I have to concur- since I come from the Land of Guns, it looks to me like they’re training the guy, the hard way, to figure out how to use the sights on the thing. Personally, I’d use a chalkboard – Could be a cultural thing too, since so many of the folks seem to think Allah will guide their aim. Allah don’t know squat about rifles.

Even with the safety on, that’s still a pretty boneheaded way to check “sight alignment” (with a magazine in the gun and the bolt closed.)
