The Seattle PI: True irony: Bush on personal responsibility

To the list of President Bush’s many shortcomings, we can now add another failing.

Our poor president — no, make that our exceedingly poor president — is obviously irony impaired.

How else could he go to Furman University on Saturday and celebrate his time-tested — and now, time-graded and time-failed — theme of personal responsibility? Unless, that is, he intended to offer himself as a counter-example to the idealistic young collegians. …Continued.

  1. Evil Pundit says:

Barack Obama lied when he said he’d never heard Jeremiah Wright spouting racism during 20 years sitting in his church.

    • Herr Kub says:

And we are shocked by this? I can’t wait until all the Obama lovers get heartbroken cause the skinny kid with the funny name is proven to be just like all the rest of the politicians in Washington. It will be a good day. I shall call it The Great Schadenfreude Day.

      • LAL says:

Can’t disagree with that! At least you know that your wish for Obama to be like other politicians is shameful.

    • lowly grunt says:

      Your evidence?

      • Evil Pundit says:

Nobody can attend a church for 20 years, and take its pastor as his spiritual mentor, without knowing what that pastor said.

        • exhoicat says:

Oh, I dunno. I used to go to church, and I can’t remember anything the pastor said…except that he pronounced the capital “G” in “GHod.”

It just makes me sad that anyone who wants to run for office in this country, regardless of what the constitution says about religious tests, has to claim to believe in Bronze Age fairy tales.

        • lowly grunt says:

Yes, they can. Do you remember everything your teachers told you while you were in school for 12+ years? REALLY?

          • Sandy Mac says:

yes and most of it was religious indoctrination. Because i didn’t believe in
God I was treated as a second class citizen….but i supose most of you
Christians think that I shouldn’t have rights anyway. Its just like racism
exept nowadays most people realise racism is wrong.

    • LAL says:

Are you really equating those? Did that kill anyone? Did that ruin our economy? Did that make our country less safe? I mean really, come up with one unique argument. How many times and to how many things can your only argument be that Obama went to a church with a overzealous preacher? You may be evil like many pundits (on both sides even). But pundits often have multiple well researched points. Having one means that you read one article and barely understood it. You have the internet, you can surely research your opinions a little and possibly even gain an understanding beyond Wright=Wrong.

    • bitter troll says:

obama didnt hear cause like everyone else, obama was not paying attention in church, playing gameboy, jump mario jump, get da mushroom. mushroom make you big and strong, stomp the goomba!

  2. Jamie says:

    politician: synonym for liar.

  3. kafleen says:

    Wait…wutt? someone lied? Inconceivable!

  4. frog eater says:

    he lied, he’s a politician….that’s normal…

but you Americans believed him for like 2 years, when he said Iraq had weapons of mass destruction or Saddam was related to terrorism.

    Americans are so stupid.
    lol.

    • exhoicat says:

A lot of us never believed him, and we did write letters, send e-mails to our reps in Congress, and took part in protest demonstrations all over the country. The (corporate) media totally ignored us.

On Oct. 10, 2002, Sen. Clinton made an impassioned speech to the Senate SUPPORTING the Cheney/Rumsfeld/Rice illegal invasion of a soverign nation that was NEVER any threat to us or to anybody else.

If she’s so intelligent, why did SHE buy that ghastly fairy tale about Saddam’s arsenal when we peasants out here knew it was a fake?

      Ohhhhh…….grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

      • lowly grunt says:

        Amen, brother and/or sister.

I remember driving around listening to the radio as talking head after talking head (what do you call those on radio?) beat the drum for war. Hook, line, and sinker they gobbled it up and left me sitting in traffic feeling more than my usual amount of disbelief, hopelessness, and despair. I would go home and log on to my favorite sites and see pictures and read testimonies of people who attended HUGE anti-war rallies and thanked GOD for the internet. It kept me sane in a time when the country was going bat-s*** crazy. It brings me just a little tiny bit of comfort to know I was right all along. Mostly, i’m just sad that there has been so much waste in the last six years.

    • Choclet pi says:

Errrr – I’m British, but why don’t you cool it with the blind anti-Americanism?

      • Choclet pi says:

There are many many intelligent Americans..it’s just the thick ones are the conspicuous stereotype.
British people were told there were WMDs too, by Tony Blair, but (like in the US) that doesn’t mean we all believed it. More than a million people marched on London to protest against the Iraq war, but the politicians started bombing Baghdad anyway.

    • Lallz says:

      They DO have WMDs.
Given that the US sold them to them n’all. So either they do, in which case Bush was right [oh that pains me] and not a good enough job was undertaken in hunting for them, or they’ve been used, in which case theres a good chance we all no longer exist.
But who really gives a damn about that? The US have WMDs too.

      • IPG says:

Nope… there is are several options you faild to mention. My understanding of what happened is the following: The only WMDs Saddam ever had were toxic gases with a relatively short live span, even if well maintained. When the decision for going to war was made all WMDs had long gone bad.

I did not know that in 03, so I believed that Saddam had WMD at the time, but the Bush administration DID know that the old gas stockpiles were useless and still used it as an argument. Somehow that strikes me to be a bit more of a moral screw up than a blowjob in the oval office.

      • Greyhawk says:

The UN arms inspectors could not find the WMDs. Georgie boy sent in a hand picked inspector, a former US Marine. HE could not find WMD’s. THERE WERE NO WMD’s! Please get that through your thick skull! WE’VE BEEN LIED TO!
There will be a quiz at the end of this class.

    • Reality says:

And both are correct. We found the weapons, the only reason you don’t hear about it is just because they were found in Iraq doesn’t mean they were made there. If we told everybody we found WMD’s, the guys with their names on them would be pretty embarassed.

  5. unbelievable says:

Toxic gases gone bad? We still have stockpiles of mustard gas from WWI that’s good…well maybe not good but still a viable weapon. I don’t know anyone that believed the whole terrorist theory about Iraq, and the WMD was pretty thin, they may have had them but the US had no fly zones over two thirds of thier country and we were constantly blowing up anything we saw.

Just because Bush had an agenda and was able to push it through doesn’t mean that the American people think like he does. That’s like saying that all the Iraq’s were evil because Saddam was evil — and he was.

    • thetruth says:

we mobilized against iraq because they invaded kuwait. If you read into the storm by tom clancy it explaines alot of things. we did find large stockpiles of ballistic missiles and chemical and biological warheads.

      • paws4thot says:

Very good; now explain why we went back 10 years or so later (other than lack of morale fibre to finish the job the first time).

  6. trusts says:

    very nicely captioned…so true.
