Actually, using your “belief” in Buddha isn’t a good analogy to Allah. Nobody sees Buddha as a “god” or higher power: Buddha was just a monk who taught peace and personal ethics, much like Confucius.

I’ve always wondered, though. What do you think’s going to happen to you in the afterlife as an agnostic?

Not trying to argue; rather, I’d like to offer a suggestion to your theory. When I was studying rock formation this year in science, I realized that the Bible is really just God’s relationship with humans. Who’s to say his seven days creating the world weren’t millenia (not sure is misspelled; sorry) just put into more literary terms. The Bible is SO annoyingly allegorical–who’s to say that the writer meant to put it in terms we could understand? Maybe HE caused the Big Bang Theory. That’s what I believe, really. I’m not hugely religious, but I grew up Baptist Christian, so I’m pretty familiar with this stuff. Being in the South, I live with the most bigotted, self-righteous, hypocritical hicks you could imagine. Obviously, I’m pretty neutral on homosexuality–I could care less about a dude kissing a dude or whatever. Anyway. That’s all I wanted to say.

Well, Theology is a flawed science. The Deity is too great, too loving, too awesome for his/her motives to be understood by us mere mortals. Any definite conception we make about the Deity is probably false; any god small enough for us to understand is to small to be worth worshipping. So wether or not we accept any theological conception such as the Trinity, recognizing Muhammad as prophet, the wheel of Samara, it probably doesn’t come close to the real thing. Why bother quantifying faith into religion? Just live a good life and leave the hereafter to the hereafter.

I am not a Christian, but I would like to point out your historical inaccuracies:
Oedipus: A king who murdered his father and married his mother.
Theseus: A popular Greek king who defended the rights of Athenians.
Romulus: The founder of a city which went on to build a great empire through a combination of meritocratic bureaucracy and bloody warfare.
Jesus: An itinerant beggar who began a pacifistic cult that rejected the traditional Jewish laws and promoted “turn the other cheek” as opposed to “an eye for an eye.”

The first two of these men exemplify the Greek values of pride and personal skill. The third exemplifies the Roman virtues of hard work and loyalty toward the state. The fourth exemplifies the Judeo-Christian values of monotheistic piety and self-sacrifice.

Merely saying Agnostic=Logic doesn’t make you right. In bashing religion, you come off as just as smug and self-satisfied as the religions you appear lampoon.

by the way everyone, the story of jesus is so identical to the story of Oedipus, Theseus, and Romulus

2,009 years ago symbolic literature was extremely common and they just coppied pagan religions.

I believe in zeus just as much as I believe in jesus. I believe in Allah just as much as I believe in Budha. I believe i have to kill christians to get into an eternaly happy afterlife just as much as i believe i have to be a good person.

theres no way of knowing whether of not there is a god. The bible implies that i am going to hell because I am agnostic but the bible also orders the death of all homosexuals and the bible also claims the earth was created rediculously recently. I was backpacking in the grand canyon recently and there are rocks in there that are older than the bibles claimed creation date for the earth. Dinosaurs also dissprove it. But this is getting off topic…..No one knows if there is a god, no one has probably ever seen him, and no one will probably ever know as long as they are on earth.

Of course God loves you! Please know that you never need to doubt that. Though, I would like to ask (and understand, I’m not trying to be sarcastic or snide) are you truly atheist, or merely agnostic (the difference being that atheists do not believe in the existence of God at all, whereas agnostics [generally] are uncertain or believe in some undefined higher order to life)? Either way, God loves all people and your teachers had no place to claim He does not.

a) More than anything else, I’m alarmed by the fact that dude looks like Don Imus.

b) The nutjob fundamentalists like this show up on my campus from time to time, doing their usual “I hate everything ever” spiel. My favorite moment was when one of said douchebags was ranting about homosexuals and how they were going to hell, etc. Some kid in the crowd jumped up on the garden wall next to him with a sign scribbled in his notebook that said, “This guy gives great head!” with an arrow pointing toward the psycho. Fun stuff.

Then I saw my 80-some year old poli-sci prof go off on the guy, and *finally* a couple of the on-campus Christian organizations got him to leave because he was embarrassing them. Fun stuff.

Just so you know, not ALL of Fred’s kids are part of the “cult” at the WBC. if you do a bit of research you’ll learn that Mark, Nate and Kathy all left the church many many years ago, and live separately from them. I know that Nate and Mark have had no contact at all for more than 30 years.

i’ve lived in topeka (home of the westboro baptist church) my whole life, so this picture definitely made me grin. i try to ignore the signs whenever i see them so that phelps doesn’t have the satisfaction of seeing my disgust, but it’s awesome to see others undermining him in such a hilarious way!
