  1. Judith says:

    first…?

    • Kaitlin says:

      Don’t wanna be like
Every other girl in the world
Like every other one who wants you
‘Cause when I see you, something inside me burns
And then I realize I wanna come first

  2. Kaitlin says:

    Brix were shat.

  3. herb says:

My god; they’re like matching bookends…

  4. dude im on it says:

Meh… can’t say the situation is EXACTLY the same. You’d have to throw Saakashvili in the mix of the blame!

  5. Snarkygal says:

Love the matching smirks. Putin is sooooo giving us the finger. Subtle, Vlad.

  6. kthnxbai says:

mmmm…. bush and condie have short term memory loss

    Condie:
“This is not 1968 and the invasion of Czechoslovakia, where Russia can threaten a neighbor, occupy a capital, overthrow a government and get away with it,”

ummm HELLO???? then WTF is it that you did????

the most dangerous thing about the Iraq war was the precedent it set…

    Way to go Dubya!

    • sweetroscoe says:

Is this what it’s come to? That anytime anything goes wrong, no matter how disconnected from the event he may be, the bush hates STILL have to grasp for straws to blame the guy?

You’d be stupid to think that Iraq somehow set a “precedent” of any kind…or that Iraq lead to this…or that there are really much, if ANY parallels b/w the two invasions.

      • dude im on it says:

I think the Rice statement sorta lent itself to making a connection… when was the last time something like that happened? More recent than 68! It’s just a bad place to come from…

      • GenXCub says:

Country A has been invaded for no good reason… past politics and hurt feelings based on past relations with the country spurred them into confrontation. Fake Intelligence was knowingly used to get public support

Country B has been invaded for no good reason… past politics and hurt feelings based on past relations with the country spurred them into confrontation. No intelligence was used, they just went in and invaded.

This is not splitting hairs here. The aggressors for both Georgia and Iraq have such similar motivations that you can’t just say it’s grasping.

    • hobo erectus says:

Um, Saddam violated the ceasefire agreement from the Gulf war. Georgia is a free country, whose only “crime” is existing near Russia.

      • dude im on it says:

Actually, Georgia put a stronghold on the Ossetians, killed the Russian peacekeepers, and shot down 2 Russian jets to start the entire thing. Both Russia and Georgia have blood on their hands, my dear.

        • Evil Pundit says:

Georgia was only responding to continued attacks on its territory by Ossetians.

        • hobo erectus says:

riiiiight…. Georgia thought it would be clever if the massive Russian army shot up their country. The Russians into giving the Georgians the valuable exploded bombs and fired bullets that they were so desperate to acquire.

How could the Russias have been so blind …. the Georgians *obviously* was wring to shoot down a a Russian fighter jet that was just dropping by to wave “hi”….

          • dude im on it says:

Like I have said, both countries are at fault here. Russia over-reacted. In interviews with Georgians, one will blame Russia, another will blame Saakashvili. The Ossetians wanted to be their own state. And I don’t understand most of the point you are making, sorry. The last part is a bit jumbled.

            • herb says:

There is no gray where the Right is concerned. In their dualistic worldview, one must be absolutely right, one must be absolutely wrong. There is no middle ground.

              • ema says:

Not entirely true, conservatives believe in an absolute good and evil, but there is always room for middle ground with most conservatives. Trouble is that ends up being a weakness that is taken advantage of.

                • herb says:

The polarizing effects of media: most people that are middle-ground reasonable conservatives (like you) get unfairly lumped into the same category as the Rushes, Bill’Os, and Evil Pundits; just as rather accepting progressives like me get lumped into PC-Nazis and Kieth Olbermans.

I myself would rather be thought of alongside Gandhi and Edward R. Murrow.

                  • Jane says:

Well said, that’s the problem with the ‘us vs. them’ mentality that makes up party politics. We’re so busy trying to get one over on the other guys and beat them to the punch that we never get anything done, sadly.

                    • ema says:

True, but it’s also what makes our government work, at least it’s supposed to. We should be able to balance out the extremes on both sides with 2 opposing parties. Sometimes that means we end up with mediocrity and that may not be a good thing with what’s going on around us… Balance is always the key in my opinion.

                      • Matt11 says:

I am an american nationalist socialist. Where do i line up?

Oh and if anyone even makes a cough that sounds like “Nazi” I will…

                        um…

                        never mind…

      • PortlandMark says:

Actually, I don’t think Saddam agreed to anything. We just declared: “Ok, we’re done kicking your ass now, Sadam. We’re gonna keep these no fly zones, and you can go to hell if you think you can do anything about it!” No agreement needed, asked for, or in force.

        • eddiepscetti says:

Actually, he wasn’t in a position to agree to anything after he invaded Kuwait. The other Arab nations were more then happy to keep him contained.

    • HumorFail says:

What’s really ironic is that America had no idea Russia was going to invade, and the president of Georgia (a HUGE American supporter in every arena, including Iraq) recieved Bush’s promise of support as an ally. Now Russia has invaded Georgia, and America can’t do anything because a) they haven’t got the man power b) Russia has used justifications for invading that are very similar to America’s own c) the future of America’s leadership is cloudy d) International politics for the USA suck right now. But, what does that say about America’s promises? America will take the assistance of an ally, and hand out assurances of protection like candy. When it all hits the fan, America will send ‘mediators.’ Same thing happened in Vietnam. Same thing happened in Afghanistan. Every empty promise is only ever half fulfilled, then people are left to the mercy of warlords, drug cartels, and dictators who now have a trained, supplied army and a huge vacuum to fill. This is the fate of American allies and sympathizers, to be left behind with their greatly diminished ability to protect themselves. If America abandons Iraq for Georgia, that will be the fate of the people of Iraq. If Bush abandons Georgia to Russia whom America has supplied with training, technology, and aid since 1984…well, the United States has lost all credibility. What an amazing era we live in…

      • DoctorWorm says:

The reason the US can’t intervene militarily is because of all the hippies and home protesting war of all kinds. This delusion that there will never be war, and all we need to do is talk nicely to people who hate us so we can all hold hands and sing “Kumbaya” is part of the myth that is leading us to failure in Iraq. Why in the name of God would you tell your enemies that if they don’t surrender in 5 months, they win? Heaven help us from the stupidity of the American citizen.

        • Ceefax says:

The reason the US can’t intervene militarily in Russia or Iran is because spineless cowards were scared into allowing Bush to use the military as his own personal errand boys to chase up a personal grudge, leaving the US defenseless when the armed forces are needed to actually protect the country.

          • PortlandMark says:

            Well said.

          • eddiepscetti says:

Protect us from who? Canada? Mexico? Wait, let me guess, Cuba! I new it had to be Cuba. As I stated previously, while the war in Iraq was a mistake on Bush’s part, the fact is, the world is that much better without Hussein in it. I guess during the Cold War you would have been a proponent of bringing home the military stationed at NATO bases as well?

          • Matt11 says:

The reason we can’t intervene with russia is because

WE’D GET NUKED THE FUCK OUT!

        • PortlandMark says:

Lol! “Hippies”! Stuck in the sixties much?

        • herb says:

How are we going to pay for a war with Russia? Borrow still more money from China, Russia’s ally? (“Hey, man, can I have borrow a few billion more to try to beat up your best friend?”)

Where are we going to get the manpower? We don’t have enough soldiers to take care of a country the size of Texas.

And finally, let’s not forget that Russia (and its partner in crime China) has many nuclear warheads at their disposal. Genuine WMDs, not phantom maybe-there.

    • ShadowGryphon says:

      Really ?
Hmmm I guess you forgot that He had the backing of the congress in the attack on Iraq.
And are you so certain that we are going to ” occupy the capital”? never mind the FACT that the US military takes a continually decreasing roll in what happens in Iraq, also… please name another country that the US has continued to “occupy” after we have officially declared an end to military activities.

Seems it’s easier for you to simply cast ignorant dispersions, the facts be damned.

      • eddiepscetti says:

Well, not that I disagree with you, but Japan was occupied for decades after the war.

      • PiMan says:

Puerto Rico. Invaded as part of the Spanish-American War in 1898, a part of the US even since.

        • PiMan says:

          *_ever_ since

        • PiMan says:

-Oh, and Germany. See United_States_Air_Forces_in_Europe in Wikipedia.
They never left after WWII, just cut down a lot.
-And Cuba. Guantanamo Bay was also established established during the Spanish-American War. The United States have a permanent lease on the property.
-And Japan. There are still US forces there in bases established after WWII, although Japan currently permits them to be there through the “Treaty of Mutual Cooperation and Security between the United States and Japan”

  7. Zimmian says:

I guess it wouldn’t help to say that Georgia declared war on Russia, would it?

  8. Ryan says:

Countries don’t invade other countries in the 21st century!

  9. Hein says:

There exists a broadly accepted principle to draw international boundaries along previous administrative frontiers, in particular when countries break up. Russia wants to break that principle. That is *far* more dangerous than the invasion of Iraq, never mind how much I was and remain opposed to that foolish policy. And it could well bite the Russians in their butts. Chechnya, to name but one, is a region in Russia that wants independence. And we do remember how Russia dealt with this. (Including the broadly shared suspicion that the Kremlin or former KGB staged the apartment bombings in Moscow to get the country behind Mr. Putin to strike hard at Chechnya after a ceasefire had been arranged and more or less held for about a year or so.

  10. D'oh says:

Fact fail: who started this crap? Indeed: Georgia. So who’s the warmongerer in this particular story, indeed: Georgia. Although ofcourse, Russia went batshit insane with “punishing” Georgia. All of them are tards.

  11. ReTARDIS says:

YES YES YES! THANK YOU! I LOVE IT! TAKE THAT, CRAP-THROWING MONKEY BOY BUSH!

  12. hobo erectus says:

Wow …. way to compare the freely-elected government of Georgia with Saddam. Screw them eastern Europeans if it means you can get in a shot on Bush!

  13. dude im on it says:

Who do you trust, Evil Pundit? And I think whether someone is ousted is pretty easily verified information ;-) Just pointing out a fact. I’m for informed people!

    • Jane says:

EP distrusts all mainstream media, they’re a part of the leftist plot that will destroy America if we’re not ever vigilant. EP trusts EP though, and whatever site clicking on his name brings you to, I’m pretty sure he trusts that.

      • dude im on it says:

Glad to see you here, Jane. You’re a smart, smart lady ;-)

      • eddiepscetti says:

If the mainstream media would just report the facts and not let their clouded viewpoint enter into the stories they report on, then maybe you would have a point. But the fact is, if you trust everything the NY Times, LA Times, CNBC, MSNBC, and yes, even Fox puts out, then you will be whoafully ignorant of current events.

    • Evil Pundit says:

I check a variety of media, particularly blogs. I read many different viewpoints and make my own conclusions.

The blogs are especially good for pointing out the biases of the mainstream media, such as the BBC. Since Jane mentions it, there’s a BBC-related blog under my name this time. :)

  14. dude im on it says:

Oh, I shop around, too. I don’t just look at the BBC. You kinda have to look at the individual pieces to get a big picture.

  15. hueydoc says:

Why doesn’t Obama just leap into the air using his stupi ..er.. Super powers and fly to Russia and stop the war and bring Love and enlightenment to all ?
    Yes We Can-not!

  16. bittervoter says:

Ok, it’s not that I disgree with the caption, I just don’t find it particularly funny. It went past light-hearted poking fun into “oh…they went there”.
Oh ema and huey doc *shakes head*, how do you ever expect anyone to take you seriously when your arguments are “ZOMG. Obama is a terrorist like Osama, because their names are sort of the similar and Obama’s dad was raised Muslim!!!”. Plus, part of the problem with the country lately is people trying to polarize it, not everyone has to be a left-winger or a right-winger, and he even has military personal supporting him, ie not peacenik hippies.

    • Evil Pundit says:

Ema and Hueydoc don’t make arguments like that. Either you don’t read this site much, or you are misrepresenting them.

      • ryszard says:

It’s great to know that there are some conservative and/or truly open-minded people here. After the “I’ll f*** you both” post–to which I take bitter exception on the grounds of both taste and LOL’s own ostensible editorial standards (i.e., been there, done that) I was ready to give up on this blog.

Russia invaded Hungary, a sovereign state, in 1956. North Vietnam did the same to South Vietnam (date indeterminate), with heavy Russian and Chinese support. Russia did it again in 1968, this time to Czechoslovakia.

There is good evidence that the Chechnyan rebels were not a Russian provocation, but were actually Islamofascists (who are in fact at war with civilization as a whole, not just the US or the West).

Be that as it may, Russia has once again invaded a sovereign nation, killed thousands of civilians, looted homes and stores, and in general acted like the bastards that they have always been. You can understand why Poland and the Baltic states are rather nervous; fortunately, they are members of NATO, which compels a response on fellow members’ part if Russia moves on them.

Just stirrin’ the pudding! And hopefully shedding some light as well.

        R.

        • ryszard says:

In my original post I had written “. . . Russians . . . acted like the nekulturny bastards that they have always been”. The Russian word “nekulturny” was deleted, either because it was bracketed, or because it the meaning was unknown. Nekulturny translates as “uncultured”, but carries a much deeper meaning within their own culture–something more like “barbarically unmannered”. It is neither profane nor inappropriate, as it describes them perfectly. kthxbai, R.

          • Evil Pundit says:

            Thanks for your contribution.

Interestingly, the Moscow Times now has an article indicating that the Russian claim of civilian massacres by Georgia might not have been true.

    • hueydoc says:

I’ve spent too much time reading “ObamaNation” and the more I find out about this hack, the more scarey he becomes ! The Emperor has no clothes!
This guy has less substance than Dukakis or Kerry… Hopefully, he’ll have the same destiny.

      • Ceefax says:

ObamaNation, a book with zero grounding in reality to the point of getting basic facts about things like when Obama got married flat out wrong, nevermind the bizarre fantasies he explores. Unsurprising when it was written by aguy from World Net Daily,, whose main headline the other day was “Astonishing photo claims: Dead Bigfoot stored on ice”

Seriously, if you take the ramblings of guys like Corsi as fact then I have some magic beans I’d like to sell you.

        • hueydoc says:

Oh Really ? He’s got all his sources listed. Have you actually read it? Or is it an inconvenient truth?

          • Ceefax says:

The book is even getting panned on Convervative websites like CommentaryMagazine.com, who worry that the fact it’s a pack of outright lies, many of which are easily proved to be lies with even basic research, is going to have a negative effect on McCain.

“According to reports, Corsi has suggested that Hillary Rodham Clinton is a lesbian, called John Kerry โ€œanti-Christian, anti-Americanโ€ and called Pope John Paul II โ€œsenile,โ€ and said pedophilia โ€œis OK with the Pope as long as it isnโ€™t reported by the liberal press.โ€

As for the book: it seems to be riddled with factual errors . . .

The GOP is the party that gave us Lincoln and Reagan. It seems to me that its leaders ought to make it clear that they find what Dr. Corsi is doing to be both wrong and repellent. To have their movement and their party associated with such a figure would be a terrible thing and it will only help the cause of those who hold both the GOP and the conservative movement in contempt. “

            • hobo sapiens says:

hmmm…. “according to reports”? But not the actual book? Call me old fashioned, but I generally read a book before pretending I have an opinion on it…

              • Ceefax says:

Maybe you should actually read what you’re replying to, the reports say he said those things – the article then continues “As for the book”.

            • hueydoc says:

I know a guy who was Secret Service at the White House when the Clintons were ther- he said Hillary snuck in as many girlfriends as Bill did, and that their marriage was a sham. When I asked how did they have Chelsea, he shrugged and said that they both must have been VERY drunk at the same time!
And yes, Kerry is Anti-American- I don’t know about the anti-Christian part.

        • hobo sapiens says:

ummmm… you’ve read the book? Or just the Official Memo from the Obama people?

          • Ceefax says:

Have you read Obamas books? Or do you just believe what Corsi says is in them Because in ObamaNation, for example. Corsi claims that Obama never mentions the birth of his sister in Dreams of my Father. Idiots like you will just believe him because “He’s got his sources in his book!!!” Of course if you actually picked up Dreams From My Father you’d see Obama does indeed talk about it. This isn’t a problem for Corsi of course, because his target audience are morons, won’t actually bother to check and happily lap up everything as gospel, just like the urban legend emails they forward on about how the Bible says Obama is the anti-Christ.

            • Jane says:

Well, if Obama IS the anti-Christ than at least we’ll die in the (wait for it) Mother F***ing Apocalypse!!!! (although Patton Oswalt did think it would be brought about by Bush)

          • Ceefax says:

Oh, and Corsi is also one of those nuts who believes there’s a secret plot to turn the US, Canada and Mexico into a superstate, something that ranks him along Scientologists, people who believe the moon landings are fake and David Ike in the conspiracy theorist chart countdown.

  17. bob says:

Not funny, it’s way too wordy.

  18. nig nog says:

    85th

  19. dimon says:

Well, at least our president isn’t a dumb monkey. Yors won’t be in a few months, too, i guess it’s a relieve to have someone smart after 8 years.

  20. Guess Again says:

Yeah…about that comment about Saddam earlier…
    I agree he was a mass-murdering f*ck-head, however,

    1. Google: “Saddam and Rumsfeld shaking hands”

    2. We sold Saddam the mustard gas (and other weapons) that he used to kill the Kurds

    3. About the first Gulf war…how about Kuwait not abiding by the ceasefire? ever heard of slant-drilling? yeah…I think you would invade if someone was stealing your resources…

    4. Both parties are part of the United Party of Capitalism. They differ on almost nothing…so people, seriously, both are just as bad – keeping the same bullsh*t status quo. You’re all sheep “Baaaaaahhhh!”
