So, let me see if I get the rules, as laid out by EP. You can call Obama a terrorist despite him never commiting ANY acts of terrorism and it is not smear. However we can not question Palin’s parenting skills based on her own actions without it being called smear? I will again remind you EP, in the hopes that you read it this time, that NO ONE has attacked Sarah Palin’s children. The only thing that has been done is the questioning of Palin’s parenting skills, something that is fair game when you are the VP nominee for the family values party.

I believe the democrats have suddenly developed a keen sense of morality. John Edwards was banned from making a speech at the Democratic convention for having an affair and lying about it.

I have two kids and when my water broke (BROKE, not *leaked*), I was admitted right away and induced with both of them. In both instances, when I questioned the need for needles, I was told that once the fluid starts coming, the baby is coming too and the longer the tyke stays in there, the greater the chance for birth complications. I said okay to the damn needle and was induced with both.
(First one was a female OB/GYN and the second was a midwife. I highly recommend the latter!)

About 1/2 way down under EARLY ARRIVAL it mentions the 4 am (TX time) call to the Dr saying her fluid was leaking.
The tone is of course up-beat and covers over the risks. What else can they do? The Dr. said she never asked for medical clearance but he didn’t see why she shouldn’t fly … he is the only OB/GYN that would say anything like that I would bet.

It was there last week … I can’t find it now and the archives won’t let me register without putting in a credit card … not gonna do that.
All the same searches I did last week (still saved in drop downs) are turning up nothing but the new story about the daughter being pregnant nothing about the mom’s pregnancy.
The article I read was not negatively slanted, it said that palin called her Dr. at 4 am when her amniotic fluid started to leak (stated an opinion from a board certified ob/gyn that leakage is the same a broken in cases of infection, still means there is a way for bacteria to get in)
It was actually a fairly nice little piece on Sara Palin … wonder why it is moved?

Well, her daughter isn’t a case of immaculate conception – if that abstinance only teaching worked we would have a lot less to talk about.
Of course she still wants to push it on our families … seeing as how it is working so well for her.

There is now a lot out there to show that Palin was not well vetted. Her local paper was not contacted for archived stories until the Dems did it after the announcement. Her approval in Alaska is actually 15 points lower than McCain people claim and falling.

I just gave up because I am having a hard time reconciling this with my own beliefs. I think it is a woman’s right to have control over her body and that includes adoption in my view. In all honesty I would probably look more favorably on a woman who adopted her daughter’s child than one who flew at 8 months pregnant.

My main disconnect here is that Palin wants abstinence only teaching in all of our schools and will have some power to start us down that road. It obviously is not working very well in her own house but she wants to impose it on the rest of us. Yes, we can teach our children anything we personally want to teach them BUT kids don’t always listen to parents and parents don’t always take the time to explain things to kids. I want science in the classrooms, from “big bang” to sex ed – I want science. Palin wants creationism taught in the science classroom and she has voted against any kind of science added abstinance only teaching.

I don’t think kids should be having sex. I really don’t think they are emotionally ready or physically ready for it. But when have you heard of a kid accepting “because I said so” as a valid reason not to do something?

I don’t personally believe in abortion but I don’t think it is anyone else’s right to say women can’t have one. Palin opposes the Rape/Incest exclusions. She seems perfectly ok with making the victim carry her attacker’s child regardless of how that might ruin their lives or affect mental well being.

Pro-Lifers already have a choice, no one is forcing them onto a table to get abortions. Why would they want to force people to seek dangerous and illegal procedures by removing the safe legal option. Especially in the case of rape and incest?

Anyway…

With regards to the gender differences: western doctors — primarily male, oddly enough — follow a strict set of rules and regulations, most of which err on the side of caution so much so I don’t feel comfortable with them (I dunno, something about 1 in 3 births being cesarean, or that babies are given a Hep B vaccine shortly after birth (in case the parent gives them dirty hypo needles instead of a teddy bear?)).

Midwives adopt a more patient-oriented approach, allowing the woman to make the majority of decisions and generally letting things go as they will.

Doctors are mostly living in fear of litigation, therefore they are overly cautious, which is why I’m so surprised Palin’s doc gave her such miserable advise. So many things could have gone wrong — but they didn’t.

Yes, I agree with the philosophy of “save it if you can”, but if it’s not going to work, rip the band-aid off quickly. My parents divorced when I was two and it wasn’t quite the hell until they both remarried and tried to prove the other one wrong by sticking it out in an even shittier re-marriage (“for the kids”). *That* was hell.

If the marriage is irreparable, end it fast and amicably, and project none of the bullshit onto the kid(s).

No wiki told me that; I am repeating information drilled into my head by my wife’s midwife in regards to things to do and things not to do. Even joking about flying in the last trimester engendered a stern and disapproving glower.

As I’ve said before, I am not aware of the full details and am merely relaying information applicable to the conversation at hand. Prior to this posting, I hadn’t heard that “water breaking” had been downgraded to “amniotic leaking”. Yes, I’m aware of the difference as it relates to pending emergency. Way to check a timestamp.

I’ll assume you didn’t read any of the other info posts I’d made, and will chalk the “despite what you think” line up to ignorance and not schoolyard name-calling. I will point out though that the bacterial flora and fauna of the vagina is different from that of the amnion. (Don’t kid yourself: every orifice of your body has an ecology of bacteria). This has the potential for harm.

You are right in childbirth being a natural process (we opted for a water birth at home, overseen by said midwife and her colleague). Heavier-than-air flight is not so natural. There haven’t been too many studies done of in-flight labor stresses and stressors, especially as they relate to Downs-positive babies. It is this part that worries me.
