The athlete is Sally McLellan from the Australian team, this picture is taken at the 100m hurdles finals at the Beijing Olympics.
I’m not familiar with that hurdle technique.
She was the surprise silver medallist (well, she was surprised).

I’m not ‘flaming’ or anything, but why is whenever a pic like this one pops up, someone always feels compelled to ‘tell us all the facts about the pic’? If you watched the olympics and saw this race, you probably know who this is. If you didn’t, you probably don’t care anyway.. just sayin’, y’know?
well, if you watched the olympics but didn’t see this race then you probably don’t know, and might like to (I actually did want to know.)
Beyond that, what difference does it make if someone is compelled to provide info about a pic? Does it ruin the joke for you or something?

They mostly do it because it says “Who is that in the picture? Tell us in the comments” below each picture. I like knowing where the more bizarre photos came from.
Half the time people get it wrong anyway. Unidentified bald guys labelled as Dick Cheney despite somehow having radical EAR surgery if that was the case. Guys who look nothing like Tom Ridge labelled as such.
I like to hear about what’s going on in the picture on this site (COMPLETELY different from, say, Lolcats) … although it’s agonizingly annoying to read 40 comments on what’s going on – half of them wrong. Once someone posts with proof and it’s verifiably correct, there’s no need for idiots to continuing to prove that they have some new valuable information. They remind me a lot of the “OMGFIRST” posters.
