Look, like Dude said earlier, I don’t think it’d be fun to haul out the ‘ol Bush pinata and whack away. Double standard it may be, but you can not completely ignore historical context and pull out an Obama pinata and start beating on it, not if you don’t want the local KKK chapter to come over and join in on the fun. Unfair? Yes, but you’re welcome to try it in an African-American neighborhood and see if explaining your political reasoning gets you anywhere.

In all seriousness though, if liberals are seen as being the more tolerant and compassionate party it is simply because of certain causes being seen as liberal causes. Supporting gay marriage, social programs, and so on are seen as tolerant viewpoints and so the whole party is viewed as being tolerant and compassionate. Is this fair? Well, again you’re trying to take political views and using them to pigeonhole people into a type and you just can’t do that, the world doesn’t work that way. There are hypocrites on both sides of the fence because people are human and imperfect and don’t always live up to our ideals.

I think it would be interesting to do some serious research on tolerance-versus-political-leaning. But I’m not aware of any study like that without itsown predetermined political agenda.

Still, there is a mythology among liberals, who like to consider themselves the “tolerant”, “compassionate” and “unprejudiced” part of society, with conservatives portrayed as the opposite. You may not subscribe to that false world view, but a great many liberals do.

I like to poke at this myth. It gets a good reaction, and it really is a myth that needs to be exposed and discredited.

Okay, I’m going to attempt to write this again and if it posts twice I’m going to Hulk out and smash something.

I’m sorry EP but you can NOT say that. Liberals do not hate conservatives more than conservatives hate liberals. No one party has a lock on intolerance. For every example of liberal intolerance you give me I’m sure I can find one of conservative intolerance. However, then we’d be here all day and we’d get nothing done. You can say that you don’t like any of the ideas liberals stand for without saying that they are intolerant, just like I say I don’t agree with most of what conservatives advocate without calling them intolerant. PEOPLE are bigoted and intolerant and close-minded, not politcal leanings.

A lot of people like to hate on you EP and I mostly give you the benefit of the doubt because half the time I think you say stuff just to stir the pot and we get some good discussions out of it. However you’ve been getting into some serious discussions lately that I’ve enjoyed reading and I’ve started to expect better out of you! :p
