Well, Georgia was opposed to the democratic process. In fact, Georgia attacked first! Russia came to defend a Pro-Russian territory in Georgia called South Ossetia that sought to separate and voted overwhelmingly to do so. Georgia is the aggressor, but the Western Media refuses to tell the truth. If anything, the US is not supporting Democracy because it was a democratic process that lead the territory to separate from Georgia in the first place!
Unfortunately, mere democratic process is not sufficient; a nation’s government should not be described as Democratic(tm) until officially recognized by Congress. After all, they should know, right?
What does Congress have to do with this? Russia officially recognized the sovereignty of South Ossetia. The US Congress is not the World Congress that decides who is or is not a state. Russia came to their defense after Georgia attacked the territory. So who is wrong? Georgia and their backers in the West.
