Not to be rude, but... you're wrong, sir. At least by the examples I know.
My cousin's a marine, and his wife is a very fun and lively young woman who he has a great relationship with. :\

Meh, stop bragging about what branch you're in, or how qualified you or your spouse is. No one cares.

And being a married, active duty Marine (haha, contradiction) I'll agree with GomerPhyls by saying stereotypes have a way of making themselves true. Albeit, not in my case;)

This is almost funny it's so stupid.

Like Bob, my source is my uniforms as well. My supply Sgt. still owes me new ones.

I just want it stated that as a soldier of Combat Arms (Cavalry Scout - Hooah!), I do not beat my girlfriend nor do I expect her to marry me, pop kids, and make me food. In fact, I expect her to finish her degree in Literature, Drama and Education (yes, she's a tri-major) with straight As like she currently has (after 3 years) and go on teaching and doing what she loves.

While being an Army girlfriend can be tough on her, she - like so many Military Girlfriends/Wives/Boyfriends/Husbands - is strong, dedicated, and willing to make the sacrifice of our time together so I can serve. See, the thing is Gomer... your description is really for the average non-Military Spouse. Reality is, Military Spouses are far above average in every regard. You have no idea what you're going on about.

Did your mom ever come with that PB&J?

There is no such thing as a "typical military wife" just like there is no such thing as a typical teacher's wife, typical factory worker's wife, typical doctor's wife, I could go on but I think you get my point. I'm not going to deny that what you said happens, because it does. However there are just as many military wives (and military husbands, let's not forget those) who are loving and supportive and make tremendous sacrifices for the sake of their husbands and their career. Gomer's assumption that they are all sitting on their butts eating bon-bons and waiting for their husbands to come home and beat them is not only ignorant but insulting to all the dedicated service men and women and their spouses.

When I was in the navy, base pay was maybe 40% of my regular pay.
You also get sea pay, submarine pay, basic allowance for housing,
basic allowance for substinence, nuclear pay, allowance for clothing,
combat pay, cost of living allowance, any enlistment/reenlistment
bonuses, seperation pay, and I'm sure I'm missing some more. All
of that was tax exempt.
There's a whole subset of women who go for the military guy as a
guaranteed paycheck, and sadly Rizi is not the typical military wife.
When the guy goes to sea, the wives club forms something called
the "westpac widows" who would go out looking for guys.

"Ninja Breakdown Attack" would have been hilarious. But the blatant mistake prettymuch ruins the fun, and "Ninja Breakdown Soldier Attack" wouldn't have flowed as well.

Huh, who'd a thunk it- the caption is actually more amusing then everyone's analyses...
I think the guy on the left went for a clock choke. A clock choke is a submission technique used in Judo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Basically, it's done by grabbing onto your opponents lappel and pulling it across the side of his neck and at the same time holding onto him/her in a way that he/she can't roll through to alleviate the pressure. If performed correctly, one of your opponent's carotid arteries will be closed off and he/she will be unconscious in a matter of seconds.

So in the picture, it looks like the guy on the left went for a clock choke. He did it incorrectly, so this allowed the guy on the right to roll through to alleviate the pressure. The guy on the right tried to roll with him to maintain the choke.

WTF?????????GOMER!!!WTF????????
1) What you have is called a size sample error. You don't know enough military wives to make any judgments at all, and your analysis sucks. Military spouses are an important part of the team that defends our country (along with getting sucked into other duties), undergo many hardships you'll never understand, and certainly have earned the right to be proud of their efforts and proud of their service-member.
2) Family violence is a problem in all professions and socioeconomic levels. It can be exacerbated by PTSD or job stress unique to the services.
3) Military wives often don't maintain a career of their own, opting instead to serve in a supporting role, because the frequent moves are disruptive to job security and it becomes difficult to keep up with the different licensing and certification in different states. A transfer while you're in college can mean losing all but your first 60 hours of credit.
4)......eh, there's more, but I've got a pile of uniforms to wash.

Congratulations, you are now this thread's crotchwaffle.

Now let me tell you about my mother who was an officer's wife for over twenty years. Not only did my dad treat her like the smart, funny, amazing woman she is but also relied on her for advice in his career and life. Sometimes my dad had to be gone for weeks or months at a time. My mother always managed to be nurse to our skinned knees, disciplinarian to three sometimes rowdy children, gourmet cook, financial planner, and all the while she could still throw together an officer's wives coffee or a large scale company Chrismas party without breaking a sweat. She made sure we ate a good breakfast before getting on the bus in the morning, she packed our lunches, and she was there for us when we got home. She planned and organized countless moves, so that when our lives were uprooted every three years we hardly noticed the stress. My father has never raised a hand in anger to a woman in his life. All couples fight but my father doesn't sling verbal insults at anyone, least of all his wife.

Since he retired he now teaches high school geography and everyone who knows him will tell you that he is the nicest, most giving man you'll ever meet and that his love for his wife of over 30 years is clear every time he talks about her. If you talked to my father he would be the first to tell you that he couldn't have made it so far without her. If you asked my mother if she was proud of being an Army wife she'd probably tell you she was so busy living life and loving her family to think about it.

There are spousal abusers in any demographic, whatever the personal experiences of people you know (not even your own) your generalizations only make you look ignorant.

Thanks being a soldier makes me really appreciate you stereotyping all of us as abusive makes me feel warm and fuzzy. Military wives and husbands can have there own careers and live life just like civilians. I've spent 5 years as a military police officer and only had any kind of domestic abuse cases a few times a year if every wife or husband is getting beat I would of been a lot busier. And men do gt beat one guy was attacked by his wife with a hot iron.

FYI.....

Yes, I am a wife. My husband and I were married for 2 years before he left for boot camp at the age of 29. I've not been poppin' out any kids before then or in the last five years to to the fact that my UTERUS was popped out 2y years before he even joined the Marines. Even so, I'm not the poppin out kid type and trust me, we aren't living high on the hog by any means. We live paycheck to paycheck and I am DAMN proud of what my husband does. He's a Marine. He's good at it. I do not work because I have a birth defect in my spine and don't draw disability either. We pay our way.

I did go see the SATC movie with free tickets I won online. I didn't have any bon bons, only some very buttery popcorn and kit kats which I snuck in because I'm frugal like that.

I'm 37 years old. I love my husband. I love my country. I love the Marine Corps.

I don't think that's really a fair assessment at all. It sounds like you're making observations about all military wives based on one particularly vapid individual. Be careful with your generalizations. Your cousin's wife is not representative.

I have a college education (BA in Physics). I make more than my husband does. I can't stand Sex in the City.

I'm certainly not a baby-maker. I wish I could make babies, but I'm not able to, and my husband is most definitely interested in me, even though we might never have children of our own.

I'm proud of my husband, but I'd be proud of him no matter what he did. Although, that said, I don't really brag about his current job.

My husband isn't abusive, physically or verbally or emotionally. He's my best friend and the love of my life, and treats me like a princess, even though I'm not boring, and I don't pop em out.

As far as wages and retirement, it's not that impressive, really. Any time anyone says something about "all that income" I have to wonder what they're talking about.

So your best friend (a Marine) and cousin beat their wives? Who the hell do you surround yourself with and what exactly do you do about it? (Marines don't beat their wives or girlfriends) Maybe it's just the people YOU know and the crap you see on television. The role of a Military wife is bigger than being a "housewife" and "making babies". Don't knock the Military if you're not in it and don't base it just because of people YOU know. What about wife/girlfriend abusers in general? Let's talk about the criminal of a man and not the Military man.

My husband isn't abusive, physically or verbally or emotionally. He's my best friend and the love of my life, and treats me like a princess, even though I'm not boring, and I don't pop em out.

As far as wages and retirement, it's not that impressive, really.

Luckily for you, military wives are already married, so I don't know why you care so much about what we do and what we're like, and how boring we are.

I don’t think that’s really a fair assessment at all. It sounds like you’re making observations about all military wives based on one particularly vapid individual. Be careful with your generalizations.

I have a college education (BA in Physics). I work outside the home while my husband is deployed, but staying home the rest of the time is a choice that we made together. I can’t stand Sex in the City.

I too am familiar with that pile of ACU laundry. However Mil wives come in all types, just like the rest of society. I'm proud of my husband....but at the same time I also make 30k more than him a year and I would never dream of squirting out children.

Enjoy the army's play plan and cringe. Keep in mind that most soldiers are "E"

I'm not a wife. My boyfriend's in the Army. He'd never hit me or hurt me in any way, though I am aware of the kind of people you're talking about ... the guys who join the military thinking that killing someone will help them get rid of their anger.
I also know the kind of wives you're talking about, but those are just people who are like that. It's very egotistical of you to assume that simply because I'm in a relationship with someone in the military that I'm married, a gold digger, boring, a housewife, or a mother, especially considering that I'm none of those things.
I'm in college, going to graduate cum laude a year early with a degree that'll get me a job just about anywhere. But I'm also a girl whose boyfriend is far away and that's hard, even if it's what I "signed on for," so to speak. It's nice to know there are others enduring the same kind of thing, that's all.
So bite me :D

I'm always so confused by military wives that brag about being a military wife... They're often abused verbally and/or physically and their only role in life is housewife and baby-maker. How are you proud of that? You're only accomplishment in life is marrying a dude who has good wages at an early age and a good retirement plan...
Don't get me wrong, my best friend is a Marine and I love him to death, but his wife is exactly what I'm talking about... Not to mention my cousin's wife and the countless other military guys who I know. They're all attracted to boring women who's only interest in life is popping em' out as fast as they can and sitting around eating bon bons watching Sex in the City.
