    And first comment be mine.

    • eddiepscetti says:

Ok, but couldn’t it have been more substantial? :P

      • jesse32 says:

No, generally those who post about being the first to post show early signs of mental retardation, and thus do not have the ability to formulate substantial sentences.

        • jesse32 says:

This is actually only further proven by his obviously superior grammar skills.

        • Beft says:

I’ve got your substance right here.

        • Jamieteevee says:

And thus show increased inability to punctuate in a method of flow, resulting in a retard-like inability to render sensible meaning.

        • eddiepscetti says:

My comment was actually made in jest and I apologize for all the crap you copped because of it. Sometimes it’s good to go against the norm around here and actually post something other then first. I like to think those who have migrated to PK did so because they have a higher cerebral thought process instead of what you see on the ‘other’ sites.

          • jesse32 says:

Just because there were 5 words in the “sentence” that doesn’t mean he was not declaring that he was the first to post. He might as well just have said “omg first!!!11!”.

          • DeathWyrmNexus says:

Considering that I see “first” on a lot of Lolz here in PK and then the sheer level of bile I got for something simple, I am afraid I can’t back up your theory on user cerebral superiority.

As for opposing the norm, I was having fun. Simple fun but fun. I figured I would catch up on the debates in the aftermath though I wasn’t quite expecting people to piss themselves with rage over a first post.

        • jesse32 says:

The word “pontificate” really doesn’t apply in your sentence. I would hardly consider pregnancy a sordid issue. She’s 17, and they’re getting married. If she was 15 and getting an abortion then i would consider it sordid. Holding a baby during news conferences is hardly comparable to being a surrogate mother. Though I do believe he is an idiot, as 50 cents could have spared him this entire “scandal”.

          • i'll hockey your mom says:

you are wrong on the whole vocabulary issue. your mom should be mad about the “no child left behind” failure.

and the whole birth control issue… well… you’re wrong about that too. do some research.

          • DeathWyrmNexus says:

There is the whole thing were I could pontificate instead of saying I will pontificate but I won’t spoil your rant with silly things like reading comprehension.

As for sordid, well having your sex life and missteps placed before an audience consisting of millions of people seems pretty damn sordid to me. Especially having your own mother bring attention to it. Talk about shame tactics.

Regarding the surrogate mother issue, last I read, she was doing a lot of the tending for the youngest while her mother was away which seems to be a lot. Since I didn’t watch the convention or news conferences and have instead done that crazy thing called reading, I am not basing my thoughts off a single media clip. Thanks for the bile though as I am most amused by your Internet is Serious Business attitude.

            • I_Tego_Arcana_Dei says:

Has anyone considered that this is like the best parent scare tactic ever?

“If you start having sex, just keep in mind, when you get knocked up (or in a boy’s case, knock a girl up) I’m gonna run for major political office and then drag your mess through the media with me!”

              Pretty awesome deterrant for kids.

              • anon says:

maybe actually having another living human to be entirely responsible for should be enough deterrent…
and i love that people get encouraged to get married purely coz they knocked someone up… that definitely makes the unprotected, premarital sex ok. I wonder if sarah palin is willing to pay for them all to live, seeing as he doesn’t have a job, or probably enough money to pay for the kid in the first place…
I love irresponsible parenting being trumpeted as a good thing to do; “I’m happy she’s pregnant… even happier she’s getting married” – nice one sarah

        • Stan says:

Look at you with your big words and your small difficult words…

        • Doombass says:

You had to look up what ‘pontificate’ means, didn’t you?

  2. Allegra! says:

who is this, palin’s daughter’s boyfriend? *checks news*

  3. Evil Pundit says:

Keep smearing Sarah Palin’s family, libs. It’s working for you!

    • kthnxbai says:

oohhh poor little EP… are you feeling a little blue???

      Here, have a lollypop…

      better?

      • fred says:

He’s probably feeling pretty happy because he watches the polls.

        • n8 says:

It’s called “convention bounce.” Nice while it lasts… but it doesn’t last.

          • Blarg says:

Exactly, just like Obama’s convention bounce didn’t last. We’ll be back to square one, with both sides lying and playing the same old political games candidates have been playing for years. Same shit, different faces.

          • fred says:

Next stop, the debates! The pressure is on.

            • Evil Pundit says:

Obama is hopeless without a teleprompter.

              • boom says:

news flash – they all are.

                • Evil Pundit says:

                  False.

Some are natural public speakers. Palin is one.

The interviews and debates will show how much she outclasses the bumbling, stumbling Obama and the boring Biden.

                  • boom says:

Oh, so it’s great for your side to be “great orators”, but for their side it’s “empty rhetoric”. That’s getting old. Actions, actions.

                  • herb says:

I know what you mean, when Palin went on that unscripted news show–

oh, wait: she hasn’t. She’s only read what she’s been given thus far.

                    • truthtalker says:

Technically, she’s only been at it a short time. Can’t do everything at once. She’ll be getting those interviews soon enough. Well, not on Oprah though. And she had her teleprompter speed ahead without her because of people clapping (the guy running it didn’t pause for applause), and had to give her speech from memory and notes.

                      • Jess says:

Actually, check the next palin pic on this blog- there’s a direct article and proof that she did not have any teleprompter issues whatsoever.

                        • truthtalker says:

Mind reposting? I don’t see it on any post so it may be lost in the jumble, but I’d like to see it.

                        • fred says:

It’s actually the exact opposite, she did have trouble, the teleprompter did not stop for applause breaks and she had to remain composed and continue by looking at her hard copy then going back to the teleprompter without missing a beat.

                        • lol says:

Poor thing, having to give a talk from memory. People do that all the damn time.

                        • truthtalker says:

True, they do. But not politicians anymore. And once you become used to a teleprompter, it’s harder to have it suddenly and unexpectedly taken away from you. Would stumble most politicians on both sides because it becomes a crutch you expect to be there for you.

                        • Kurt says:

If you want to know what it’s like to go from having a prompter to not having one. I imagine it’s like using a GPS in your car for some time, months years or whatever. Then having to make a road trip without it.

                        • herb says:

If I forget my cell phone, I feel like I’m going to crash into the sun, though I held out for years getting one.

Since the days of TelePrompters, *all* politicos sound like bumbling idiots without one.

                    • fred says:

You can see interviews on youtube – there are plenty from when she was governor. Just to get an idea of how she will do.

                      • herb says:

Except that she’s said she doesn’t want to do unscripted news shows because of how mean people have been to her.

And most VP candidates attend such shows within 24 hrs of the nom being announced.

                        • Jane St.Clair says:

Yeah, I hate it when people ask me about my qualifications for a job when I’m trying to get one, it’s so mean!

                        • MegaBob says:

Sucks to be you, Jane !

                        • herb says:

Well Palin has a good excuse: people are criticizing her. I mean, it’s not like she’s running for the second-highest-ranking position in the country or anything. If people are going to pick on her, then fine, she just won’t talk to them with a speechwriter.

                  • fred says:

Obama slipped up on his interview with George Stephanopoulos, he accidentally said “my muslim faith” instead of “my christian faith”. I can’t wait to see how he messes up in the debates. This guy doesn’t seem to be able to focus or something.

                    • fred says:

Here’s a link to the interview in context, he is so hard to listen to.

                      • Lyn says:

He said what he meant, it was just easily misinterpreted. He was saying that McCain had not made claims that he was a Muslim. It could have been worded better, but it wasn’t the kind of Freudian slip people are making it out to be, like he doesn’t know whether he’s Muslim or Christian.

                        • fjaradvax says:

In any case, since ‘muslim’ means ‘one who submits to the will of God’, the two are hardly mutually contradictory.

                        • fred says:

Probably, but those are the kinds of mess ups at this time in the campaign he has to be very careful about. Not everyone will understand what he meant. The way Steph tried to correct him was also very uncomfortable to watch.

                    • Jim says:

Correct spelling of Stephona—Stephino—George’s name! FTW!!!

              • Jamieteevee says:

Obama is helpless without someone protecting him from rednecks with guns.
McCain is helpless without lobbyist money, direction, talking points and money.

              • ---------- says:

McCain is hopeless even WITH a teleprompter. Did you see his Louisiana speech!!! He made Woody Woodpecker look like Marilyn Monroe!

          • Jane St.Clair says:

That and most americans have all the attention span of kittens distracted by a shiny new toy. Sarah Palin is that shiny new toy. Now, I will admit that I’m afraid America will still be rolling in that catnip come November and they’ll elect McCain just because they think Palin is “spunky” as Tom Brokaw so elegently put it this morning.

        • Evil Pundit says:

All the smearing in the media made people curios. Sarah Palin’s convention speech had a bigger audience than Obama’s, and a star was born!

Polls are looking good. Of course there’s a convention bounce, but Obama is going to have to work to get those votes back. He’s in trouble and some liberals are starting to panic.

          • Jamieteevee says:

It did NOT. You get your facts from FOX News or something. Go to Nielsen ratings and discover the truth on your own. I watched her speech, like many nervous Americans and even though I was counted as one of the multitude who watched her speech, she did NOT have a bigger audience.

          • Lauren says:

The only reason liberals would be worried is because they think the americans population will be dumb enough to vote for Bush jr. and screw us for another 4 years (or more).

            • eddiepscetti says:

You very well may be right. But you can bet that if Obama wins and screws up, you will never hear the end of it! All I can say is, if you feel that strongly about it, make sure you vote. Because for every apathetic voter there’s someone just as dedicated who wants to see their candidate win.

              • Phaelin says:

And for every voter, there are 1.5 that aren’t. -_-

                • jellybeans says:

and there will be 1 that the GOP has caged out. Michigan is now using forclosure listings as reasons to challenge voters. Doesn’t matter if they saved the loan and kept the house, if they got a letter in the mail (1 in 200-250 houses got one in the Michigan counties affected) their votes will be challenged and likely discarded.
                  -
Once again, GOP can’t win fair so they plan to steal the election.

              • Allegra! says:

I’d rather take the chance and see Obama screw up than have McCain screw up in office, I think we all know how that would end…

    • Jamieteevee says:

No Spears zone…I mean no SMEAR zone. If you want to get all righteous about anyone deigning to touch the “innocent” and quite possibly virginal, VPILF’s pregnant daughter please use the same restraint when it comes to the effectiveness of “abstinence only” training. As O’Reilly labels it, “Her parents are to blame and are the true PINHEADS HERE”. Shame on you Jamie Lynn, I mean, Bristol!

      • fred says:

According to this article, which I found thanks to an excellent link posted by truthtalker, Palin is in favor of contraceptive and Bristol had almost surely had normal sex eductaion. Here is a quote from 2006:
“I’m pro-contraception, and I think kids who may not hear about it at home should hear about it in other avenues. So I am not anti-contraception. But, yeah, abstinence is another alternative that should be discussed with kids. I don’t have a problem with that. That doesn’t scare me, so it’s something I would support also.”

        • Wulf says:

If that’s really Palin’s view, then it’s a respectable one.

I’ll go back to wanting to vote against her based on her positions regarding banning books, preventing rape victims from getting abortions if they want them, lying about pork & spending, etc.

        • '06 Candidate Questionnaire says:

          3. Will you support funding for abstinence-until-marriage education
instead of for explicit sex-education programs, school-based clinics, and
the distribution of contraceptives in schools?
SP: Yes, the explicit sex-ed programs will not find my support.

    • Sorsha says:

The funny thing is, she doesn’t need anyone to smear her family.

They are doing a bang-up job of looking stupid on their own!

  4. Codey H. says:

    Pullin’ out,

    youz doin’ it wrong.

  5. Cookies28 says:

Question: WHY does he HAVE to marry her? I mean, really.

    • DeathWyrmNexus says:

Because she is in charge of his state and possible second in command of the country. She is huge into guns and conservative morals. She has pushed him and his sexual deed into the spotlight so everybody who is conservative is looking at him. His whole state knows, etc etc…

So to sum up, I would say he doesn’t want to have an “Accident.”

      • DeathWyrmNexus says:

Ugh, end of the day. Sorry, by SHE I mean Sarah Palin, the girl’s mom.

      • Cookies28 says:

Ah I get it. So not only does she have no problem putting her 17 yr old
daughter up for public scrutiny, she’ll make damn sure she puts up the 18 yr
old boyfriend for the same thing. All in the name of her getting a job that she wants.
        Niice…..

        • truthtalker says:

It’s really kindof pointless to discuss the eventual marriage of them since we have no actual details, and even if any were given out someone would suspect them of being made up by one party or other. Maybe he loves her. Maybe she loves him. I hope so. If not, I feel bad for them. But we don’t know either way and it’s not really any of our buisness to make stuff up in the absence of actual knowledge.

          • Cookies28 says:

NEWays…….Your comments have nothing to do with what I just posted.
Fact: She went into this knowing full well the public would get hold of
her 17 yr old’s “predicament” and run her into the ground. She still
chose herself, and her country, BEFORE HER KID. She of course,
dragged the boyfriend along because how could he not be brought
up in this mess? God help those two if they do get married, but I
don’t hold out much hope for success. 1. Because they’re WAY TOO
YOUNG. 2. There’s a baby in the equation (which is hard enough if
            you’re 37) 3. Palin is the mother-in-law.

            • truthtalker says:

My comments were a polite way of saying “don’t flap yer yap over something you don’t know thing one about”. Her relationship with him and if they want to get married or not is no one’s business but theirs, and should be a non-issue at this point.

Your facts are opinions, by the way. Just thought you should know. Real facts are things that have and can be proven. You have no way of showing that her family is a helpless dupe in all this and not actually a supportive family willing to work together and get things done. It’s what families do.

Yes they’re young, and the odds are stacked against them due to age and circumstance, but it’s not impossible for things to come out well for them. And whether they do or not is none of your business, my business, or anyone else’s.

              • Cookies28 says:

Thanks for telling me what I think. LMAO

It IS a fact that Sarah Palin put her OWN CHILD up for public scrutiny
when she decided to throw her hat into the ring with McSame.

I cannot and will not respect (or elect) anyone who would willingly
do that to their own child.

As for the rest of your post, yada yada yada…

                • truthtalker says:

If all you can hear is “yada yada yada” then obviously you never meant to attempt to listen in the first place and no one can help you. I didn’t “tell you what you think”. I told you what you state as *fact* is not, in fact, a fact, but an opinion. If you can’t tell the difference that’s your problem.

              • Aedriel says:

How exactly is it opinion that
                1. she knew her daughter would be up for public scrutiny
… I mean, surely Palin isn’t THAT stupid.
                2. There’s a baby (or is it just a little pillow and a big lie?)
                3. Palin is the mother-in-law

The only opinion I see is regarding their age, and legally Bristol is too young to be married without parental consent (I believe it’s 18, no doubt depends on the state, but I’m not going to bother looking it up right now.)

            • ---------- says:

yeah, they should have just said that Bristol was a victim of rape or something. Palin doesn’t believe in abortion in cases of rape OR incest. Niiiiiice! I wonder if Junior would still be marrying Bristol if her cut-throat, blind with ambition mother wasn’t running for VP

    • n8 says:

It will be made worth his while. Besides, the alternative is demonization and ostracism. I think the only way out for him (other than marrying the girl) would be to declare homosexuality.

  6. phoeniX says:

i love when politics ruin politicians lives…
it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling that perhaps they “know how we feel now”

because it DOES suck when government is involved in our lives to this extent

  7. Gonzo says:

This poor guy was just lookin’ for a little fun one evening, and now . . here he is . . on the national stage – lol – poor guy.

  8. Ebi says:

Never put anything on your MySpace page that you wouldn’t want on CNN.

    • boom says:

I can think of ONE thing he could’ve put on, to save being on CNN!

      • bootlegmarkchapman says:

But contraception actually INCREASES teenage pregnancy. I’m not sure how, but apparently that’s how it goes.

        • PiMan says:

You’ve been looking at the statistics backwards. The laws of physics and biology just don’t work that way.

          • bootlegmarkchapman says:

Wait, you mean the religious Right have been LYING to us all this time?

But that would suggest that they’re a bunch of scumbags. I don’t understand :(

            • Ebi says:

Never ascribe to malice what can reasonably explained by willful stupidity..

            • PiMan says:

They haven’t been lying the WHOLE time. For example, Jesus definitely existed, and was considered wise by many.

              • DeathWyrmNexus says:

He also consorted with whores and what was considered low class people of the time while trying to improve their lives. He preached tolerance and love. I keep waiting for the bible belt and other fundie groups to catch on but I just keep waiting and getting older… -_-

Assuming that you believe he existed and actually read about his life. I am personally fond of him smacking money lenders with a rope, mostly because it is a fun mental image. ACTION JESUS!!! NOW WITH ROPE AND MESSIAH GRIP!!!

        • lol says:

According to the religious right all you have do to is show a condom to a girl or say the word “condom” around a girl and voila! pregnant!

        • Kurt says:

I think it may be some people argue that with available contraception, more kids take the chance and have sex. And with more teenagers having sex, even if it is of the protected variety, that’s more teenagers at the risk of getting pregnant. Make sense?

I however do not beleive that particular argument, and beleive most teenagers who are going to have sex, are going to do so with or without protection, and making contraceptives widely available is only going to slightly increase the number of teens having sex.

          • DeathWyrmNexus says:

I don’t really think the numbers will change. Look at the numbers now. They are having tons of sex. Adding protection to the mix just adds protection to the mix really. I doubt any are hanging on the fence waiting for this epiphany of contraception to appear.

Read the second half Death, I don’t beleive the argument of “Yay condoms, lets go shag” leading to more teen pregnancy, I was just stating that I beleive that is what the opponents of contraception are trying to push on us.

  9. Anomnomnominus says:

Does anyone else feel like Palin’s plan to eliminate birth control is going to backfire on her completely? I mean, one: It obviously didn’t work for her daughter, so why would the rest of the country feel it would work for them? Two: The mostly Democratic congress would shoot down any bills she’d present to them about such an act anyway. And three: She’s running for VICE President; what kind of power does she really think she’s going to wield? Obviously, she overestimates what she’ll be doing. Then again, she doesn’t even know what she’s supposed to be doing in the post to begin with.

    • truthtalker says:

Do you have any idea what you’re talking about? I mean, really…

Just to answer this mindlessness – no one wants to “eliminate birth control”. Where you got that is beyond me. The Congress wouldn’t be shooting anything down because nothing would be presented to them because NO ONE is talking about eliminating all birth control.

Seriously. Pay attention to actual facts before you go fear mongering over imaginary “plans”.

      • Mayken says:

While we don’t seem as yet to have a definitive idea what her position is on birth control in general, we know that she is very pro-life (no exceptions even for life of the mother) and believes in abstinence only education (which spreads mis-information about birth control.) But you should know that yes, there are people trying to ban certain forms of birth control such as the IUD and some forms of the pill because they believe life begins at conception and these forms of birth control interfere with the implantation of a fertilized egg.
        http://www.salon.com/mwt/feature/2006/03/20/anti_contraception/
This movement is behind all the so-called “conscience exceptions” for pharmacists around the country. This is why Wal-mart won’t sell plan b. This is why our own Department of Health and Human Services has now instituted a policy allowed health care workers at federally funded clinics to have their own “conscience exception” to certain services they object on moral grounds. This includes even giving information about something they find morally objectionable. And it is NOT just abortion procedures but again, and birth control which could be seen as an abortifacient.
Access to legal abortion has been slowly eroded by admittedly clever religious “right” campaigns and now they have set their sites on certain forms of brith control. Again, don’t know for sure what Gov. Palin’s position is but she has some pretty extreme views on abortion so it is not hard to leap to her having similar on birth control.

        • truthtalker says:

Ok, I should have said “no one in this election”. Obviously there’s folks out there who believe everything. I once knew a guy who literally believed H.P. Lovecraft was a prophet and the Cthulhu mythos was absolutely real. So I don’t question that someone’s gonna believe almost anything. But banning all birth control isn’t in McCain, Obama, Palin, or Biden’s plans, so not an issue in this particular case.

          • Mayken says:

One cannot equate an organized and influential religious movement with some guy who reads way too much horror/sci-fi. Yes, a lot of people believe stupid things (like the Pill = abortion) but unfortunately some of them are in a position to force their opinions on us.
While I agree no one on either presidential ticket has stated he or she has a plan to ban birth control, I do not think it is fear mongering to bring up the fact that the so-called religious right is trying to curtail women’s access to birth control.
McCain is waffling all over the place on a lot of things but he has been pretty firmly anti-choice as has Palin. So again, not a big leap to think there is a possibility their views on birth control are extreme as well. And just because they don’t put it out there in black and white or state it in so many words does NOT mean they don’t have it in mind. Or that they would fight against the forces that really want to see us roll back the progress we have made for women’s control of their own bodies. Just sayin…
Banning birth control wasn’t on the publicized Bush/Cheney platform 8 years ago, yet here we are, many steps closer to doing so. http://www.hhs.gov/news/press/2008pres/08/20080821reg.pdf It’s still a long way off but then I didn’t think in the 90s there was any way we would be this close to losing Roe v Wade either…
I’m not sure what effect Palin’s views will have on the regression of our rights but I am not very trusting of her or McCain on this issue.

            • truthtalker says:

My argument was with stating that viewpoint belongs to Palin when she’s said nothing of the sort as if she already had. To it being a possiblity in the future, I highly doubt that as well. People aren’t going to take that large of a step backwards, no matter who tries to make them do it. And any politician wanting to get elected again wouldn’t bring it up in the first place. Although, anything’s possible, so yes, it’s good to remember. But since it’s not a current issue of any campaign it’s probably less important to worry about than some of the other issues at the moment.

              • Mayken says:

You’re right to argue about attributing it to Gov Palin. It seems from some comments above she may not be pro-contraception which at least makes more sense to me. I have always felt that if one is anti-abortion, one should be pro-contraception since we know proper education about and use of birth control reduces the NEED for abortions.
But I an many others think it is rather and important issue since, yes, NO ONE is _campaigning_ on this issue but it isn’t stopping those groups from pushing their agenda forward. And there is every sign the current administration is quite happy to help them do so. Don’t say it won’t or can’t happen. People thought that about abortion rights and yet we are only a heart-beat away from losing Roe v Wade. And a lot of what is happening with the anti-contraception crowd is very much below the radar. That’s why it has been so successful.
If Gov Palin is truly pro contraception, I would hope that, should the McCain/Palin ticket prevail, she would fight against those forces that are working rather successfully to roll back the clock.
Anyway, thanks for a polite exchange on a very difficult issue. subject. We’ve gotten far afield but what’s new about that on this site?
                Cheers!
