not provided with his weapon so that he might blow away a burglar, but because he is a soldier subject potentially to immediate call-up. The weapon is a responsibility, not a right. He is subject to inspection of his weapon, and it can certainly be taken away if he is making inappropriate use of it (which amounts to pretty much anything but training to defend Switzerland).

Canada might have a fairly high level of gun ownership, but except for folks doing so illegally, we’re not carrying for personal defense (not considered a valid reason to own a firearm). People own weapons for sport shooting, hunting, or pest control. Naturally, the vast majority of legal weapons are hunting rifles and shotguns – very few own pistols or AR’s. Firearm owners are expected to keep their weapons locked away when not actually using them for hunting, pest control, or range shooting. Keeping a firearm under the shop counter to blow away an armed robber is illegal. Meanwhile, most of the shootings seem to be between gangs – yahoos with guns targeting other yahoos with guns.

In either case, you will need to find sociological reasons apart from ‘lots of guns’ as to why Canada or Switzerland really have low crime rates. There are different cultural attitudes in both countries over the ‘coolness’ of violence. Inter-cultural tension is generally less problematic. The Swiss militia culture certainly deserves a bit of credit for the manner in which it molds their young men to be protectors of their society rather than predators upon it. And it certainly can’t escape notice that both countries have less oppressive levels of poverty and more comprehensive social safety nets than the United States does.

“They make a desert and call it peace.”

Wish I knew who said that first.

  4. Yumi says:

I want to look at her as yet another political mistake, but I can’t help but stare at her picture all wide-eyed n sht. She really is that hot.

    • um says:

she is only that hot because shes up there with 90 shriveled up old white men.

    • Lallz says:

Her mouth looks dodgy in this picture though. The other day, checking out the news they’d caught a picture of her stepping off a plane, her hair being blown around by the wind, her mouth just slightly open and smiling, but not forced …
      Crush? Maybe slightly.

  5. Rorsc says:

Far, far better than the hag Hillary. Why are there no good looking Democrat women ? And don’t say Pelosi !!!!!!!!

    • Psilence says:

Not many good-looking democratic men, either…
Really, there aren’t many attractive politicians, imo

    • bittervoter says:

Um Barbara Lee? Barabara Boxer? And for the record, while there are some awfully unflattering pictures of Hillary, I think she’s a perfectly good looking lady. Most importantly, why do we scrutinize the attractiveness of female politicians more than male politicians?

      • brewski says:

Adriana Huffington isn’t terrible to look at.

      • DeathWyrmNexus says:

Because we are still all animals and while heterosexual men have inclination to look for beauty, women are taught to be competitive with each other. So both genders have reason to judge on those guidelines. Men have become rather neutral unless they are good looking. Then you have some Hot or Not voters.

        • bittervoter says:

True, however, I think it behooves us all to pause when we find ourselves doing that, and queston why and if it’s appropriate. It’s not like I’ve never caught myself making snide remarks about a female politician’s choice of outfit or whatever, but then my feminist bones kick in and I remember that really, attractiveness has little to do with competence or ability to lead.

        • uh huh says:

I have a better explanation. Because men are sexist pigs who see women as meat. You just pretend to be offended when some random third-world Muslim cleric comes out and says it explicitly.

Women also “have inclination to look for beauty” or we wouldn’t be continually bombarded with these stupid stereotypes about women liking frills and lace and bright colors and home decor. As for men being competitive… don’t get me started.

          • froofrou says:

The last few posts of yours that I have read make me think you need a chill pill. Are you this bitter in real life or are you amping it up a bit to make friends? Cuz I’ll be your friend :-) /end priggish behavior and step off my high horse.

    • PdeV says:

Whatever, we have all the hot Hollywood celebrities on our side!

    • Robert says:

Whoa whoa woah! I don’t care for Hillary, but that was completely uncalled for.

  6. bittervoter says:

Hooray for silly lols we can all enjoy.
I must say though, that the more I look at the picture, the more haunted Sarah Palin looks. Perhaps she’s realizing “oh crap, I’m in over my head, but I must not show it”. Poor lady.

I love how every other caption is something defammatory towards mccain or palin. Some of them are funny, but some are just downright awful. Also, how many are at Obama’s expense? One? Two?
In the tank for Obama much?
    Subtlety: Ur doin it wrong.

    • bittervoter says:

Uh, not only are you harping on something that’s already been discussed ad nauseum here, but this one isn’t really defammatory nor is it false. She was a beauty queen, and she’s not exactly calling for world peace either, it’s funny because it’s true.

    • anon says:

agreed. i’m no fan of palin whatsoever, but i’m kind of sick of the sexist comments in general.

      • DW says:

Agreed. Why is a woman’s sex appeal a primary focus? Teh menz should be ashamed of themselves, but they’re not. Just wait for the responses…

    • DeathWyrmNexus says:

That assumes that we wanted to be subtle. Also, check all the anti-Obama statements in the other threads. Don’t worry, the slam squad will get around to this lol comment thread too. Keep your panties unbunched, they’ll be here.

    • mAlise says:

if you want there to be more at obama’s expense, make them!

    • Robert says:

See, and I like Palin, but still found it funny.

Again, Peace through strength, trust but verify.

  10. Man Palin is not someone you can trust at all. Just see the what she has done in Wasilla. Don’t get her any more power, also because you don’t get to wack her for a vote. :P

  11. Dez_Turkisch says:

…… It might seem weird coming from a girl..but, I’d tap that…… She’d help(or would it the old man died) run our country into the ground, but wouldn’t that be a pretty sight to see on the news everyday? :D
