That is a foolish comment to make. They are not pregnant because they are not pregnant! Her daughter is! Who cares if when they get older they get prego out of wedlock, at that point he won’t be running for president. Not only that, but Obama does not have the same family issues. He is running for president, and it may not be his girls, but it could have been other things. The truth is it wasn’t and the fact is should have, could have, would haves are not what is being discussed, rather what is in front of us right now, and what is in front of us is a woman who can’t even seem to keep her family straight and be a completely honest about her past and things that effect her life (which Sen. Obama did that’s why nothing came out on him). So how can we trust this woman to be the VP and possible the Pres if something happens to McCain?

Where are the incest jokes about Obama and his girls? Oh wait, the families are supposed to be left out of it except when they are trotted out on stage to show what great families they are (“Hi Daddy! What city are you in?”) Just because Palin brings her kids on stage doesn’t mean they should be ripped. Obama has brought his kids on stage, Clinton did it with Chelsea, Biden references his kids every chance he gets…….I see no comparable slagging of the families on the liberal side. The argument could be made that Obama’s girls aren’t pregnant out of wedlock simply because they aren’t old enough yet. It’s the same type of crap that is being leveled at the Palin kids, and just as unfair.

Okay, I’m not going to attack your opinions or anything, but I just want to point out one thing: “he shouldn’t have to take responsibility for an accident.” So if I accidentally kill someone while practicing as a doctor, I shouldn’t be responsible for that? If I accidentally call someone a bitch because I was thinking it but didn’t mean to say it (not implying you– I am aware that Erik is usually a masculine name…) I shouldn’t appologize? And since when is a baby “an accident”? That baby was accidentally concieved, but calling that child “an accident” is dehumanizing. YOU put a hand on a pregnant woman’s stomach and tell me that thing moving around in there is just the vagaries of an internal organ…especially when it moves away from your poke.

When do you cut it off? What age is too young to have sex? Kids do have to be taught all of the options, but they are kids and the emphasis has to be on resisting the natural urges… that’s what adults do, teach kids the right things to do. It happens with drugs, alchol, cigarettes, driving a car… everything. Will some of them ignore it, hell yeah, but that doesn’t mean we don’t tell them.

She has made herself quite clear on her positions, and has even used her family to support them and gain credibility with those who agree with her. You can’t have it both ways. Seriously. I think Elders’ idea was a marvelous one. I actually was skimming parenting books in a Christian bookstore once and found a book that recommended masturbation as an alternative to sex. I forced my mother to buy it.

Then, weeks later, my father made me attend a parent/child session of my old church’s youth group where the definition of “sexual immorality” included “manual stimulation of yourself or others”. I was quite upset at that. I even asked the youth pastor where that definition came from and got him to admit that sexual immorality is never defined in the Bible.

Because there isn’t the option of being a father to the child and paying child support without marrying her.
And my family is quite conservative, but my cousin did the same thing and we all still love her.
Even my church has two members (sisters) who both had babies out of wedlock without marrying the fathers and no one is shunning them.

The baby doesn’t automatically have to mean marriage. In no way will that make whatever “mistake” they made be right again.

In my opinion their only mistake was failing to practice effective birth control methods.
(And please, no one give me the 1% stuff I heard about Jamie Lynn when know one knew if she’d used condoms or the pill or not. It’s highly unlikely two high-profile teen pregnancies were both the cause of that 1%. Also, ripped condoms are what emergency contraception is for.)

Palin is not winning any votes by forcing her daughter, through pro-life brainwashing now or earlier in life, to have a child. The same pro-life crowd that McCain already had in the bag now has an ill-timed reason to worry about Palin’s supposed family values. I kind of doubt this is a forced marriage, but I wouldn’t be surprised. Didn’t he have a Myspace page that said he didn’t want kids?

I think Palin is exploiting the kids and putting a lot of pressure on them. These kids are going to be in the spotlight now, whether they wanted to or not. Being in high school and pregnant is one of the worst things that can happen to a teenage girl. Having that news plastered all over the country and your mom parading you around like the poster child for good morals and values is even worse. The majority of teen marriages fail, and this marriage will be under a TON of pressure because of Palin’s “no sex before marriage” views. Now Palin wants to make herself look good because her unwed pregnant teen daughter didn’t get an abortion. Come on, lots of women don’t get abortions. That doesn’t make them better than everyone else.

I don’t really feel sorry for Bristol and Levi because Bristol got pregnant. I feel sorry for them because they are being forced into the public spotlight, whether they like it or not. Due to Sarah Palin’s political beliefs, they will probably be under even more pressure because if they go something wrong, Sarah Palin will be totally blamed. And if you see videos and pictures of political conventions and such, Bristol and Levi look a little freaked out in many of them.

No, Palin didn’t decide to release the information to counter the rumors about Trig from those meany left-wing bloggers. Palin decided to release the story because the Enquirer had informed her that they had the story and they were going to run with it. Palin released her side of the story as a pre-emptive strike so that she could put her own positive spin on it and blame those horrible meany bloggers. Because really, countering a rumor by tossing your own kid under the bus makes so much sense.

You DON’T have to get married in order to accept responsibility or be a good father/parent.

I believe this marriage is forced in the sense that the family view point is such- pro life, no premarital sex, etc. The view point is a little old fashioned, but is such – you knock up/get knocked up, you do the “right thing” and get married. Also, I do NOT believe this would have changed had Palin not been selected as the Republican VP candidate. I do believe it was made all the more worse for it, though.

Also, I’m with CF on this one. It just seems like Palin is putting herself and her country first, and her family last. My purest opinion, but if you choose to have a family and children, they come first until those kids are adults. It’s not just Bristol that is making me say this, but she has four kids that are under 18 and one has Down syndrome. With the media the way it is, I think this puts these kids in a tricky situation, and I don’t think it’s fair to the kids. Bristol and Levi are in a hard situation and now they are not allowed a chance to figure things out, and are going to be used by both sides (Dems & Reps) no matter what the outcome is.

I’m leaving it at this for now.
