Sadly I think that the messianic quality will actually make his first weeks in office (if elected) more difficult. The whole world, and esp Americans, have started to believe that everything they see as wrong (whether you agree that they are wrong or not), will magically be set right if only he is in office- but it takes a long time to fix things that are broken. If you believe that our country is not heading in the right direction- it will still take time to get it on track after the election- I only hope pp realize this...

And 98% of the media does not love him- how can it when over 50% is owned by Mr. Republican Natl Committee Rupurt Murdoch???? That makes not logical sense...And Murdoch is not known for his hands off approach to his outlets...

With that said- occasionally the media has been too easy on Obama...as they have been on McCain, and Palin, and too hard on him at others, and on the Clintons, Bush Sr, etc (I think they are too soft on Bush Jr- they never said BOO about him until 2 years ago). The media is biased- use your critical thinking skills to figure out the bigger picture and decide what you like---and read/listen to non-American sources occasionally- it is really quite enlightening

Just a thought- but in a previously supplied link, the first item was re-researched and found to be accurate by the writers of the fact check article. Biden was referring to a procedural vote, and yes, they BOTH voted for it. (scroll to the bottom where they added this comment: http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/factchecking_biden-palin_debate.html). So item one in your list is inaccurate.

The diplomatic meetings are much more complex then this and most of the MSM media want them to be, but you are correct- that was said. THink this arguemnt is silly- but you are correct.

Drilling is also complicated- and with changing times and informaiton, it is only appropriate for adult rational thinkers to adjust opinions. I still think it is silly- but many Americans like to think it will help them now (and probably will since a large portion of the price of oil is psychology not reality)---but yes, he said both things.

Troop funding- both have voted both ways- in the end both voted for the funding of the troops- and in the earlier bills, the reasons they might have voted differently is, again complicated- our political system is not black and white- it would be nice if all of the voters would remember that instead of blindly rooting for their team... but sure, again, you are right,

Coal- definitely- Biden is just being silly when he tries to claim this was out of context...he definitely opened mouth and inserted foot

Alternative energy- yes, he only actually voted specifically against it 11 times, the other times, he just did not vote for it.

You cannot one minute use FactCheck.org to support you and ignore it when it does not- all analysis have McCain's health care plan caosting MANY amounts of money- this is wrong

You may be correct about the windfall taxes- but Pailn herself was fine with this characterization of her actions- at least she did not say anything to correct it

Surge is a joke- it was a political ply all around- separate the semantics (we have had more troops in Iraq at different times than the "surge" had, and the working with the tribal leaders was in place for months before the "surge"- and I fault the dems for calling it that- I hate the war, but the CIC has every right to deploy how ever many troops he and his staff deem needed to a war etc- that whole things was stupid.

Regulation- he may have called for it, but he did not VOTE for it....

IRAQ- yep- Iraq you may be right- I recall Biden being ok with much of that- but he also questioned much of it...complex issue- where niether can be said to be "dead wrong", as nothing is black and white- so I think that you can be thought of as correct on this, in a simple world.

Tax Increases- I think you may be correct- however I believe that the increas on that small portion would be less than under McCain if I recall the fact check pages...so again, not as simple as we would like

Bailout- I cannot comment- too fast, too stupid, not working (it might, but not today)...socialism for big finance is ok, but not for children's health care- I am at a loss to explain the bx of the entire spectrum of Rep-Dem...so no comment- that whole thing makes me sad.

Reagan tax rates...hmmm I think that they may be right- but what rate are they speaking of and what rate are you- 1980 or 1988???? again, not so simple...

I hate to pop in, as I am a lurker (and enjoy the information I get from both sides, although I am an admitted liberal).

But here is my perspective on this issue, having seen both
sides. It seems that in traditionally female professions, that have also traditionally had male administration, that the bitchy/catty thing seems to happen- i.e in primary and secondary education, nursing, etc. I say this because I have MANY female relatives that have worked in these environments- and this seems to be the only thing they have in common (obviously not a full socilogical analysis here- just one person's observations).

ON the other side however, even within these environments, I think that the culture is influenced greatly by the leadership- weather male or female, if the leadership does not allow or condone this kind of behavior, it d
does not occur. But I think that many male leaders are oblivious, or actively lead by dissent (either staff are male or female). In contrast, in many non-traditional environments, I have found that my personal emplyment experience has been amazingly mature and appropriate, when the leader was a woman- where as my associates with male leadership seem to have more random experiences. I always thought of this as a direct result of affirmative action- not that AA is bad, but that many of the minorities it is supposed to help put on equal ground are undermined by the culture around them that makes them feel that they are ONLY there BC of AA- so if they are supportive of others, they will loose their position- only room for one girl crap. SO they eat their young, if you will- and discontent runs rampant. It is, IMO, a failure in leadership in almost every case, when women act like junior high school quenn bee-ness never ended- but is is also a choice of the women in that situation to perpetuate that behavior- you can choose not to play the ugly games. My mom had a very similar situation as a floor nurse after having been a home health administrator for 10 yrs- she simply ignored it (it was VERY hard on her), and kept her eye on other opportunities- and now she has a much better (not Utopian, but better) environment, with a female local leader-. Does this all sound like babble- I apologize, but I think it is complex- not regional, and not just about women who cannot grow up.

That girl who tried to correct my spelling of Ahmadinejad's name actually came back to say I was wrong again. Maybe this guy will attempt to defend his incorrect spelling too. That's be great fun.

The only way Mr. T would use the word 'gaff' is if he were referring to hooking a fish. Otherwise, he'd be using the word 'gaffe', which is a social blunder. Click the name for more.

Thank you. I was just about to say something along the same lines.

Did you notice that meter along the bottom of the screen that was based on Ohio voters? Did you notice how whenever Joe was talking he carried a slight lead amongst women vs the men? Did you also notice how whenever Palin would start speaking the men's opinion would have a serious spike while the women's opinion was hitting rock bottom?

Are any of you people capable of reading something without twisting it around? I did not say it was a paradise. My coworkers got annoyed sometimes, eyes were rolled, there was some bitching in the break room, occasional complaints to supervisors that were resolved amicably, but that was it. No one ever tried to end anyone's career or force anyone to quit or even anywhere close. Friction was caused by other women breaking rules and causing problems for others, or failing to do their job well, or any one of a dozen other things, but never because someone 'being pretty' or was successful.

FYI - none of my female friends, who work in a variety of places, have ever complained that their workplace is a hotbed of intrigue and backstabbing. They complain about their workplace, sure, but not about that. Seriously, I don't know where you people live or who you work with, but I'm damn glad it's not me or my workplace, or my friend's workplaces, either.

Okay, I'm not Sarah Palin's biggest fan, but I sort of agree with FrooFrou in that you must be working in some Sapphic paradise that the women around you are all happy for each other all the time. I have NEVER worked somewhere where their wasn't some kind of fued going on amongst certain women and for absolutely NO reason. And don't try and claim that you are so much more educated and enlightened in the Northwest and the rest of us are rednecks because I have lived ALL over this country. I am an elementary school teacher, this is a field that is almost all women, and let me tell you the careers that have almost been ruined over gossip and backstabbing would make you ashamed of our sex. We ladies are harder on ourselves BY FAR than men ever could be.

PK ate my post, but I'm sure it'll be along eventually so I won't retype. I did forget to talk about the rape kit thing. I don't blame Palin for that completely because my understanding is that it was already a practice during her tenure as mayor, not that she came out and said, "Hey guys, let's charge women for rape kits!" Now I could be wrong about that, but that was my understanding. As for rapes not happening all that much, Alaska has one of the highest percentage of rapes in the country, so I doubt that's the issue. Now, maybe there hasn't been any women complaining because their insurance DID pay for it. I for one don't really even pay attention when I get medical bills, I just scan down to the bottom to make sure insurance is paying for everything, so they may not have even realized it was a charge. Especially since I imagine they had other things on their mind, what with being raped and all.

Well, I'd say you guys hashed this out pretty well before I got here, but since you asked so nicely Lolnathan, I'll throw my opinion in! I have always felt that we women are harder on ourselves then men can ever hope to be, and that our biggest road block to equality between the sexes are ourselves and not "the Man" keeping us down. Look at any workplace that has a majority of women (as an elementary teacher I can speak from experience). The same behaviors that are almost cliched in middle school and high school don't ever get out grown and continue into adulthood. Rumors, backstabbing, and outright bitchiness for no other reason to watch the other woman fall. They call this Queen Bee mentality and it is sad that no matter how old we get some women will never grow up in that respect.
-
As to the issue with Sarah Palin I won't say that jealosy plays no part in it, but I don't think it plays a large part in it. First you had McCain running ads about how Obama should have picked Hillary and how unfair it was that he didn't (despite the fact that the Republicans have painted Hillary as the Bitch Queen from Hell for years) and then next thing you know he's pulling some woman out of virtually no where almost as if to say, "here ladies, now you have a woman you can vote for." Whether or not that was his intent, it made a lot of women angry. As for me personally, I don't dislike Sarah Palin, I dislike her politics and I don't think she's prepared for the job she's undertaken. What I find more annoying is not her, but the people who are swayed by her cutsy and folksy attitude without looking underneath to what she actually thinks and believes. This, I think, IS sexism and she does herself a disservice by using it to her advantage.

We didn't even ask THAT much of Dan Quayle. Sorry to be depressing, but what IS it with the GOP and halfwit VP's?

I didn't say she was UN-willing to sacrifice. On the contrary, she seems more than willing to sacrifice anyone and anything else to get what she wants - the truth, her family, the environment, all sacrificed on the altar of Sarah Palin.

I can understand that you, and many others, find her likeable, but THIS IS NOT A POPULARITY CONTEST. It's a job interview, and like her all you want, she's not qualified.

I don't know what part of this country lolnation and froufrou live in, but I have been working for 30 years in two different industries, about 70% of my coworkers were female, many of them attractive and successful, and I have NEVER seen the kind of behavior you describe. Women who were disliked were disliked because of their behaviour or if they were incompetent, not for their looks or accomplishments.

You two must live someplace were the culture encourages that kind of nasty behaviour (Texas? the south? redneck nation?) but where people are decent, like the Pacific Northwest, women don't behave that way. If (and that's a big if, I suspect you just have axes to grind) women behave like that where you are, blame your culture, because it isn't that way everywhere.

Don't know what happened to my earlier reply. And if it shows up I apologize for the snarkiness. I disagree with the premise that these polls are all over sampling Dems. Rasmussen certainly isn't and Fox, who uses their polling data, certainly is not slanting this to the Left. And Karl Rove's site uses the same polling data as all of the other aggregating sites does and they are showing Obama with an advantage. The aggregating of polls helps to reduce the bias that each pollster so that you get a more accurate picture. It worked pretty well in 2004 and even better in the mid-term elections of 2006.
I can't offer you a single site you're likely to think is reliable if you really think the polls we're seeing out biased toward Dems, but at least check out Real Clear Politics and Pollster.com

I know you're right, I just wish they would stick to things with a little more substance instead of these cheap shots. I don't remember much about when Clinton got elected, was not in the least interested at the time. I do remember being ticked off at the Lewinsky scandal investigations, that was a stupid witch hunt and as ridiculous as this is.

It's just typical dirty politics. She doesn't have a voting record like Obama, Biden, and McCain, so they have to try and dig up dirt to use against her. The same thing happens to every Governor who runs for President really. When you can't attack them on the issues, you have to attack them personally or tie them into someone elses failures.

I vaguely remember people digging for dirt when Clinton ran in '92.

Exactly, but all of a sudden it's a huge issue, as if people where marching in the streets about it. I have heard it is a common practise to bill the insurance company in many communities but I don't see any national outcry against it. But every other Palin comment in here is how she personnaly charged women for their own rape kits. I don't like everything she stands for but these stupid little things push me over the edge sometimes.

Yes, yes, you are so smart because you can use AOL. Ye gods! Is calling people stupid because they disagree with you really your best argument? Dispute my contention, as QBQ does. THAT I can respect. But no, you just insult people. Jeebus. That'll show me.

Well ema, why it isn't gained any mainstream traction, is that it wasn't her decision. Maybe she was aware of it, maybe she wasn't, but it was the Police Chief of Wasilla that was doing it. I'd like to think rape wasn't too common in her community and that she didn't know it was going on because no one has formally complained. No one knows for sure.
