China should get a Nobel Prize in Audacity for even putting a bid in, what with the dream of non-political competition and all… The IOC should get the nod in Fantasy for awarding it.
I couldn’t believe China was actually awarded the games. That said what little of the olympics I’ve seen has given me the idea that maybe the Chinese people deserve it, even if their opressive government does not. So many of the average citizens seem to be bursting with pride at their chance to show off a little. After all the cultural purges and other “fun times” the communist government has inflicted on them it has to be good for them to get a chance to celebrate being Chinese.
