  1. Mathematician says:

    Missing two digits
    700 billion = 700,000,000,000

  2. Decepticon says:

Mwahahaha, the Bush Administration’s stance of absolutely unbridled capitalism has gone so badly wrong that the only way to fix it is to flirt with socialism. That’s what happens when you give wall street the keys to the liquor cabinet George, they get drunk.

  3. Dollar Bill says:

he’s turned the value of a dollar into the value of pocket lint.
    single-handedly.
    the filthy Republican bastard….

    • MegaBob says:

You Lefties are sooo full of hate !
Come to the Right- you’ll feel better ! :-)

      • hotsauce says:

        Don’t confuse anger with hate.

      • Seth says:

That cognitive dissonance must hurt. You know what that is, right? The pain that comes from trying to hold mutually contradictory ideas in your head at the same time. Like, you believe that Republicans are good. But being fiscally irresponsible is bad. And big government is bad. But Republicans are fiscally irresponsible. And they have been making government bigger.

Just think about it. Think about the economy, and the bailout. Think about your candidate. Think about all those rich guys on wall street, who profit with no risk to themselves. Think about personal responsiblity. Think about no-bid contracts. That headache you are getting? Yeah, that’s cognitive dissonance.

Only if you have cookies…it sounds like you do. :D

  4. Dollar Bill says:

with the line-up of fools we’ve got running,
I’m thinking of bolting to Canada.
    who’s with me?

  5. Lionpaw says:

So what’re we gonna do about it?

Early voting starts on the 16th of October and runs to the 1st of November, at least in North Carolina. Check your state Board of Elections website for early voting times and locations.

    • KaylaKaze says:

As if the votes would be counted anyway. As if there was anyone decent to vote for. As if there aren’t a whole shload of Americans stupid enough to vote for McCain.

A crappy government is the natural result of universal voting in an ignorant society and that crappy government will then make the society more ignorant.

      • Alcari says:

The problem with democracy is that everyone is allowed to vote. If you’ve ever looked around you, at all the idiots who have no clue what they’re doing, you’ll see why thats a problem.

        • PiMan says:

You got it a little wrong. It goes:
The great thing about democracy is that everyone gets a vote.
The problem with democracy is that everyone is gets a vote.

          • PortlandMark says:

            Robert Heinlein:

“Monarchy is the theory that one person is more intelligent than a million people. What?”

“Democracy is the theory that a million people are smarter than one person. Hmm, better scan that again, it doesn’t track!”

I think I butchered the quotes, but I love them anyway. :)

        • hergieburbur says:

We don’t have a true democracy here, and we don’t elect the president, which is why the popular vote is meaningless. The ACTUAL election is Dec 15th, when the electoral college votes. Here is a summary of the process:

“Rather than directly voting for the President and Vice President, United States citizens cast votes for electors. Electors are technically free to vote for anyone eligible to be President, but in practice pledge to vote for specific candidates[2] and voters cast ballots for favored Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates by voting for correspondingly pledged electors.”

As part of the process, it is also technically possible to have A candidate voted into office, and have his opponent’s running mate voted VP.

So, while we love to push democracy and direct elections on others, we technically have neither…

          • PiMan says:

You do have representative democracy, but I don’t think you even have the best system of that. I prefer something more similar to the Westminster system, where the popular vote of your local region actually matters beyond a few weeks after the election.

            • hergieburbur says:

Yes, but representative democracy is different than true democracy. We only directly elect members of Congress to National office here.

      • lol says:

        Apathy kills democracy.

  6. compbrat says:

The Dems are not the only ones that have bad money practice. I am not sure I like Obamas or Mcains economic plans. The repubs idea of just pulling all of our troups out now is dumb, but we do need to pull out we just need to give an ultimatum. What we need to do is have both parties work together and come to a compromise instead of just saying that one is correct and the other is wrong.

  7. Karencanhazkitteh says:

yeah, it should say 699,999,999,999.00 more. I made that mistake once too and said 7 billion, I think its because we can’t wrap our minds around 7 hundred-billion. It’s such a staggering sum.

  8. rose says:

Yes Busheh, you can haz if u alsew haz obersyt an no goldin parameshootez.

    • MegaBob says:

      Pew! pew! pew !
      Go away Lolcat talk !!!!!

      • PiMan says:

I can believe I am saying this, but it isn’t so unreasonable given the caption is in (correctly spelled) lolspeak.
As long as captioners use ichc memes like “i can has”, we can never be rid of the menace that is lolspeak.

        • Seth says:

If there is one thing PKers on both sides can agree on, it is the menace of lolspeak. Damn, that stuff makes my brain hurt. I mean, I can take it in small doses, on captions. But a whole post, let alone pages of the stuff? A celebration of inane stupidity.

I would rather have EP follow me around for a day yelling in my ear than read a single post in lolspeak.

    • rose says:

whoa, i didn’t realize lolspeak was verbotten in pundit kitchen. i’z sorry.

    • ema says:

This is a great video, goes a little too fast but great explanation of the background of this sub prime mortgage mess. Thanks for posting it!

  9. MegaBob says:

Don’t worry. BHo will make that up in no time with all the new taxes ! If anyone’s left in America….

    • n8 says:

Yes, everyone making more than $250,000 a year should certainly be aware of the new taxes Obama will levy on them. The rest of us will be fine.

      • MegaBob says:

        How Naive !

        • n8 says:

Cynicism doesn’t contradict the facts. Obama’s plan is to tax those who make greater than 250K per year. Of course there’s the possibility that any candidate will renege on any piece of their plan, but at least Obama’s got specifics. All Old Man McCain could do was pull a “spending freeze” out of his ass, which Obama quite correctly noted was stupid.

      • ema says:

        It’s just the begining.

        • MegaBob says:

Then it will be $100,000, then $50,000 and so on. Not to mention gas taxes, sales taxes, etc….
Don’t forget, he also wants to bail out Africa with One Trillion dollars in US aid (your tax money). But he hasn’t sent his own half brothers a dime himself.

  10. Mark says:

For all the back and forth, noone’s bothering to actually cite facts/sources. That’s one of the great problems with the internet… and you know what they say about the arguing on the internet being like the special olympics…

  11. J says:

No, you cannot has another. You assclowns in DC already take a quarter on my check anyway. Once insurance, 401k, state tax are out, I’m left with half of what I actually made.

I think I was just robbed. Have you seen this guy, real tall, white goatee, big hat, wears a striped coat?

  12. J says:

Last time I checked DC made the federal tax code, hence a quarter of my check goes to federal taxes, SS, etc. And yes I know I control my 401k, after all the other stuff goes, I’m left with half my salary. I lose $250 bucks a week, that’s minus the 401k, since I’m not technically losing it.

    • hergieburbur says:

Yes, but you never mentioned federal tax code. You mentioned “You assclowns in DC already take a quarter on my check anyway. Once insurance, 401k, state tax are out, I’m left with half of what I actually made.” Trust me, I know how you feel, I lose a ton to those things. On the other hand, to an extent, they are a necessary evil.

  13. Junk Science Skeptic says:

It’s so fun to watch the economically illiterate leftosphere talk like they actually had a clue in the world. Come out of your mother’s basement, get a job, better yet, employ others and meet a payroll.

The current mess is yet another time-bomb left from the Clintoon era. Banks only loaned to people who can’t pay because Slick passed laws making them do it.
