Time for a history lesson, since many of you seem interested: Horns on the helmets are what make them recognizable to us as belonging to the Vikings, but sadly, that is not historically accurate. Horns were only included on religious ceremonial helmets, not on the ones regularly worn during battle. The image of the horned Viking helmet actually was popularized by a famous 18th-century opera that had no bearing in historical accuracy. Being a lover of all things Norwegian, however, I must admit I love costumes like this!
Not to spoil the image or anything, but anyone who has ever worn a helmet has this one figureed out. The good news is Palin can see Russia from her house…

Well yes, I have never been to an SCA meeting (little too extrem for me). Though my impression is that the focus is on realistically creating mideval ( I know that’s misspelled) society, so, in most cases, I would think you’re right. Horned viking helmets would be out.
We do go for realistic, but we’re flexible. Keep in mind I’ve carried a celphone into battle on at least 3 different occasions. Never got a call in battle though, and don’t know if I’d answer one if I didn’t get it.

I went to the Detroit Ren Faire one year, and my boyfriend and I were hailed by a rather huge fellow in VERY convincing-looking Viking garb. As I recall, he was a member, and his helmet did have horns.
Scary-looking SOB – even my boyfriend was a little alarmed, I think – but turned out to be a nice guy, BTW.
I presume his helmet had horns because that’s what people expect? It worked for me.
I did not have foreign relations with that woman, Mrs. Palin.

I attended the University of Idaho here in Moscow Idaho, where she got her first degree years ago. The mascot for the U of I are “the vandals” Usually represented by a viking like image. Not historically accurate, but its what they do.
The picture looks like it was a fraternity or similar party related to the University of Idaho.

The ads on the side of this site are getting down-right offensive. I don’t want to see pics of McCain and Palin having sex when I come here to see the lols. And they’re all “Pro-Democrat Tees & More!” or “Democrat Car Magnets!!!”. If the site has anything to do with the ads here they need to take a look at how biased and obnoxious they are.

And, nothing funny about our economic woes due to lack of oil either and the stubborn Democrat refusal to allow us to solve it by drilling for our own.

I am not against drilling in ANWR, but don’t think for a second that that will solve our oil problem. It’s just like an addict, “just one more fix then I’ll be all good…”
What we need is a comprehensive research and development program for new sources of energy that don’t depend on oil.
Both candidates are saying the same things about research, etc. I fully agree and hope we can get there soon. In the meantime there is nothing wrong with drilling here to help bring down the prices now.
Um it would help by how little again? And that is after ten years. How about we dig into what would take care of things on the overall problem now instead of drilling for a little bit of “fix” that won’t even really help.
The idea is to do both. The price is up so far now because of market speculation and just the talk of drilling has pushed the price of oil down a little bit.
We don’t have the money to do both! Thanks to eight years of the Republicans allowing big business to do what it likes with zero oversight, our economy has imploded. Not content to be Bush the Third, John McCain aspires to be Herbert Hoover Jr., and makes Hoover’s same claims (nigh verbatim) with regard to the economy. How in the name of all that’s holy are we going to muster the funds to do drilling OR research, never mind both?
Thats the thing, the government does not have to pay for drilling. Private companies do that and the government collects taxes and whatever else kind of royalties, etc. Do you know that in Alaska everyone is getting a $1200 rebate from the government? Article attached of course… Here is a quote: “It was Palin, after all, who last month proposed that lawmakers pay out a $1,200 resource rebate as a way for the state to share some of its multibillion-dollar oil revenue surplus with Alaska residents.”
And yet they still take the Governement money for the OTHER bridge to nowhere (600 million to link Wasilla to Anchorage endangering a pod of beluga whales in the process but Palin of course doesn’t care about the whales – just the money)
All states take federal money for infrastructure – you are changing the subject.
But all states governors don’t make a political point of saying they said “thanks but no thanks” when in fact they still took the money, in direct contradiction to their stated aims for what the country should do.

Won’t see any oil for years, by the time we do it won’t have an impact. Drilling is not the answer, unless of course your loyality is to the large oil corporations and not the USA.
Oil companies already have leases on 40 million acres of off-shore reserves, and they’re only drilling on 10. That and the record windfall profits… *sigh* there’s making money, and there’s outright gouging.

Actually, if they started drilling right now on our own reserves, it would take an estimated 5 years before we saw even a drop of it. Even then, it is not expected to make any significant impact, according to federal research.
There is no “lack” of oil. What there is, is a finite resource which is growing smaller. But we do not “lack” oil. And drilling our own would not solve that either. We do drill in our own country, and there is plenty of space that has been designated for leasing to the oil companies. But they would rather destroy the environment and the creatures that rely on it that to utilize what has been made available. Also, for the record, it is not just the Democrats. Schwatzenegger is staunchly opposed to offshore drilling.
Oh right, they are just dying to destroy the environment and all the creatures! That’s what they really want to do! You found out! The more oil on the market the lower the price and the better for the economy, period. The reason they are not using current leases is because, surprise! there is no oil there! They are the experts on where the oil is not Nancy Pelosi.
If you truly believe the oil companies are motivated by anything remotely resembling a passing allusion to something somebody read about in a Reader’s Digest synopsis of a junior high school essay on altruism, I have a bridge I’d like to sell you. Real cheap. Only ever used by a little old lady to cash her pension check.

I agree and I’m a Democrat. I don’t really want to see that McCain/Palin cartoon and I don’t know anyone who’d want to buy that. But the website needs to make money and they do so by selling advertising space to whomever is willing to pay. If more pro-Republican companies and websites bought ad space on the site you’d see more advertisements for them. Personally I’m more offended by the University of Phoenix online ads.
There are plenty of McCain/Palin ads on here, no one is complaining about that, but they are no where near as sleazy as that one.

Yeah Obama’s got WAY more experience, like … that trip he took a couple months ago, and …. uh … well, I guess that’s about it.
He absolutely has more experience. He’s had senate briefings on foreign policy matters, spoken often with General Petraus and other battlefield commanders, actually been to foreign countries… and before that, he was quite experienced on the domestic side. Palin had two terms as mayor of a town smaller than a DC suburb, and one incomplete term as governor. Prior to that her only political experience was in the PTA, for pity’s sake. Despite her incredibly short tenure, she managed to compile an impressive list of scandals, indiscretions, and outright foolishness. If I were a conservative, I’d be aghast at what my presidential candidate had foisted upon me with this walking disaster.
And don’t forget – SHE HATES CATS!!!!!

It was a joke aimed at the d-bags on this site that get all fired up over humor that runs contrary to their political slant. This isn’t a site for arguing politics, its a site for giggling at silly pictures, but some people don’t get that. If I may digress, it often seems like two people arguing over what a coin looks like. One claims it’s heads, the other tails. When the other disagrees, the attack their family, experience, etc, without ever really talking about what’s actually going on. When one takes a side, black or white, they misrepresent, take out of content and malign what their opponent has to say. Getting such a “black” and a “white” to yell propaganda at each other is what qualifies as a debate in this day and age. When the day comes when the voters actually take the time to look at one issue at a time, look at the facts, not how your party views the world but the facts of how our economy and war are doing and what their long term implications are, we’ll have real candidates to vote for. In conclusion, please watch the movie Idiocracy. So much is to be learned there.
