I own a gun and have a concealed carry permit, and it doesn’t whisper in my ear who to vote for. I’m also not a member of the NRA. I don’t feel the need to vote for a Republican because I have a gun. I can’t imagine any President erasing the 2nd Amendment, so it’s not an issue when it comes to voting time.
Indeed, I’ve always had some interest in hunting due to family and all that. (Although, I suppose to a lesser extent since I’m more interested in engineering than running a hunting club.) There’s really no way a change in Pres/VP means that the country automatically starts following all of their ideals. Amendments are really frelling hard to add, let alone repeal, so I’m hardly worried about that, no matter who makes it into office.
True, amendments are extremely hard to add. Bills and resolutions are not. The issue isn’t is the right to bear arms going to taken away completely. The issue parties fight over is what sort of restrictions should we allow? Democrats believe in a lot of restrictions over who can have a gun and how to obtain one. Republicans are looser. That’s why the NRA and gun owners typically swing conservatively.
I hate the myth that Liberals want to take people’s guns away. So of my friends — the one’s that make -me- look conservative — have some of the more extensive gun collections I’ve seen.
Most of the people who want to take away peoples guns are municipalities who cannot solve their crime problem and believe that taking away guns will help. It tends to cross party lines rather frequently, and isn’t a R or D thing.
The NRA is to gun owners what PETA is to vegetarians.
Basically, yeah. Except the NRA promotes killing animals, PETA just does it when no one is looking.

If only! PETA’s strategy is for shit. HSUS is the NRA of animal rights–the CEO even said it was his plan to make it that way. Their goals are the same as PETA, but they have a much much larger budget to pay their much much more savvy strategists.
