A Change You Can Vote On
Here at I Can Has Cheezburger?/Pundit Kitchen, we’ve been working on a new voting page that would let you vote on more images, faster and easier.
The major changes are:
- Voting requires being registered, so we don’t show you the same image twice.
- You’ll be shown 1 image at a time. Voting (Win, Fail or Skip) will show you another.
- There will be far more images available for voting
- If you stop voting, the terrorists win… Not really, but scare tactics sure do work well.
Try it out, and tell us what you think!

Thanks for all your feedback. We know many of you prefer the old system, but interestingly, the usage data appears to say otherwise. We’d like to keep the system running for a week and see. The system does what we designed it to do — it provides sufficient activity to gather user opinions on every single submission — and more. This is important for us because we can provide valuable feedback to lol creators and us about what you like.
We will be taking your feedback into account when we make changes to the system. We certainly want to create a feature that works AND is enjoyable. Change isn’t easy, but its needed. Thanks for bearing with us.

Actually, it should take less overall, since it’s far less data per image we’re transferring. I take it that you don’t like the fact you have to wait PER image, instead of loading 10 at once. amirite?
That’s it. Perhaps there could be two voting methods….? (1-up vs ~10/pg?)

We do have the Last Picture feature. We could allow you to change your vote by clicking on the Last Picture…
I don’t like it.
I like being able to see multiple pictures at once, and I REALLY like being able to vote on a 1-5 scale like on ichc and ihahd.

Maybe as an option but I really prefer the 10 per page, up/down voting, plus I can see what’s new and I can post the pics on other boards cause not everything I like makes it to the front page.
Please please please go back to the way it was.

1) The Win/Fail is the same as the up/down voting, just with a name.
2) We can make the embed code available on each image as well.
3) The problem with the 10 per page was that users just weren’t voting… believe it or not, we get 5 to 10 times more data from this system than the old one…
We’d like to come up with a system that works for everyone.
1) I wasn’t really complaing about that, I was just describing the old layout. Could we maybe have totals on the win/fail buttons? I’ve submitted a couple and enjoy seeing the reaction of the community.

3) That I can believe, I did notice that voting was arbitrary on the old page, and I will admit I voted on every single pic in the widget, didn’t skip a one.

DO NOT WANT! it is a good idea but it should be an OPTION, because i like looking at 10 at once and being able to come back to those, not just after 2 votes its gone forever and i won’t see it unless it makes it to the front page
Would you be more willing to use the Favorite button to keep those lolz you like?
u cant favorite the voting ones, and sometimes the real funny ones never make it o the front, so i can’t see those unless a vote for like 20 of them
Actually, the Favorite button shows up under Last Picture. We’ll change that so that you can favorite the picture that is currently being voted on.

One of the main reasons why we’re going with this method is that we get 10 times more submissions than what is visible on the voting pages. 90% of the lolz on Pundit Kitchen are never seen by anyone other than our moderators.
This new voting widget means when you create a lol, it is guaranteed to be seen by real users. It’s also fair considering we’re not making god-like judgment on your sense of humor.
We’d rather leave it up to you.
Making an option isn’t really going to work since we don’t have enough traffic for 2 types of voting pages…
We’re open to listening to make some changes. Of course.
I much prefered having the 10 pictures per screen. I could leave them downloading while I worked on something else, then come back and quickly scroll through them. If I got through five pages and then came back later, I could take up where I left off by choosing the page number rather than having to go through every last picture again. If I wanted to show one to someone else, I did not have to Favorite it. I have enjoyed this site, but I can’t be bothered to refresh my browser for each and every picture, nor do I want to vote on every single lol. The Skip button is still an extra step that requires more than the scroll button. Since my favourite lols don’t tend to make it to the main page, I’m afraid I’ll be missing them from now on.

It appears that it’s just random. It was nice finding where I left off last time I visited. For the love of God, at least make it linear.

I;ve notic ed in the page of 10 system that some images were reated on as many as 3 or 4 pages in a row. IF you can fix that, you’d get more votes on older ones.
While testing last night I tried to vote on a “last picture.” It owuldnt let me.
Sorry, dont know how thos etypos got in there. I mean images were repeated, etc.

I’ll not be voting, then, if these are the requirements. I do prefer the old method. It shouldn’t be difficult to set up a page that arranges pictures by date and displays them automatically (PHP or ASP) when the ‘page #’ parameter is sent. Then you could do it both ways, with only one extra page. I don’t think that would ridiculously increase your traffic, either. Just from us, whom wish the old ways not to be forgotten.

Agreed. DO NOT WANT! I like being able to browse and see everything that’s new. I don’t necessarilly want to vote on EVERY image. I only vote on those I either really like or really don’t.

Is an actual human pre-screening the PunditKitchen LOLs that come up for vote? It seems like they’ve been almost universally awful since switching to the ‘one LOL per page’ voting system…and many of them are either very unoriginal, or downright offensive (tons of inappropriate Hitler, racist, and Kennedy Tumor submissions).

Yes. We have moderators who screen all the images.
As per offensive images, if you Flag an image, it’s taken out of the voting pool and sent to a moderator.
Really? Because the ones that are coming up for vote that I’m seeing include a lot of submissions where the caption text wasn’t even sized correctly (i.e. whatever the caption was goes off the right edge of the picture and can’t be seen), about 80 of the same picture with the same “Mickey Mouse” caption, etc. – these are really ‘the best’ submissions?
Sorry, should have clarified. The old method, we screened out 90% of materials. In the new one, we screen out 10%…
Actually, I’m going to go against the grain and say I actually really like this. I like being able to see a stream of image for-eva. KEEP IT!
YUP. I concur. The only downside is I think I spent 15 minutes voting and almost was late to a meeting!!!

And… you may just have to be patient. ICHC gets a lot of votes on the voting page but it’s been up for a long time and is so well loved. I only just found here and started. Patience.

If you want to change something, change the code that handles the accounts: I have had five LOLs so far just plain disappear from mine. I’m not saying they don’t get posted, I’m saying that after I make them, they are in my account’s “My LOLs” page one day, and then *not* there a day or two later. I’m going to start working from a new account to see if that’s a problem.

I’m not crazy about it. I preferred seeing many at once, and to be able to tell when I’d gotten to the ones I’d already seen. I don’t think I’ll be doing any voting, now.
Could you do something about duplicates? if many ppl send in the same idea, I think it would be best to post the first and not split votes among them.
I’m with gator on this…if I see one more Chavez=Mickey Mouse or Bush sucks baby brains, I’m failing them all instead of skipping. They weren’t funny to begin with and gobs of them makes them even less so.

I like being able to skim over lots of photos on the same page. So one per page is definitely DO NOT WANT!
I also preferred it when you screened out 90% before the voting page. I don’t like looking at all the racist sexist captioning failures…it makes the funny ones seem less funny.
I DO LIKE ‘Win’ or ‘Fail’ though.

I second the proposal of screening out racist or sexist captions, but also such that try to smear people or ideas by associating them with dictators or mass murders and their ideology.
Actually maybe you could screen out 50% as compromise…so not so many offensive jokes about vagines.

I KNOWS I KNOWS! Maybe 3 pics per page? Then you still has more data, we still has choice to skim over a little bit.
Also..i dunno if this just my computer (prolly is), but when I log on I have to type my whole email and password every time…it would be cool if came up automatically. Also I was just on IHAH now, and I favourited about 5 LOLs, but everytime it asked me to retype email and password! Did not want.

I am going nuts without my daily voting fix. I am also a WordPress member and I’m also very frustrated that I have to log in to ICHC to vote if I’m already logged in to WordPress. Arrgh!
