    I only chuckled.

  2. steve says:

Ah… If only we had a candidate that was tough on border security…if only….

  3. Seth says:

Gets to the real root of all Republican policy: cheap labor for the rich.

  4. :> says:

Photoshopped! You can see clearly where the house in the background was cut out.

    • brewski says:

Sorry. So not photoshopped. There’s some controversy because McCain was referring to Walter Reed Medical Hospital and this is apparently Walter Reed Middle School. D’oh! Maybe this belongs on failblog instead? lol.

  5. jellybeans says:

is that one of his 7 houses? No wonder he thinks the economy is doing great

    • jellybeans says:

PS – I know it is a school … but HE thought it was a veteran’s hospital.
McCain – all about taking pictures of veterans for his campaign photo ops … NOT all about helping them.

      • Evil Pundit says:

At least McCain visists his fellow veterans in hospital.

Obama snubs injured veterans so he can go to the gym.

        • herb says:

And had Obama visited wounded soldiers -on camera-, EP would have posted about how he was using them for a photo op.

Visit them off-camera in Iraq, you get smeared by the anti-American Righties

        • Dave says:

Way to get all of your facts from Fox News :< Remind me to disregard any of your future posts as complete nonsense.

        • Charlie Foxtrot says:

EP… You’re fibbing here. Come on now, tell the truth, it won’t hurt you.

          • brewski says:

You are incorrect – the truth DOES hurt. Will Rogers: “Truth can hurt you worse in an election than about anything that can happen to you.”

          • Evil Pundit says:

            You can’t handle the truth.

Obama cancelled his scheduled visit to wounded soldiers at a hospital in Germany at the last minute, after he found out he wouldn’t be allowed to bring media entourage with him. Instead, he went to the gym with a German journalist.

That’s the truth. Your candidate is an empty suit.

            • FUfgf says:

Sorry, you are obviously getting your news from Fox & lLimpdick.

Fact is Obama did visit wounded soldiers without cameras on that trip. He did cancel one visit but there were never any plans for cameras in the first place as confimed by all of the journalists present as well as the base. I am sorry that you shoose to believe lies without doing any research on your own.

              • SouthernYankee says:

The problem with you is you can’t handle the truth. The facts are the facts. Adrea Mitchell was with Obama on that trip. She said it on more than one ocasion the facts. You have to read more sweetie and watch more than just Fox News. Where did you get your information from. Everyone I have read doesn’t support what you are saying.

            • Roy says:

              *sigh*

When will you accept that you’ve been proven wrong about this several times before? The liberal news media is the only source that actually claims this to be true.

And does Obama want to continue the war in Iraq? No! Does McCain want to continue the war in Iraq? Yes! But McCain is completely bypassing the fact that we are spending millions of dollars on it a day and thousands are dying on the same frequency. If McCain really cared about this country, he would just end it. But no. He’s a low-lived war monger, just like Bush.

              • BeukendaalMason says:

Actually McCain wishes to complete our commitment in Iraq. Unlike Obama who (unfortunately like Clinton) if the going gets tough…RUN!!!! We caused the turmoil there (right or wrong) and we should finish our commitment until Iraq has a stable, democratic government that protects all of its citizens. This is like the Marshall plan after World War 2. It took a lot of U.S. involvement: money, troops, and diplomats (ok, something that seems to lack in Iraq).

              • eddiepscetti says:

Thousands are dying everyday? I won’t dispute the money side of it, but me thinks you embellish the death toll.

                • Roy says:

Tryin’ to make a point here ;)

But still, your right, that was a stretch. But still, the current death toll is really higher, and despite my exaggeration, it is in fact rising. And does McCain care? From the looks of it, all he cares about it war.

                  • eddiepscetti says:

But it’s not rising because of military operations. It’s rising because terrorists don’t want to see Iraq as a democratic country. The only way they know how to do that is by suicide bombings and killing innocents. If that’s your view of McCain, so be it I’m not the guy to disuade you. His record, for good or bad, will have to stand on it’s own merit.

                    • PiMan says:

Or when US forces can’t hit a target. Roughly two weeks ago, a US strike killed 90 civilians. Including 60 children and 15 women.
US military claimed no more than 9 civilians died and that
roughly 30 militants died too. And that it was a successful strike, despite UN and Afghan reports to the contrary.

                      • Charlie Foxtrot says:

That’s always a problem in unconventional warfare when non-uniformed insurgent forces occupy and operate out of areas where civilians inhabit the area as well. That is the problem with war, even conventional ones … if war only hurt soldiers it would be bad, but soldiers, after all are soldiers. But it doesn’t just hurt soldiers. Civilians are going to be killed, does that mean you have to let the enemy go? Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Check any major war in history and find just one where civilians did not get killed and injured during combat operations. The difference between us and them? They directly target civilians, we not only do not directly target civilians, we do all in our power to try to avoid harming them.

                        • ryszard says:

(To CF):You continue to amaze me. We both know we disagree on a lot, but you consistently get the military stuff right. (To others): Ever notice that in interviews with Islamofascist thugs, there are always children around? Ever wonder why that is? They’re called “human shields”. The 400 civilians who died in a bomb shelter in one of our air raids on Baghdad died because Saddam cynically put a shelter which was unknown to us above a Command & Control Center which he made SURE we knew about–so he could claim propaganda points. I am confident that in the Afghan incident we were after a legitimate target.

            • Charlie Foxtrot says:

Actually, it was Bill Ayers, dressed in an Obama suit who was on a war movie set in Hollywood where he refused to visit the liberal actors playing wounded troops.

        • SouthernYankee says:

You apparently don’t do a lot of reading. That is a false statement. Obama does go to the Walter Reed Hospital to visit troops. He doesn’t bragg like McCain does. As a wife of a retired soldier and a father and father in law that all served in the military well over 60 yrs I and my family will be voting for Obama. He has a high rating with soldiers support and veterans group. McCain only talks but doesn’t walk. I know a POW from WWII and he came back and had a lot of medical problems from being in a prison camp. He doesn’t talk about it to much however, he said that McCain isn’t fit to be a president. I know that McCain is a hero. My father and father in law were both wounded in war. They were grunts that fought on the ground and had to look the other soldier right in the eye. They new it was either them or me and they fought. The war effected my dad. When you would have to wake him up you had to be careful. For that split second he was in combat. My dad was my hero. He didn’t like Gen Westmoreland, Patton. He always said before you send in soldiers to battle be sure what you are going in for and are able to get out of when necessary. War should always be the last option. Republicans it the first option. I don’t want to repeat going to war again for a lie. Iraq was the wrong place and the wrong time. Bush should’ve listened to his dad. Now you have a divided country again just like the VN conflict. If McCain gets in you will see how fast the people will go to the streets if he puts in a draft.

          • Kurt says:

Very well worded Yankee. Out of curiosity though, southern yankee, is that as in a former northener who lives in the south, or a southerner with a northener mindset? (I’m kind of the latter here.)

            • herb says:

Could just be a southern American (as Yankee was the pejorative for anyone in the US days past)

              • PiMan says:

It still is for people out side the US.
Something I found on the internet:
To foreigners, a Yankee is an American.
To Americans, a Yankee is a Northerner.
To Northerners, a Yankee is an Easterner.
To Easterners, a Yankee is a New Englander.
To New Englanders, a Yankee is a Vermonter.
And in Vermont, a Yankee is somebody who eats pie for breakfast.

                • lol says:

Nothing wrong with pie for breakfast. Especially apple.

                  • PiMan says:

                    But apple pie is sweet.
I wouldn’t think it too unusual for someone to have a meat pie though.

                    • herb says:

First off, so you know, it’s apple pie with a slice of cheddar cheese (sharp, white cheddar, mind). Maybe a little bit of grade B maple syrup. Sometimes with a bowl of baked beans as a side.

And in New England, ‘Yankee’ is a dangerous term, as New York hijacked the name for their baseball team, and most people born in the Northeast are honor-bound to support the Boston Red Sox over any other, and any other over the Yankees.

        • Mag7 says:

Here’s McCain’s pathetic record on veteran’s health care
          http://www.truthout.org/article/john-mccains-dereliction-duty

        • jellybeans says:

He may visit them but he doesn’t help them. He constantly votes against any kind of help or assistance or improved care for veterans.
He should be ashamed of himself, I mean really … As a veteran himself he should know that the people who fight for us and are wounded or in need of our care should get every benefit and assistance we can possibly provide.
You will say democrats are anti-war but at least we want to help the soldiers who need it when they come back from fighting those wars we oppose. The republican standard all to often is “Thanks for fighting, know you lost some buddies and got shot up a bit … here’s an aspirin and a lollipop now GTFO”

        • lowly grunt says:

You must have lost your notebook with your newer material. That’s so old. The first time I heard that one, McCain was still young!

  6. LouZha says:

Well wut he needs is an emo lawn. Then it would cut itself.
(comments just might nest below this level)

  7. criskit84 says:

WOW, the Republican economic mindset of selling American jobs for cheap illegal labor so the rich can get richer captured and LOL’ed so poignantly…

    Bravo. Bra-vo.

  8. dhatth says:

damn illegal fuks line em up and shoot em

    • Lolnathan says:

This statement brought to you by the Braindead Redneck Party. Go back to guzzling moonshine and mating with your first degree relatives buddy.

    • Jim says:

How did you make the first few bars of “Dueling Banjos” go through my head with that comment dhatth??

      • dhatth says:

haha that was the point, but seriously now, we need to send back the illegals in this country, or make them pay all the back taxes they should owe for how long theve been here. not only that but to help stop alot of the people from trying to sneak in we need to make to easier to become a citizen. my boss right now is from romania. hes been here 10 years, pays taxes, and gets screwed by the government just like us, and the courts are still dicking him around with his green card.

        • eddiepscetti says:

Seriously, how do you propose to do that? The INS does send back illegals when they are caught, but to make them pay? I’d like to hear your plan. As for making it easier to become a citizen, they have quotas for a reason. If they just let anyone in that wants to be a citizen, the country would quickly be overrun with every form of criminal you can imagine.

          • herb says:

75% of illegals have income tax and Social Security taken from their paychecks (that they can’t collect on in April), plus when they are here, they do purchase items (sales tax, gas tax, etc.). About the only one they don’t contribute to is property tax.

But then, currently, neither do I.

Curious, eddie: how do you feel about the Irish fastrack they did in the mid-1800s? Round up those illegal immigrants and offer them a speedy citizenship if they take up arms for our country? Two birds, one stone, and a bunch of pissed-off PETA folk.

            • eddiepscetti says:

Wait a second, if they’re illegal, how are they paying income tax and Social Security? They can’t have Social Security number if they are illegal, they would have to apply for and be issues a Green Card for that to happen. As for paying tax on the things they buy, that’s true. But then they end up send back what money they do earn to their home country (note I didn’t specifically say Mexico.) The other problem I have is the illegals coming across the border, getting free services such as medical and then expecting tax payers to foot the bill (including those that have legel residency status.) As for your question, I can’t really say as I have no knowledge of that. I don’t really see how that is relevant though since that was a different time and the economics were poles apart.

              • ema says:

The get fudged ones from what I understand, and their employers pay the taxes in the payroll like with everyone but they never file for a refund.

                • eddiepscetti says:

No kidding? Dang, that’s the first I’ve heard of that one!

(I’m not being sarcastic either, I honestly hadn’t heard that.)

                  • ema says:

It’s a huge underground business here in Arizona, creating fake id for illegal immigrants – fake driver’s licenses, fake SS cards, etc.

                    • herb says:

You’re from Arizona? No shit. That suddenly seems to make sense.

On topic, though: a buddy of mine got his semi-annual Social Security statement to discover that he apparently raked in a hefty chunk of SS from an employer in CA when he was in school in VT. Someone uses his SSN, he earns income credits for retirement. Someone uses min, I get hit with an evasion charge from the IRS.

                    • herb says:

                      The hell’d my post go?

Bullet points for now (while it eventually stumbles through the door later in the evening, reeking of rum and beer, and with another LOL’s lipstick on its collar):

                      * My friend discovered his SSN had been jacked when his earnings statement showed a sudden increase of SS put in the piggy bank for him. He wins.

                      * I find out my SSN had been jacked when the IRS sends me a letter for failure to pay income taxes on earnings.

                      * ema being from AZ strangely explains much for me.

                      • ema says:

                        por que herb?

                        • herb says:

We (me, missus, and the sprout) recently spent a week in Phoenix. Babe needed to meet her great-grandfather while he’s still with us. I’m not about to argue politics with an 89-year-old man, but when he’d go off about how the newspapers are so biased towards the Democrats because they wouldn’t run front page articles on Obama being a Muslim, I was a bit off-put, because the “liberal” meida was sickeningly tainted with neoconservativism. (It’s a trick of the news: publish what your readers want to read.)

I’m not surprised you are the way you are (decidedly Repub, though your beliefs are actully more Dem in practice) because of this atmosphere.

                        • ema says:

Ugh, how’d you like the weather? It’s pretty much hell up there in the summer. Phoenix is a lot more conservative than were I live, the Berekley of the desert, Tucson. I am actually a registered Democrat to tell you the truth, but the party has gone so far left I have been voting Rebuplican, espeically since 9/11/2001. (I probably should officially switch!) I trust them so much more to keep us safe, that’s what it boils down to for me. Also if they would do what they are supposed to do and keep the government small it would be a plus. If the Democrats had come up with a better candidate I might have voted for him/her.

                        • herb says:

The weather was hell. I find Denver too hot, too dry, and too sunny, yet we end up going to Arizona in August, back to New England in December. Planning for weather fail.

I’ve actually moved further to the Left after 9/11: I was appalled by the sudden “need” to lord over people, designing legislation to strip us of civil liberties, and effectively monitor our actions, all for some presumed “security”. We haven’t been made any safer by USPATRIOT or any other piece of legislation, so what did I loose my liberties for?

                          (That’s rhetorical, by the way)

I hear the righties saying we don’t need (for example) social programs, because are things the community should provide — which is one of the tenets of communism, by the way. I don’t see how or why the government is exempt from this equation, seeing as how it is of, by, and for the people. Need it be restated: I’m more for tax-and-spend policies, than borrow-and-spend.

                      • eddiepscetti says:

LOL! Fess up, ema, you SSAN filcher!

                • eddiepscetti says:

GIven that though, they’re still illegal. Having a fake SS number doesn’t grant you citizenship or the rights thereof.

              • ema says:

Oh, and I don’t think they check real careful if the SS is from the right person or not.

          • dhatth says:

10 years, thats one hell of a background check. i like the other idea tho. if they want to be part of this country, let them fight for it, that and i think anyone convicted of a violent gun crime should serve their sentence in iraq, you wanna play with guns, here you go, dont forget to duck.

            • eddiepscetti says:

Actually, 10 years isn’t that long. Try getting a Top Secret clearance sometime. When I migrated to Australia I had to have an all clear from the FBI, so the U.S. isn’t the only country that has this requirement.

        • Kakra says:

I think we should also make sure those who hire illegals get procecuted, and, if convicted, get their business shut down. After all, as long as there’s a chance to get a job in the US, people will always be trying to come over here, legally or otherwise. And I can understand. Many of these people have poor families, and are trying to raise money for their family to survive back home, or even come over here themselves. However, it’s dangerous for both them and our economy to be trying to get over here illegally. When they realize that they can’t get a job here, what’s the point of staying, or trying to get over here again?

Also, I would like our leader to at least be investigating what is going on in Mexico, and why exactly the economy there is doing so poorly, and if there’s anything we can do to help. Our countries are right next to each other, so I would think it would be in our best interest to be working together, no?

  9. NinjaPirate says:

something’s been shopped out of there, looks all blurry in parts of the grassy area..

    • not-so-sullen girl says:

Not photo-shopped (read other comments above). It was a gigantic screen backdrop. Chances are that there was some wavering that gives it a blurry appearance in that one spot. Or it could be natural glitches in foreground photography, given the large scale of the image.

  10. gffish says:

Did McCain or anyone in the Republican party ever come up with a logical explanation as to why they showed a picture of Walter Reed Middle School in North Hollywood during McCain’s speech?

    • tairii says:

Because someone screwed up and nobody double checked their pictures before going on air?

    • Lolnathan says:

There are any number of logical explanations, but the simplest one is that some low level volunteer tasked with finding a good image of Walter Reed Medical Center did not double check that the image was of the proper building before saving it.

  11. F3nNec says:

Ai wush mai lawn waz EMO
    so it wud cut itself

  12. ema says:

Immigrants don’t need amnesty, illegal immigrants do. So this doesn’t even make sense.

  13. VICKEY says:

THIS ONE IS STUPID. STUPID THAT THE FACT IS THESE IDIOTS WORK CHEAP! WE AMERICANS DONT SELL OURSELF CHEAP!
