Thank you. My Monday is brighter and my smirk is happier.

Congrats. You guys have turned what is supposed to be light fun into a politcal debate. Please grow up and get over yourselves. Nobody cares about your political opinion and I really don't want to have to scroll through a billion comments to get to someone who actually commented on the PICTURES.

Nice of you to put in the effort.

However, your analysis does not invalidate either of the points I made:

That Bush beat Kerry, receiving the greatest number of votes of any President, ever. This is still true in terms of absolute numbers.

More importantly, it shows that Seth's ‘everyone hates Bush’ theory fails miserably.

It seems the old saying is true: Statistics don't lie, but liars use statistics.
In actuality, absolute numbers of votes only tell part of the story in any election. At least two other factors, percentage of popular votes received and percentage of electoral votes recieved, must be included in order to accurately report the results of an election. Since I'm only evaluating Evil Pundit's statement about vote totals, I'll confine my investigatoin to the absolute numbers and the percent of popular votes.
In 2004, Bush did indeed receive 62 million votes, and that number is in fact the 'greatest number of votes of any President.' This is all the more impressive since the previous election George W. Bush only carried 50 million. He must have been quite popular, especially considering his 2000 result blew Clinton's 1996 total of 47 million right out of the water. There appears to be a trend developing here. Let's think about this for a moment.
Between 1992 and 2004 every elected president won more votes than his predecessor. Clearly that means that in this timeframe each elected president was mor popular than his predecessor (even if that predecessor was himself). Right?
The percentages seem to tell a different story. Lets first look at the previous record holder, Ronald Regan. In 1984 he carried 54 million votes. Undoubtedly a respectable number, but certainly less than Bush's '04 total of 62 million. But which of these two men was the more popular candidate? Bush beat Kerry by 2.46% of the popular vote in 2004, whereas Reagan beat Mondale by 18.2%. How to explain the descrepancy? Simple: populaiton growth. The CIA world factbook estimates US populaiton growth at .88% annually. This number fluctuates from year to year, but has remained consistently in the positive. If we assume .88% annual growth compunded annually, we will see a population increase of roughly 3.57% over 4 years. This means that every election will have a higher absolute population than the election prior to it. While this does not result in a 1:1 increase in the voting populatoin, we would expect to see some increase in the voting population nonetheless. So it seems rather logical to conclude that the observed trend of absolute numbers of votes for elected presidents increaasing over time is positively correleated to the increase in population over time. Put simply, there are more votes because, in part, there are more people alive that are capable of voting.
In fact, Bush's margin of victory in 2004 is decidedly on the low end. In the last 24 years, 6 full election cycles from 2004, only one contest has been decided by a narrower margin: The 2000 election was decided by .51% of the vote...in favor of Mr. Gore.
I realize that I'm weeks behind in this post, and it will likely remain unread. However I can't abide would-be pundits posting skewed statistics in an attempt to dupe readers into subscribing to their philosophy, especially when said pundit has repeatedly encouraged posters to 'look it up and put it all together'. As if the rest of us are somehow incapable of comprehending complex political situations. As if only he has the mental fortitude to sift through media bias and find 'the truth'. And notwithstanding the fact that the bulk of his posts rely on cheap rhetoric and statistics which are, themselves, either skewed or misrepresented.

Me too. It's the same everywhere. All the media is pro-Obama, and anti everyone else, because they don't want to be labeled as "racist." We're giving the man way too much power. Personally, I don't care if the next president is black, white or purple. I'm just hoping for an intelligent one. Which leaves Obama OUT. He talks ALOT...and says absolutely NOTHING. Yet has millions who agree with him. WHAT does that say about the intelligence level of our country???

Everyone ALWAYS says the president who's currently in office is the "worst president ever." The sitting president is merely the most convienent target for the nation's anger. As soon as he gets out, w/i 6 months, whoever the NEW president is will become "the worst president EVER!" and they'll be wishing Bush was still in office. LOL. Just wait. It happens every election.

Most Americans could not handle pure conservatism and to be honest, pure conservatism in a historical context is unAmerican. It requires a monarchy.

The kind of true conservatism that I would like to see is a return to the ideals of our country's founders. Those libertarian and classical liberal ideas that have keep us alive and well for well over 2 centuries.

It would be nice if we could return to the world before the government bloat of FDR and tried to solve the problems of that generation with more libertarian and Austrian economic models. But alas, I am afraid it is just too late for that. America is a big government nation. Our only hope at this point is to shrink the government down to a moderate level that is controllable and contained. McCain might be the person to do that. I don't know. All I do know is that Barack will add to government bloat and deficits. It will not be a return to the "fiscal responsibility" of the Clintons. Or the responsible diplomacy of the H.W. Bush years.

Obama speaks in RFK and LBJ terms, but I am very frightened that we are looking at another Jimmy Carter or Dubya. Nice words and policies from the point of view of their supporters, but in the end... all hat, no cattle.

The 'everybody hates Bush' theory is actually quite valid.

Though he may have received the 'greatest number of votes of any President ever,' that doesn't truly mean much of anything. Sure, they all liked Bush in 200, but 8 years later, not so much anymore.

Well treekid, it's very complicated. You see Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi, and other top democrats see Barack Obama as their greatest hope for having a democrat in the White House, thus securing their party's power in the executive as well as the legislative branch of government. This is very important to them and so they had to devise a very clever plan that would help them win the election in November. This plan includes taking over popular internet site "icanhazcheezeburger" and it's sister sites, including the one we're on, "punditkitchen". By supressing anti-Obama lols and churning out poor quality anti-McCain lols the site administration (controlled by the democratic party of course) have launched a complicated mind control plan that will force Americans to vote for Obama out of a fear of being seen as "racist" if they don't. It is a brilliant plan and the best part is, by claiming the site works on a "voting" system, the site administrators (and through them the democratic party) will succeed with their evil plot and no one will ever be the wiser.

Actually, I don't think fillerbunny made up either "crotchwaffle" or "douchenozzle". "Crotchwaffle" was first introduced to us on the Rainbow Bright Death Squad thread by someone else and was quickly taken up by anyone wishing to point out an utter lack of anything resembling a working human brain. "Douchenozzle" is a bit more recent and not as widespread. Sadly I can not pinpoint exactly which thread it originated from. As to what fillerbunny was trying to say, dear friend, was an attempt at humor directed at ALL of us posters who get self-righteous to the point of ridiculous in the midst of our debates sometimes.

I'm not so sure about McCain being the real conservative change. Differrent than Bush, yes. Better than Obama? Oh, god, yes. The republican party has swung too far left. I wish it would get back to real conservatism, as do many others.

If you could please direct your attention to directly above the pictures, you'll realize that those 2 pictures are "The Most Voted" and "The Most Commented" pictures of the last week. If you'd like to then verify that fact you can look through the last week worth of photos and you'll quickly realize how much suck and fail your comment is full of. Pundit Kitchen's front page material is selected through a democratic process. Republican conservatives are a minority on Pundit Kitchen, therefore, Bush bashing will continue until the Douchenozzles grow tired of it (which isn't likely to be anytime soon). Get used to it.

Clearly, making fun of Obama is racist because he is biracial. Making fun of a rich white guy is not.

You'll notice none of the Obama lolz really say anything bad about the guy, and aren't really funny. But don't worry, once he is President Obama he'll start screwing up and we'll get to make lolz about him. Maybee.

I suspect Obama will have a great approval rating because disapproving would be racist.

Well, it is true that he opens himself up to it. It is also true that a lot of people are uncomfortable making fun of Obama for obvious reasons. It is also true that there is much more history with Bush that we have to draw from.
