I thought martial arts was supposed to be calming. This definitely isn’t like “The Karate Kid”
I think this guy violated a basic principle of the practice.
“You need emotional content … not anger!”
Cuba’s taekwondoist Angelo Matos kicking out his rage on Swedish judge Chakir Chelbat! This happened at the olympics last week in Beijing.
Yah, he got mad because he was disqualified by taking too long to recover from an injury. Apparently he was given sufficient warning of how much time he had left to continue the fight but neither he nor his trainer understood, so they violated the rules and he was disqualified. So, it started this huge argument and he just got mad enough to kick the judge in the face. How honorable.

There’s a push right now to have both the athlete and his trainer permanently banned from the Olympics.
Not the Olympics, but the sport itself, for life, effective as of the very same day this whole thing happened.
The issue was that one minute is the international standard for the sport AND he was warned 40 seconds into it; he could have stood up and requested another minute, but didn’t, AND then he was apparently not injured enough not to be able to kick the judge in the face.
Being a black belt and presumably having tournament experience, there’s no way he or his trainer didn’t know what was happening.
He should have really wailed on the guy. Cracking his lip open with a kick was not enough.

Technically, that was him kicking the referee. Though he did kick a judge too when they all swarmed in to try to stop him. Judges are in blue coats. Four, one in each corner and a wall of judges sitting off to the side to review playback tapes if need be.
And for the record, his ‘injury’ was him hurting the top of his already sprained foot and he took it like a baby. He was pretty damn cranky during his match against the Korean fighter before this match too. Someone must have pissed in his cornflakes.

Fidel actually arose from his slumber to defend this guy’s actions…blaming it on racism, elitism, eurocentriscism….really, to many “-ism” to list. Pathetic.
What an ass. Now he’s banned from the sport for life. So is his coach. Hope it was worth it, but I doubt it.
If you already have an injured foot, don’t kick someone in the face! Well, you shouldn’t kick someone in the face anyway of course . . .

Cool… that judge lives in a town like… 15 kilometers away from me. ^^ They intervjued him in the newspapers the other day. He said it hurtzed.
